I also addressed the political appointment issue. You can't eat your cake and still have it.

Well personally I don't give a hoot about the centre. The fact that a Yoruba or Igboman holds a political office doesn't necessarily mean he can unilaterally use Government funds to develop his state. We have chosen to take our destiny in our own hands and not wait for handouts as you must have noticed.

And you didn't see where the SW leaders said that it was only the Lagos-Ibadan road that was concessioned while others were built with public money.

Edited my post but just wondering if that was the only thing you saw and nothing about the political appointments and why can't they concession roads and airports in the SE? My thinking is that they aren't economically viable

Maybe i exaggeration too much about the road being more important for SEsterners than it is for SWesterners. The point i'm trying to make is that every federal road in Nigeria is important to everyone and not just those that it lies in their territory. That's why it's called a federal road.

So should Nigeria divide and a war beaks out (God forbid), all Yorubas just need do is stand at Ore and all the Igbos in the SW will meet their Waterloo
Politics / Re: Marginalisation: Yoruba Leaders To Storm Aso Rock Again by geez1: 7:36am On Dec 16, 2012
Ikengawo: Lagos Ibadan is as important to the north as it is to the SW because that's how they access lagos/the sea/ imports as well, but only a fool would say it's more important to igbos than yorubas or northerners.

It's like saying the Onitsha Port Jetty is more important to the Yorubas than Igbos right? But Afam has a point
Politics / Re: Marginalisation: Yoruba Leaders To Storm Aso Rock Again by geez1: 7:15am On Dec 16, 2012
Ikengawo: I think this is the end result of the SW trying to become a 1 party state.
Nigeria is still the land of paddi paddi, and rivals are enemies here.
If that 1 party you have invested in isn't the party in power, power is against you. The SW really doesn't have a voice in high power it seems because the last election showed elections can be won without them. I think it's sad and don't condone this but that's the fact.

Check the results again. If the SW had voted like the north, Buhari would be president now. The SW is more populated than the SE and Yorubas (40m) are more than Igbos (30m) so they should matter if truly elections are about numbers

ak47mann: Mr man once biafra is declared ,watch and see investment trooping in from different parts f the world. The thing is that in the whole country only in igboland u see Europeans and Asians, and american investors, this is what they have been praying for, and most of them prefer to stay in the east,am not lying to you,u need to come out from ur local area and visit east and ur mouth will drop open. This time around SE is on a different level trust me,igbos will leave lagos in drove even worst than abiola days, once they see their economy going bigger and bigger lagos will turn to ghost town. You will watching the new country only on television smiley

So i welcome ur support cool

If it will happen when it's declared, we should have started seeing the signs now. With the dearth of infrastructure that can't even support all the Biafrans presently residing there how can they not support all those that will be displaced from other parts of Nigeria where they presently reside? You say we should visit the SE to see these things but despite all 'these things', none if your states is still as productive as Oyo. As a matter of fact, the GDP of the SW is more than twice that of the SE and even minus the GDP of Lagos, its still higher

This is how primitive you guys think and i find it very weird, especially when you claim to be educated.Every nigrerian is free to live where he or she choses. The igbo always capititalize on the opportunities some local tribes dont see, they always tap into it,simplify it and make it adorable, irrespective of the location. The igbos are colonizers.

And probably because of the high competitions at home ground, and of course other locational factors, some choose to find unexplored lands in the union.

Igbos like all the seekers, will live for ever.

Obviously the land is barren and retrogressive because I still don't even understand why the few ones that do some business here can't even replicate such in the SE. There are opportunities in the SW because successive governments have created the platform for businesses to thrive which is largely absent in the SE. And you're the same people that scream 'divide us' the most. Anyway I can't wait for that day

Sometimes you guys forget that lagos state was the federal capital of nigeria,a nigerian state, developed by nigerians, with nigerian resources.

Like new york to america.Triba primates.

