The implication of the unconfirmed "China coup" on the new world order and its effect on the rising tension of wars and invasions. Introduction Unconfirmed reports from social media indicate the likelihood of a coup currently ongoing in China. According to the #XiJinping trend, the long-serving political leader and dictator, Xi Jinping, have been placed under house arrest. All flights have been canceled in China, and a media shutdown prevents further investigation into what is currently happening in China. Although these reports have not been substantiated by more reliable media sources, the potential of a coup, if true, has big implications on the dynamics of global politics. In recent weeks, there are rising tensions regarding the possibility of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. In addition to the ongoing war by Russia on Ukraine, the dynamics of the struggle for world power status might be significantly altered if Xi's coup reports are true. Since he assumed power in 2013, Xi has driven China to the forefront of global dominance. With his quest to "unify" China, and secure a world power status, Xi's approach to foreign policy creates realpolitik in Asia's giant. This opinion piece examines potential winners of Xi's removal and its implications on the rising tension of a potential world war. On Taiwan At the just concluded United Nations General Assembly, China reiterated its commitment to a claim to Taiwan. In a show of power, China made it clear to assembled world leaders that anybody who gets in its part to unify self-governing province will be "crushed by the wheels of history." Since Taiwan's separation after a civil war, in 1949, it has functioned with its government. Currently, the Xi Jinping-led government has underscored its commitment to reclaim the city. The claim by Beijing signifies efforts to take the most forceful steps to oppose external interference. Following the visit of the speaker of the U.S House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, tensions have increased rapidly between Washington and Beijing. If reports of a coup and removal of Xi are true, tensions between the two biggest militaries in the world could be doused. The "one China" policy underscores its international relations approach by Xi. A new leader may be more open to international discussion to happen. The potential of an invasion could be reduced, potentially preventing a military showdown that could potentially lead to war. Russia/Ukraine and China/Taiwan: Can the USA stop 2 regional dominant powers at the same time? The failure of the USA and its NATO allies to prevent the invasion of Ukraine by Russia makes a significant statement in the dynamics of world geopolitics. With the continuous military actions carried out unopposed by Russia, the rest of the world can only watch as Russia attempts to reclaim its lost territory. If an invasion of Taiwan were to happen, it is left to see if the U.S will militarily engage China, potentially allowing Russia to run unchecked in Eastern Europe. Experts think the invasion of Ukraine is only the first of Russia's attempts to reclaim its post-cold war lost territories. A distraction in the Asian region by China could be just what Russia needs to advance deeper into territories. Could the WW3 threat be reduced? A showdown between the World's biggest powers and their allies could set the stage for a world war. If Xi's removal is true, the next Chinese leader may not be immediately drawn into the external politics of world dominance. This may reduce rising tensions and allow for discussion. What's in it for Africa and other Asian countries? Xi's administration is at the forefront of many bilateral relationships between African countries and China. From loans to bilateral trade signatures and other Chinese incentives given to Low and Middle-income countries. Beyond the economic incentives, China maintains military bases in Africa. It is left to see how a replacement of Xi Jinping can affect the bilateral relationship enjoyed by African countries with China. Conclusion Although experts think it is unlikely for the removal of Xi Jinping to be happening currently in China, this opinion piece examined the potential of a new leader emerging when reports become clearer. With a potential invasion, threats of world war, bilateral engagements at stake, and a fight for global dominance, the rest of the world is watching what comes out from Beijing.

New Year Resolutions: Sticking to them. New year resolutions are becoming a yearly ritual. Most times, many of us just join the frenzy of writing down goals for the new year only to discover at the end of the that we are still stuck where we started the year from. In fact, we barely achieve even one of the thirty points agenda we penned down. We now carry it over to the next year and the next till we eventually get tired and embrace the status quo. Every year, we increase in age but sadly most people don’t increase in experience and are still invariably the same people they were four years ago. Resolutions are good if stuck and if it makes us better persons. This article gives 5 simple ways to achieve your resolutions at the end of the year. It’s in your head: “Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you’re right.” ~ Henry Ford. This quote shows how attitude influences our life. The power to stick to and achieve your resolutions or to carry them over to next year is within you. The human brain is such a wonderful organ and our thoughts process affects our belief system which influences our action. Therefore, you can achieve your resolutions if you think you can. The power of positive thinking has been emphasized on so much. The fact is that we all think about something, it is part of our human construct, so why not think positively. Your resolutions should follow the S.M.A.R.T. plan: Having a positive mindset is not enough to achieve your resolutions, you need a plan. A SMART plan. Building castles in the air will not bring your resolutions true. You have to outline your goals and the plan or steps needed to achieve them. Set targets and reward yourself: A yearly time plan might be too long to control and becomes tiring. To avoid such, set short term achievable that conforms with the resolution. It might be weekly, monthly or quarterly. This helps keep you and check and monitor you progress. When you achieve your short plans, reward yourself with something pleasing to you. It helps stimulate your brain and prepare you for the next phase. Don’t give up: It definitely won’t be rosy at all times. But when you hit rock bottom, remember why you started and keep on striving to achieve it. Even though it looks like it’s not feasible, it is not over yet. If eventually it doesn’t work out this year, appraise the situation, know where you went wrong and try again better and more experienced next year. Pray: I am sure prayer is a part of every religion. So whatever the religion you belong to, commit your resolutions to God. Anything put into his hands is safe and He sure will help you achieve it.

