Education / Re: Ugandan Lady Banned From Attending Classes For Wearing Mini-skirt by idy1(m): 2:11pm On Nov 25, 2016
Azeemokoya:
The Law Development Centre in Uganda banned a young lady from attending lectures for dressing in a mini – skirt as shown in the picture above. The law student identified as Joanine Nanyange, took to Facebook on Wednesday to protest against the unfair treatment she received from the security officers at the centre’s gate.

According to the victim, she said the officer explained that her skirt will distract the boys in her class and make them not concentrate.

Read her full post below…

Today, dressed like this, I went to the Law Development Centre to attend classes. Unlike all other days, I saw two women seated right outside the Centre’s gate, one dressed in a Khaki Police uniform. It was an unusual sight and I thought there was something or someone epic on campus. I got off the boda boda and walked towards the gate. The uniformed woman flagged me down and being the law abiding citizen that I am, I stopped. She asked me to pull my skirt down to see how far down it could go. I burst into laughter. Her request didn’t make sense. She insisted, quite seriously. I told her that was the farthest my skirt could go and there was no need to pull it. The other woman, ever with a very satisfied grin, told me I could not access the campus because my skirt was not long enough for LDC standards. I was shocked. Yes. Shocked. Seeing the bewilderment on my face, the two women laboured to explain. Apparently, skirts like mine attract the boys and men that we study with and bar them from concentrating. So they could not be allowed!!!!!!

During induction week, the Deputy Director of the Centre, a woman, told us we shouldn’t wear clothes that distract ‘our brothers’ most of whom are married. I posted about it here. When I got the so-called rules of LDC, I read the section about dress-code and it’s ridiculous. They even prescribe the colour of socks that men should wear! Having dealt with Ugandan systems, including courts which should know better, I know that until something directly affects you, you are not allowed to complain about it. This far, these rules have not been implemented. Now that they have, I am allowed to complain.

A few years ago, 2014 to be specific, Parliament was debating a law that was dubbed the ‘mini-skirt Bill’ for its apparent prohibition of mini-skirts. As would be expected, the Bill caused an uproar among opponents and proponents alike. On one side, there was anger about the ridiculousness of the law along with its discriminatory and sexist undertones; while on the other side there was excitement over the law’s presentation of fertile ground to ridicule and dehumanise women just for the fun of it. Activists stood up against the law and some of these provisions were removed. But the damage was done. Women had been attacked. Women had been beaten. Women had been undressed. We were livid...

Politics / Re: 15 Things Buhari Is Doing To Cut Down Cost Of Governance By Lauretta Onochie by idy1(m): 2:34pm On Oct 07, 2016
mynaijainfo:

15 Things President Buhari Is Doing To Cut down The Cost Of Governance And Reduce Wastage

1) Buhari and his vice took a paycut of 50% to symbolise their commitment to the cutting down on the cost of governance.

2) Buhari then directed the RMAFC to review and prune down the salary of all public office holder in the country. That review will only come into effect after the expiration of the tenure of the current office holders, as the constitution says RMAFC cannot review the salary to the disadvantage of public office holders the moment they get into office.

3) Buhari reduced the number of federal ministries from over 40 to just over 20. Buhari reduced the number of federal advisers by more than 50%.

4) Buhari has limited the number of his entourage on foreign trips to essential personnels only.
4b) Buhari implemented the TSA to plug leakages in every institution of government.

5) Buhari has used the BVN to fish out over 40,000 ghost workers, thereby saving billions of naira of monthly salary for Nigeria.

6) Buhari removed the fraudulent subsidy, thereby saving government trillions of naira of ANNUAL payment for a programme that was only oiling the pockets of the corrupt.

7) No Federal Minister in Buhari's cabinet can travel out of Abuja without Buhari's say-so, thereby cutting down on wasteful spending associated with aimless travels.

cool Buhari has restructured the NNPC into a profitable venture for the first time in ages, the waste and leakages associated with the corporation has been reduced drastically.

9) Before Buhari appointed his Ministers, he spent months plugging leakages in the Federal Civil Service and Revenue Generating Agencies, resulting in Nigeria having more revenue to fund the budget from the non-oil sector than the oil-sector, for the first time since oil was discovered in Nigeria. Before Buhari took over, the oil sector contributed to 85% of our national revenue.

10) And most recently, Buhari has ordered the sale of 2 presidential jets from a fleet of ten, and directed that some of the jets be transferred to the Airforce for operational purposes thereby saving security agency the purchase cost of new jets.

11) President Buhari turned down moves to procure new cars for his office, preferring to use the ones left behind by his predecessor.

12) President Buhari has reduced the import of certain items we have comparative advantage in producing, in order to reduce the waste of foreign reserves.

13) Buhari also liberalised the petroleum sector, allowing importers to source for forex themselves, thereby reducing the waste of foreign reserves.

15) President Buhari's fight against corruption has also brought in a new discipline in the way public office holders handle money, they are now aware that they may be called to give account of their spending later in the future.

The list of what Buhari is doing to cut down waste and reduce the cost of governance is almost endless. No other president in Nigeria has shown a greater commitment to this course than Buhari. It's true that Nigeria's problem is enormous and it becomes difficult to feel the immediate impact of what he is doing, but to sit down there and call him names because you don't know what he's doing is not only uncharitable but disrespectful

This lovely couple in the photo above, started as childhood friends way back in 2002 and now are planning to get married 14 years later.

The gentleman man proposed to his fiancée, Marilyn Uche Nwoko at a known cinema here in Lagos, and it was quite lovely – the movie was disrupted right in the middle, with different photos of Marilyn on the screen, it then ended with a ‘Will you marry me?’…

She wrote;

So we went to the cinema and the movie was disrupted right in the middle. Seeing my pictures all over the screen with a "Will you marry me?" felt like a
movie on its own…..Everything still feels so surreal. #isaidyes #FaithfulGod #HeMakesAllThingsNew #SoonToBeMrsE #bellanaijaweddings #africansweetheartweddings #preweddingnaija #theknotandbeyond #nuptialsandmore

The people that burnt the thief are no different from the thief himself.
They should still be arrested for murder.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Malia Obama Wears 'Smoking Kills' Tee-Shirt by idy1(m): 8:48am On Sep 06, 2016
grin grin grin
Gistexpo:
Apparently her parents, Barrack and Michelle Obama, were not happy to see their daughter Malia in the social media, flaunting her smoking skills.
Malia had to wear a tee-shirt with the words 'Smoking kills' on it at a music festival in Philadelphia yesterday - just weeks after puffing on a suspicious cigarette at Chicago's Lollapalooza.
She was pictured with a friend at the Budweiser Made in America Festival, with the wise message displayed on the front of her top. At least, she can't smoke with those words boldly on her body.
The Obamas really got worried when the 18-year-old was pictured smoking at the Lollapalooza, with a witness claiming her cigarette contained marijuana.
