IdaraCHODB: 2001 Neighbor says very reliable but consumes double the fuel that Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and its equivalents form Korea would consume. Says if the cost of fuel is no object, go ahead, you will love the vehicle. Vehicle parts are not costly. The fuel consumption is understandable, it runs a 3.8L engine instead of a 1.6L or 1.8L |

bravolad: Definition: This type of driving is especially hard on a vehicle because the engine spends most of it time at idle where it works less efficiently. Because the water pump is turning slowly at idle, the cooling system can overheat on a hot day. Continual stopping and starting also accelerates wear on the brakes, clutch and automatic transmission. When combined with short trips, the engine never gets a chance to reach full operating temperature so the oil becomes contaminated much more rapidly. Therefore, this kind of driving usually means more frequent oil changes and more frequent brake, clutch and transmission repairs. http://autorepair.about.com/library/glossary/bldef-754a.htm and this: http://autos.aol.com/article/hard-driving-changing-engine-oil/ Extract lifted: Let’s start by trying to understand the differences between normal and severe. The severe schedule, which always has shorter recommended intervals between oil changes, applies if any of the following are true: Most trips are less than 10 miles (16 km). This is particularly important when outside temperatures are below freezing. Most trips include extensive idling (such as frequent driving in stop-and-go traffic). The vehicle is frequently driven in dusty areas, like on dirt or gravel roads. The vehicle is frequently used for towing a trailer or using a carrier on top, both of which place extra demands on the engine. The vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi, or other commercial applications .... This sort of driving can be hard on oil because the engine isn’t allowed to completely warm up to operating temperature, especially during the winter in cold climate areas. When the engine is cold, it operates in a mode that richens the fuel mixture, which causes excess fuel to spill down past the piston rings and into the crankcase. This dilutes the oil and breaks down its chemical fortifying packages, ultimately diminishing the oil’s ability to flow. This change in viscosity decreases the oil’s capacity to protect the internal engine parts, and to resist vaporization and oxidation. Other damaging effects are acid buildup and ash, causing further viscosity breakdown as well as internal sludging. and this Severe driving conditions include driving in stop-and-go traffic or excessive idling, making frequent short trips (less than 5 miles per trip), driving in extreme temperatures (over 90 F or below freezing), and towing and hauling. The average driver probably considers his or her driving conditions normal, but the truth is that most of us drive under severe conditions far more often than we realize and should time our oil changes accordingly. Ikenna351: i beg to differ from the position some of you took. Oil of a vehicle driven mainly in cities should be changed frequently, more often than one use for long distance. Use of vehicles in cities or short distances bring more wears & tears on such vehicles than one use frequently on long distance. Reason: story for another day. Ikenna is correct, city driving (stop and go traffic) means the car should follow the severe service schedule that's because long distance drives are far easier on the vehicle than stop and go traffic. |

Mlud: A Nigerian governor in perhaps the Southern most apex of the country during a TV debate to seek a second term criticized his opponents not for their advanced age but the age of their ideas. I want to highlight two or three sentences above: Anybody remember Peugeot Automobiles in Kaduna or VW in Ojo Lagos? Where are they today? Why have they been condemned to another page of Nigeria's economic history? Many of their products still ply our roads though. Those were questions not statements of fact as I see them. I kind of feel he is saying what he observed and wants your input on the same. In the first question, he seems to be recalling the good old past and inferring that things are not as rosy as they were before. Isn't that true? Wasn't there a time the government's fleet was nearly completely made up of locally assembled vehicles? Wasn't there a time Toyota's didn't command the following that they do? And that 504's did? In the second question, he restates the obvious, they are not dead, but they are definitely not where they have been before. In the third question, I see a lament, he wishes things could return to the past. In the last sentence, he acknowledges that they are not dead and done for which gives hope that given the right conditions, it could b better. Sounds to me the author was quite balanced in his exposition and shouldn't be attacked. |

domack99: I have a Mazda Millenia 2002, Mazda could be some how technical with lots of electronic interface and interaction which makes it complex for most Nigeria Mechanics to deal with. Am presently intersted in Mazda 6 Grand Touring, 2009 Model. I found out that most people that own this car hardly sell it which makes it more expensive now. Mazda are very strong automobile and their parts may be scarce apart from 626. Mazdas are fine cars, but Nigerian mechanics prefer Toyotas, then again we like to copycat, so Toyota wins. Since the vendor wants to make money, he follows the scent of money and that means you can find toyota parts everywhere and anywhere. Nuel is indeed the Mazda Franchise holder in Nigeria 1 Like |

brooklyn49: wow....great job guys....tanx loads One more thing, I will never again use a temporary spare tire since I am not comfortable doing 80km/hr steady and also I think you should prevail on him to replace it with the full tire as I did |
![]() |
brooklyn49: waking up this morning to find our car wit deflated tyre yet ma eldr brother wana use temporary tyre n travel from Uyo to Calabar.this is nt going dwn well wt mi...advice welkomd!!! @Sienna answered well. It is also highly recommended to replace the temporary spare tire with a full size tire if your car came with a temporary spare. The manufacturers were driven more by cost-cutting than safety in introducing those tires. Can it be done? Yes. It happened to me. I was doing a 200km+ drive. In the daytime, Abuja to Bida, but because of factors beyond my control, i returned at night. And guess what, my rear tire exploded after getting into a very bad pot hole, well am very good at swerving to avoid pot holes without losing control of the vehicle, but this was night, so i didn't swerve. I went in and came out with 3 tires. So i had to stop by the bush, that was so risky and did a tire change as quickly as I could and what did I change to? A temporary spare. I did over 180 km on the spare doing 80km and above. It got me home safe. But i was more careful since those tires cannot be as trusted as the full-size tires. The truth is if you do more than 80km on those tires, it doesn't mean that the tire is going to explode but it means you are nearing the design limits of that tire and risking the vehicle and your life and if care is not taken the lives of others, am not sure its a wise thing to do. Then again some maneuvers should not be done on such a tire, but when you are on the highway what's the guarantee that you might not have to make such maneuvers? There is a lovely discussion on that topic here http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2144249/how-long-can-you-drive-on-a-factory-spare-tire-really and here http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/repair/how-long-can-you-really-use-your-spare-tire-7710515 |

