ImperialYoruba,

Well said.

I am sure you remember Mama Oye, the one in Iya Oye song mother of Yinka Rhodes by Ebenezer Obey. Apart from their Yoruba root, they also have roots in Ghana or Togo.

To your point. A song got my attention in a Cuban store once. It was a Yoruba dialect I could only make out a few words. Then in many Brazilian religious ceremonies, they sing in Yoruba.

If those ones can trace their Yoruba ORIKI through songs and religion, why not returned Africans?

It is nothing but inferiority complex. The type that banned vernacular in schools. Just like when we were growing up, some of our friends did not speak Yoruba and some spoke in funny accent like Chinedu.

I remember what Magistrate Gbajabiamila said in those days: these kids could neither speak English nor Yoruba. In short, inferiority complex is a devastating disease that eats into the new generation.

When a boy told them his name is Chukwu, he was told that was devil's name. He protested that Chukwu meant God. They baptized him as Godwin. Still remember my Things Fall Apart grin

ImperialYoruba,

You are absolutely right.

But remember most real Lagosians are as guilty. Even those with Yoruba names Anglicized their names (Tokunbo to Toks, Babatunde to Babs)

Vivour and Rhodes have Yoruba names but like many Africans and African American or British, pride themselves on English, Christian or Muslim reli
Look at the good part of this WakeUp call. It has sensitized and educated us.

Chinedu missed road, no be small O!

Identity alteration is part of methodology for changing consciousness and subdue the will.
Slave owners across the sea gave their slaves new names.

When Britain declared war against slavery many generations existed bearing new names, and barely had any link left in their ḿemory of their African beginning. For many of them, their tribal link was passed down as a pride of heritage. Those who had not lost their African names or the link back to their homeland were just one or two generations removed from Africa.

Rhodes-Vivor would have been one of those with lost memory of African name, and family roots, all he would know was he came from a Yoruba tribe.

Your point about name adaptation and voluntarily altering one's identity to fit in with a foreign ideology is a valid point, and I agree with you. What I said above is just a recount of the root reason a Rhodes-Vivor came about.

Also, we must give recognition to many returnees who rebelled against their foreign name-identity, and adopted new local names going forward.

I don't believe Rhodes-Vivor knew what their family name was pre-slavery, but I am convinced they were at liberty to also re-immerse fully into their Yoruba identity after settlement in Lagos, but chosed not to. Reason for that is not part of my business.

Politics / Re: Southwest States Should Bring Back Indigenous People To Our Markets by ImperialYoruba: 5:52am On Mar 16, 2023
searchng4love:
It is time to prioritize the well being of the Yoruba citizens.. and protect the economy of the indigenous Yoruba people. By creating viable environment for the Yoruba man and woman to trade effectively and not allow our markets to be taken over by foreigners who are non indigenous people to the southwest... Across divides Britain, Germany and the United States have programs to protect the economic rights of indigenous peoples.... Southwest States should immediately commence such protectionism in all our markets.

While we thank the SW governments for the DAWN Commission that birthed the Western Security Network aka Amotekun... It is time we take matters of our economic prosperity and development serious by having protectionism for our indigenous Yoruba people who must take possession of over 80% of our markets including shopping malls... This is very important and a standard global economic practice worldwide EU countries have these, South Africa countries have these, UK has these even within the different conglomerates that form the UK.

100 percent in love with this idea.

Omuruyi patience Lizzy is causing wahala on Facebook.

The funniest thing is that, since this Lagos tribalism is evolving, some people always want to deflect attention and make it an Igbo vs Yoruba thing.

I never knew this thing are being felt by others.

Read comments, pay attention on their names.

The good thing is that sane Yorubas are speaking out.

Anytime Yoruba speak against Ibo, Governor Akeredolu of Ondo usually speak up in defense of Ibo. This is because his wife is ibo.

Any Yoruba speaking for Ibo online is of the following three.

1. Romantically entangled with Ibo.
2. Has blood and gene from ibo, even if their name na Yoruba.
3. Is a ibo, registered as Yoruba online.

By the way, if you are wondering why Akeredolu stopped defending Ibo, it's because of Betty Anyanwu, his wife. She wanted to contest Senatorial position in Imo, her native land, but her people turned her down because she ia married to Yoruba.