Abuja has been the capital for over 20yrs and why isn't its economy half the size of Lagos'? Calabar was also once Nigeria's capital and how come your people don't troop there half as much as they invade Lagos? And tell me what your people are doing in Abeokuta, Ibadan and a host of other Yoruba cities? Were they also Nigeria's capital? Too many questions. No answers

What are you going to hand over to the next ibo generation? A bunch of slave workers working in Yorubaland like dogs and paying taxes to develop Yorubaland? You can not take Yorubaland back to your ibo villages.

You people need to bury your heads in shame because the joke is on you. You are once again the loser. Ibo people are dumb sha...

To the average easterner, traveling to Lagos is like traveling to London. You need to see the excitement on their faces when they arrive their airports to board Lagos bound planes but if we should keep to the topic, I want to ask you Biafrans how many people from Oyo state live in Enugu compared to the number of people from Enugu in Ibadan. You keep dissing the land and your brothers never stop rushing and filling up spaces in buses heading for the SW. Isn't it ironic?

You can believe that if you want, but for me I've never seen a beggar from eastern Nigeria. The guys selling gala on the motorway, or even spare part dealers aren't listed in the GDP along with people who may be millionaires, and I don't even know if they (along with farmers) are listed as employed since these 50% figures are making question whether 50% of Anambara and the rest of the population of south east states are sitting at home starving (even when thousands start hustling at 10 years of age). But we all have our own beliefs.

I wasn't ranting against Ibadan, I was correcting incorrect evidence.

Even if its incorrect just leave us to be deluded. I don't know why any post on any positive news or development in Yorubaland generates so much bitterness from you Biafrans. If it pains you that much, you can work hard enough to make those things happen in your region or you consider it impossible ni?

ezeagu: Using GDP to asses human development means little in a country dominated by the black market.

Even if you check the NBS, you will discover that poverty and unemployment in the SE is far higher than what obtains in the SW and human development without capital development isn't development. What I've realized about this forum is that people come here and say whatever they like but no matter what you say or refuse to acknowledge, it doesn't change how much I have in the bank, neither does it make the states, tribes or institution you come here to rubbish any less than they really are. So keep ranting, Ibadan will continue to be an investment haven as well as the SW. Your posts can't change that. They can only make you feel good about your illusions
Politics / Re: Ibadan: One Of Five African Cities To Watch - Financial Times by geez1: 11:33pm On Dec 15, 2012
From the GDP of states I posted earlier, the total GDP of the SW is $78.8bn and that of the SE is $36.9bn. If you take the GDP of Lagos away from that of the SW, the GDP of the region will be $45.1bn. Still way higher than the GDP of the whole of the SE.

No matter what you bigots say on this thread, it doesn't change the fact the Ibadan is one of the African cities to watch and no matter how bitter you are, Oyo state has a bigger economy than any state in the SE. These are verifiable facts that I've posted too many times over on this forum but here's to serve you dinner again

Rank State PPP GDP (2010;
in millios
of USD)
1 Lagos State US$33,679
2 Rivers State US$21,073
3 Delta State US$16,749
4 Oyo State US$16,121
5 Imo State US$14,212
6 Kano State US$12,393

- Federal Capital Territory US$11,448
8 Akwa Ibom State US$11,179
9 Ogun State

Politics / NEMA Ends Rescue, Confirms Yakowa, Azazi, Four Others Dead In Helicopter Crash by geez1: 10:02pm On Dec 15, 2012
The National Emergency Management Agency says it has concluded its search and rescue operation concerning the naval helicopter that crashed in Bayelsa this afternoon.
It said, in a statement by its spokesperson, Yushau Shuaibu, that six occupants of the chopper were found dead, and that their remains had been deposited in a mortuary.
The agency did not name the victims of the crash but the Peoples Democratic Party has already confirmed that Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna and former National Security Adviser, Owoeye Azazi, were in the helicopter.
The NEMA statement read, “The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that conclusion of the search and rescue operation over a Naval helicopter that crashed this afternoon in Nember area of Bayelsa State.
“The operation which involved collaborations of response agencies and volunteers led to the recovery of the bodies of the six passengers on-board the the helicopter.
“While the bodies have been deposited in the mortuary, further details on the victims will soon be announced after their families have been formally informed.

