okoroemeka:watering once a day is quite challenging not to talk of twice I pity those planning one acre with sacks o....btw, has anyone cultivated cucumber/any other vegetable close to a river that has a sandy soil? What were the challenges you faced, and did manure help improve the soil quality? I am asking cos I have access to land there but the entire terrain leading to the river looks sandy, the swamp nearby is a total no-go area |

In as much as there are loads of advantages of using sack, You are more likely to get bitter cucumbers from the sack method than ground if you can't water properly and daily |

aquadude15:I can't say it's good or bad! It's relative to your expenses...I believe you have a farm record, calculate how much you have spent on all farm related activities and commodities, the profit you made(if any) determines the profitability of such a venture. Even if you don't make profit, don't be discouraged, just reanalyze all your expenses and be creative in cost management, e.g it doesn't make sense for you to spray a full knapsack of insecticides and fungicides on such quantity as half is more than enough(a full knapsack should cover between 600-750m² if done effectively) Don't buy multiple chemicals/fertilizer for the same function as you are just wasting money ( a neighbor farm uses Di-grow red and agrovert 12-**46 for fruiting) that's just money wasted as he also uses npk-mg 12-12-17-2 granular fertilizer. If your beds are done well, you may not need to pay for weeding in a cuke farm, since your farm is small. Just uproot every weed you see while walking/working in the farm, and once the cukes grow they will frustrate all weed inside the bed leaving only the paths There are many other instances of people overspending/overbudgeting on simple things. Just spend smartly. 1 Like |

GenBuhari:Please don't pick offense with the response, he is actually helping you! There is no fixed market for farm managers, different people meet potential managers through varying methods. You may see a hardworking labourer who is experienced and trustworthy, you may employ someone through the recommendation of a seasoned farmer, you may also opt to go for a consultant, and spend your time in the farm. It's all about what you want to achieve, and the time available to you. But since you have done groundnut, onions, herbs, and pepper in small scale settings, why don't you use such experience to expand, do you think it is economical to pay a farm manager based on the ROI? I don't do that farm manager sh#t btw! I meet with locals, relate with a lot of them, find the influential people within the area, make friends with them and get a farm spy/village girlfriend who will look after my investment ( things we do for love/opportunities to leave the village ). Make them happy and they will protect your investment when you are not around. Sweetmouth people, but don't promise what can't offer o, and be a man of your word before you loose trust 3 Likes |

Farmerakinloye6:143*105ft(15015ft²) is more than 2 plots(60*120)*2=14400ft². Also a standard acre takes 8000-10000 tomato plants (depending on cultivar, agronomic practise, farmers risk taking ability, time of the year, and your climatic zone). By this standard, 2 plots will take between 2700- 3300 tomato plants. You may decide to add more or reduce based on the your risk taking capacity. Spacing for for Padma and platinum is 50cm, farming concepts and practices are dynamic, so you may adapt such to suite your needs |

aquadude15:2 capsfull per knapsack? I don't know how big the cover is, but I believe it's past 30ml! For a 50ec Chlorpyriphos based insecticide, you should not exceed 30ml, I use 15ml per knapsack on my lil farm and it works ( I was told to use 30ml for vegetative stage and less than 15ml for flowering stage) I won't use it for flowering crops at all though. I don't use predator for the records, but I have tried my hands on other high conc. chlorpyriphos based insecticides. Buy injection syringe from pharmacy stores that will help you measure stuff accurately, and always ask the seller for guidance if instructions on bottle is not clearly understood |

I did that since last month, what you need is to search for a suitable design, the difference won't be much based on what you stated on the pepper thread...when you get a design in mind, just upload the image and I will help in modification of materials needed and necessary corrections to the design...btw if you can spare some extra cash, I would advice you use iron mesh similar to that used for poultry galvanized cage, it's durable an may last for many years |

HornyTave:chicken dung left outside for 2 months? If it's sawdust based chicken dung especially from broilers that you left outside without covering, just know the "manure" is 98 sawdust, and wood chippings has a high carbon footprint which can stunt crop if present in excessively high quantity. The poultry dung you should use should be sourced from layers and not broilers, btw,you were saying nothing beats pig dung based manure have you tried goat and rabbit dungs before? Just try it and I guarantee you will be searching frantically for where to source for them in commercial quantities |
