Business / Re: Nigeria Hopes To Topple South Africa As Africa's Largest Economy by Ileya: 1:29am On Dec 07, 2011 |
South Africa has a population of 50M with a GDP of around US$ 500 billion. Nigeria's true population is around 200M. So it should be targeting a GDP of US$ 2 trillion. Until then, I suggest keeping mum is a sensible tactic to adopt. |
Religion / Re: World’s Largest Church Inaugurated In Lagos by Ileya: 1:15am On Dec 07, 2011 |
This is actually quite a huge setuo requiring some serious infrastructure - toilets, health & safety issues, emergency exits, fire prevention. The local traffic situation also needs to be factored in. I trust they ran some thorough computer simulations on the operations and there exist an ample water supply into the establishment, and not just some borehole! Think of Wembly and the number of toilet facilities there, with an infinite water supply and guaranteed continuous electricity power supply, transportation facility to and fro, car parking facility. On average, fans arrive 1 hour before the game, 2 hours elapsed time for the game itself and 1 hour for all to depart. One must allocate 8 hours for a visit to this church. The building is located on a road which is a major exit from Lagos to Ibadan and beyond, the North, East etc. To locate a building of this size with such demanding transporting does not seem very wise. Lastly, but not the least, what about those church visitors who need to return to Lagos after the service. Does there exist an underpass/overpass to allow them to conveniently perform a U-turn. I have witnessed some horrific atempts at U-turns on the 'Expressways' in Nigeria, not a pretty site. I see a horror in the making here. A very large black spot as just been created. |

Health / Indian Health Care In Nigeria by Ileya: 9:06am On Dec 03, 2011 |
Whenever I am in Europe and USA, you would be amazed at the number of high profile Nigerians in the Health System. These Nigerian health professionls play a very important role in these societies. It is to my surprise to now learn that 20,000 Nigerians travel to India annually for medical treatment. Now we learn that the Indians are coming to startup hospitals in Nigeria. Business / Re: Buhari Urges Return To Gold-Backed Currencies To End Inflation by Ileya: 7:13pm On Jul 27, 2011 |
Actually, Seun, this would be a most excellent idea. The only problem is that this would place Nigeria firmly and permanently on the Terrorist List. Backing ones currency with the yellow metal is generally frowned upon by the IMF/World back etc. It is an action that would place us in the Axis of Evil. Besides, it is presently (LEGALLY) impossible for Nigeria to back the Naira with Gold for one reason alone - we have outstanding commitments with the aforementioned, usual suspects, IMF/World Bank. Several things happen when a country borrows money from the IMF/World Bank, I will not go into all of them but will mention the critical ones:- 1. Your Banking system cannot practice Fractional Reserve Lending 2. You cannot back your currency with gold - (As part of the Gold Swaps agreement, the Gold from the Central Bank will be physically moved to London/New York, but more importantly, it most still remain on the books of the Central Bank as though the Gold is still in Abuja, for Auditing purposes) 3. The country must implement suggested austerity measures from the IMF/World Bank Any country that is without outstanding liabilities to the gnomes in Zurich/London/New York is effectively a free, sovereign country. This cannot be encourged. You see, the Debtor is Slave to the Lender. Have you ever asked yourself, why do we have external reserves of US$ 50bn,but still go to these people with cap-in-hand, begging for a facility of 10 million? Does not make sense. Now you know why. The country must be kept in perpetual debt. All these rules and regulations are buried in the annals of the IMF/World Bank. We have basically been sold down the river by our 'leaders', if we can call them that. If Buhari (and other Northern folks) are serious about this, then it might explain the Boko Haram incidents and hence, we should expect more of the same. Gold-backed currency is trully Axis of Evil stuff. Enough said. |

After Oslo: Time to Crack Down On Mossad Terrorism Wayne MADSEN (USA) | 25.07.2011 | 09:05 Israel’s most secret and tried-and-true weapon is the “false flag” terrorist attack. State-sponsored terrorism is defined by Encyclopedia Britannica as the “systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective [and] is employed by governments -- or more often by factions within governments -- against that government's citizens, against factions within the government, or against foreign governments or groups.” On July 22, a bomb, said to be an Oklahoma City-type explosive device, crafted with fertilizer and diesel fuel, blew up in downtown Oslo, Norway, in the heart of the government district. Shortly thereafter, a man dressed in a Norwegian police uniform opened fire on a Labor Party youth camp on the island of Utoya in Tyri fjord. Access to the island was by boat only. Over 100 people were killed in the twin terror attacks. http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2011/07/25/after-oslo-time-to-crack-down-on-mossad-terrorism.html |

