Agriculture / Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by Hafolabi: 3:06pm On Feb 26, 2018
Dear all,

Quick update on the planned fish farming using existing soakaway.

1. The fish are now 3weeks old (picture attached)
2. Arrangement with my friend that takes care of feeding seems to be working, i hope it stays that way, although, i also added another person to the supervision, and he has good knowledge of fish farming serving as advicer. Note none of them are there permanent they only stroll in to feed at intervals
3. We received 670 fingerlings and so far we have only recorded 1No mortality (we suspect overfeeding and late replacement of water)
4. I was advice by the experience supervising friend that, we should keep to a particular source of feeding, as the taste differ from product to product, hence he suggested the recently procured 2mm acqualis 5kg should not be administered (it makes some basic sense so i agreed)
5. Your point about pumping out water came through, not economical in anyway, lessons learnt DO NOT HAVE YOUR FISH IN SOAKAWAY, fuel is almost a kill, especially with scarcity
6. I will keep the house posted on development

[b]New Plans.

7. Please advice seroiusly
8. I intend to now build up a pond that we would drain manually inside the same property area
9. Proposed to stock with 4,000 fingerlings
10. Same arrangement of supervision
11. Propose to now engage my friend (same as above) to continue the supervision (we have discussed mutually, although compensation not yet established)
12. We will still keep the experienced supervisor on advisory and quick trouble shooting
13. Is it a good timing? economically what's your opinion, or would you suggest we finalize on the pilot scheme
14. I am most worried about theft, because nobody stays there permanent to keep an eye, with this volume, how best can i approach it

At all my Oga's please advice sir.

robonski15:

1. You can start with clarias, you can start with 600.. (What size are u buying?)

2. In my opinion i don,t recommend using suck away pond for fish farming, more so using surface pump is kinda hectic, buying fuel every three days to pump out water.. With 8 feet deep sorting will be strenuous. Its a pilot project lets see how management plays out.

3. you are good to go.

4. I have never met anyone who did this and succeeded to be honest with you. .. Is the individual well trained on fish farming? or just a random guy to throw feed to the pond.

5. Ride on

6. Good to go.

7. dont over feed, sorting is important, change water when due, with the depth of the pond you should be very observant.

3. Ok
4. Something like that, although he did same with a fish farm around the neighbourhood for some few months, but no much of a training received, but its the only oprion i have at the moment
5. Ok
6. Ok
7. Very much appreciated

I will keep the house posted sir.

Dear all,

Please i intend to start my fish farming with an existing pond 9ftx9ftx8ft (initially constructed soakaway, but never been used),picture attached for your reference

1. What specie of fish do you recommend i start with and how many fish can i keep in the pond, i've ordered 600 fishes @ N21/fish from my adviser
2. I intend to use a surface pumping machine to drain out dirty water at intervals, how often do i need to do this? can this system work in your opinion
3. I intend to cover the soakaway with net to avoid birds pick up fish from the pond, hope this would not reduce circulation of air and result in loss of oxygen
4. I'm not always available at the house, i have a mutual agreement with someone to take care of the fish while i'm not around, what do you think
5. This is a pilot test to see the feasibility, what will you advice,
6. My budget for the pilot scheme is around N40,000 (fish N12,600, pond cover N15,000 and basic plumbing N11,600) excluding feeding, from all i've read feeding seems to average between N350-450/fish i.e N270k overall
7. What are the do's and don't peculiar to my situation

Kindly advice

Regards

Mmh, my experience was back n secondary school days, there is this chick that I always got this crush for, thk God I’m over her, I have planned, schemed, all the words for her, school closing bell was the only thing between me n my fantasy, aside the regular petty traders, I was the first student at her school gate, trust boy o’ boy n my knickers with all d spot on my legs, the team of girls showed up with my crush in between, as they move pass me I stayed mute and glued to that same point, it did not occur to me I was too close to the school gate, I should have kept some distance but only with d fear I may miss her amongst d crowd, I hurriedly follow suit, i tried to excuse her from her friend’s but she refuse to leave demanding I should say whatever it is I have to say, I wish any of you guyz went to any of d school within CMS compound (where I blocked them is Igbo ogede cms grammar sch staff quaters), she insisted I should say what was on my mind in the presence of her friend, the only thing that came out of my mouth was, do you know me (her mum has a shop n my area n shes familiar with me), she said yes, i ask again do you know me because my mumsy sale beer in your area. Pls don’t ask me what happened …

@ poster googles & hescool advice are worth it subject to the nature of the relationship and the individuals involved, try and establish the following and be very factual, how did u meet the lady in question? how has the relationship feared? when did u notice u started experiencing this feeling according to this ur expression "the feelings that I had and that endeared her to me just disappeared (i mean, I just blanked out)", wat do u do for a leaving? wat does she do? do you have shared interest? wat memory of her will be a part of you forever? wats dat thin dat you will miss dearly in her, should u decide to leave her? wat has change between the two of you of lately? how were u brought up (single parent or both)? how old is she to you? does her parent or guardian approve of you? how about your folk, do they approve of her? did u change anything of late dat drew more attention to you? did she? does she nag? does your eye follow all everything in skirt (trousers nowadays)? if yes, she always complain? do you think she has all the time to start a new relationship with someone else? do you have the time as well? paint a scenario of a new relationship? wat are does things you see in the painted scenario that she does not posses? do you think you there are any chance you can tell her you fell out of love for her? imagine if she tells you d same? well most of the above as weird as they sound should be well thought about before you opt for any of GOOGLES & HESCOOL advice (and i really don't expect you to reply the questions)

i think the economy as a whole will rebound in say 18-36 months

@tkb417 obviously you're more into short term activities with which u're a master of (which u've my most undivided respect), for u to erase the fact that between your projection of a re-bound in the economy vis-a-vis the present market situation there is going to be changes in power (Election both n legislative & executive) and our dear old naija been a country too good with continuity will in my projection come with variant agenda from the inactive 7point we have or that we have not at the moment, be that has it may, with the present economic policies, i believe all and sundries are most interested in reducing significantly the effect of their exposure (thanks to meltdown), embracing a more rewarding lean and efficient market models. with the sharp continuous fall out of the real sector i think it will be very unwise to project a probable recovery for our economy at this time (one can only do so if all things are equal), with the almighty CBN and an inconsistent policy formation leader all seems not to be well with our economy, the construction industry with which i belong is bashed with this utmost reality (many construction activities no significant progress), how long will you recall any executive commissioning a throughly completed project, my oga that is the present situation we are in, in my own opinion, but i look forward in anticipation to rebound in line with ur projection. thank you

Hey guyz, good to meet you, just finished my service year, i've been with a contractor for some time (actually serve there) and i have verse insight into consultancy (trained with CONSOL), but contracting is a serious ball game entirely, @darthmaul why not try unilag's construction managment (flexible programme), i'm presently looking into stepping up into a more cooperate organisation, well lets see how it goes, @muyiwabank how is the CM programme? would love to do facility management in the Uk, should u have information on that please feel free to share.