You deliberately ignore merits to exalt tribalism and sectionalism. Anyway, you don't know any better and you are no different from Brushstrokes20.

For any person that want to fly GRV in our face as an original Lagosian, I ask what is the depth of his originality in Lagos?

His great grandfather was rescued at sea, or possibly freed from a foreign plantation and resettled in Sierra Leone. Among the freed persons that came from Sierra Leone to settle in Lagos in 1845 forward, Rhodes-Vivor was one of them. He met Ijebu, Oyo, Egba, Ekiti, Awori, Hausa, Tapa already living in Lagos.

Oshodi Tapa served Oba Eshinlokun and some of his sons. I am talking of late 1700s to mid 1800s. By the way, Eshinlokun's grandfather was an Ijesha man. Now we are talking of 1600s into 1700s.

Make una no let me pull out my diary of early Lagos o. Abi una don craze ni? grin

Tell GRV the real commonwealth is the one his great grandfather met on ground in Lagos, a pan-Yoruba community that existed as an elite society, and with representation from Okun, Offa, Iseyin, Oyo, Ijesha, Ife, Ondo, Owo, Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Egba, Ijebu, Awori, Popo. In extension were the Tapas, the Hausas.

God punish GRV and all una biafrans. We will declare war against terrorism and evacuate all Igbos from our land. You better sit straight and face your spare part income, or you return to that hell hole in Onitsha. Freaks!

Politics / Re: The Threats To The Obi Mandate From Within The LP, Ireti Kingibe And Others. by ImperialYoruba: 8:40pm On Mar 14, 2023
G5politico:
Since the controversial and tainted elections that held on the 25th of February, it has been a familiar but uneasy journey for Peter Obi. The Labour party presidential flag bearer and leading candidate till the election results were announced in the early hours of the morning while men slept. as reality has set in and the battle has begun there are many that were with him but are no longer on his side. Many of them have been able to achieve their selfish aims and ambitions. The fight which will most likely end at the highest court of the land has only begun as one will expect with INEC and the ruling party seemingly hand in gloves. it's a battle of the people versus the strongest forces imaginable.

Along the line we saw the LP get some seats in the National Assembly which is key to any political success. with a divergent approach we saw people who had no political background run on the platform of the Labour party and win. A great win for democracy. in this same stroke of Obi grace, we have had some of the usual suspects sneak in and join the party. They are everywhere you turn but have remained quiet as we battle to save a mandate and most likely the future of this nation, we call ours.
Ireti Kingibe is a strong member of the old guard, she has been in SDP, PDP, APC and has finally come to the Labour party. 20 years she continued to run for office while enjoying juciy government board appointments from her friends and cronies in power. she dines and wines with the top echelon of the APC, a place where untill a few months ago she use to call home. An ardent supporter of Sen Tinubu and president Buhari it is no suprise her recent antics have come in to play.

Mrs KIngibe who turns 70 soon has refused to support the fight to reclaim the mandate of the stolen election because of her victory at the polls over Sen Aduda of the PDP. She in her first acceptance speech ignored the party, its presidential candidate and refused to acknowledge
the irregularities with the electoral process. After backlash on twitter, she proceeded to put up another one 2 days later when she tried to cover her tracks .it is rather unfortunate that people like her are the first beneficiaries of the good and hard work of ordinary Nigerians and Mr. peter Obi.

As she heads to the election petition tribunal to defend her mandate, she is part of those trying to dissuade Mr. Obi from retrieving his mandate at the court. although we do not need her support to emerge victorious it is painful that she has only been participating in photo ops with Mr. Obi but does no press conference or attended anyone that is not about herself. This is not the kind of person we need to fulfil and actualize our dream of a better Nigeria. in the last 20 years she has not contributed anything meaningful to the people of Kwara, Borno or the FCT. Her husband who is still a major supporter of president "elect" Tinubu has paid numerous visits to him before and after the election.

people like this must be weeded out before the sabotage is complete and the gnashing of teeth and wearing of sack cloth when they eventually show their true side. For someone who is already attending meetings on which APC senator to support the aspirations of becoming senate president. in the upcoming elections, obidients be wise, let us not open the door to our enemies.

Yaaaawwwn! Feeling very sleepy here. Wake me when you get your mandate back. cheesy cheesy

Onyiridike:
Tinubu is yet to be sworn in as the president coupled with the fact that the case is still in court, yet his urchins are everywhere mocking the Igbo nation. Recently, they are writing gibberish everywhere on nairaland that SE will not get Senate presidency.

