keally: I don't how your post addresses some of the points I raised. Did the states government acrue several months of salary in debt at the tail end of GEJ tenure? YES Did Buhari come to the rescue of the states? YES. GEJ was too pre-occupied with his re-election to be bothered. Did GEJ leave a huge pile of outstanding subsidy payment unsettled until handover. YES Did the FG pay the outstanding debt on subsidy dated back to 2014 financial year? YES Did crude oil sell for >$100p/b for the greater part of GEJ's tenure? YES Is oil selling for about $40p/b now? YES If the so call dullard could pull up these rescues in spite of the falling revenue; I would be happy to have the bubu govern for another 7years. |

knostbrown01: The bulk of payment included arrears amassed by GEJ since 2014. Putting this in the right perspective, it's simply yet another case of Buhari cleaning up GEJ mess after salary debt crisis. Honestly, if it's taking a Buhari, who sold oil at $40p/b to offset a debt acrued by a GEJ, who sold the same oil at over $100(for over 4years); it's really a shame on GEJ 1 Like |

And imagine what the 60 billion naira could have done if well appropriated. Anyone still thinks Dasuki is being witchhunted for his role in the 1984 coup? I am quite sure GEJ himself shivers anytime he reads of the billions stollen under his watch. If only he could go back in time, am sure he would have done most things differently. 1 Like |

nollywoodbabe: It's so funny that she is crying for her husband's release in respect of her pregnancy. And to imagine that some innocent but naïve ones lost their precious lives on the same cause. Unfortunately, I don't see any scenario how Kanu would escape a very extensive jail term; atleast, not with Buhari still in power. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

hush15: Nice points. It would be nice if he toned down his publicity stunt anyway. It's of little significance showing us a "Bruce on an Okada"; a picture of him making the donation would have sufficed. It's no different from a Fayose showing us a picture of himself as a fish-cutter. |

hush15: You are talking of cash flow towards the end of an election year. Haba, think am now. The out-gone government obviously dipped their hands too deeply into our treasury to fund their failed re-election, leaving the country utterly broke. Remember, the FG had to quickly organize bail out funds for several states before they could pay common salary. Mind you, the debts were amassed during Jonathan's tenure, an evidence of poor management of our funds during the oil boom (>$100 per barrel) That being said, I opine that cash flow would greatly improve in the new year when the new budget is implemented. Hopefully, there would be less mismanagement. |

hush15: 1. He didn't have to show us his means of transportation to his constituents. Yesterday, it was a rickety boat; today, an Okada; tomorrow, may be via trekking. I call it showmanship, which I dislike as most show men end up not doing so much. 2. His little fund could have been better invested in "little" capital projects (portable water, etc) that addresses collective need of a community as against handing little fry of fishes to minute needy. I based this on my opinion that social benefits and welfare packages are good deeds and luxury that our leaders (all strata of governance) can't afford at the moment. For instance, I do not subscribe to the whole nonsense of "paying 5million needy #5000" at the cost of #1.3 trillion Naira per annum when our infrastructure are non-existence and are need aggressive collective investments at all levels. Same goes for our industries. If we make the right investment now, the needy among us would be rightly catered for tomorrow through jobs created by our investments. 3. If you know your onions and your bills are well researched, getting support comes easy. Unfortunately, many of our law makers are too lazy for such. For instance, Ben Bruce hails from a region where the FG has paid very little attention to environmental degradation in spite of it being the current "cash cow" of this nation. I would like to see a Bruce remind the senate on the environment clean up bill Buhari recently revisited. Buhari's instruction was made 4 months ago and I bet nothing has been done on that. In own opinion, Mr Bruce has a 2019 presidential ambition and he is trying too hard to position himself at the expense of getting nagging issues addressed. My take is, -- if Ben Bruce genuinely works hard, he would be needing less of showmanship against 2019. |

He is trying too hard to impress. I would rather he focused on his law making function, as well as attracts life changing capital projects to his constituency. 4 Likes |

He is currently under house arrest after spending one year of his original five-year sentence in jail. Pistorius will have to return to court to be re-sentenced, for murder. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-34993002 |
Politics / MTN Sees $5.2bn Nigerian Fine Reduced By A Third by irondome: 1:40pm On Dec 03, 2015 |
Africa's largest mobile operator, MTN, has succeeded in its bid to reduce a $5.2bn £3.4bn) fine imposed by Nigerian authorities for failing to cut off unregistered users. Nigeria wants mobile phone companies to verify the identity of their customers. The government says it is concerned unregistered Sim cards are being used by criminal gangs. The South African company has been in talks with authorities since October when the original fine was imposed. It said on Thursday it had succeeded in reducing the fine by a third. The original fine amounted to double MTN's annual profits last year. Since it was imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), MTN has made a number of senior managerial changes, which included the resignation of the chief executive of its Nigerian unit, Sifiso Dabengwa. "After further engagements with the Nigerian authorities, the NCC has reduced the imposed fine," MTN said in a statement. It added the fine was now $3.4bn. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-34992892 |
