The comments I'm reading here are amazing. It seems beacuse of tribalism and religious bigotry some people no longer think very well. Instead of addressing the issues raised in the press release, some guys have resorted to name calling.

Does it mean if someone is caught red handed committing murder the person is not entitled to fair hearing.

I weep for my country.

The only solution is for Nigeria to disintegrate peacefully

It's amazing how the South South that produces Nigeria's common wealth is being tossed around. I wish the South South and the South East can work together to end this calamity called Nigeria.
Trust me without the oil & gas in the South, there will be no Nigeria.

Education / US Records 80% Increase In Student Enrolment – Report by Ipeche: 2:39am On Nov 15, 2022
The 2022 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange has said new international student enrolment in the United States has increased by 80 per cent.

The Open Doors Report made available to The PUNCH stated that the report indicated that there was a 12.3 per cent increase in the number of students from Nigeria studying in the United States for the 2021/2022 academic year.

Open Doors 2022 which was released on Monday by the Institute of International Education and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, highlighted the continued competitiveness of the U.S. higher education sector as a destination of choice for international students.

It read, ‘‘The 2022 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, released today, finds that new international student enrollment in the United States has rebounded and increased by 80 per cent, raising the total number of international students enrolled in U.S. institutions by four percent. This strong rebound and growth confirm that the United States remains the destination of choice in higher education, with over 948,000 international students.

‘‘International students are returning to in-person studies in the United States, with 90 per cent of all enrolled students attending in-person classes. The return to campuses allows international students to build life-long connections with American peers, increase collaboration within and across fields of study, and grow America’s international partnerships to address current and global challenges.

‘‘The new Open Doors Report indicates there was a 12.3 percent increase in the number of students from Nigeria studying in the United States for the 2021/2022 academic year. This represents a total of 14,438 Nigerian students, which is 33 percent of all African students studying in the United States. This means that Nigeria remains the leading source of students from Africa and the 10th largest country worldwide sending international students to the United States.’’

Politics / ASUU, Kanu, Bawa, Buhari And Respect For The Court by Ipeche: 2:30am On Nov 15, 2022
Justice is represented with the symbol of a blindfolded lady bearing a set of balancing scales. She is not supposed to see those she judges so that she will not be swayed by emotion. Whoever does not weigh well on the scales is punished. That is what the justice system in a democracy is supposed to be. It should not vary according to who is involved.

However, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), continued to show that his idea of justice is a lady with only one eye covered. Therefore, Buhari’s lady justice dispenses justice depending on who is involved. Some incidents in recent weeks have proved this again.

For seven months, the Academic Staff Union of Universities was on strike because of a breakdown in discussion between the union and the Federal Government. Having used all the possible means to get the university lecturers to call off their strike without success, the Federal Government approached the National Industrial Court to order ASUU to call off its strike. On September 21, the court ordered ASUU to call off its strike and resume teaching while discussing its issues with the Federal Government.

Immediately the interlocutory injunction was issued, officials of the Federal Government began to preach to ASUU about respect for the law. ASUU said it would appeal the order. And it did appeal. The argument of the agents of the Buhari regime was that once a court issues an order, it has to be obeyed first. Not even an appeal can make one not to obey the order. Only a ruling by a court of law with the requisite jurisdiction can upturn such a judgement.

Other Nigerians who love the rule of law advised ASUU to obey the court ruling so as not to lose the moral high ground. There is an argument made about the decision of a court of law. It is said that if a judge comes into the courtroom apparently drunk, staggering and reeking of alcohol, but makes a ruling on a case, that ruling stands and should be obeyed. It is not for anybody to decide not to obey the order because there is evidence that the judge made the pronouncement under the influence of alcohol. Even the President of the country has no legal right to take such a step. That will amount to taking the law into his own hands. The only legal way to set aside that ruling is to appeal it by approaching a higher court of law. It is left for the judge to review the case and determine if the ruling of the lower court was wrong.

Following that court ruling, ASUU heeded the advice and the lecturers returned to the classrooms. The country heaved a sigh of relief.

