Religion / Re: Northern Christians To Pastor Bakare: Timothy II 2:24 by Gword: 5:37pm On Aug 10, 2012
karl max: Those who still think bakare is a man off God,can they point to the bible where a prophet of God ran for a political position, like becoming the king or ruler?.where in the bible did a true prophet of God was a card carrying member of a political party and at the same Time a preacher in God's church?. Bakare should read this verses of the bible that the group recommended to him.
I pity his followers.

2 Timothy 2:24 which is that "And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."

David was a King and a prophet what u call pastor these days.
Moses was a ruler of the Israelites and a prophet
Jesus is described as the King of Kings and also he operated as a prophet while on earth.

so nothing wrong with doing both if you have the mandate from God.

Education / Re: Unilag 2012/2013 Post UTME/ Admissions (part III) by Gword: 1:36pm On Aug 09, 2012
buster: Just want to tell u all d bitter truth. I just confirmed there wouldn't be change of form this year. The supplementary list wld be released nxt week but it wld contain list of those dat are abt 3 - 5 marks to d cutoff mark. Its all because the faculty of education refused to be a dumping site for those dat do not make their faculty's cutoff point. Instead they would take any candidate that choosed education as their 1st choice so for d person score above an aggregate of 40

This is confirmed. I went ahead to talk to an admission officer and he confirm something similar.
Usually the form suppose to be out by now.

I got full details below

Unilag Change of course form 2o12

cheers.

Career / Re: Biologists (Environmental, Micro, etc) : Let's Meet Here And Discuss by Gword: 6:06pm On Mar 03, 2012
Zeddicus:

Hi guys.
I read Environmental Biology. Finished service last year october. Since then, getting anything called white collar job, that has to do with the course, has proved to be VERY hard. People even scoff when you say 'Environmental Biology'. They are always like 'what's this one?'. Thankfully,am fending for myself with my online programmes. I also currently have a minor admin role in an engineering company. Planning to quit the role as soon as my online ventures become strong enough to depend on and head back to school. Have always wanted to be a lecturer. So am looking at going back to school for my Msc and PhD. The current job climate in our country is one that doesnt favor people like us. In the sciences, the only ones that have a chance of getting employed without breaking much sweat are our brothers in the Medicine Faculties. Infact i felt so bad during NYSC. These guys were treated like kings and queens just for reading Medsurg,Medlab,Opt,Anatomy etc. And most of them were retained. However, all of us wont be doctors and nurses(even those that wanted,Jamb didnt allow,LOL). So,i'd advise biology undergrads to start looking at SKILLS they can acquire rather than depending on the jobs that don't exist/or are very hard to come by. Otherwise they'd be in for a rude shock. Looking forward to seeing more guys here.

@Zeddicus,
I share your concern and submission.
However not many people have the privilege or wisdom to do what you
just advised, which is very brilliant.

The problem is which skills do you learn? and at what cost?

What I will add in addition to what you said is targeted upgrade.

what do I mean - don't make the same mistake twice.
Most students, just want to get into school, by all means. They dont care the course, after they graduate they
finally realized there are few or no jobs for them.

If you made that mistake before - not this time. This time target your development.
Find out where you want to work- then go and get trainings or skills in that area.

Meanwhile, there are employers who are still looking for you. The problem is that they can't shout (advertise)
It's your job to look for them.

I read a story of how a 2:2 grad who read an obscured course and had to upgrade to secure a lucrative job.
I attached the report, you can read it and find some wisdom in it.

In summary, go and add value to yourself. Then the job will come fast.

Take care.

Career / Re: Physics Graduates: Lets Meet Here by Gword: 5:44pm On Mar 03, 2012
To Reply to Taiw (m) Inquiry

Every professional is trained for a purpose and will always find that answer within himself.
Employment is not the preserve of some professionals, we all have to make ourselves competitive.

I know of a friend who works in a telecom company and he read zoology. what happened? He empowered
himself. Someone said he's doing a certification course, very good strategy. Employers are looking for ready-made
employees, the better you are closed to a finished product, the more you can get that job from them.

So the question is what do you do?

upgrade your value.

Find ways to add to your Physics degree - you need to be multi-tasking in this age and time.
It's sad that our leaders are not looking at the development of this country, where people like you
would be key players, but life must go on - find areas you would like to get a job in and get the necessary
value that will be needed there.

Not just you, many courses are facing job extinction in this country.

No need to bemoan any course.
There are companies looking for people like you everyday.
You need to find them.

Goodluck.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Job Seekers: What Course Did You Study by Gword: 1:51pm On Feb 06, 2012
This is a very important step in getting a job. Thank you to the originator.

I may also add that to hasten your job search effort you can
take some other targeted steps.

Examples.

Find out:

1. what are your most marketable skills?
2. what kind of jobs can you do- you need to think beyond your Degree
3. where do you want to work?

Then you can have clarity. without it you will burn effort and money.

Then you need to have a very good plan of attack to get a job.
if you do this well in less 14 days you should have at least 2 interviews.

I expect you to have a job in 30- days if you know how to implement this system.

I do it all the time. So its easy.

Take care.

Send Naija employer THANK YOU LETTER?

Yes - it works. Lemme share my experience with you.
I work as a HR consultant. Most times the candidates that get the job interviews and offers
are those that take a different step.

What do I mean?

We look at three things.

1. Your presentation
2. your Qualification
3. Your passion

How you present your Resume or CV matters. It must be different from others
There are many things you can do to look different.
-change the design
-don't include some unimportant things
-place your value connecting with the employer needs where it will be noticed.
-use a hook that will attract the employer.

Cover letters are very effective. But there is a way to make it deadly.
I will talk about that next time.

Thank you letters? It depend how you relate well with your intended company.
You need to create a Passionate but not desperate attitude.

Connection is good. Depending on how you use it. However, you will need to still prove yourself.

One thing that is bad about some job seekers - the way they look for job is porous.

Dont just use forums and Tuesday guardian - there are better more effective ways.

I see many 2:2 get jobs faster these days than even the 2:1 and First class.

Why?

passion and perception.

degree don't get jobs these days, you have to bring something to the table.

So get to work.

Learn, there is a way you use a cover letter and Thank you letter that it will produce
remarkable result. use them wrongly - you're fried!

The brilliant ones learn the difference.

Have a great day.

Does anyone know when they will conduct the exams?

These cut-offs are so low, as if more admissions for all.
