Romance / Re: Why Does NYSC 'Kill' Relationships? by Inyeneobon: 3:44pm On Nov 26, 2006 |
if u don't have d mind of cheating u 'll not meet someone that will cheat u ok .BE PATIENT AND DON'T DO GIRA-GIRA OK Things do not always work out that way,you may or may not have any mind of doing anything bad yet bad things happen to you, including cheating. The world is just like that. Human beings will be human beings,no matter what we preach. 1.These days the Nigerian graduate after graduation already stays at home for some months before youth service, these months can be very boring and full of no excitement compared to the university life,so when the NYSC time comes, they want to enjoy it as much as possible, after all after the NYSC they might go back to the same boring life. 2.Most graduates go to NYSC with unfulfilled dreams, ladies who has been good and chaste and even born again with the hope of getting married before final year, yet after graduation still not married, men who have been hoping to see a decent babe to hook on to ,yet graduating without that dream fulfilled, these sort of people get the temptation to have a change of heart so that the NYSC opportunity does not pass them by,after all they can easily see how other not so good friends of theirs already have husbands before graduation. 3. NYSC is like a camping event, all over the world if you read the news or are involved in going on camps or such things u will agree that people tend to feel more free to yield to temptation and do exciting things during such trips. NYSC is like that. 4.A lot of us would do bad things if we knew no one will ever find out,at least for once to satisfy our curiosity,or so we think, only to find out aftre trying it once that we cannot stop, what stops us is the shame and ridicule we may face from the society if known. But at NYSC u know you are miles away from those who would know what u are doing. So the temptation is always there. 5.The married ladies and the good people who would normaly not get involved do SEE these things happen, and still have to LIVE with it for the time they are in camp. Whereas outside they still see it happen, but just walk away and whatever they may have felt goes away, but here they have to see it happen frequently, hence they have to pass the temptation MORE TIMES than if they where not to see it happening round all the time.In such case they have to pass the temptation MANY times, this is never easy, especially when it becomes apparent that the need to pass the temptation is really only based on moral reasons only, not the fear of being found out or ridiculed. We even think that we do good things for moral reasons, but another real reason is because we do not want the ridicule of those who love us and those we love. When that factor is removed,u can then see that moral reasons alone may not be enough to resist the temptation. 6.Another reason is that of finance, most people as soon as they have graduated do not get ANY form of financial help from the same parents or gurdian that used to give them regular money before. They have to be on their own,and this becomes serious issues to worry about for them, especially considering that after the service they may not see work to do for many years yet they need finance to cater for thier lives.Where that will come from has to do with what they can get involved in while in youth service, and for most women if sex could be had with their poor partners for fun then it could as well be had with others for fun plus money. U may or may not agree with the reasons above depending on which one may have affected you or how poor or comfortable u are while at youth service. There are many other factors which time do not aloow listing. For those who can stay good for NYSC ,it is good, but so long as all above reason abound,NYSC infidelity will always abound.NO MATTER WHAT. 3 Likes |
Education / Between American And British Elite Universities by Inyeneobon: 4:25pm On Sep 23, 2006 |
I read the following from MSN,and hope it helps some people out there who might want to compare British schools with American ones,I think the greatest advantage of british schools is that they do courses 3 years while american schools do courses 4 years, hence the british system even though expensice per year,is cheaper than american schools in the long run b/c by the time you stay in America for 4 years it becomes more expensive than Britain for 3 years, and you lose one year which you would have worked to earn money had it been you were in UK. What do you think out there? Who needs Harvard or Yale? U.S. students are discovering the advantages of elite British universities. And they're saving a bundle. If you're into prestige as well as a top-notch education, Oxford is right up there with Harvard. Yet consider this: An incoming freshman at Harvard College is looking at an estimated $185,800 for tuition and room and board over the next four years. The same student can earn a degree at Oxford in just three years for about $112,000 -- and that includes all school expenses, plus travel to and from the States. The Oxford deal was too good to pass up for Christopher Schuller, a 20-year-old Nashville native who is starting his third year there with a double major in law and German law. "Even with overseas fees and the high exchange rate, Oxford is still cheaper," says Schuller, who found a similar cost advantage in the British school over his top stateside pick, the University of Chicago. Who needs the Ivies, or any other elite U.S. college, when your kid can hop across the Atlantic for an excellent educational adventure? Besides lower costs, prestigious British universities offer the excitement of living abroad. Plus, they have less stringent entry requirements than Ivy League schools. For example, the University of St. Andrews, Scotland's top-ranked university, expects applicants to have SAT scores of around 1,300, compared with 1,500 for most Ivies. The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) doesn't even use the SAT, instead requiring four advanced placement (AP) tests with scores of 4 or 5. More U.S. students are noticing such advantages. According to Britain's Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), 2,201 U.S. high school students applied to full-time undergrad programs at British universities last year, a fourfold increase since 1996. Some 948 were accepted. "Students get the chance to engage with a different culture while getting a top-of-the-line academic experience," says Marsha Little, director of college counseling at the Lovett School, a prep school in Atlanta. Competitive edge A degree from a top British university can