Just curious, what is wrong with getting schools with good funding from Nairaland? I would argue exploring all 16 parts of this thread either for interview transcript or finding good schools is also a form of research and due diligence.

TWoods:

"Guidance" being the operative word. Most people asking for names of schools, amount of funding etc., are not looking for guidance, they are simply too lazy to do their own research so they come here, hoping to just crib off someone else. If you were here for guidance, you don't need name of school, the process is more than enough. What did folks do before Nairaland existed?

If you are studying at a master level, then it will expected that you can program well in at least 1 language and you have some basic knowledge of Data structure and algorithm. If not, I'll advise you take some intro classes before your program start so you don't struggle in class.

We absolutely do. Unfortunately, our current leaders doesn't see a value in it. In fact, a bill to introduce electric vehicle by 2035 was rejected by the senate solely because we an oil producing country and our economy is largely dependent on oil. https://businessday.ng/technology/article/senate-rejects-bill-to-introduce-electric-cars-in-2035/

TWoods:

Is there a reason Nigeria doesn't need electric vehicles and the expertise that comes with it?
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by ishow(m): 3:13am On Apr 15, 2021
Great interview and congratulations! I'll argue the US Economy needs people like you than you even realized. The growth of Electric Vehicle couple with the fact that every first world country is trying to reduce their carbon emission footprint makes your research area very important.

Maxidom:
My visa was approved on Tuesday in Lagos. My VO was a white guy. Please eat something before you go for your interview because you will be standing for a long while.

Profile:
Fall admission
Tulane University
Full funding
PhD Chemical Engineering

Here is my transcript:

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning
VO: Pass me your passport as it is packed for you.
Me: Ok sir
VO: So, where are you going in the US?
Me: I'm going for my PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Tulane University.
VO: What University again?
Me: Repeats it.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No
VO: Do you have Kids?
Me: No
VO: What specialization in Chemical Engineering
ME: Renewable energy
VO: What University did you do your undergraduate studies?
Me: I told him.
VO: Why are you going for a PhD in this school?
Me: My research interest has always been in renewable energy source and storage and I was able to find great professors who are currently carrying out research in the development of new materials for Renewable energy more than other universities that I applied to and got admitted to. I was also offered a full tuition waiver and a graduate teaching assistantship role that offers a stipend that covers my living cost. The student to professor ratio is very nice for a highly ranked research University so I get to interact with my professors more and get more guidance for my research.

VO: What will you be researching on?
Me: I will be researching on new materials for batteries in Renewable Energy systems so as to be able to expand the durability and depth in discharge of renewable energy storage devices while ensuring a smooth integration of this stored renewable energy to the power grid for the use of populace.

VO: I can see that you have a full scholarship here
Me- Yes, I do.

V.O:- Okay. I will be approving your visa. I will hold on your passport and you will pick it up with this in a few days time. He hands me a white paper.
Me: Thank you.
VO: You are welcome.
Me: What am I to do with this white paper again?
VO: it is for you to pickup your passport at your pre determined location. We will send you a mail when it is ready. It should be ready in a few days time.
Me: Thank you.

He didn't ask me for any documents.

Are appointment dates still available for Lagos? I can't see any at the moment and I'm wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this.

Hello, house I know this does not look like the right time to ask this question but just for enlightenment I would.

My question is if someone arrives one of the US international airports probably as a student on an F1 Visa and does have up to the minimum BTA Fee (money to be held at the Airport) which is $1,000 and he holds less could he be turn away or he might not even be asked about it at the first place. I am asking this here because I believe I have read from people on here who have been in the US hence the reason for my question.

At US port of entry, nobody asks how much you carry with you. You do have to declare your cash if you are carrying above a threshold say $10k I believe. I had less than 1k with me when I came to the US the first time. Be careful of Nigerian immigration officials at Nigeran airport though. I've heard cases when they demand you show them your travel allowance if they found out you are travelling for the first time all to get you to settle them.

I want to use this opportunity to inspire prospective US graduate students. Please also apply to big and expensive schools. They have more funding. I got a an award of almost $24k a year in George Washington University. Whn I started the journey with GW I had no tuition just accomodation in that area. But I prayed hard for a miracle and it came in form of this award. Nigerians shy away from the school because we feel it's too expensive, but they really have good funding opportunities so it's a good try. Just want to Inspire others to try Thier luck. I have learnt a lot from this thread Thank You and best wishes.

Hi joeluv,

I'm also a prospective applicant to GWU for fall 2017. Can we please connect on whatsapp: 08053401948.
