Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How To Identify A Scam Interview Invitation by HenriYire(m): 11:40am On Jul 06, 2023
LaurelP:
I have seen so many Nairalanders complaining and lamenting their ordeal in the hands of fake scam companies who invite people for interview only to introduce them to fake drug marketing business.
I'm doing this not only because these companies waste people's time, energy and T-fair going to such interviews, but also because most of these scammers extort money from hapless job seekers thereby making their suffering times two.
Imagine a scammer extorting #10,500 from a graduate who have been unemployed for years, not to talk of the transport fare wasted going to such fruitless interviews or job chat as they usually call it.
Some people even borrow money to pay these sheep in wolves clothing, who promise them heaven on earth. Some will tell you that you will make half a million within 1 month and all that. If you're not careful, you will take a loan that you will not be able to repay thus causing embarrassment and lack of rest of mind. An unemployed person should have only himself to worry about, not having debts also.

So I believe that if we are properly guided, we will not fall into the hands of these scammers.
Having said that, there are ways by which one can identify a fake or scam interview invitation and there fore avoid such waste of time and money. The good thing is that most of their messages come in the same format, so you will know its fake!

1. The message does not bear a company name: most of these scammers won't include their names on the message you will receive. All you will see are the address, the time and date and a phone number. A genuine company will not hide its identity from a potential employee.

2. The message will say "interview/job briefing": whatever job briefing means I don't know!
3. You will see a code or reference: something like "HR=0056" or "REF=002". This is an indication of the code number of the person who invited you to the "job briefing".
4. It will contain a phone number: this is the number of your referer. Most genuine companies don't give phone numbers.
5. You will see HR Admin in the message instead of company name
6. If you call their number, they will be reluctant to give info on the company.

And pls, ignore those people sharing job flyers on the streets, and those ones they paste on walls. Those are scammers and some ritualists too. And also most of these so called agencies are avenues for duping unsuspecting job seekers. Pls shine your eyes well well.
I will post the names of some of these fake companies/ agencies later.

Pls if you have any experiences inthe hands of these scammers kindly share it here so that others can learn and avoid them too. Thank you

Cheers!

Politics / Tinubu; The Modern Day Jesus by HenriYire(m): 5:01pm On Apr 16, 2022
TINUBU; THE MODERN DAY JESUS

Politicking is more often than not, a game tainted with low blows and below-the-belt attacks, and for the most part that unique make up of frosty accusations, half-baked propaganda and shameless insult-slinging is usually acceptable to all the players involved.

But veering outside the lines of political warfare into the controversial and impassioned world of religion, is not a line many contenders are willing to cross, maybe because like anything connected to religion, it often comes at a high cost.

A tasteless poster recently making the rounds shows a picture of newly-declared presidential candidate and Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo over a message that reads:

"The Judas who betrayed his master. Repent because Jesus is coming soon."

Firstly, as a Christian I am deeply offended by the vile and rather tasteless comparism of Jesus and Tinubu; (if you haven't deciphered it yet, the 'master' in the caption refers to Tinubu; Osinbajo's alleged benefactor) more so, with what this season of easter connotes.

This is not necessarily because Tinubu isn't in his own way influential but Tinubu just isn't Jesus and a betrayal scenario just doesn't adequately sum up the relationship he has with Prof. Osinbajo. In fact, the amateur copywriter and Tinubu's zealous political strategist who coined the offensive caption has shown that they lack the political mileage to support their betrayal claim, because if they really know anything about the Osinbajo and Tinubu mix, they would know that the relationship both men shared was more mutually beneficial than predatory.

But their biggest flaw wasn't their badly-worded text, it was more their thoughtless religious analogy and how disrespectful it is for Christians and Christianity, because if their vindictive word play had involved anything close to an Islamic premise, they wouldn't be as smug and self gratified as I am sure they presently are.

Crime / Beware; Your Instagram Account Can Be Hijacked With Fake Copyright Infringement by HenriYire(m): 6:04pm On Jan 29, 2022
BEWARE; YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT CAN BE HIJACKED WITH FAKE COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT CLAIM.

If you have by chance gotten some activity on your account in recent times or seen a pleasant spike in your account followers, then you are probably a target for the latest Instagram account hack by fraudsters.

Here's how they operate:

You get the following message on whatsapp claiming to be from Meta Support: This was what I actually got from them.

