@pocohantas @treadway like someone said earlier for every 10 people that land abroad are doing doing care/warehouse, there is an equal 10 that are doing good jobs and jobs in fields they enjoy. The first thing I tell anybody coming it have a strategy and be possibly ready to skillup if need be. A lot of the people I know are doing jobs earning over 50k(as dependant of students) these people came in with resolve to get jobs in their field, did the work to rebrand their Nigerian experience to similar fields obtainable in the uk and most importantly they aligned themselves with people in the UK with similar belief system as they possess. They were told they cant get such jobs except they do care/warehouse first, they stood their ground. Some of them did remote customer support roles before transitioning but the longest anyone of them stayed before getting a job was 3 months. Inbetween this time they were interviewing and skilling up. Revamping their cv's and practising interview questions. What many do not realize is that getting a job is a fulltime job in itself and you have to approach it with a strategy. Some of them have gotten sponsorship on their jobs. In the same UK where some people are stuck doing care. What i usually say to anyone is, look at what works for you. Research it, and if you want to relocate make sure you have a plan and a strategy and PUT IN THE WORK. I know a lot of Nigerians work in banks so I would use that as an example. If you work in bank as a banking officer, you can use your knowledge of the banks processes to bag a job as business analyst, tie your bank experience to times showing how you had to gather requirements, work with stakeholders etc. If you worked in marketing, you can segue into product marketing, or skillup and add digital marketing as one of your skillset and apply for such roles. There are lot and lots of free resource on youtube(I call it free university). The truth is many nigerians relocate and get good jobs but alot of them dont talk about it(maybe for the fear of getting billed, who knows) but as with everything in life there will be people wont make it. heck same is obtainable in Nigeria. One thing I know is that there a load and load of opportunities here. You can literally be having two interview every single day with different firms (get your cv right), after the several unfortunately responses you will definitely get that congratulatory message.

Gerrard59:

To be honest, I cannot blame them, especially if one looks at the future of Nigeria. Some people prefer peace of mind and security, others prefer the fast lane. Like someone mentioned, the thought of driving through the night is something I cherish and owning that the chances of anything happening is very low. Nigeria is too unpredictable for me, so for those who say "you can make money here", that is one aspect of investing in the country. Before I left, I wanted to invest in having a cassava factory that would process large quantities of cassava and even begin an out-grower scheme within the locality. Only for me to read in the papers that Fulani herdsmen cut off the hands of the farm manager of a nearby cassava plantation. An aide to the governor owns the farm, and till date, the culprits have not been caught. You want to arrest senior citizens? Someone will mention Indians, Lebanese and Chinese, but don’t forget that most come with huge capital, the Nigerian government loves foreigners more than some Nigerians and these people have deep networks built over the years. This is something Nigerians who relocated a long time (esp those in the UK) should have built especially regarding entrepreneurship. But being the divided people who we are, they could not do so.

Also, the country is too divided and ethnic bigotry is rampant, so why should say an Igbo man stay when he has the opportunity to leave? Why stay in a place where the people at the helms of affairs don’t like you and keep throwing slurs at you? Worst still, this place is the world’s poverty capital. So, it means even if you would experience racism outside Nigeria, it will be in a prosperous place rather than inhaling tribal slurs in a privation-laden environment. Additionally, elites in Nigeria have second passports and can jet out at any given time. Furthermore, most of the politicians and big business people in Nigeria once worked or studied or did business abroad before returning to the country. So, there is no point wailing or whining that people are relocating, whereas Adenuga, Tinubu, Innoson, Saraki and many, many others did the same thing during their prime. Also, due to the unpredictability, even Dangote has parked his wealth outside the country to mitigate against currency devaluation. You have Islamists in the north (I once fancied owning a big farm in either Plateau or Taraba), and wanton attacks on citizens, including students who were returning to school after wasting almost eight months at home because of strike. Whereas a man who japa’d 25 years ago has his child in a good school abroad and is not worried of the child being at home because of an annual strike ritual.

But errm, Indians and Lebenase are moving to Nigeria. The same India where many are moving to Nigeria has her nationals moving in droves to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and even Japan. That is the thing, people would always migrate. Your parents migrated to where they are/were and if you did after graduation, you had your reasons for doing the same. People are at different levels in life, but would always put economic reasons as the number one for doing so. You don’t know the condition of the Lebanese who moved to Nigeria. Why did he not move to the US or France? He moved where his knowledge and finances can carry him to. Ditto for those who have moved to Canada or the UK from Nigeria.

Live, and let's live.

Lol ALX is not for busy people.
And if you're the type that's naturally competitive, it'll wear you out cos you're expected to be fully dedicated and no matter how fast and efficient you think you're going, you'll always see comments of people that seems they're learning better/faster than you.

Just do you man.
The beautiful thing about tech is that there's enough free resources for everyone to make it.
And you get what you input.

The best way to learn js (or any programming language) is to build projects with what you've learnt...One of the mistakes I made back then was digging through resources (from textbooks to videos), learning syntaxes and terminologies without building, thinking I've known it all...Just for me to realize I indeed Knew nothing...Then to help my situation, I started building small projects with what I've learnt..I started with a Florin Pop's video on youtube (build 10 js projects in 10 hours)...I coded along...built all 10 projects, even though the whole process was quite tedious...But did it help?? It really did!!! Because right now, I can build most js projects (from junior to intermediate) in few minutes...and I mean very few minutes!!! so learn basics, build many projects and be sure to know how each code you write functions ...peace!!

airsaylongcome:

Fair Use Policy can be crazy sometimes. But 200gb speed cap is fair enough for someone who works asynchronously. My kind of job I'd be screwed with any reductions in speed. Another thing people need to consider is the router that their ISP provides. For months I was having speed bottle neck with the default router FibreOne provides. Switched to a more capable Mikrotik router and boom! speed bottleneck disappeared (but they are charging me like crazy for a Static IP)
Mikrotik grin Gets the job done always

How do you suggest I meet them? I will admit, my personality tends to work against me. I'm very introverted and I don't know how to network and mingle.

Is that your group on Telegram? Can you do a whatsapp group as well, if it's not too much trouble?

Mehn... what do you mean by the bolded ? You can always change please, you can always reinvent yourself, and get better.
You need the social skills no matter what, you don't need to become an extrovert entirely but you can grow to the extent where you can switch up your personality to suit the occasion.

Do you need some push/coaching? I'm not a pro or something but if you're intentional about building your people/networking skills then PM

Exactly what my GM said, that with my skills, in no long time I will continue to earn more, if I go to Benin, I will stagnate my progress as I am still a young Lad. I am currently running an online course which my current company gives me time to attend due to the structures I have laid down, moving to a new company might not give me that luxury of time.

Last night, I spied into the email conversations they had, and all my Lebanese Chairman was saying, is do everything to keep him, he is good. This gave me more courage to negotiate more.

I just finished having a meeting with the management board and with counsel from mentors and you guys here, I negotiated for Free meal and HMO with pension, they agreed for the free meal and pension, but disagreed on the HMO.

I thank you all for giving me the courage to take some decisions. If everything goes as plan, from my next salary, I promise a little giveaway to all that commented here.

Thank you all.

Maybe you should go consider that job you're thinking it's below your worth and start from there.

Or what Kind of friends do you have too?

Are you isolated or have peeps around you.

Find one fellowship and be going, be regular... You might find an helper soon
And if you're a Muslim, join MSSN.