On October 13, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja discharged and acquitted the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, of terrorism charges. The court ruled that the Buhari administration breached Nigerian and international laws by the way it abducted Kanu from Kenya and brought him to Nigeria in 2021. The music from the Buhari regime changed. The argument and spin began. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami(SAN), came up with the argument that the court only discharged Kanu but did not acquit him. The short and long of it was that the Buhari regime refused to release Kanu in contrast to the same way it advised ASUU to obey the court ruling first and appeal later. Kanu remained in detention while the Federal Government sought a court order to approve that Kanu be kept in detention

It should be remembered that on two occasions, a group of South-East elders visited Buhari and appealed to him to release Kanu so as to use it as a means to calm the nerves of the people of the South-East region. Buhari made it clear to them that he was a democrat who would not like to intervene in the work of the judiciary, another arm of government. He said the judiciary should be allowed to decide the matter. Ironically, when the judiciary eventually decided on the matter, Buhari did not keep his word. He found another excuse. He kept Kanu in detention while seeking an order from another court to endorse his continued detention. On October 28, the Court of Appeal (Abuja division) granted an application for the stay of execution of the judgement of the Court of Appeal pending the determination of the appeal filed before the Supreme Court by the Federal Government.

What is obvious, as many of us had predicted last year, is that Buhari will most likely keep Kanu in detention, no matter what any court of law rules, until he leaves office in May 2023. He may decide to release him some days before his exit from office. He may also decide to leave it to his successor to choose what to do with Kanu.

Coincidentally, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Nigeria’s first Commissioner for Aviation – the equivalent of today’s minister – who led the delegation that visited Buhari to appeal for Kanu’s release, died on November 1, at the age of 93. He was so infirm that he sat in a chair in the group photograph Buhari took with the group after the visit. Amaechi had told Buhari inter alia: “I don’t want to leave this planet without peace returning to my country. I believe in one big, united Nigeria, a force in Africa. Mr President, I want you to be remembered as a person who saw Nigeria burning, and you quenched the fire.”

Last week, another legal matter played out. An Abuja High Court ordered that the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Abdurasheed Bawa, be sent to prison for contempt of court. Different groups and individuals urged the Inspector General of Police to execute the order. The police high command said it was not aware of the order. Buhari was quiet about it.

Bawa said he would appeal the ruling. He promptly did. But he continued to stay in his home, doing his work while he waited for the court to give a ruling. On Friday, a court vacated the contempt proceeding that led to the conviction and committal of Bawa to prison.

When a court sentences regular Nigerians to jail, they are sent to jail straightaway. From there they can appeal to have their sentence quashed. But when a court sentences ‘first-class citizens’ like Bawa to jail, they stay in their homes and get another court to quash the sentence. When the President of a country has the power to decide which court ruling to obey and which not to obey, democracy is suspended.

Democracy can be frustrating at times. People can watch someone who is known to have committed a crime freed by the court based on some technicalities or inability to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. It is also not impossible to induce judges to give favourable judgements. However, that should not be a reason to use undemocratic means to prosecute a case.

Despite all the promises he made when he was seeking the people’s vote before 2015, Buhari has found it hard to fully shirk off his military past. It is sad that with about six months to the end of his eight years in office, that same challenge has remained.

The danger in creating double standards on legal issues is that the leader passes the message that the law should not be respected. The people believe that they cannot get justice through the law courts. They, therefore, decide to take the law into their own hands. Violence increases in society. Everybody loses.

No amount of packaging will work in 2023. All those supporting APC and PDP have something to benefit either directly or indirectly. We were told to vote out PDP in 2015 but today what we are hearing is that we should continue to vote for the worst party in the history of Nigeria.

Let's not be deceived by agents of darkness.

See this political Bishop who can't make simple investigation and find what actually happened.
The issue of snake swallowing money happened under PDP adminsitration and investigated by NASS committee under this adminsitration. I wonder when most people will understand that most corrupt practices are orchestrated by Civil Servants who have been there since military adminsitration not politicians. All the alleged money said to have been swallowed or eaten by snake or monkey was carried out by Civil Servants. The AGF is also a civil servant and many other cases. If this is the case, the Bishop should descend his energy on pulpit and keep reminding his congregations who on weekly basis pay tithes with some part of that loot to fear God and eschew misappropriation of public funds other than politicizing what he is ignorant of!

How about the over N100 billion allegedly stollen by the accountant general, did it aslo happen under the PDP? See, we cannot continue like this. Who does not know that this government is the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria? Abacha's government is a joke compared to this givernment. It beats me to think there are people still supporting Atiku and Tinubu. These two guys will never include fighting corruption in their manifesto. It's like we are not ready for a better Nigeria if people like these are shying away from the main issue.

