afam4eva: Well personally I don't give a hoot about the centre. The fact that a Yoruba or Igboman holds a political office doesn't necessarily mean he can unilaterally use Government funds to develop his state. We have chosen to take our destiny in our own hands and not wait for handouts as you must have noticed. |

Ikengawo: Lagos Ibadan is as important to the north as it is to the SW because that's how they access lagos/the sea/ imports as well, but only a fool would say it's more important to igbos than yorubas or northerners. It's like saying the Onitsha |
Politics / Re: Marginalisation: Yoruba Leaders To Storm Aso Rock Again by geez1: 7:15am On Dec 16, 2012 |
Ikengawo: I think this is the end result of the SW trying to become a 1 party state. Check the results again. If the SW had voted like the north, Buhari would be president now. The SW is more populated than the SE and Yorubas (40m) are more than Igbos (30m) so they should matter if truly elections are about numbers |

ak47mann: Mr man once biafra is declared ,watch and see investment trooping in from different parts f the world. The thing is that in the whole country only in igboland u see Europeans and Asians, and american investors, this is what they have been praying for, and most of them prefer to stay in the east,am not lying to you,u need to come out from ur local area and visit east and ur mouth will drop open. This time around SE is on a different level trust me,igbos will leave lagos in drove even worst than abiola days, once they see their economy going bigger and bigger lagos will turn to ghost town. You will watching the new country only on television If it will happen when it's declared, we should have started seeing the signs now. With the dearth of infrastructure that can't even support all the Biafrans presently residing there how can they not support all those that will be displaced from other parts of Nigeria where they presently reside? You say we should visit the SE to see these things but despite all 'these things', none if your states is still as productive as Oyo. As a matter of fact, the GDP of the SW is more than twice that of the SE and even minus the GDP of Lagos, its still higher |

redsun: Obviously the land is barren and retrogressive because I still don't even understand why the few ones that do some business here can't even replicate such in the SE. There are opportunities in the SW because successive governments have created the platform for businesses to thrive which is largely absent in the SE. And you're the same people that scream 'divide us' the most. Anyway I can't wait for that day 2 Likes |

redsun: Abuja has been the capital for over 20yrs and why isn't its economy half the size of Lagos'? Calabar was also once Nigeria's capital and how come your people don't troop there half as much as they invade Lagos? And tell me what your people are doing in Abeokuta, Ibadan and a host of other Yoruba cities? Were they also Nigeria's capital? Too many questions. No answers 1 Like |

Eko Ile: To the average easterner, traveling to Lagos is like traveling to London. You need to see the excitement on their faces when they arrive their airports to board Lagos bound planes but if we should keep to the topic, I want to ask you Biafrans how many people from Oyo state live in Enugu compared to the number of people from Enugu in Ibadan. You keep dissing the land and your brothers never stop rushing and filling up spaces in buses heading for the SW. Isn't it ironic? 1 Like |

ezeagu: Using GDP to asses human development means little in a country dominated by the black market. Even if you check the NBS, you will discover that poverty and unemployment in the SE is far higher than what obtains in the SW and human development without capital development isn't development. What I've realized about this forum is that people come here and say whatever they like but no matter what you say or refuse to acknowledge, it doesn't change how much I have in the bank, neither does it make the states, tribes or institution you come here to rubbish any less than they really are. So keep ranting, Ibadan will continue to be an investment haven as well as the SW. Your posts can't change that. They can only make you feel good about your illusions |
Politics / Re: Ibadan: One Of Five African Cities To Watch - Financial Times by geez1: 11:33pm On Dec 15, 2012 |
From the GDP of states I posted earlier, the total GDP of the SW is $78.8bn and that of the SE is $36.9bn. If you take the GDP of Lagos away from that of the SW, the GDP of the region will be $45.1bn. Still way higher than the GDP of the whole of the SE. 1 Like |

