Oh well, i guess we are truly the most divided people in the world Is there anything Nigerians actually aggree about? This "resentment" between NIN and NID is meaningless. People have to do what they have to do to survive. Both sides of the debates has it's pros and cons so one side is not necessarily better than the other, it is all a matter of where you find yourself and how things work out for you. Some people have been more "lucky" than others in this regard, whether they are based in Nigeria or abroad. If the situation back home was very favourable, i am sure a lot of "stuff packer" may What i know is that, based on my observations in my recent trips to Nigeria, Life is hard and a lot of folk won't mind getting out. Electricity is being "rationed" endlessly, no water and if coupled with no electricity is problems. Some of the roads are "death traps", people cant move around freely once it gets dark and so on. Government officials also live in these conditions and either chose to do nothing or minimise the impact all these issues have on themselves. For all those that really love Nigeria and would gladly die. Well done!! I also love love my country too, but not to the extent of dying. |

wendymanda: I forgot to add that basic amenities are missing in Nigeria. Most people dont even have running water or electricity without supplying themselves. . .something that should be the domain of the government. Of course, the government is busy pocketing the money so people are in darkness all the time. The same government officials who will then send thier kids to the best schools abroad . . with the nations money. and so on and so forth. |

Paw-Paw: Nigeria doesnt "owe" it's citizens anything. A nation merely reflects the "thinking" capacity or productivity of its people. Not a lot of contries are blessed with the amount of resources we have, but they can probably manage what we have better than ourselves. Nigeria, however, is a case of some people really working so hard but with nothing to show for it because the system doesnt encourage productivity. Lets be honest, the system is being ruined by corruption, therefore it is hard to differentiate those that make their money through sheer hardwork and those that "stole" their wealth. Some Nigerians have very poor work ethics and it is manifested sometimes over here as well. Some people dont seem to realise, that it is not only the government that is responsible for the wellbeing of the country, we the citizens are. The government workers, are the worst in this regard. I was in Nigeria recently and visited a government organisation, and saw a lot of so called government workers just time wasting on the job. This attitude is very prevalent. Maybe the government is not motivating them enough enough in terms of pay package. However, this mentality of not giving our best in most things we do, has led to the steady decline the country has witnessed in recent years. Yes, we should criticize our country constructively, even the so called developed countries do likewise. Why should Nigeria be different?. 1 Like |

Why is there a sense of "resentment" from some of the nigerians at home It is really unnecessary. A lot of nigerians in the diaspora are there for a lot of reasons and some of them actually contribute more to the lives of thier relatives at home than the government or society does. At least, if they pack "stuff", they get paid for it. No withholding of wages/salaries unduly. Nigerians dont normally pack "stuff" that is why some many parts of the country are very dirty. Still on the "stuff" debate, how many nigerians can use public toilets? When we start to realise a job is a job, weather as a cleaner or a doctor and at least give a level of respect to the likes of the former, then we will move forward at a faster rate. |

I am just seeing this thread. I can't believe laudate was included in that "list". Nairaland for you. Seems some folk tend to overreact when someone doesnt agree with thier point of view. Everyone should be entitled to thier own opinion and free to criticize as well. It seems nobody complains when there is a "consensus" or "group think" and only object when someone's opinion differs. Please everyone should take it easy. This is just a forum and i am supprised by some of the aggression exhibited here. Life is too short!!! |

Politics / Re: Why Are There So Many Homosexuals In The North? by Imani(f): 9:42pm On Aug 16, 2007 |
Paw-Paw: Did he ever admit on Nairaland that he is gay? Please be wary of false accusations and homophobia. @topic I believe there are homosexuals both in the North and South. Like someone mentioned earlier, most of the "gay" men are actually bisexual. Some of those in the south maybe bisexual but tend to stay unmarried. I think it is ironic that islam as a religion that has the strongest penalty for homosexuality, also has the high numbers of people who engage in homosexual activities. The current legal standing against homophobia is harsh and should be changed. Sexuality is a sensitive aspect of human nature and should be approached cautiously. Before the gay bashers attack me, i don't support gay activities but neither do i believe they should be persecuted. Two wrongs do not make a right!!! |

The Arsenal - Fulham game was quite frustrating as much of last season. Someone needs to remind the players to stick the ball in the back of the net from time to time. A win today papered over the cracks and a loss may have been better so we don't fool ourselves to believe we can challenge for the title with this current squad. In no long words, WE NEED MORE STRIKERS!!! [s]that doesnt mean we just expose ourselves in defence[/s] As for lehman, he has always been a timebomb waiting to explode. Lets hope he keeps the clangers for less important game. |

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Ok, That Is It! Where Are The Single Naija Men Of Quality Over 35? by Imani(f): 11:08pm On Aug 11, 2007 |
Some men are not emotionally ready to handle relationships. It doesnt matter what age they are and how big in size they are. Sometimes they are simply immature and don't know what they want. It is really sad. However, some guys just need an "angel" that will help them fly. That said, sometimes we ladies may need to work on ourselves a little more in what we condition ourselves to accept. Nothing is constant in life, and the only thing that is . .is change. I wish you luck in your quest for that special guy. Nigerian guys (the serious ones at least) are great, only if you meet the right one. |