fashrules: hi everyone. is it advisable to get an audi A6 or A8 2000-2003 car for use here in nigeria? i have fears that it might be hard to maintain, mechanics might have issues working on it etc. Your question was meant for Siena but hope you don't mind me contributing. My neighbor has been driving a late model Audi for as long as i can imagine, late model is post 1999 and as far as i can tell he has not run into issues. He is driving it in Nigeria, so why not if not? If you love a car go for it, and if want to keep the car for long, get an education on the car and i can guarantee you, it will be pleasant all through, problems begin when you believe the maintenance of a car is only necessary when it develops a fault (ignoring the manufacturer maintenance schedule or the advice of overlords like Siena who often discover issues the manufacturer might have ignored or didn't take note of) and also when you believe the maintenance of the car is a problem for the mechanic and not your headache, so if you can invest money is a machine on 4 wheels then invest the time and effort and money to keep in running. As you well know, if the car doesn't run. People won't ask you, how are you? They'll ask, what about your car? And depending on how you view life, it might be a big blow on psyche! |

Ekpewu Ohwofasa: Honourable gudday sir, please can you give advice on how to get atomobile wiring diagram CD softwares, you can post the answer on my mail box ekpewuohwofasa@yahoo.com I know you can get wiring diagrams. Not sure you can get them in CD format, online format accessible via a http connection is more likely. Am sure if its for an Audi or Volkswagen, Mr. Siena can help you if you ask him the right way. LOL. But if you need it for other applications and Mr. Siena cannot help you, then I can try. LOL. For which application? for just one vehicle? or for multiple vehicles? If i know i can advise you better I would also advise, it is not best to ask an unrelated question under a thread because that's against forum rules aka 1.Please post on topic always. Don't derail or tribalize threads. All the best! |

Mazda MPV transmission is way way cheaper than the equivalent Toyota Sienna transmission. Same goes for the engine. The parts may be scarce in other auto marts but definitely not scarce in Lagos. There are nearly as many Mazda MPVs in Lagos as there are Toyota Siennas. And if you follow the maintenance schedule religiously you shouldn't have problems. If you need the Engine or Transmission Workshop Manual, shoot me an email and i will be glad to let you have it I usually recommend using a mechanic that knows the quirks of a particular model inside out to a generalist, so its in your best interest to work with someone who knows mazda inside out than say a honda specialist |

wasolad01: I have driven the mpv and had issues with it due to my negligence and then had to fix those issues, it took time but I got to know the vehicle inside out as a result. I know the vehicle because I have participated in rebuilding its engine 3 times due to my abuse, overheating due to opening the radiator cover when the engine was hot and not putting in enough liquid thereafter, etc etc So I can advise you on it |

naturallysmart: Goodmorning house, please how much can i get a gearbox for my mazda mpv 2001 automatic, the car jumps when changing from gear one but runs smooth afterwords. Ȋ̝̊̅§ there anything i can do about it or i shud change the gearbox or convert it to manaul. Please advice me on which Ȋ̝̊̅§ best cuz i'm thinking of using the car for transport on tHe warri-abuja route.thanks You can achieve mpg of up to 25 to 26.8 with your mpv if you 1. accelerate speedily to 60 mph and stay there ; 2. avoid braking as much as possible. Which means it can be an economical transporter. source: http://forum.mpvclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=28125 |

email me about your last request on Car Talk, I have an answer to your query. |

lanre_front: @ Idaracodp Once had a similar problem, the car won't do passing maneuvers easily, after long spells of driving highway, it could only manage to do 60km to 80km. So i prayed it would take me to destination and i immediately changed the fuel pump, and someone could have told you I just bought a new car. Once had trouble misfiring trouble, and then i ordered Denso OEM ignition cables and the misfires disappeared into thin air The question about your odometer reading is extremely important. Any changes made to the car should be documented - the date made, the odometer reading when the change made, and compared against manufacturer recommended intervals as well as so you have reliable data as to when an item might have failed due to age. Am happy you are happy with your ride |

Marpol: Hi, how much for 4 shocks of 2004 Nissan Xterra V6? Summary Can I have your VIN? you can send it to ---? I don't have enough information to give you a part that will fit so there will be no need to do costly returns which will be costly for both me and you Long Form When shopping for replacement parts, we will need the make, the model, the year of the car as well as the VIN. You don’t need to have the number of the part, but if we have all the details above, then we will be able to guarantee providing you with an EXACT FIT, which is what you really want – that it fits the first time and works like it did from the factory. This is so because even identical cars of the same year can use a different power steering pump or alternator. By doing the above, we eliminate the need to do costly returns because the part does not fit, we thus save you money and make you happy with us the first time and all the time. |
