Career / Seeking Honest Advice: Salary Concerns, Career Management And Transition by isinite4me: 10:29pm On Jun 26, 2023
Hello friends,
I would greatly appreciate your honest advice regarding a situation I'm about to share with you all.
I have been working as an IT Support Specialist for this company for the past 6 years. During this time, my salary has only been increased twice, and both instances were companywide raises rather than individual salary increases based on performance.

When I initially joined the company, there were two of us hired for the position, but my colleague left shortly after and I have been solely responsible for supporting the company's IT operations ever since. I have diligently fulfilled my job responsibilities to the best of my abilities and have consistently exceeded the company's expectations. The owner of the company frequently praises my hard work in the presence of staff members, and others and even send multiple personal messages to encourage my efforts with a promise to reward immensely.

Despite the constant commendation and promises to reward my efforts, the owner has never specified what exactly he intends to do for me. I have requested a salary increase on three separate occasions, and the most recent response I received stated that the company no longer grants individual salary increases, opting instead for companywide raises. I am dissatisfied with this decision because not everyone's performance within the company is the same. Therefore, relying solely on companywide raises feels unfair to me. Among the team leads, I am the top performer in the company, yet there are others who receive higher salaries than I do. While my salary is not the lowest, it is also not at a satisfactory level.

Whenever I express my frustration about this situation, a friend suggests that I should leave the job and seek better opportunities elsewhere. However, I am hesitant because I have been applying for selected jobs for a while now without any offers. As a family man, I am afraid to leave my current job without having another position lined up.

With my current salary, I am struggling to meet our needs, which is why I am seriously considering leaving the job and finding a new one. However, since I have not received any offers from the positions I have applied to, I am afraid of what my situation will be if I leave my current job without a backup plan. In Nigeria, it is notoriously difficult to find employment.

I have 12 years of experience in IT Support role and counting and hold multiple qualifications. I am currently studying cloud computing and cybersecurity and have obtained certifications in Azure AZ and SC fundamentals, SOC, Web Pentest and many other certs and training. I have also attended training programs in project management. I have dedicated a significant amount of time to learning and improving my skills, as I plan to transition into cybersecurity, which would provide opportunities for remote job roles. However, this journey has not been easy, and despite my qualifications and experience, I have not been able to secure a well-paying job yet even in my current area of expertise.

The demands of my current job, combined with the lack of adequate compensation, are taking a toll on me mentally. I genuinely desire to leave my current job, but I am apprehensive about the potential difficulties my family and I may face without a stable income. Therefore, I am seeking your honest advice on what steps I should take.

To provide more context for your advice, I would like to share some additional information.
Currently, my take-home salary is #194,000, with a service charge ranging from #20,000 to #25,000, which can sometimes be lower depending on revenue generation.
I am responsible for a family of five, including myself, my wife, and three children. We reside in a 3-bedroom accommodation for which I pay #600,000. Our location is in Abuja. I had a two-bedroom flat under my ownership, but unfortunately, it was demolished due to a lack of proper documentation (did not have paper because it was Gbagyi land). Currently, my wife is not employed, and the business I had set up for her has been closed down.

I apologize for the lengthy message, but I wanted to provide as much information as possible to help inform your advice.

I look forward to your constructive advice and recommendation. God bless!

Is that engine price or what sir?. And can catalyst really cause big damage to car if not fix? Mine shows same code (bank 1 & 2) Camry 05 V6 and the price to replace the two is not here.

First car syndrome
cheesy

After I spent almost 350k fixing every problem that doesn't affect performance on a 2007 camry se back then. Kazeem's build aso rock ontop my head grin
Nobody tell me before I reset myself to factory settings.

Melting dashboard,I didn't want leather on top,I had to order for a fresh new one from ladipo N150k.

Small noise from front left suspension, apo kazeem made me change all 4 shocks and linkage and some bushing, the kazeem installed a 2004 camry shocks for my 07 camry se without my knowledge and kept all my follow come shocks which he sold to a customer aftergrin.

After shocks where installed, car come get k-leg for all 4 tyres grin I did wheel balancing tire to solve that issue, yet no solution.