Instagram | Meta Support
Your account will be closed!
Hello @codex_ng
Your account has been reported for copyright infringement.
Copyright rules are important to us. That's why we have to process your account.
Your account will be permanently deleted from our servers after 48 hours due to copyright reasons.
If you think the copyright infringement and complaint is wrong, you can appeal by contacting us at the link below and filling out the form.
Appeal Form:
https://metasupportappeal.ml/form/
Thanks,
From,
META
© Instagram, Facebook Inc1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CS 94025

In my case, I got the above message and another WhatsApp chat from someone claiming to be a lawyer from the company 'claiming infringement.' When I asked what company it was he was representing he sounded vague and that was my first clue that it was a scam.

Anyway, the appeal link from the official looking message purporting to be from Meta Support opens a well designed domain with a suspicious url that ends with '.ml' and not '.com' (https://metasupportappeal.ml/form/).

The above url inconsistency might probably not be noticed by people who aren't very techy but the website it opens up to will then request for your IG name, IG password, Email address, Email address password and phone number ( I have attached a screenshot of the form they sent me in this article).

If this doesn't raise a red flag for you Instantly, it should. No one should request for your email address and password of that same email address, especially not on a url that is not .com but .ml

Anyway, after delivering some choice words to the thief/thieves and their family members, he/they scurried into the darkness in shame; maybe to find another victim.

I saw the following tips on how to protect your account from fraudsters, so lemme quickly share.

How to protect your Instagram account

As soon as your data goes to the scammers, they can take over your Instagram profile and modify the information you need to recover it. From there, they can start demanding ransom to give the account back to you, or start spreading spam and all kinds of malicious content using your hijacked account — not to mention what might happen if you give away your e-mail password to the scammers too.

1. Don’t click on suspicious links.
Always check the address bar for the URL of the Web page. If instead of Instagram.com it says something like 1stogram.com or instagram.security-settings.com, get out of there quick, and don’t even think about entering any personal data.

2. Use the official Instagram app from the official store — such as Google Play for Android, or App Store for iOS.

3. Never enter account login credentials for authentication on third-party services and apps.

4. Enable two-factor authentication in both Instagram and your e-mail account.

Nairaland / General / How Gtbank Enabled Hackers To Empty My Account- Part 2 by HenriYire(m): 12:55am On Jan 06, 2022
I have banked with Gtbank for years and would before now swear that the bank is the best thing since slice bread but my recent encounter with the bank when my phone was stolen left me shocked at their lax attitude to security protocols.

I detailed this encounter in a comprehensive post when my phone was stolen and I rushed to the Gtbank branch on Admiralty way, Lekki to transfer the money in my account out and was told it had been done but later discovered that it hadn't.

Find the post link below:

https://www.nairaland.com/6916645/how-gtbank-ensured-hackers-empty

The follow up to that story is as shocking as the first.
I returned to the Gtbank branch at Admiralty road, Lekki on Tuesday 4th January 2022 to make a formal complaint.

I met the operations manager and after listening to me impatiently, the guy went away and located the same cashier that attended to me on the 24th of December 2021 and claimed that he had effected the transfer that led to my account being emptied.

They huddled together with a manager and for the next one hour kept whispering amongst themselves and looking through something on a computer.

One hour turned to two and I kept waiting without any update of any kind. I somehow assumed they were clamping down on the places and people that the stolen money was sent to so I was content to wait.

I eventually got tired of waiting and had to return to work but before I left I asked what they were doing about my case and received a shocker.

They were actually pouring through CCTV footage trying to prove that I was at the bank about an hour before the money was removed from my account and so they didn't have too much time to effect the transfer I requested.

I went mad.

The truth is that the Gtbank security protocol is not designed to protect your money and everyone who still uses Gtbank should know that for a fact.

So, if you have never lost any of your Gtbank financial assets like ATM card or phone or bank security pin, you are shielded from this truth, but as soon as you lose any of the above, you are wide open for hackers to suck you dry.

You have been warned.

That was my first move. Told them to block the account but they said the code was not working. Can you imagine?

Abilistic:
I feel your pain bro....

Those shenanigans bank staff can be so frustrating atimes.

You should have confirmed your balance and block the account instantly at the bank.

It's so unfortunate!
Business / Re: How Gtbank Ensured Hackers Empty My Account by HenriYire(m): 10:01am On Jan 03, 2022
Didn't have the ATM with me. True, I should have just called my network provider and blocked the sim card instantly.
I relaxed when the bank cashier at Gtbank told me the funds had been transferred.
My mistake.