God will help us think rationally.
Politics / Can Some States Survive Without Oil Money From The Niger Delta? by Ipeche: 1:16am On Oct 05, 2022
When the price of oil falls in the international market, the Non-Performing Loans of Nigerian banks skyrocket. Since over 50% of the revenue earned by the Nigerian Government is from oil, can Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Ebonyi and Niger states survive without oil money?

How many companies in Nigeria can survive without oil money?

I am interested in this debate.

The purpose of the meeting was not made available to press men as of the time of filing this report, but sources believed it is not unconnected to the 2023 presidential election. recall, Vanguard reported that APC announced the kick-off of its Presidential campaign on October 10 shortly after the arrival of its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. Running a company like running a nation is a serious business. The choice we have before us is to choose between light or darkness. No amount of packaging will deter Nigerians from voting wisely in 2023.

All those supporting corrupt politicians have something to benefit. For those that do not know any corrupt politicians to benefit from, need to use their PVCs and vote credible candidates. Some people packaged someone in 2015, look at where we are today.

In 2023, we will open the package and vote for the content instead.

Politics / Are We Not Tired? by Ipeche: 12:46am On Oct 05, 2022
Recently, I was at the Hamad International Airport in Qatar. This airport is adjudged as the best airport in the world in 2022 by SKYTRAX. Also, SKYTRAX named Qatar Airways as the number one airline in the world. This airline is wholly owned by the Qatari Government.

So, why is the case of Nigeria different? Why have our public companies and institutions failed over the years? The simple answer is corruption. 90% of the problems we have in Nigeria is corruption.

Nigerians are well educated and are doing fantastic in their chosen fields globally. To a large extent, Nigerians obey the laws of their host countries overseas.

But for curruption, we would have had good schools, good hospitals, good roads, improved standard of living, a disciplined society, etc.

Like Qatar, the Nigerian government would have used our common wealth to develop our dear nation. It's so shamefull where we are today compared to even some countries in Africa.

I want to lend my voice to the 2023 elections debate. The good news is, we have choices to make. These choices will either make or mar our future and the future of our children.

Except there's a contrary view, as stated earlier, 90% of Nigeria's problems is corruption. Who amongts the three presidential candidates can fight corruption to a standstill. Remember, corruption cannot fight corruption. Who doesn't know that the reason we don't have stable electricity today is due to corruption?

If I own a company, I would never employ a theif or a dishonest person.

Please let's question the source of wealth of our presidential hopefulls and their track records before casting our votes.

I also like good things. I want Nigeria to be like Qatar, Dubai, New York, London, etc.

All I want is a better standard of living. I know who I will be voting for. I am a northerner, I have not benefitted from this current government. Anyone, irrespective of his ethnicity or religion, who can give me the quality of life I envisage is the person I will vote for.

I don't think there's a perfect human being anywhere, but I think, Peter Obi, can fight corruption and provide the quality of life my family and I deserve. Please vote wisely in 2023.

Politics / Total Revenue Earned By FGN Between 1999 - 2021 by Ipeche: 6:49am On Sep 11, 2022
Nigeria has earned over US$1.1 trillion in the last 23 years, is there anything to show for it? by anything I mean, infrastructure – schools, roads, hospitals, electricity, clean water, etc., an efficient justice system; effective military and paramilitary most importantly the Nigeria Police; cohesion amongst Nigerians, peace, food on the table of Nigerians, good schools, etc.

Goodluck Jonathan and Mohammadu Buhari must have earned the highest revenue during their presidency, what did they do or what have they done with the money?

Things were relatively better between 2007 and 2015. Not sure what to make of Nigeria today despite earning over US$300 billion in revenue in the last 7 years.

Let’s think wisely and vote wisely in 2023. Let’s elect the right leaders.

Politics / Important Issues About Nigeria And Nigerians by Ipeche: 5:57am On Sep 11, 2022
1. Between Obi, Atiku and Tinubu, who will make a better President? Nigeria’s inflation is sent to increase to over 20%, Naira exchange rate to the Dollar is over 700, employment is at an all-time high – over 33%, Nigeria is poverty capital of the world yet there are politicians still buying properties abroad when some Nigerian cannot one decent meal in a day. Who can fix Nigeria’s problems post May 29, 2023?

2. The CEOs of oil & gas companies cannot brag that they are richer than a state in Nigeria. It is highly unlikely that the CEO of Mobile Nigeria for instance will earn up to NGN240 million per annum, i.e. NGN20 million per month and NGN2.4 billion in 10 years. How can an individual who has earned NGN4.8 billion in 20 years for example be richer than a state?

