Politics / Abians On Ground Please Tell Us The Situation Of Things concerning this report. by giftft(f): 4:39am On Dec 02, 2020
I recently stumbled on this article. Bikonu, I don't reside in Abia State, I want you all to confirm this report.
Ikpeazu has positively transformed Abia, empowered youths’ – Phillip Nto

The Provost of Abia State College of Education Technical Arochukwu, Dr. Phillips Nto has described as mischievous and misleading an insinuation that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was not performing.

Nto said the governor has positively transformed the state in the areas of education, agriculture, SME development, infrastructure, youths empowerment and purposeful governance.

He said the statement by one Chief Dan Okeke that the governor was more visible in Facebook than actual performance was meant to attract attention, as he was not on ground to appreciate what the governor has been doing for the people of Abia State in the last five years.

According to him, such an unsubstantiated and blanket condemnation of a man who has honestly dedicated himself to the service of the people was bound to attract the wrath of the people.

He noted that the Governor has uplifted education, including ASCETA where he heads, resulting to Abia posting the best WAEC results in Nigeria for four consecutive years.

“A man who has built a record 97 roads in five years, set up shoe factory for youth after training them in China cannot be accused of underperformance.

“Those doubting the performance of the Governor should make out time and visit the state to see for themselves what the governor has done.

“Apart from seeking attention, some of these opposition elements are not on ground. They are merely rumour merchants and attention seekers out to cause confusion’, he submitted,” he said.

The Provost also debunked the claim by Chief Okeke that he (Okeke) was a former ally of the Governor, saying it was a blatant lie.

“The first time he saw Ikpeazu was when I took him to the governor after the 2015 elections for the sole purpose of attracting contract to his company EXPRESS CONCERN LTD.

“By 2016, he had jumped to APC because he did not realise his interest. So how could he have supported the Governor’s elections in 2015 and 2019,” Nto added.

Nto, however, advised the people of the state to be wary of those who are out to destabilize the state through wild propaganda and sponsorship of fake news.

He also urged the governor not to be distracted by the antics of those he described as agents of confusion.

Education / Ghanaian Varsity Offers $40,000 Scholarship To 2019 UTME Top Scorer, Ekene by giftft(f): 8:11am On May 29, 2019
Academic City College, a private university in Accra, Ghana, has offered scholarship worth $40,000 to Ekene Franklin Ezeunala, the candidate who scored 347 – the highest score – in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The College Senior Admissions Manager (Nigeria), Mrs Ogechi Ekpe, said on the sidelines of a workshop organised by the institution for schools and parents at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, at the weekend that the scholarship would cover tuition and boarding for the duration of his programme at the university.

“We have a full scholarship for Ekene. He was supposed to be here today (Friday) but we did not talk about the scholarship today because he was not here. We were to present a scholarship of $40,000 to the boy from year one till he graduates,” she said.

When asked how Ekene would be informed about the scholarship since he was not at the event, Mrs Ekpe said: “We were hoping he would be here today so our President can give him the award. The school is here now. We have to go there and see if we can either take him to Ghana or get our President to come again and give him the scholarship. The scholarship is for real. It is called the Presidential Scholarship so the school pays everything including the hostel fees.”

Ekene, who turns 15 today (Monday), is below 16, the minimum age benchmark to gain admission into his preferred choice – the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), also stipulates 16 years as the minimum age for candidates to take the examination during the admission year they apply. However many private varsities in Nigeria accept students who are less than 16.

Mrs. Ekpe said that Academic City College, which offers programmes in Engineering, Business, Communication Arts and Information Technology, accepts students from 15 years of age because it has system in place to monitor them.

She said: “That is why we want him there. Nigerian schools won’t give him admission but we will. We start admitting from 15 which is why we have a very visible Dean of Students’ Affairs. We make sure that they go to class, especially foreign students. You cannot be in the hostel during learning hours. Dean Ruth, that is her name, she normally goes round.

“There are parents that pay for their kids to be off campus but all international students must be on campus because we don’t want them to have immigration issues; we don’t want them to go off track and start doing drugs. We actually insist that in the first year at least they must be on campus.”

The Ghanaian institution became the second institution to announce a full scholarship to Ekene, who just completed his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Meiran Community Senior High School, Meiran, Lagos.

The first was Gregory University, Uturu in Abia State.

Education / Rivers School In Disarray As Student Brings Chemical Weapons To Class by giftft(f): 4:40pm On May 26, 2019
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that a chemical weapon was detonated at a secondary school in Port Harcourt.

A video of students in disarray as a result of a panic caused when a chemical weapon was detonated Friday, in Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt has been trending on Social media.

Initial reports said secondary school students brought in weapons ahead of a planned cult clash between SS2 and SS3 Students of the school.

An eyewitness who begged anonymity claimed that, “We heard that the outgoing SS3 and SS2 had a clash and they scheduled a fight between the two classes.

“They planned to bring in different weapons for the fight.

“So some SS2 boys decided to bring in their own weapons yesterday to show their mates that they were ready for the fight.

“They brought in guns and grenade teargas.

“Some boys were trying to inspect their weapons then one of them mistakenly detonated one of the grenade teargas and all hell broke loose.”