"Beckham... into Sherrigham... and Solksjear has won it!" Those were the exact words of the commentator during the 1999 champions league final at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. In a match which Bayern Munich had dominated from start to finish, the Sir Alex Ferguson’s boys needed 2 quick goals in the extra time, since dubbed “Fergie’s time” by United faithfuls , to secure a 2-1 comeback victory and clinch their first and only treble in English football. Ole Gunner Solksjear was the hero as he came off the bench to score the winning goal in the last kick of the game. 19 years after, Manchester United supporters awoke with news of Ole been appointed as the new caretaker coach of the team following the sack of the special one, Jose Mourinho. Reactions trailed this appointment and the general concern of the public was if Ole after a disastrous spell with Cardiff City during his first stint in the premier league can lead the United team back to its glory days. It is worthy to note that some top coaches also recorded bad times at their first job but turned out to be better coaches later on. Ole is not entirely new to the Manchester United setup as a coach as he had coached the reserved team before moving to Norwegian side Molde where he won the league back to back. In his first game in charge of the senior team, which coincidentally was against his former side Cardiff City, Ole introduced the fast paced attacking football which Manchester United was known for during the era of Ferguson, which resulted in a 5-1 pummeling of Cardiff City to the delight of fans. In a very prominent contrast to Jose's style, Manchester United dominated the game from start to finish, created and converted their goal scoring chances. Pundits and skeptics however still argue that it is his first game and against a much weaker opposition, but United fans were more concerned with the style of play and the convincing result which hopefully is the start of better things for the club. Nicknamed "the baby faced Assassin," What better way to announce his arrival? Ride on Ole. #GGMU. |

*EXAMINATION* "Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid". ~ Albert Einstein In a few days time it begins, yes, the great battle of the semester. The crowd gradually filling every reading spot in school sends the message loud and clear. It is the time for the dreaded " examination ". It is that time to increase the number of sleepless nights coupled with large intake of sleep depraving beverages in a bid to salvage our grade points which might not make any point later in life. It is no longer a hidden fact that these standardized tests called examination and the grades attached to it does not determine the fate of someone in life. I mean the best graduating medical student does not necessarily becomes the best doctor, neither does the best banking and finance student become the richest. It is with a heavy heart I write this as it bleeds my heart to see many students spend hours of sleepless nights with the only aim of getting an " A" or a "B", without any plan to keep the knowledge for a long time. Sitting close to someone who has being trying to cram the 10 enzymes for De Novo synthesis of purine metabolism made me stare in pity at the large number of students trying to get up to that first class grade which doesn't give a first class ticket. The society might want to stigmatize us with letters on our results and place the " A" scorers as the most intelligent and " D, E and F" scorers as those needing deliverance without even putting into fact that most of this information leave our heads as soon as we submit those scripts. It is quite a pity that these examinations are scheduled not to test our intelligence but our memory. If you think a man with the ability to store loads of information and regurgitate it on an examination booklet is intelligent and more knowledgeable than a critical thinker then our educational system is really gone. How many times have we remembered an answer to a question just minutes after submitting our scripts only to get the results and see perhaps a "B", does it mean remembering the answer 5 minutes earlier and getting an "A" makes you more intelligent and better suited for the first class? Unfortunately in our society it does. While I don't expect everyone to understand this message, I hope the people it is actually meant for get to see the reason in it and do not allow the society's stereotype stop us from seeing the genius in ourselves. I still advocate the need to be among the best but in the quest for that we should not forget the main purpose of us being in school which is to get an education. Education has always been and will continue to be the training of the mind to think and not the regurgitation of facts and figures. Education is what remains with us when we are done with schooling. While there is beauty and a sense of achievement in getting this top scores, it should not blind our eyes to our personal dreams. It is a popular saying that " if you don't build your dreams , someone else will hire you to build their own. I write to those struggling to keep up with societal demands, I write to those already keeping up with it. Our life doesn't stop or even start with the A, B or E on that result sheet or that 4.8, 3.5 or 3.0 we see on our transcript. It is time to build ourselves, it is time to move beyond those restraints, it is time to get up and chase our dreams. It will be an error if we study for 4, 5 or 6 years and leave with only the knowledge of the course we studied. It is a waste of potential and time which may be really hard to come by again. What happened to the dreams, vision, the world changers and dream chasers. The next revolutionary group of people ready to shake the world. It is time to stand up , get up and change the status quo. Permit me to drop my pen here, but before I go , let me leave you with a quote from a spoken word artiste ,Sule Breaks "whether 72 or 88, 44 or 68, we will not let an examination result decide our fate." #Ifeanyi writes #Peace P/S : Suggestions , Corrections and Constructive criticism are welcomed. |

Nad95:There are certain things to look out for when choosing a school . You should consider jamb score, catchment area, relative academic strength( which should include learning conditions, equipments etc) , school fees ( depends on your financial power tho) and many other factors. I don't know if anybody has studied in all 4 schools you listed and if anybody knows the overall learning condition of all. Maybe we will all try to convince you based on the sentimental bias to our individual schools but I hope you pick one or two points and that should help inform your decision. |