3. It is on record that US dollars were spent to procure Presidential Primary Tickets for Tinubu and Atiku. Since Atiku left office in 2007, does he own a business that can fetch him US dollars to bribe delegates? Bribing of delates has happened at least twice for Atiku - 2018 in Port Harcourt and 2022 in Abuja, where did he get the dollars from?

4. If Ogun and Amadioha were to strive people that lie, can any Nigeria in good conscience raise his/her hand in defence of Atiku and Tinubu that they did not steal public funds while in office?

5. Peter Obi is not a Saint, but I think he is a lesser of two evil amongst the other two. Character and Competence is what we need now in leadership recruitment in Nigeria.

6. Please is there anyone that thinks Lagos would have been what it is today without oil & gas money from the Niger Delta? Let's break it down, when oil prices are down, the Non-Performing Loans of Banks skyrocket. What this means is that oil earnings is synonymous to Nigeria's economic prosperity.

7. If oil revenue stops today no state in Nigeria will survive economically. When President Obasanjo stopped Local Government allocation to Lagos, the state survived it because of oil money. All companies headquartered in Lagos continued to pay PAYE and VAT. Ninety percent (90%) of companies in Nigeria will not survive without Niger Delta oil money.

8. The Federal Capital Territory of a nation is a “no man’s land”, Lagos state has this status till today.

9. If Tinubu is good at identifying talents, why did he get it wrong with Buhari? Tinubu did not support Ambode in 2019, let’s assume he also made a mistake with Amode. That’s “two-for-two”. Tinubu has made a mistake with two leaders he selected out of four (4), how are we sure he’s not making a mistake with himself? Fifty percent (50%) error margin is significant for Nigerians to gamble with.

10. People were attacking Paul Okoye online because he Twitted that – “Abeg I wan ask one question ohh ? If you know you have plans to fix Nigeria … abeg how come you no teach buhari”. Some people argued that perhaps Buhari did not take Tinubu’s advice. Let’s assume this happened in 2015, why did Tinubu support Buhari again in 2019?

11. My first time in Lagos was in 2004, trust me, Ikeja has not recorded up to 10% change in the last 15 years. Lagos is the most indebted states in Nigeria. What has Lagos done with the loans and its internally generated IGR? Who does not know that politicians steal our common wealth? Modern slavery is when you support your oppressor or someone stealing from you.

12. Would the north ever support a Southern Christian succeeding another Southern Christian at the presidential level?

13. APC asked Nigerians to vote out PDP in 2015 but today they are telling us that APC is different from APC.

14. All those supporting Atiku and Tinubu, have something to benefit directed when either of them gets elected. Those of us that do not have anyone in high places, shine your eyes at least for the sake of your children and posterity.

15. Coming from the North, that region has benefited more from Southern presidents. In Buhari’s government, only his friends and cronies are benefiting from his government. Ninety-eight (98%) of Northerners have not benefitted anything good from Buhari’s government. There’s no guarantee in leadership with dishonest and thieving tendencies. Let’s try something new and fresh.

16. Most Northern minorities have been and are being marginalized. Only a section of the North benefit from Northern presidency. How many minorities are in Buhari’s government?

17. If we get it wrong in 2023, that’s the end for Nigeria. We now have a difficulty choice to make. Atiku and Tinubu have nothing new to offer. If we elect the wrong leaders we will all suffer together.

18. All the people supporting colonialization must have some complex. How can a woman praise her rapist because he paid her as a form of restitution when he’s caught? Those attacking Uju Anya must have issues. The woman is still grieving, please allow her to grieve the best way she can.

19. We are religious, we can kill for religion but, we are the most morally bankrupt in the world. We must reduce correction to the barest minimum and must entrench equity and justice in all we do to make Nigeria a prosperous country.

20. I will plead to Nigerians to vote on election day and vote wisely too. We can make Nigeria a pride of Africa and a pride of the world. I also want to be respected internationally. We deserve better.

Many thanks for the responses to my previous post. Please which TLS centre has the least traffic? I want to apply for a UK Visa and I am looking for dates in July.

Also, do I need to stamp my bank statements or I can just download the statements via internet banking platform and submit?

Thanks.

I am about applying for a renewal UK Visit Visa. I was refused a German Visa in 2019. When I applied for a UK Visit Visa in 2020 I decleared this refusal. My question is, since I was granted a UK Visit Visa in 2020, do I need to declare the German Visa refusal each time I apply for a renewal UK Visa?