No matter what you bigots say on this thread, it doesn't change the fact the Ibadan is one of the African cities to watch and no matter how bitter you are, Oyo state has a bigger economy than any state in the SE. These are verifiable facts that I've posted too many times over on this forum but here's to serve you dinner again Rank State PPP GDP (2010; in millios of USD) 1 Lagos State US$33,679 2 Rivers State US$21,073 3 Delta State US$16,749 4 Oyo State US$16,121 5 Imo State US$14,212 6 Kano State US$12,393 7 Edo State US$11,888 - Federal Capital Territory US$11,448 8 Akwa Ibom State US$11,179 9 Ogun State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_GDP If you have any facts to disprove my post, kindly post without ranting bitterly like sore losers and include a credible link. Politics / NEMA Ends Rescue, Confirms Yakowa, Azazi, Four Others Dead In Helicopter Crash by geez1: 10:02pm On Dec 15, 2012 |
The National Emergency Management Agency says it has concluded its search and rescue operation concerning the naval helicopter that crashed in Bayelsa this afternoon. It said, in a statement by its spokesperson, Yushau Shuaibu, that six occupants of the chopper were found dead, and that their remains had been deposited in a mortuary. The agency did not name the victims of the crash but the Peoples Democratic Party has already confirmed that Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna and former National Security Adviser, Owoeye Azazi, were in the helicopter. The NEMA statement read, “The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that conclusion of the search and rescue operation over a Naval helicopter that crashed this afternoon in Nember area of Bayelsa State. “The operation which involved collaborations of response agencies and volunteers led to the recovery of the bodies of the six passengers on-board the the helicopter. “While the bodies have been deposited in the mortuary, further details on the victims will soon be announced after their families have been formally informed. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/111359-nema-ends-rescue-confirms-yakowa-azazi-four-others-dead-in-helicopter-crash.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nema-ends-rescue-confirms-yakowa-azazi-four-others-dead-in-helicopter-crash |
Politics / Breaking News And The Nigerian Media by geez1: 9:40pm On Dec 15, 2012 |
At 6:12pm, Sahara Reporters broke the news of a naval helicopter that crashed in Bayelsa State with the Kaduna State governor feared on board. It's over three hours later and all the local news agencies I've been monitoring have been kind of 'secretive' about this. Reuters has already broken the news and I'm sure CNN too would have if the Connecticut shooting hadn't happened in the US. It's always the case with the Nigerian Press as some news reports are only broken when confirmed by the Minister of Information. I wonder why this always happens when in other climes, news reports are broken almost as quickly as they are received. Hillary Clinton's concussion and the New Town shooting are classic examples. |

From: geez@nairaland To: ak47mann, afam4eva Cc: BiafraMailingList Subject: Oyo State in Five Years Dear Biafrans, It is worthy of note that Oyo state currently has a higher GDP than any state in the entire SE. I know this may hurt and will get you wondering but Ibadan, the state capital has several fully functional industrial estates and industries. The state will also in the near future be an industrial hub of WestAfrica as confirmed in a recent report by the Financial Times. After reading the report by the FT, you will observe the following symptoms: Sweating Nausea Sleeplessness Delirium Fever Headaches Constipation Chest pain Dizziness Incoherent posts on Nairaland Just know that whether or not you get hurt, Oyo state and the SW will continue to develop and even faster than you can ever imagine Best Regards Geez Yorubaland o Ni baje 1 Like |
Im more interested in seeing a milk factory in Ekiti and a milk factory in Lagos and this is what i want for the SE. Co-dependence isn't integration. We live in the same nation, we're integrated. Integration and tribal unity gimmicks are used by politicians trying to expand their empire and I dont want igbo people to be susceptible to it. There's no need to build something in one state to support 6 others. Each state in Nigeria is populace enough to be it's own nation and if you go to nations smaller than our states you will see that they provide their own facilities and still have space for export. There are enough people in Ibadan and Lagos for them both to have their own cattle ranch and export to the world.
Very funny. How come some states in the US are know for certain things and not everything? Arkansas and Arizona are top agricultural states while Alaska is best known for oil and gas. California is know for entertainment. A state can't be everything to everyone. I even doubt if a country can. This doesn't mean that a state wont have a bit if everything or most things. There are farms in Lagos but the biggest farms in the SW aren't in Lagos which is the commercial hub of Nigeria. |