Fyie:
How long did you waste trying to get help from bank? You had enough time but wasted it.

You didn't have ATM card to remove your money from your account?

You should have called your network provider with another sim to help you block your sim

Oga Next time password your simcard..

Losing your phone in this country is a scary thing. You are definitely at risk. Sad.

lecturer50:
This is horrible.

I wonder how they were able to know the password to transfer the money.

Like the phone number I am using has a password with which I alone can transfer money from my first bank account to someone.

How they were able to know that password is baffling.

It means that it is very risky to lose your phone or your line.
Business / Re: How Gtbank Ensured Hackers Empty My Account by HenriYire(m): 7:27pm On Jan 01, 2022
Tried doing that from a laptop but the transfer required a token or a code sent to my phone ( which was in the thieve's hand at that time)

bigl:

Eeya, sowie Baba ... I feel your pain ... Get a good lawyer and put your papers in order.

On the other hand, you should have gotten the nearest phone or internet enabled laptop, logged into your gtbank internet banking and moved all the money straight to your wife's account which, should have been saved as a beneficiary.

Those bank staffs do behave like demons and also, do conive with criminals to defraud customers ....

It is well ...

A STEP BY STEP ACCOUNT OF HOW GTBANK ENSURED HACKERS EMPTY MY ACCOUNT

My name is Henry Amrevurayire and I operate a Gtbank account with account number 00114677947. My phone was stolen on Friday 24th December, 2021 around 10am, and I immediately went to the Gtbank branch on Admiralty way, Lekki to report the incidence and request for the account to be blocked. The following scenario occurred:

1. I was offered a USSD code and despite several attempts to block the account, I was told that the code was non-functional due to some platform issues.
As a last resort, I decided to transfer the money in my account and alerting the employee at the reception desk of the bank, he gave me the following Gtbank official line 09055793262 with which I called my wife and promptly got her account number. I have attached the text message she sent with her account number to the aforementioned line with the time clearly showing that it was 10:59 am.

2. I requested for two withdrawals;
One cash withdrawal of N30,000 and a transfer of 150,000, all the while stating the urgency of the matter.
The cash withdrawal came while I was still in the banking hall at 11:14 am ( find attached mail receipt to prove time ) and I was told that the other transfer had been effected. I left and returned about 30 minutes later when I called my wife and discovered that the amount had still not been transferred, I immediately returned back to the same bank ( it's minutes away from my office) and made a complaint about not seeing the transfer and was told that there were some irregularities and I had to sign on the withdrawal slip and change the amount, all the while complaining that they need to urgently do the transfer because my phone had been stolen.
The cashier again confirmed to me that it was done and that I could go.

3. For reasons unknown to me, the cashier refused to effect the transfer for the next one hour plus ( I left the bank the second time around past noon) and it was not until 1:24 pm ( find email proof of withdrawal) that the fist illegal debit of 90,000 occurred.
A total of 140,000 was eventually removed from the account after continuous attempts by me to get Gtbank to move the money but to no avail. Find attached proof of deductions done after Gtbank refused to transfer the requested amount.

4. I demand that the amount taken from my account ( N140,000) be immediately replaced by Gtbank because of their negligence towards security protocols to frustrate illegal transfer of funds from unsuspecting accounts. From the recent complaints from several Gtbank users, there seems to be suspicions of some kind of conspiracy between Gtbank and account hackers to steal from innocent Nigerians and this needs to be addressed urgently.

Please note that as a seasoned media professional I intend to take all available legal steps at my disposal and use my diverse network of media contacts to make sure word about this reaches all Nigerians both online and offline, if my money is not replaced Immediately and this security negligence addressed appropriately.

So, I decided to go back to the Gtbank that enabled this hackers steal my money, you never know someone inside the bank might be collaborating with them to empty innocent people's accounts.

I detailed my shocking experience in my next post..

Politics / Prof. Osinbajo Defends Africa At United Nations Energy Summit In London by HenriYire(m): 9:25am On Oct 09, 2021
His Excellency, the Vice President of Nigeria is presently in imperial College, London at a United Nations (UN) high level event on energy transition in Africa agenda with a special focus on Nigeria.

The VP is there championing the unique energy challenge of Africa against the backdrop of the move to achieve net zero emission. He addresses the gathering on the subject of just and equitable energy transition.

He recalls that this is the second time the FGN has collaborated with the Imperial College, the first time being with Prof Leslie Drake from the Dept of Epidemiology on the Nigerian National School Feeding Programme which feeds over 10m schoolchildren.

