I started listening to her show 'Hard Facts' on Nigerian info recently and I also couldn't help noticing how rude she talks to callers. There's a lot of attitude on her show. In as much as the topics are interesting and will make a nice discuss, her attitude stinks. Matse, pls work on yourself.

Career / Re: What Is The Salary For Social Workers In Nigeria. Please Advice by ibkaa: 9:53am On Sep 20, 2010
Hi, I used to be a social worker before I joined the oil and gas sector. A career in social worker is still relatively new in Nigeria. Most people own NGOs because of their desire to give back to the society or to make money - the era of HIV and AIDS, where loads of money was being pumped into it.

I worked for an international NGO and I can tell you I was being paid more than 150,000 a month as a temporary staff. This excludes all the other opportunities such as international travels and massive exposure you'd get within and outside the country.

Do not let comments on this post deter you. I will suggest you apply to the international organisations, who pay you a reasonable salary, there are loads of small international organisations that even pay more than the 150,000 I was earning at the time. The local Ngos do not pay well and I hear they even owe their staff whenever they have funding issues.

I hope you find this useful.

Take care and all the best.

Family / Re: Pls Help A Faithful Wife In great Pains: by ibkaa: 4:04pm On Aug 05, 2010
Babe be wise, ask God for wisdom and take your time and try to resolve the issue with your husband, he's your husband and you're the only one that understands him and knows where it hurts. No one can really tell you what to do. The ultimate decision lies with you. But I'd encourage you to get a source of living, it can even get worse than it is now, who knows? Let your motto be prepared.

If I were in your shoes which I'm not, I'd consider myself as having two options; to endure all through and pray things turn out for good or get out of an emotional abusive relationship and get a life. I grew up under an abusive father and my mum took my dad's s*^h forever, so I think I understand you to a large extent.

You should enjoy life and not live each day in tears and unhappiness. Nobody deserves it. You're in a land of opportunities. Start with your local church, which I think is pretty easy coz I doubt your husband will be against you dedicating your life to God. From there you can start getting some jobs or referrals who knows. And I know for sure that nobody serves God in vain. He's everly faithful and He will see you through. Be careful in choosing who you listen to and who you make friends with. Remeber you now have a child and that child deserves the best.

You're certainly in my prayers from today onwards.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Have Been Invited For Shell Job Interview by ibkaa: 10:23am On Mar 17, 2010
Whatever Southsea. I didn't say I was new to nairaland, I said I'm new to contributing to the thread. I don't know what you're doing on this thread if you would be withholding information. All I'm saying is, it's better not to talk at all, than give bits and pieces of information that might be useful.
Romance / Re: My Boss Wants Me Or Get Fired by ibkaa: 1:37pm On Mar 10, 2010
This should not be too difficult to answer.  You both are adults, She is single, are u single and available?  If yes, then check what your office policy says about staff dating, see if you're not violating any policies.

If you're not interested in her, stand your ground, be firm when telling her you're not interested don't say something while your body language contradicts what you're saying and at the same time gather as much evidence as you can against her (thank God for technology), coz if she decides to pull you down, she goes down as well.

@ Tj Crown, I'm new to contributing to nairaland beacuse I've had issues with accessing nairaland.

I can confirm South Sea's claim that some people have been invited for medicals and have joined shell. However, I don't have anymore information as to who or when Shell will invite people for medicals or send out offer letters.

Just keep praying and trusting God, By His Grace, you're next in line.

@ SouthSea, congratulations on your new job. However, you didn't have to give everyone the impression that you were still a hopeful when you had already started working with Shell. The joy of this post is when we can share our aspirations, fears and success stories and then provide the necessary support needed.

You got your offer letter in December and started work in January and didn't think of mentioning it to the house until March, of course, nobody would have taken your new job from you.

You were the only one to mention the shell informal interview, why didn't you tell the house that you had been invited for an informal interview, that you've been asked to pick up your offer letter? It one thing not to talk about your application status at all, which will be highly appreciated than giving bits and pieces of information indirectly when you know you had enough information to make others smile/cry.

I wish you all the best in your new job and if I remember clearly Honesty, Integrity and Respect are the core values of Shell, you'd need to work on that as you assume your new role with Shell.
