Foreign Affairs / US Seizes Iranian National News Website Presstv.com by illitracy: 8:52pm On Jun 22, 2021
See for yourself.

However the presstv.ir is online.

In what seems to be a coordinated action, a similar message has appeared on the websites of a series of Iranian and regional television networks that claims their domains have been “seized by the United States Government.”

The notice, which appeared late Tuesday on the website of English-language television news network Press TV as well as a number of other Iranian and regional news channels, cited US sanctions laws for the seizure and was accompanied by the seal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Commerce.

"The domain presstv.com has been seized by the United States Government in accordance with a seizure warrant...as part of a law enforcement action by the Bureau of Industry and Security, Office of Export Enforcement and Federal Bureau of Investigation," the message read.

The websites of Iran's Arabic-language Al Alam television news network, Yemen’s al-Masirah TV channel and Bahrain's Lualua television network were also among the targeted outlets.

The US government has not officially commented on the matter, but some reports said the websites might have been hacked.

Press TV has announced that its website will be available on .ir domain.

Over the past years, the United States has for several times taken similar measures against Iranian media outlets.

The US tech giant Google has recurrently taken on Press TV more than any other Iranian outlet given the expanse of its viewership and readership.

In March, Google for the seventh time blocked the English-language news network’s access to its official YouTube account without any prior notice, citing "violations of community guidelines."

The US-based social media giant Facebook also informed Press TV in the same month that its account had been shut down for what it claimed to be the Iranian news channel’s failure to “follow our Community Standards.” The page was reinstated a few days later.

The Tehran-based English-language news network has repeatedly fallen victim to censorship on multiple fronts, including Twitter and Instagram besides Google and its services.

Press TV’s website can also be accessed at the following alternate addres

How about the "LA Crypto trading"?

I was just against the fallacious notion that the use of VPN is only to bypass censorship.
Politics / Re: Twitter Ban: Despite Threatening Nigerians, Malami Uses VPN by illitracy: 7:34am On Jun 09, 2021
The term vpn (virtual private network) is not only used to bypass censorship, a vpns are also used to access remote networks or even cooperate infrastructure. The man may have some personal networks or remote pc he connects to via a personal vpn. having that vpn is not a must that he is using it to bypass censorship.
Foreign Affairs / Trump Praises Nigeria For Banning Twitter, Regrets Not Doing So Himself. by illitracy: 6:09am On Jun 09, 2021
Former US President Donald Trump belatedly congratulated Nigeria for banning Twitter in response to censorship of its president, and urged other countries to do so – while regretting not doing the same while in the White House.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President,” Trump said in a statement on Tuesday.

The government in Abuja announced last Friday that it would suspend Twitter’s operations in the country following the 12-hour lockout of President Muhammadu Buhari’s account. Buhari was censored for what Twitter said was “glorifying violence” and making threats – the same grounds Twitter used to censor Trump – and then the White House account – last year, during the riots in Minneapolis and Washington, DC.

Twitter eventually banned Trump entirely after the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, while he was still the sitting president. Other social media platforms followed suit. Not only is he currently banned from having an account himself, others interviewing him get censored for daring to broadcast his “voice.”

Trump’s aide Jason Miller chose to highlight the line about competitors emerging to tease a new social media platform, reportedly in the works by Trump himself. At the end of May, the former president shut down his 'Desk' blog that mimicked his Twitter feed but was likewise censored by Big Tech.

Trump also seemed to regret not having acted more forcefully against social media platforms while in office. “Perhaps I should have done it while I was President,” he noted in the statement. “But [Facebook CEO Mark] Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was. 2024?”

Trump’s executive order from May 2020, instructing the US government to hold social media platforms accountable for censorship in bad faith, was never enforced. Instead, the Justice Department and other regulators stood by while Twitter, Facebook and YouTube teamed up with activists to “fortify” the 2020 election against Trump and in favor of his Democrat challenger Joe Biden.

Zuckerberg personally donated $300 million to specific jurisdictions to support a massive mail-in voting infrastructure, and was praised by corporate media for “saving the election.

Or is he exempted from the freedom of expression.

Politics / Even With Vpn The Government Can Make It Difficult To Use Twitter. by illitracy: 10:04am On Jun 06, 2021
Some semi tech geeks are here claiming there is nothing the Nigerian government can do to enforce the twitter ban.
If I was tasked with enforcing the ban, doing it would be an infinitesimal. Of course users may access for a few times not long
before I detect Twitter traffic through pattern matching and block it It would also setup a team watching out for the most used vpn apps and blocking their connection patterns, open ports and whatever encryption method they use to connect. You may get connected but good luck accessing blacklisted sites.

When you say freedom of speech it must apply to everyone. How can a foreign tech company decides the rules of a country.