Politics / Breaking News And The Nigerian Media by geez1: 9:40pm On Dec 15, 2012
At 6:12pm, Sahara Reporters broke the news of a naval helicopter that crashed in Bayelsa State with the Kaduna State governor feared on board. It's over three hours later and all the local news agencies I've been monitoring have been kind of 'secretive' about this. Reuters has already broken the news and I'm sure CNN too would have if the Connecticut shooting hadn't happened in the US.

It's always the case with the Nigerian Press as some news reports are only broken when confirmed by the Minister of Information.

I wonder why this always happens when in other climes, news reports are broken almost as quickly as they are received. Hillary Clinton's concussion and the New Town shooting are classic examples.

What the OP is suggesting is not that every state should do everything. They can have a little of everything and still have a USP. I see no reason why Enugu can't have it's own Onitsha, NNewi, Aba and Abakaliki even if it's in a small way. And i see no reason why Onitsha despite being a commercial city will not have the livability of Enugu and be an Agricultural state. I see no reason why Ebonyi, despite having Agriculture as it's strong point cannot have a small commercial town or a tourist haven.

Arkansas and Arizona despie being Agricultural states also have some cities that can hold their own. Atlanta is best known for oil and gas(i'm hearing this for the first time) but that's where CNN and Cocacola is headquartered. California is known for entertainment, so is New York, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chi town, Nashville etc. I think the US and Germany like the OP pointed out represents the way Igbos are known to do things. Going the way of Regional integration will mean that only Enugu, Onitsha, Aba and probably Owerri will be developed. What will happen to Awka, Orlu, Okigwe, Nsukka, Oraifite, Arochukwu, Ohafia, Abakaliki, Afikpo etc.

@OP, you're spot on....

Kindly refer to the post I responded to sir

Subject: Oyo State in Five Years

Dear Biafrans,

It is worthy of note that Oyo state currently has a higher GDP than any state in the entire SE. I know this may hurt and will get you wondering but Ibadan, the state capital has several fully functional industrial estates and industries.

The state will also in the near future be an industrial hub of WestAfrica as confirmed in a recent report by the Financial Times.

After reading the report by the FT, you will observe the following symptoms:

Sweating
Nausea
Sleeplessness
Delirium
Fever
Headaches
Constipation
Chest pain
Dizziness
Incoherent posts on Nairaland

Just know that whether or not you get hurt, Oyo state and the SW will continue to develop and even faster than you can ever imagine

Best Regards
Geez

liberty300: . if you would remember, state governments were banned from construction of federal roads during ngige/obj saga.now state government in the southeast require express consent from the fg to construct federal roads. take the enugu/onitsha road that has been constructed for nearly five years nw

They way I see it is like this. You work for a multinational and you have deliverables as a staff and you have to visit a particular client but at that point in time, there's no pool car available but then you decide you won't use your private car because the company will may not pay for it but then in the end, you fail to meet your target. Whose loss will be it? The company will lose a client but you may lose your job. For me I believe federal roads are the most economically important roads in different states from my local travels and if you as a governor fails to fix it, you will invariably be shooting your quest for private investment on the foot
Im more interested in seeing a milk factory in Ekiti and a milk factory in Lagos and this is what i want for the SE.
Co-dependence isn't integration. We live in the same nation, we're integrated. Integration and tribal unity gimmicks are used by politicians trying to expand their empire and I dont want igbo people to be susceptible to it.

There's no need to build something in one state to support 6 others. Each state in Nigeria is populace enough to be it's own nation and if you go to nations smaller than our states you will see that they provide their own facilities and still have space for export.

There are enough people in Ibadan and Lagos for them both to have their own cattle ranch and export to the world.
Very funny. How come some states in the US are know for certain things and not everything? Arkansas and Arizona are top agricultural states while Alaska is best known for oil and gas. California is know for entertainment. A state can't be everything to everyone. I even doubt if a country can. This doesn't mean that a state wont have a bit if everything or most things. There are farms in Lagos but the biggest farms in the SW aren't in Lagos which is the commercial hub of Nigeria.
