Career / Re: Abuja Magistrate Orders Lawyer Handcuffed, Jailed For Challenging Him by iboman(m): 7:29pm On Mar 23, 2021
Barrywilly:
It was wrong for the lawyer to be interrupting the magistrate while delivering his ruling. The best option is to appeal the ruling on the basis of his perceived wrongs. He deserved what he got even though it was wrong for the magistrate to take law into his own hand. You cannot be an accuser and the judge at the same time.

U are on point except for one aspect. A magistrate can sentence summarily for contempt committed right before him. A magistrate delivering a ruling is just like a judge delivering a judgment. No one dares interrupt. The lawyer was too brash. However, I think the sentence is a little too much. A week or 2 weeks should've been ok though I can't fault the magistrate in any way.

Education / Re: Similar Everyday Words That Are Often Interchangeably Used Wrongly by iboman(m): 8:49pm On Oct 04, 2017
Determinism:

11. THERE/ THEIR: There simply is a (physical or mental) location (of something), whilst their is a second/third person pronoun.

Example: Their house is right there.

13. IT'S/ ITS: It's is a contraction of "it is", while its is a pronoun that expresses "belonging to".

Example: Its main property is that it's very coerce and tough, slow but stable.

NB: when in doubt of which to use, substitute with "it is" to see if it fits properly in such context. Same applies for "am" and "I'm".

14. YOUR/ YOU'RE: YOUR is a second person pronoun, while you're simply is "you are".

Example: Your dog chewed on the phone. You're therefore responsible for whatever replacement(s) must be made.

"their" as used in no. 11 and "its" in no. 13 are adjectives, not pronouns. Both are like "your" in no. 14.

It's wrong for the magistrate not to have taken a plea. It's human rights abuse. Besides, such a simple offence is bailable and the accused should have been granted bail...

If for close to six good tears innocent people were dying and little was done to solve the problem of boko haram not until now when they have political motive to achieve that prompted such decisive action to be taken. I think this calls for questioning the authorities. NIGERIANS CANT BE FOOLED WE ARE WISER AND WE CANT RISK ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF IRRESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT-FULL STOP
No time will Nigerians not complain. If we're to go by undertones, then even a simple "is" has many. Let the boko haram menace stop whether by politics, by warfare or any other means.

The right spelling cannot be 'cause' which is akin to because. The right spelling should rather be 'curse'

Religion / Re: Testimonies On Why We Stopped Tithing Here by iboman(m): 1:16pm On Oct 06, 2013
At first I tithed religiously, then I studied the bible more and felt the tithe teaching was somehow wrong especially as church workers do not enjoy the benefit of tithe. But I didn't have the boldness to question what a MAN OF GOD has uttered though pondered over it severally. Then I discovered something that made me conclude these so called men of God are mostly ordinary humans. They quarrel among themselves, up to the stage of calling names and enmity, they fight over church money, sharing formula, politicking as to where to be sent; they break away for no just reason to form their own churches, they build schools from everybody's contributions and then make them very expensive etc. All these made me thinking: these are mere men! And if mere men, I can question what they do. Then I saw in the bible that we should question all spirits and I saw John 1:12 that by merely believing in Christ, I become a son of God, and therefore a heir to God's kingdom (Rom. 8:16-17) and God allows his sun (rain) to shine on both d good and the bad. I came to realize that I'm not under any curse once I'm in Christ even though unpleasant things may come. To cut a long story short, I started living my own life as a Christian instead of the life as dictated by a man of God, I research into the bible more and ponder more.

My Conclusion: offering as a Christian should be voluntary, not obligatory. Christians who see others with divergent opinions (such as this issue of not paying tithe) as being used by the devil are certainly not Spirit-filled as they claim because a spirit filled-person will not say such. A spirit filled person is cautious of uttering negative statements as admonished in Jude. He's not concerned with mundane things but how to be more and more like Christ. This is the point of departure of modern day Christianity - our crave for money and living in fleshly affluence is beguiling us. Peace be to all of us.

Religion / Re: Can You Be A Christian And Still Be Gay? by iboman(m): 7:59pm On Sep 02, 2013
Hezron Lorraine: this is a very big lie.

Love your comment though.the points you noted will be in the part2 the following sunday.

I don't think it's a lie. First and foremost, accepting homosexuality as a way of life is contrary to God's purpose for creating them "male and female", not "male and male". Secondly, once you accept the homosexual way of life, there's no sin factor again hence no struggle to overcome sinning against God as in cases where one feels he's sinning and has to overcome it. Now, when the adulterous woman was brought to Christ, though he said "let he who has not sinned cast the first stone", yet he told her to sin no more.

It is true that Christ associated with sinners but he always encouraged them to stop sinning. His style was using love to encourage sinners to stop sinning and not like the phareses way of using condemnation to stop sin. But Christ emphasized righteousness and humility hence he would say "except your righteousness exceeds that of the pharesees, you cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven" and "he who would be the greatest should be like a little baby". And Christ sermon on the mount raises the standard of righteousness expected of Christians far beyond that of the jews.

In conclusion, I'll say I don't think Christ would've accepted the homosexual way of life. It's clearly contrary to God's purpose in making them male and female, encouraging marriage, destroying Sodom and Gomorrah and the general condemnation of homosexual activity in the Bible.

It was wrong for Governor Amaechi, whatever may be the case, not to have at least sent the Attorney-General. It seems he has forgotten that it was the courts that brought him in as governor in the first place (Up till now, I can't fathom how the Supreme Court arrived at such a decision). If I'm almost always at loggerheads with people, I should take a self-appraisal and try to, as we say, mellow down. After all, as Christians we are to 4give and 4get because vengeance belongs to the Lord alone.
Nairaland / General / Re: Why Are U Scared Of Knowing Ur Hiv/aids Status? by iboman(m): 11:33am On Oct 07, 2011
I think it's the most difficult decision I've taken in my life. It took me about 10 yrs to finally finally come to it. From secondary school through university and post uni, I looked for every reason not to go for the test.
When finally I was forced by pressure to go through it, I couldn't eat. I like to say I fasted but deep down I know it wasn't that. Of course, I repented of my sins with deep contrition, promised God heaven and earth of good behaviour and even tried some christian tunes I could recollect. Ironically, it was Feb. 14 and arguably my holiest or most pious day on earth. Then it was done and during the waiting period, I prayed like a true man of God.
Such a relief when it came out negative. I felt the joy of a man who had lived all his life in great penury suddenly coming in contact with billions.

Religion / Re: God Allegedly Directed A Pastor To Divorce His Eloped Wife by iboman(m): 3:40pm On Sep 18, 2011
I support the pastor. Let him marry. 15 yrs of trying to be an angel? He tried. Christ said a man can divorce his wife on the ground of unchastity. Where a woman has abandoned her husband for as long as 15 yrs, unchastity can, at least, be imputed. Pastors like John Hagee never had to be left, he left and I think he's still a good pastor.