I cannot remember any true Igbo man asking for any position in the evil APC government.

According to Kamaran Ihsan Salih: "A country should be created and run by thinkers and intelligent people. It can't be run by a group of tribal and narrowed minds. When the thinker are not considered in critical and strategic positions, the nation will remain under the control of occupiers forever.”

Great thinkers and intelligent people are found in every tribe and religion in Nigeria. Unfortunately, we have continuously sacrificed our bests on the alter of nepotism and primordial sentiments.

Please, no true Igbo man will serve in Tinubu's regime. Share every position among yourselves.

Sincerely, we want Obi but I had my reservations:

1. Buhari has messed up the country so much and it will require a servant, selfless and prudent leader to start cleaning up his mess.

2. We need at least 10 years to get back to the path of progress.

3. Why should an Igbo man (Obi) be the one to pay the price?

4. Why should he suffer day & night to clean up Buhari's mess in a country where Igbos are hated so much?

5. It is good that Tinubu who brought Buhari to power was declared by INEC.

6. He should assemble his APC supporters and solve the problem.

If you are an APC/Jagaban supporter, go and get a position for yourself and start solving the problems.

Congratulations!!!!!

It is more than just Senate leader under President Tinubu, yanminri will not rule this country in next 150yrs.

Sanwo Olu le kan si is a done deal. That Mr Obi- packaged Chinedu who is very fluent in his Igbo language and pro-Ipob should get ready to contest against Soludo of Anambra in 2026. Mr Obi will fund his campapign in Anambra.

After reading all his hate tweets against the Yoruba, the Yoruba civil service of Lagos state will not even allow him into Alausa.

It is obvious that those who screened him and selected him to replace the original candidate of lp , Prof Awamaridi, are Igbo, his fellow Igbo who do not speak Yoruba. If they were Yoruba they would have personally felt disrespected by his inability to understand and speak Yoruba and his bigot tweets insulting the Yoruba.

The population of Lagos Colony was analysed into 'Yoruba' and 'Non-Yoruba' tribes:

1. Eko tribe had fallen from 57% in 1872 to 23.6% 20 years later.
2. Popo or Egun tribe was 15.85%,

3. Other Yoruba groups
Oyo - 11.6%
Ijebu - 11.01%
Awori - 9.26%
Egba - 6.05%
Ijesha - 4.32%
Egbado - 3.63%
Ekiti/Efon people - 1.76%

4. Non-Yoruba groups
Nupe/Tapa - 1.86%
Hausa - 1.86%
The Kru - 1.37%.

Please look well ipob and lp mob. Do you see any Igbo there? This is a part of Lagos those attempting to foist a Yoruba-hater Mr Chinedu on the Yoruba in Yorubaland do not know.
Even if he changes his name to Aromire, with those bile tweets against the Yoruba, he is and remains a Chinedu to the Yoruba. Hence the rallying of the Yoruba for Sanwo Olu across all the parties despite that Sanwo Olu is the best man for the job.

check my signature for free stuffs!

The people identified in that count had been residing in Lagos even long before colonials came in.

As we see on record, pre-Nigeria, there were no ibo on Yoruba soil. They live among us as a result of Nigeria. To put in a different context, Nigeria opened ibo eyes to urban town living, otherwise he would remain a forest dweller till today.

Their hatred and intolerance for each other on their soil is part of the factors they abandon that hell hole to seek refuge amongst people with love and compassion. The refugees enter our land and begin to question why in Lagos Ibadan man be commissioner, Ilorin man be Director, Kogi man be Chairman, Ekiti man be deputy Gov ? They hate us for loving each other, and they want to scatter that love and mirror the hatred of Iboland here on our soil. They started with religion and began questioning intention of muslim and raised suspicions and lack of trust in our christians. Next they will cement hatred between Lagos and Yoruba from other states.

When ibos in Anambra deny Ibos in Enugu from contesting election. When catholic diocese in one ibo state reject a bishop appointed from another ibo state. When people of Ebonyi reject an Ibo from Anambra from taking position as Vice Chancellor of a University on their soil, these are all fine.

Ibo is denied Lagos post, now its all of sudden ok for almajiri, as you call them, to be governor in iboland.