The energy challenge is a huge challenge and any energy transition has to be one that is fair and balanced.

He notes that we are looking at two very different existential problems- how to move millions out of poverty and achieving net zero. The transition to net zero emissions is a serious challenge for developing countries.

VP describes the premise for a just transition and explains that we cannot have a just transition, if we follow the programme as laid out by the wealthier countries.

The VP and the HMS Environment went into a private session to review the Nigeria Energy Transition Plan and the Integrated Energy Plan.

The International Energy Plan is advocating the least-cost approach to achieving Energy 100% electrification by 2030.

Business / Finally, A Dispatch Platform That Aggregates All Dispatch Riders! by HenriYire(m): 11:30am On Jul 19, 2021
Navigating through Lagos is, without doubt, a logistical nightmare, and this in itself is the reason why there is a constant pop-up of delivery services across Lagos.

From clogged streets to half-blocked passageways, Lagos has always been known for impatient drivers and extreme traffic situations.
So, when a few forward-thinking entrepreneurs decided to cash in on the chaos by building delivery service businesses, they must have consulted the right gods because their ideas instantly hit pay-dirt.

The rationale was that it is easier for people to send things from point A to B without having to meander amidst man and machine to commute to their destination.

Cut to 2021, and a few young entrepreneurs decided to cash in yet again; they build a platform called Dispatch Finder.
Dispatch Finder was designed to be an on-demand platform that aggregates different types of logistic services across a verified delivery network, for small businesses and individuals to request and access fast pick-up and delivery services on the go.
If you are a business owner or individual looking to find trusted and verified delivery merchants in your area, that can help you safely deliver stuff from point A to B without the stress and nightmare that comes with dealing with logistics.

You should check out DispatchFinder

Or if you own a delivery business and you are looking to find thousands of customers that desperately need your service.

You should probably check out DispatchFinder.

So, whether you’re a company or a one-man delivery service, you can get listed on www.dispatchfinder.ng and connect to thousands of potential customers across Nigeria. Or if you just need fast and cost-effective dispatch services, you can find it easily at www.dispatchfinder.ng

Thank me later.

THANOS; A Remake of Avenger Infinity War/EndGame's Villian Profile.

First off, I need to categorically state that Thanos is a big deal.

If he wasn’t, the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn’t have positioned him as the one to create the biggest standoff of the entire franchise; a face-off with earth’s mightiest heroes.

After an impressive trans-dimensional sojourn across the universe, the imposingly-ripped, lavender-skinned villain conqueror simply known asThanos finally hit pay dirt.

He had a finger-snapping Eureka moment. He looked across the intergalactic landscape and decided that the universe needed pruning.

There was a glaring disparity between its finite resources and its infinite life forms. The universe was a fast sailing ship, on a collision course with a boat-sinking iceberg.

Can you see what I am getting at yet?
The truth is that Thanos is a genius.
Uncelebrated but a genius nevertheless.
We basically owe him our lives. We should all gather round the master mind and sing him praise songs that would reverberate across the universe.

But we have instead flagged him wrongly; branded him a villain.

You see, no one else had the balls to do what Thanos did.

Not universe-leaping regulars like Thor, Captain Marvel or the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thanos crafted a simple economic solution to a problem that has plagued the world for years.

The sad truth is that the universe is dying and its resources with it.
Why? We have too many people feeding off it.

Economists have over the years slaved to find a sustainable system where the finite resources of the earth would match the infinite life forms that inhabit it.
That search is still ongoing.

Yet when a single-minded intergalactic life form like Thanos decides that the only way to save the universe and it’s bludgeoning inhabitants is to prune it with a snap of his infinite-stone powered fingers, the avengers are all riled up about it.

Simpletons.

Can you see my point now?

So would you rather guard a universe where its life forms are unable to survive another life cycle because its resources have all been used up by its entitled population?

Maybe Captain America might be a bit consumed by his exaggerated ‘Americanism’ or Ant man by his annoyingly small-time philosophy, but I expected more from genius-minds like Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.

Anyway the last time I looked, Spider man was still tethered to his friendly neighborhood viewpoint and Thor too engrossed with trans- galaxy accommodation challenges, so who, if not a universal high-flyer like Thanos would be totally invested in fixing the world?

Let’s not be quick to judge a book by its dust-covered wrappings.
Not everything that looks strange is actually Dr. Strange.
