Culture / Re: Yoruba Language Is The Most Influential Nigerian Language Outside Nigeria. by Hope4pple: 9:16am On Jan 10, 2012
Ileke-IdI:

You're Yoruba point blank. Dont be disrespectful to your father's culture. Your paternal side determines your ethnicity (Yoruba).

As of right now, Nigeria is garbage. So dont wish bad things unto yourself.

Seriously! You're kidding right?

How the hell does appreciating both my father's and mother's culture mean I'm being disrespectful to my father's culture.

If tomorrow I chose to pledge allegiance to the United States and not Nigeria (because the country is filled with people who can't think logically) , what you think does not freaking matter!!!
Culture / Re: Yoruba Language Is The Most Influential Nigerian Language Outside Nigeria. by Hope4pple: 10:22am On Jan 09, 2012
I'm amazed at how people get so riled about a post that's clearly divisive.

BTW, I'm Yoruba on my paternal side, and Benin on my maternal side (I speak both languages); I see myself as Nigerian because that's the only way forward.
Politics / Re: Jang: Only Haters Of Nigeria, Economic Recovery Oppose Subsidy Removal by Hope4pple: 11:02am On Jan 06, 2012
When I heard of the Nigerian government deliberating on removing the subsidy, I knew the removal would help the economy in the long run because the subsidy has been a form of corporate welfare for the cronies of government officials.

However, when I heard the subsidy removal triggered an astronomical increase in fuel prices, I realized that it should have been a gradual process so as to ease the impact on the pockets of the masses. Presently, the outcome has been horrendous and harmful to those it was intended to help.

The problem with adopting policies that create a freer economy in Nigeria (a country battling corruption) without first confronting and eradicating corruption, and instituting programs that'll help poor people/ middle class to be self sufficient (e.g, providing government backed loans for people to start business), is that it leads to terrible unintended consequences.
Family / Re: 5 Things Every Extrovert Should Know About Introverts by Hope4pple: 10:22am On Jan 03, 2012
"In nigeria, being introverted isnt necessarily seen as an anomaly, unlike what obtains in western countries like the US. Back home, its not uncommon within the same family for some to be extroverts while others are introverts. So, people grow up knowing everyone does not have the same type of temperament. However, this doesnt seem to be the case overseas- america in particular."

tpia, you're assumption that in the U.S people do not recognize differences in personality is incorrect. I believe I came across this article on its original source several months ago and it's definitely a U.S source.

In fact, I believe people here understand differences in personality more than they do in Nigeria. You're conclusion was a gross generalization.

Business / Re: Why Can’t I Make Any Sale (need Advice)? by Hope4pple: 6:36am On Dec 13, 2011
I've been trying to find an exclusive distributor in Nigeria for a shaving razor and surgery razor company (a different company) for almost 6 months; and it's been really difficult.

I figure it's way more challenging to find a representative. Does anyone know about a representative and distributor?

okeyxyz, mekula, kokorunna, I appreciate your advice; I guess the challenge is to find a representative that'll accept 2% sales commission.

P.S: I'm still looking for a distributor for the shaving and surgery razor company.

Thank you.

People, I need more advice. I need ideas on how to sell personal care products without having to go to Nigeria in person.

I appreciate your advice (neksummi, buzor); I'm considering that, but I'd have to travel to Nigeria.

I'm surprised that a Nigerian can lose about $50,000 to a Chinese scammer (who provided little evidence to know the business exists), but Nigerians can't believe a fellow Nigerian abroad who can provide verifiable information about the company they are dealing with: that's an unsettling reality.
Business / Re: How Do I Settle A Business Dispute With An American? by Hope4pple: 7:33am On Dec 08, 2011
Although you can try to sue, I don't think it's worth the hassle. Consider whether the amount or the value of your loss is worth spending money to litigate the issue.

I'd advise you to use a form of alternative dispute resolution to attempt to resolve the issue, as opposed to a lawsuit.

Furthermore, if the actions of the company is criminal (fraud), and you report the case to the U.S government, they will probably attempt to pursue the case.

Check the following links; I think they'll be helpful,

olas2u, did you email me any information? I’ve not received anything from you yet.
Business / Why Can’t I Make Any Sale (need Advice)? by Hope4pple: 6:14am On Dec 08, 2011
I’ve been trying to connect Nigerian buyers with a U.S manufacturer (of personal care products) for almost 5 months now. Some buyers show interest, but when they see they need to pay before the products are shipped, they no longer show interest. I feel they think it’s a scam, (i don’t blame them) but I also think they should know better (based on catalogs and price lists provided).

If they want to determine if the company is legit, they can simply google the company’s name and visit the website themselves.

In fact, they can go on Los Angeles’ Fictitious Business Name website to search if the company’s name is already in use.

I can also provide the company’s recent article of corporation. After doing all these, I believe anyone who’s still not convinced they are dealing with a legitimate business has serious discernment issues.

I’d appreciate any advice on how to go about selling the products.

Thank you.

Business / Why Are Most Nigerians Skeptical Of Doing Business With Nigerians (in The U.s)? by Hope4pple: 3:23am On Dec 06, 2011
In trying to find buyers for an American manufacturer of personal care products, I’ve emailed and called a lot of Nigerian distributors and large retailers (to be fair, a few of the people I’ve spoken with are Indians doing business in Nigeria).

Initially, they show interest, but when I send them the terms of sale, they start flip flopping, then eventually they tell me they’re no longer interested. I’ve even explicitly asked one of the potential buyers that I’m willing to provide him whatever he needs to prove he’s dealing with a legitimate business.
