Zambia beat Algeria 1-0 in Constantine to move within three points of Group B leaders Nigeria in African World Cup qualifying.

The National Broadcasting Corporation has banned five Nigerian songs having tagged them as “Not to be Broadcasted.”
The banned songs are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice’s “Living Things.”
The corporation released the list on Tuesday, saying it has banned the 5 songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves.
The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday said that the video to Olamide’s “Wo” violated the Tobacco Control Act 2015.

The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single.
“This is our position: video contravenes the act. Innocently or otherwise Tobacco Promotion Advertising Sponsorship is banned in all forms.”
PREMIUM TIMES could not immediately ascertain why the songs of the two other musicians were banned.
In June this year, the federal government, through the Ministry of Health, had launched a campaign to ban smoking in public places including motor parks, shopping malls and health care centres.

The Health Ministry, in a communiqué, said according to Section 9 of the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act 2015, once convicted, offenders are liable to a fine of at least N50, 000 and/or six months’ imprisonment.
Tweeting the information via its official Twitter page, the Ministry of Health claimed that the video, which features ghetto scenes in which youth are seen smoking, encourages second-hand smoking.
This is not the first time that an Olamide song will be banned by the Nigerian regulatory body.
In 2016, just a few months after the ban of one of his songs ‘Shakiti Bobo’, NBC also banned, ‘Don’t Stop’ which is a track off Olamide’s 5th studio album, Eyan Mayweather, for its vulgar lyrics.

Defending the decision at the time, the NBC said the song was banned from being played on the airwaves for its ‘obscenity, being indecent, vulgar languages, lewd and profane expressions like ‘wa gba ponron’, ‘I just want to hit you now’, ‘je kin wo be…”
Rapper Falz had also in June criticized Ngerian musicians who glamourise fraud with their lyrics, a criticism fans took to be directed at 9ice for “Living Things.”
The actor and rapper stated that the recent trend of hailing Internet fraudsters in music is not helping future generations as the young ones are beginning to see this as a normal way of life.
He recounted the personal experience of challenges faced by Nigerians in other countries as a result of cyber crime.

According to the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, it is prohibited to promote or advertise tobacco or tobacco products except between a manufacturer, retailer and consenting persons above 18 years of age.
“No person shall promote or advertise tobacco or tobacco products in any form.
“No person shall engage or participate in any tobacco advertising, promotion or sponsorship as a media or event organizer, celebrity or other participant,” it read.
According to the 2015 law, anyone who violates the law faces the risk of a fine and jail term of not more than one year.
Persons that produce or publish advertising, promotion or sponsorship content shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000 and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year.
If the tenets of the tobacco-control act are followed to the latter, then the rapper is at risk of N3 million fine, one-year jail term over ‘Wo’ video.

The founder and General Overseer of Radiant International Church, in Zambia, Bishop Cephas Mabo, has been arrested by the police in Kasama for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl.

The bishop who was arrested Friday night was said to have raped the girl, who is one of his church members, in the bush where they had gone for fasting and prayer.
The victim was said to have attempted to commit suicide after the incident.

Dailymail Zimbia reports that Northern Province Police Commissioner, Rechard Mweene, while confirming the development to Radio Mano News last night, said “the incident happened around 15:00 hours on Wednesday in the mountains along the Kasama-Isoka road.”

The Commissioner of Police added that the 45-year-old Bishop who resides at Kasama’s Malama compound has since been detained in police custody and charged with rape.

He gave the victim’s name as Ethel Namukoko, a resident of Compensation compound in Kasama.
The CP disclosed further that “the victim sustained a painful vagina from the ordeal.”

He said that “Ms Namukoko attempted to commit suicide following the rape ordeal and is currently admitted at Kasama General Hospital.”

I love Nigeria. I'm very proud to carry the green passport anywhere in the world. And I have gained much respect from carrying the passport anywhere in the world except in Madrid, Spain in May, 2012 and in Turkey in April, 2015 where I had some rough encounters at the airports. I'm a proud Nigerian but with the current high level of agitation from different groups in different parts of the country to gain independence from Nigeria and become independent countries, I'm afraid my dream of ever being a proud Nigerian is gradually becoming rather translucent and Utopian.
For the records sake, the Igbos need Biafra Republic, the Niger Deltans need Niger Delta Republic, the Yorubas need Oduduwa Republic and the Northerners need Arewa Republic. So who is holding the other(s) back? Each of the regions is complaining of marginalization, so who is marginalizing who?
The answer lies in fact that the various federating regions have entrenched a formidable structure of mutual pathological hatred, suspicion, delusion reference and delusion persecution among themselves. If the Nigerian situation were a conjugal affair a law court would certainly dissolve the marriage on the ground that it has broken down irrevocably.
There is incontrovertible evidence that there is longer love lost among the federating regions. The wise thing to do now to avoid the Yugoslavia and Rwanda episodes is for a referendum like as we just witnessed in Brexit and that of Scotish bid to exit the UK. No group can be forced to join a federation if done it always fail in the long run. The former USSR is a good example. When the about fifteen republics were amalgamated following the October, 1917 Bolshevik revolution led by Lenin and ruled with iron fist no one, probably except George Orwell (real name - Eric Arthur Blair), author of the aligorical satire - Animal Farm - would have envisaged the collapse of the USSR. USSR crashed in 1991 and several former republics reemerged from its ruin.
Nations rise and nations fall or get fragmented. The process could be bloody or peaceful depending on how it is handled. There were the Egyptian Empire, the Roman Empire and until after the Second World War, the British Empire that was hard hit by Adolf Hitler. The notion, therefore, that a particular country is indivisible, remains within the realm of falacy. Texas was part of Mexico but elected to join USA after the Battle of Alamo, San Antonio in February, 1836. Alaska was part of Russia and there was Senegambia. So in Nationhood there is no permanence of oneness if the people so wish.
In as much as I love Nigeria and proud of it I pray against what will lead to bloodshed or war. If togetherness is our problem we better sit down genuinely and discuss the terms of divorce and alimonies, if at all there are any.
We cannot continue to sit on top of explosives while holding naked fire. We must find the solution now.

55-year-old Catholic priest has been arrested in the Philippines for allegedly booking a 13-year-old girl for sex through a love-vendor, police and church officials said on Tuesday.

A police report said Monsignor Lagarejos was arrested on Friday as he brought the girl to a motel in Manila’s suburban city of Marikina.

Police said it was allegedly the third time that the priest solicited the services of the girl, whose mother complained to police about the love-vendor, prompting an entrapment operation that led to the arrest.

Police have filed human trafficking charges against Lagarejos, who remains in detention.

The Diocese of Antipolo, which has jurisdiction over Lagarejos, vowed to cooperate with authorities in the investigation, “even as his guilt remains to be proved and the precepts of the constitution grant him the presumption of innocence.”

The Diocese said in a statement that it has taken every step to hold him answerable for the charges brought against him both before the Republic and before the Church.

The Diocese said Lagarejos has been relieved of his pastoral assignments and barred from having contact with the public except his lawyer, other priests and church authorities.

Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, who has been assigned to investigate the case against Lagarejos, said it would take about a year.

The Senate on Tuesday finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military agency.
The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had separately passed the bill last year.
However, after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.
The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves‎ the harmonised version.

It is not clear if the presidency will approve of the bill as several departments in the executive including the police and the military are opposed to the legalisation of the Peace Corps which is currently a private NGO.
