I was interviewed on tue 2nd Feb, 6.30am appointment, the vo that interviewed me was very friendly, her smile sef gave me courage. I got to know of this thread after I had booked an appointment and was scheduled four days ahead. so I had a lot of issues with my application, I don't know those things are big deals, but I determined I was not going to let it hold me down, I would push through, I have God, a burning desire and a little fear that motivated me to prepare more.....i read so many transcripts and I just got four days to prepare. ps: the fact I did not write toefl does not mean I wouldn't have written it if I know it assists in the application. I was ignorant of the fact. pps: also the fact I chose one school too, was because of my ignorance, I don't know it matters ppps: the fact that I scaled through by grace does not mean you would too, please do the adequate preparations before applying for a school. pppps: I would not have posted it, but because I sincerely want to help people yet to get an interview, it was people's transcript that I read that assisted me so much, so please don't take this as show off or a means to intimidate people, it is solely for learning... enof noise making......here is that awkward but interesting conversation, I thank everyone who has assisted me directly or indirectly, and may God bless the person that created this thread... Me: Good morning Vo: Good morning Where are you going to study? Me: Tiffin university Ohio Vo: What degree Me: Bsc computer information systems majoring in software development (she checks my I20 and saw that it was an ESL course that was written there) Vo: so, you would take an English language course before your degree course? Me: Yes ma!! Vo: when did you finish high school? Me: 2009 Vo: what have you been doing since then? Me: I went to pursue a bachelors degree in chemistry, graduated 2015 and took the compulsory service. Vo: oh, I see, why the switch to computer information system? Me: I did computer as a minor while I was in my final year in the university and since then I developed interests in computer, I went ahead to study some courses on my own, I learnt touch typing and can type more than 30wpm at the moment and the more I engage in it, the more it excites me and I want to learn more (I thought if I am asked I will say; I began to feel am learning because with computer I am actually improving my skills compared to chemistry where I was doing it for higher grades, but I forgot) Vo: what will the course do for you Me: There are a lot of problems with Nigeria so I would use it to solve the Nigerian problem Vo: wow!! You want to solve nigeria's problem with computer? Me: yes Ma, I can use it improve our medical centres, we don't have adequate database so I would want to use the fingerprints to be able to collect patients informations and uploaded across healthcare centres so that they may be identified during accidents and they may be given better medical attentions. Vo: you want to use computer to solve medicine?, what will the program do for you. Me: (I still never understand the question, I just dey talk my rubbish dey go) also, we have satellite in space since 2003 and we have about 5 of them and we still have problems with our Internet, TV cables because people can't write necessary softwares to harness the technology Vo: that's another(she dey tease me) you want to solve satellite problem, she asks again, what will the program do for you... Me: (my brain quickly gather and reset, I have been talking about Nigeria and not my self, benefit of listening) ohh, I could become a database analyst, software engineer, Web developer, the opportunities are endless and the lagos state government is into capacity building for youths and recruiting young programmers to train people on coding, #codelagos Vo: how many schools did you apply to? Me: just one, I did not see a reason to choose another. Vo: (she looked at me with raised eyebrow) why tiffin? Me: when I was researching about the school, the first thing I saw captivated me, it was a statement like, your past has been version 1.0, upgrade your life with a degree in CIS, am not quoting verbatim ma, but that statement resonated with me and excited me, also, when I checked the courses I would be offering, I am very moved I will be learning software development, operating systems and programming, also when I checked the profile of our major instructor, prof. George Miller (thank God, the name was easy to remember) I saw he had been into manufacturing for 28 years before coming into education, that's a lot of knowledge and experience I will be getting to my carrier, and moreover, he has spent years on tax returns, an experience I can learn from to solve the tax problem with lagos state, because most people evade tax in lagos, and the government will appreciate solutions to this problem Vo: you want to solve tax too? Me: (we laughed together) the opportunities are massive ma Vo: what is the duration of your course Me: 121 hours, since I would be taking 15hrs per semester, I would be spending 8 semesters. Vo: did you write any test? Me: No ma, since the school require I take an ESL course, the teofl will not be necessary. Vo: so you want to pay extra money for ESL, why? Me: well I told my dad, and he said no worries, he can afford it since no knowledge is wasted Vo: (she repeats) no knowledge is wasted Me: (I quickly collect am for her mouth) yes ma, I will be having an avenue to improve my English and adapt with the American accent. Vo: let me see ur dad's statement (I gave her) what does he do Me: he does construction and real estate. Vo: what is his name (I answered) why are there so many transactions on it Me: he does contracts and help companies for expansion of their branches, I don't really know the nitty-gritty of his job....(she nods) (then she was typing continuously and looking at my SOA, as if verifying something or inputing some details) Then she looks up....'you are qualified for this visa at the moment' circled something and gave me the white paper. I was just dere stammering, yes yes ma, thank you you for helping me fulfil my dreams....it was God anyway, it has always been God. 26 Likes 3 Shares |