Small engine vibration, all mounts changed because I want car to dey idle like mew lol.

Ac cooling no reach me,I changed compressor grin

Now I no get time for ebamisofun,if e no affect performance, biko I no get money to waste grin

My brother, this is not my first car neither second for that matter.

Secondly I just like my car to be in good condition whenever I can. Currently my car is in very good condition, however when I took the car to @kingreign to scan, he pointed out those concerns and I took them.

In fact let me shock u guys abt my experience after I took the car to my mechanic to tell him the recommendation I had. He immediately call one panel-beater to check my catalyst, lo and behold that strong wired that they normally used in tying things if there no bolt is what we found in the middle catalyst, many of them where stored there. Everyone was shocked and tell me that this could have block overtime and cost serious damage to the engine.

I dodge a bullet there and I Thank God. I have not change the cat yet but I been advised on what to do and I hv done it. The car sound is much better now.

He said the catalyst require replacement for smooth sound, healthy engine and low fuel consumption. Camry 2005.

The fuel consumption is not a big deal for me, cause I drove 4cyl before and my current fuel consumption with the v6 is almost the same, I can't even tell the diff.

What is pressing about the catalyst? What car is it?

Contact Kingreign... You are in good hands

Yes, just came back from visiting him in his workshop. Man checked my car and identify both my catalyst and camshaft sensor require replacement asap. The most pressing one is thatcatalyst and is very expensive. Need to start budgeting now.

If anyone here know where I can get a good catalyst with best price. Pls kindly let me know. Again I stay in Abj.

Thanks for everyone who recommended him for me.

Nice car you got there.
Honestly, I don't know where that "Big for Nothing" sentence was originated from.
This car is really superb and reliable.

Pamper it and it will definitely sserve you well.
I have no regrets buying man, especially tthe fact that I got a V6. Super fast and quiet engine.

Congrats on your ride.

Thanks man.

I always don't like it when I hear people calling the car "Big 4 Nothing" I mean why?

Yes, I will do my best to maintain the car oo.

Very very quiet engine sound u say. Love it when my car is steaming and u won't even hear it only the fan i.e. if you're close to it.
The car dey move and all u did do is have the mine to drive. The V6 model of this car is way too lovely.

Thank u my guy for sharing ur experience and what u have done with this car. I myself is also a owner of this same car Camry V6 SE.
People always talk-down on V6 car, but I thank God that I bought this car. BTW it was my friend that hook me up with it.

Car is very fast and quite, fuel consumption is very economy, honestly I can't tell the different with 4 cylinder. Cause I spent same amount of fuel for a week drive of previous car (4 cyn). plus the comfort and everything. It worth it 110%. This is personal experience oo, although toyota fuel economy is very good, plus my car is still in top condition. Other brand of v6 may consume more or different.

Personally I don't like tampering with electrical system of my car because I don't like cut and join things of which most of our electricians do here, hence I let everything remain at factory. But I plan to do some changes like changing of stereo to dvd or android, dashboard light to white instead of orange (very important, don't like the orange), the rim is bit expensive sha, however mine came with 17-rim plus anti theft system and I like the current rim.

People admired my car all the times, other than say the car by itself is very clean, I also wash it myself with car wash. Will like to get another better type of car wash sha since u mentioned it. I def never ever used detergent to wash my car. I always try my best to keep my car in a very top condition always, I checks everything to ensure they are in good working conditions and don't manage things. I change them if need to be change. Do my servicing with specified oil when due, use coolant as well.

I have few things to do with the car sha as mentioned earlier but i will start with tinted permit first.

Honestly I love this car. Parts are fairly cheap like corolla. If u want a car that is very effective and u won't break a bank to fix it, go for this one. I tell u, u won't regret it. In fact this particular model is better than 4 cylinder engine. Someone told me about issues related to 4cyn after long use which this one does not have. So that is a plus.

I have learnt a lot from ur post and will like for us to connect in order to share experience going forward.

Here is my Big Daddy pics, enjoy it. Thanks for reading.
