Had to get those ones because of market women that sell on retail, sometimes, it may take one or two days before get ting to the final retailers
Padma has a long shelf life, I harvested FULLY ripe Padma, and they stayed for more than a week( just the very few spoilt fruit). You can keep them to ripen better unless you have dealers that demand for this in your area(my own dey complain sey the tomato nor too red finish)
Agriculture / Re: Bountiful First Harvest In My Tomato Farm by ideepaul: 9:18am On Oct 22, 2020
@oga obatobi1, I did Padma early this year, and faced issues of fruit cracking, how have you surmounted this challenge, and would you use the 30cm spacing without mulching film...nice work you are doing sir, I am also learning greatly from you!

Ok.
So, in a well managed greenhouse, one can get up to 8 -10kg with padma or platinum f1 ?
Padma and platinum F1 are determinate varieties more suited for open-field cultivation, and hence the lifespan won't let you hit the 10kg mark within less than 2 months of harvest before they give up.
If you really want to do greenhouse, then search for indeterminate varieties (just know the seeds are crazily expensive),...
but TOMATO greenhouses in the Nigerian context for a beginner?
Do you really have the capital and CAPACITY to run a successful greenhouse?
Is this the crop that will return the crazy cost of investment on greenhouses?
I hope you have conducted the necessary research needed, don't join the bandwagon of failed greenhouse owners all over Nigeria o

greediness apart, 3k for a crate during raining season and 5k during dry season is a good price. This time last year it was 2500-3000, and people were still happy with the price.
I nor dey do mbok grin grin grin, I cultivate when the value of a particular crop is high and there is a high ROI grin grin . Seriously, the prices are not always too bad, but I have limited access to land, and therefore, the need to maximize the usage by cultivating veges that are at the peak of scarcity, or likely to be scarce.

do you mean 5l for each stand every day? If so, five liter for each stand every day will be harmful to TOMATO! Mean while plantinum is back to naija cheesy cheesy cheesy and I believe it will be cheaper by next month, also price of grade 1 crate now at the moment is 7500k in akure.
maybe not particularly for tomato, but during the dry season, anything less than that for cucumbers daily is not ideal. But are you still cultivating new tomato plants now? I hope the price remains fairly ok, but Hausa tomato will hit the market in the next few weeks, and that might imply price crash sha

I am thinking of using a storex to store the water and connect it to the drip tape directly. Now assuming am setting up for an acre can the pressure from a storex supply water to the drip line efficiently without losing pressure ?
assuming you cultivate an acre of cucumber/tomato, you will have already 10,000 crops with a minimum daily water intake of 5L. This gives you 50000L of water daily for irrigation (it will be definitely far more). Some streams can't irrigate a plot, not to talk about an acre! It's either you drill a borehole, you reduce the landmass, or you relocate

Can Agric Lime be foliar sprayed?

NO sir! And before you use the lime, be sure you need so you don't worsen things. if the pH is too high, instead of applying lime to such a soil, apply calcium nitrate if needed even though it's more expensive
Agriculture / Re: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by ideepaul: 8:35pm On Oct 09, 2020
Agric lime helps to reduce incidents of fruit cracking and blossom end rot, but doesn't have any NPK value and very little micronutrient values associated with fertilizers and manure

Good evening sir, pls how can I get the lime in powder form?
Lime is a powder based soil stabilizer! It's not a manure as it's just CaCO3 or CaMg(CO3)2 meaning the major ingredients are calcium, magnesium and the carbonate, and hence cannot replace the functions of the manure, but rather, supplement it.

I did experience a bit of this but it wasn't as serious as that. It's mainly the rows closest to the cu 999 that were affected. I think the cu999 Gene is dominant.
When the cu99 population percentage gets higher, it will affect the entire Saira population o

Please do you have a picture of this CU 986? I want to try it now that there is scarcity of Saira which is the preferred brand in my state based on Color. Our market prefers light coloured cucumbers. The lighter the colour, the better.

I had tried a pack of Cu999 along with Saira and it was difficult to sell the Cu999.

Thanks in advance.
Don't mix cu99 with Saira, it will turn all the fruit to cu99-like fruits o

That's great. Finding farm lands for lease with water in this town is like finding gold in mud. I'm a woman smiley.
I am so sorry for making a blind assumption on your gender! On finding farmland with water, don't search around Uyo as it would be mission impossible unless you have the funds to buy the land or lease for upto 10 years and negotiate for the option of drilling borehole( this is difficult). Try the surrounding LGA's with good road network and it would be easier and cheaper relatively.
But going rural won't be easy honestly if you have immediate family(husby and children).

I still have thirty eight days to harvest from the second farm. Wish I had this knowledge before my previous sales. Thank you so much. You are the boss my brother.

This is the challenge I am facing in Edo State. No market to take much quantity and nobody is Willing to come to your farm.
I know very little about the Edo market and terrain, so I can't offer any tangible solution(s). The only thing I will say is find large farms, liaise with the farm managers/workers as most of these large farms don't have enough products to meet their demands! Search for the middlemen, these guys can cross rivers and deep valleys to buy your products if you have them in good quantity and you have quality products too especially now that we are headed towards the dry season

I'm quite amazed how farmers in other states can sell even ~30 - 40 bags to customers. I wish that were possible in Akwa Ibom. Plus the price here isn't really encouraging
Boss people dey sell more than 30 bags for this same Akwa Ibom....if your farm is within/around Uyo, and you have cucumbers(Saira only o) in large quantities, bros connect with me, I don't have products right now, and the buyers dey disturb my life

The only thing that will stop Uyo buyers from coming to your farm is the quantity of bags per harvest so they can offset the transport cost! Is your farm far from Kaduna junction close to oboetim?

Systemic fungicides shud not be used alone. Always combine them with a multisite activivity , contact fungicide like mancozeb or copper. This will prevent diseases from building resistance against the systemics ( I.e the fungicide will no longer be effective when used). multisite activivity means that the fungicide attacks many sites in the fungi, making resistance development impossible.

most common fungicide mentioned here are not readily available in my area... luckily I came across one that is contact, systemic fungicide. My question is can it be used during the rains?
Most commonly named fungicides here have contact/systemic active ingredients and they are suitable for the rainy seasons. the best options are the systemic fungicides, just that they are hard to come by and expensive! Anty ifedola has cabrio and it's an excellent systemic fungicide sha.
Btw what crop(s) are you cultivating and what's the name of the fungicide you got

#3000? shocked shocked angry , where is your farm located, that price is not feasible, especially considering the last August break

the last I heard, the yellow bag went for #5000 and the blue bag for 4500 it was still going upwards. It should come down a bit by now as the August break really affected a lot of farmers. Uyo buyers don't care about seed scarcity, they just know the laws of demand and supply