But while the Police confirmed that a chemical weapon was brought into the school, the Command denied that there was a planned attack or clash between the two Senior Secondary school classes.

The Command in a statement by the spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni said the Police responded to a distress call from the school leading to the arrest of two SS2 Students; 18year old Nicodemus Nkaparu and 17year of Darlington Sylvanus.

DSP Omoni disclosed that preliminary investigation shows that one of the students brought in the Chemical weapon (Teargas) belonging to his late brother who was a Police officer.

According to him, “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to a video making the rounds and trending On social media on the alleged attack on Students and Staff of Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo by students cultists and unknown persons.

“On receipt of the complaints the Police arrested 18year old Nicodemus Nkaparu and 17year of Darlington Sylvanus.

“The Principal made statement in relation to her complaints and the two suspects were equally cautioned and made statements where they admitted detonating the substance but however denied knowing the substance was a Chemical substance capable of causing panic and tension.

“In his statement, Nicodamus Nkaparu confirmed to have brought the canister from their House which is part of the belongings of his deceased brother who was also a Police Officer. But unknown to him, his friend, Darlington Sylvanus detonated the substance which threw the whole school into confusion as people scampared for safety while some sustained injuries.

“That at the end of the investigation, the suspects were given administrative bail and released unconditionally and asked to return on Monday, May 27th.

“That the incident in Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo was not a terrorist attack not an attempt to kidnap any student. That is was not a semblance of a cult clash.

“Investigation is still ongoing with a view to unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing the culprits to justice,” Omoni stated.

The Founder of One Love Family sect, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has said the current agitations and quit notices happening in Nigeria, will not lead to war.

He stated this while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Ibadan on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the establishment of the Maharaj sect in Nigeria.

“I have declared that there will be no war in Nigeria despite agitation for break up and quit notice in some parts of the country,” he said.

Maharaj Ji also stated that political officer holders will continue to be corrupt, until the adoption of traditional oath taking.

“Corrupt politicians will continue to go scot free in as much as they are not mandated to take oath by the god of thunder during their swearing-in,” he said.

Politics / Niger Delta Warlords List Demands, Vow To Declare Republic September 1 by giftft(f): 5:14pm On Jul 17, 2017
Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators has condemned the recent alliance meeting between the Yorubas, Middle Belt, South East and Niger Delta Elders.

The coalition in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday also hinted that it would declare Niger Delta Republic on September 1 if its demands are not met by the Nigerian government.

The group said while the Niger Delta leaders could meet Igbo and Middle Belt, it was against Yoruba which allegedly acts against the interest of the South South region.

The statement reads: “The eight years of President Olusegun Obasanjo was a total disappointment. He failed to develop the Niger Delta or resolve the Niger Delta issues. Even the NDDC he created was not funded in order to drive the development of Niger Delta according to master plan.

“After so much agitation and pressure by the Militants, Obasanjo decided to nominate Goodluck Jonathan as running mate to ;ate Yar’adua, the Yorubas were not comfortable having Vice President from Niger Delta, this was demonstrated in 2014 APC Primaries election. The Presidential candidate was zoned to the North to complete the tenure of late Yar’adua while the Vice President supposed to be zoned to the South South to complete the tenure of the Niger Delta.

“But the Yorubas ignored and brought their son. Today the Yorubas have the Acting President and the Minister of Works, Power and Housing who ignores the East-West road and concentrates only on Benin-Ore road, which is their own.

“The Acting President tour of the Niger Delta states was a camouflage to deceive the Niger Delta people. After many months since the Acting President visited, there is nothing good come out from the visit. The call by the Acting President for the relocation of the head office of the Oil/Gas companies to their operational base was a great joke which we know even if he is the President he would not enforce it.

“The greatest enemy of the Niger Delta people are the Yorubas. They constantly do everything possible to frustrate the progress and development of the Niger Delta region. They are in control of the Oil/Gas companies, they pay taxes and royalties to Lagos state government instead of Niger Delta states.

“If we are to continue as one Nigeria from October 1st, 2017 we demand as follows: Restructuring and True Federalism that will give all the zones equal right; Total Resource Control; Removal of the Group Managing Director – NNPC; Removal of the National Security Adviser; All the Oil/Gas companies and their servicing companies must relocate their headquarters to their operational base.

“Also, there must be concrete arrangement that come 2019, the President or Vice President must come from any of the Niger Delta States; Sixty percent (60%) of oil blocs in the Niger Delta should be awarded by Niger Delta people.

“We resolved to unfold the programmes for October 1st, 2017 declaration of Niger Delta Republic on September 1st 2017, if the Federal Government failed to meet up our demands as stated above”.

The statement was signed by General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs) and Convener: Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators; General Ekpo Ekpo – Niger Delta Volunteers; General Osarolor Nedam – Niger Delta Warriors; Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete – Niger Delta Peoples Fighters; Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw – Bakassi Freedom Fighters.

Others are Major-Gen. Ibinabo Horsfall – Niger Delta Movement for Justice; Major-Gen. Duke Emmanson – Niger Delta Fighters Network; Major-Gen. Inibeghe Adams – Niger Delta Freedom Mandate; Major-Gen. Ibinabo Tariah – Niger Delta Development Network.