also offer that extra edge in an increasingly competitive and global job market. Alex Dresner, a 20-year-old sophomore at the LSE from Washington, D.C., believes the experience he's gained while studying overseas helped him land an internship at a communications consulting firm this summer. Shaun Harris, adviser at the LSE career service, thinks the school's pedigree plays well with employers. "We have a pretty good reputation with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, as well as the White House and the Pentagon," he says. The British approach to higher education may not appeal to everyone. Unlike the broad liberal arts curriculum offered by U.S. schools, British universities require students to specialize from their freshman year. For example, a biology major would take only classes related to the degree, and it would be difficult to branch out. Switching majors, in effect, is starting over. A different world The chance to specialize at such an early stage can be a bonus in many professions. When Schuller finishes his degree at Oxford, he will be able to qualify to take the New York State Bar exam upon completing a U.S. law refresher course. That will save him tens of thousands of dollars on the cost of law school, plus he'll have the opportunity to earn money during the three years he would have been in school. Even though Britain and the U.S. share a language, Americans studying in Britain have to adjust to a different culture, a task harder than it might seem. Class hours, for example, are kept to a minimum, typically less than 10 per week, with students splitting their time between small seminars and larger lectures. Independent study is the name of the game; there is typically no set homework, and students must motivate themselves rather than rely on professors. More from BusinessWeek and MSN Money Much cheaper: Britain's elite universities The dorm room of your dreams College costs: Then, now and to come Most expensive dorm rooms in the U.S. How to manage college costs Most schools start in late September or early October, and run over two or three semesters until mid-June. "American students struggle in the first term with the different type of learning," says Tao Tao Chang, head of Cambridge's international office, who adds that most go on to thrive at the university. Social life also differs from U.S. schools. With no fraternities, sororities, or large-scale college sports, extracurricular life revolves around student unions: campus-based organizations that run everything from school elections to parties and help students with academic and personal problems. Societies, or student clubs, also play a part. There's usually something for everyone, ranging from sports and charity organizations to drama and political groups. How to apply The application process will be foreign to U.S. students. They apply through UCAS, not directly to the schools. (The one exception is St. Andrews, which offers a special form similar to those for U.S. colleges.) Early in the fall the application becomes available online, and includes a personal statement and one teacher reference. You can apply to six universities in total for a flat fee of $30. The deadline for Oxford and Cambridge is Oct. 15 because both require an in-person interview. For any other school, the deadline is June 30, with most sending out acceptance letters by mid-August. British schools have little scholarship money available, so most U.S. students must pay their own way. Those in need of aid can apply to Sallie Mae International for student loans, just as if they were going to a U.S. school. When it comes to bang for your buck, going abroad for college can be a smart idea. But will a degree from a British university help American students when they go home? For Zahra Nawaz, a 23-year-old LSE graduate from Alexandria, Va., it definitely has. After returning to the U.S. in 2004, she was accepted into a master's program in security studies at Georgetown University and began working part-time at the Homeland Security Institute, a think tank of the U.S. Homeland Security Dept., in Washington. Nawaz has some advice for any student thinking about taking the British path to college. "Be open, consider everything, and don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone," she says. "In the end, the different cultural experience you'll get is an education in itself." |

It is good to bear in mind thatmost American unis do masters 2 years and degree 4 years while in UK it is one year masters and 3 years degree in most courses ie if you are doing full time. So in the UK u save yourself one year compared to America, and that one one year could make a lot of difference if you wanted to earn money. People say UK is expensive and that is true, but it becomes cheaper by the time you stay in America for 2 years. Example u can spend 5 million naira in one year in the UK for everything from tuition to accommodation to food and clothing and transport. In the USA u can do that foir 3.5 to 4 million per year, but mulitply that by two years and you get at least 7 million which is actually more expensive than the UK's 5 million. It depends on the course, but the UK is cheaper in the long run and the quality are basically the same b/w USA and UK,even though the UK is more conservative and therefore tends to be more disciplined than the USA. lIKE SOME OTHER GUYS MENTIONED,working in UK is so easy. That is just the truth. |

Probably it is not right to judge these governors like we do.Different governors are faced with difference challenges and it might not be very good comparing them. There has been airport in Calabar for a long time, most of the beautiful roads there has been there b4 Duke, the stadium has been there and most things, but in Akwa Ibom attah has to start a long of things brand new. Also we should not just be happy with the development we see,we should also be interested in the amount of debt a governor is creating for the next governor just to IMPRESS and be known as the one who did things. Tinapa is very good, but the state government's own funding is being done on LOAN,and it is a lot. Attah has collected loan, but repaid them and so far he has not created any loan in the name of DEVELOPMENT for another governor to come and suffer,in cross river same cannot be said of Duke. I think Attah is doing excellently well in Akwa Ibom state. As for being corrupt,we must know that the American government asked EFCC to investigate Attah and the EFCC has found NOTHING against him. That report was released this week. Even Attah himself brought the EFCC to investigate him when some SAN lawyer accused him of contract inflation. |