Health / Polio Vaccine Blamed For Outbreaks In Nigeria by Ileya: 9:07am On Nov 15, 2009 |
MSNBC.com Polio vaccine blamed for outbreaks in Nigeria Mutation of live virus in oral doses linked to 124 cases this year, experts say The Associated Press updated 1:24 p.m. ET Aug. 14, 2009 LONDON - Polio is spreading in Nigeria and health officials say in some cases it's caused by the vaccine used to fight the paralyzing disease. In July, the World Health Organization issued a warning that this particular virus might extend beyond Africa. So far, 124 Nigerian children have been paralyzed this year — about twice those afflicted in 2008. Nigeria and most other poor nations use an oral polio vaccine because it's cheaper, easier, and protects entire communities. But it's made from a live polio virus which carries a small risk of causing polio. In even rarer instances, the virus in the vaccine can mutate into a deadlier version that ignites new outbreaks. A virologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says genetic analysis proves such mutated viruses have caused at least seven separate outbreaks in Nigeria. The vaccine used in the United States and other Western nations is given in shots, which use a killed virus that cannot cause polio. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32418446/ns/health-infectious_diseases/ |
Politics / Breaking! Horror In Nigeria As Oil Tanker Explodes: Death Toll 80 And Rising by Ileya: 3:58pm On Oct 10, 2009 |
[link to news.bnonews.com] UMUNYA, NIGERIA (BNO NEWS) -- Scores of people died when a fuel tanker exploded on a highway in Nigeria's Umunya on Friday, destroying at least nine other vehicles, including a loaded school bus. The Saturday Tribune reported that more than 80 people died and an unknown number of people were seriously injured in the disaster which happened between noon and 2 p.m. local time on Friday. It happened at the Odumodu Junction on the Onitsha-Enugu highway in Anambra, a state in Nigeria. According to eyewitnesses, the tanker was stuck in a deep hole before it overturned and spilled the diesel it was carrying on to the road. When police arrived at the scene, the paper reported, police officers immediately fired shots into the air, causing the fuel to catch fire. "The tanker burst into flame that engulfed other vehicles that were close-by and equally trapped some of the people that were gathered around the scene [but] were not fast enough to escape," the source said. Five to seven of the vehicles which were destroyed in the blast were passenger buses, with at least one of them being a school bus loaded with children from a school in Umunya. "It was a horrific experience because we were standing nearby and could do nothing while these little children were burnt to ashes due to the level of heat that was coming from the fire," a witness was quoted as saying. The News Agency of Nigeria cited a witness as saying that a convoy of vehicles carrying politicians was passing-by the tanker when it happened. At least one of the destroyed vehicles was said to be a BMW car. Anambra State Governor Obi immediately mobilized the State Emergency Maintenance Agency (SEMA) to respond to the disaster, resulting in the rescue of five people who are being treated at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Hospital Nnewi. At least 6 other people were also being treated at various hospitals. More than 12 hours after the initial blast, firefighters were still battling the inferno while rescue crews were making efforts to recover the corpses. Media reports said a fuel tanker earlier exploded at the same place, but did not cause as many casualties as on Friday. The two people who were on board the tanker reportedly fled the scene. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message897485/pg1 |

Fifty-one U.S. troops died in Afghanistan in August, more than any other month since the U.S.-led invasion in October 2001. The rising casualty toll and the addition of 21,000 U.S. forces this year have heightened public scrutiny of what was once called the "forgotten war." Now Iraq holds that distinction, although nearly twice as many U.S. soldiers remain stationed there than in Afghanistan http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090915/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_us_afghanistan_analysis;_ylt=A0wNdNtcza9Kn2QATitg.3QA;_ylu=X3oDMTJ0aGxrYmtqBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMDkwOTE1L3VzX3VzX2FmZ2hhbmlzdGFuX2FuYWx5c2lzBGNwb3MDMgRwb3MDMgRzZWMDeW5fdG9wX3N0b3JpZXMEc2xrA2FuYWx5c2lzd2hpdA-- Hotshot, no nonesense commandos indeed. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message881069/pg1 |

Something about sauce, the Goose and the Gander. China May Resist Calls to Ease Bank Ownership Curbs (Update1) http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aQL_ZTCmEx04&refer=home China may resist calls by the U.S. government to relax restrictions on foreign ownership of its banks, a person familiar with the matter said. Chinese rules limit overseas ownership of local lenders to 25 percent, with a 20 percent ceiling for any individual foreign investor. The government may consider loosening the curbs in special cases, such as a bank being in distress, the person said, declining to be identified as deliberations are private. ABU DHABI, May 30 (Reuters) - Abu Dhabi's First Gulf Bank FGB.AD said on Wednesday it would ease restrictions on foreign investment in its stock by abolishing a ceiling on ownership by non-United Arab Emirates shareholders. The bank will also borrow more than $500 million by selling dollar-denominated bonds in the third quarter to finance lending, First Gulf Chief Executive Andre Sayegh told Reuters. Shareholders of Abu Dhabi's third-largest lender by market value agreed to scrap the 3 percent cap on ownership by any single foreign investor, Sayegh said. They retained a rule preventing total foreign ownership from exceeding 30 percent of the bank's stock, he said. http://www.reuters.com/article/bankingfinancial-SP/idUSL3054483220070530 Seems the civilised world does not take too kindly to foreign ownership of it's money supply creator. The operative word here is of course CIVILISED. Slavery is indeed sweet. |

The article specifically says "indicated interests in buying over the banks". This does not soind like an investment. It is more like a takeover. Full ownership. Trust you are aware of the differenece. |
