Habeeb ran as fast as his legs could carry him, falling down in the process but which seemed to have little or no effects on him. He kept running, screaming on top of his voice.

Kamoru slapped himself at the back of his neck to kill the mosquito that just bit him. He still didn’t understand while those students were leaving in such a haste, he knew they were arguing, some were even crying but they all spoke English, a language he didn’t Understand.


Just 6 weeks ago, his uncle had come to the village and brought him to Ibadan, he had never gone to school nor attain any formal education. All he knew was farming and fishing. For 2 weeks, his uncle had taught him how to drive the big bus and he was able to perfectly drive it in 5 days. Since the trip to the camp site wasn’t so far, his uncle had suggested he drove the students, though this wasn’t his first time of taking people on a trip.


He had enjoyed watching the students, they all had something in their palms that they constantly pressed with their thumbs and spoke into. Some of them even had something that they cover their ears with and would be shaking their head and dancing. They all spoke and shout every time, they shout “Awwwww” when they are happy, they shout “Ahhhhhh” when they are angry.


But when they started shouting this night and spoke their language, he knew something was wrong but he didn’t know what it was. He had been instructed to get the bus closer and that’s what he’ll do.


He got to the bus, brought the key from his pocket and as he tried inserting it into the lock, it fell off his hand, unto to the ground .


He cursed under his breath, he had no lights, though the moon shone above the sky. He bent down and began searching for the keys. In a flash, someone dashed quickly behind him, he stood up immediately but saw no one, he waited a few seconds to confirm no one was there so he bent down again.


Luckily, he found the keys this time, unlock the bus and got inside. The wind was cold and chilly, he shook his head, let out a deep breath and started the engine, it cranked and clicked, coughed out smokes and went off again.


Kamoru looked around, he hasn’t been driving for long but he knew the battery couldn’t have gone down that fast. He tried again but this time, it started, he revved on the accelerator excitedly but when he tried to move, the car tires seemed stucked on something. Someone knocked on the bus, he had no idea which direction it came from nor who it was


Kamoru: Ta ni yen ke? (Who is it??)


Silence…. he stretched himself up, looked around but saw nothing.


As he turned around the steering wheel, he heard it again, this time, it wasn’t a knock but a bang, one which sent him jumping out of his seat in fear, he was sweating now, his hands fidgeting. He decided it was time to leave so with a doubled effort and speed, he sat down, changed the gear, this time wanting to reverse the bus.


The front tire rolled, but only on a spot. Only one thing left to do; he has to go down and check which direction he needs to steer the bus, so he won’t keep digging a bigger hole around the tires.


He took a deep breath, slowly opened the door, peeped around and got down, practically tip-toeing, he moved to the front of the bus, bent down and examined the tires.


He had left the door open so fear ran cold on him when he had the door shut itself. He tried to turn around but slipped and fell on the cold grass.


In a flash, he saw the bus revearsed itself to a distance. It stopped and the headlamps came on, almost burning his retina. Impulse sets in and he screamed as loud as he possibly could.


Kamoru: Egbami oooooo! (Help me!!)


In that instance, the bus jerked forward with full speed. Kamoru tried standing up and running but a twig held him down, the grasses wrapping around his legs so tight, resisting his movements.


All he could do was whimp in fear and prepare for impact. He felt the excruciating pain of the bus on his feet, then the knee ,to the hip… the last thing he remembered was his ribs crushing in, as all went dark.

Back at the camp, they all waited, running out of patience. Halimat opened her mouth to protest and that’s when they saw the lights of the bus, it honked and packed, signaling they should come closer.

The National leadership and the entire members of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have received with rude shock and disbelief the report of yet another religious hatred motivated gruesome murder of a dedicated 42 year old Christian mother of seven children, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, who on Saturday 9th July, 2016, was brutally killed while doing Christian evangelism.
Mrs. Eunice Elisha was murdered in Kubwa area of Abuja, FCT, in the early hours of the day. Her neck was slashed and she was also stabbed in the stomach. About a month ago in Kano, Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme, a 74 year old Christian was murdered at Wambai market due to an altercation with a Muslim man who came to the front of her shop to perform ablution. Her offence was that she objected to the Islamic washing rite in front of her shop.

Just last week a clergyman of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Reverend Zakariya was killed by attackers suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen in Obi LGA of Nasarawa state. They attacked him on his farm, cut off his arms and legs, then they chopped his head with a machete. Another fresh but sad news reaching us is that of the Fulani herdsmen militia that is back on rampage killing 81 people in multiple attacks in Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue state in central Nigeria.

In recent times, there have been multiple cases of attacks by Fulani herdsmen on various Christian communities, all over the nation. In the South East and in the South South zones, there have been gruesome attacks on IPOB members and on Christian communities in the Niger Delta. All these are in addition to the relentless attacks of Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen in the Middle Belt and southern Borno.

The Christian Association of Nigeria commiserates with the families affected by these mindless orgies of death and destruction as well as with the entire Christian community in Nigeria. We pray that God in His mercy shall comfort and strengthen the families of all the Nigerians affected in these unwarranted murders unleashed upon the nation by religious extremists.
The recurring decimal of violence and murder of innocent Nigerian citizens on the basis of religious intolerance demands specific and relevant response from all concerned citizens in the country more so when the government in power seems to have adopted an attitude of lukewarm response to the evils being perpetrated in Nigeria in the name of religion.
The discrimination against non-Muslims in Nigeria under the Buhari Administration is assuming a dangerous dimension that should not be left to the vagaries of time and circumstance to resolve.

You will agree with me that with these happenings and the lukewarm attitude by the authorities concern toward putting an end to it, Nigeria is dancing a macabre dance of death, both for the nation and for its citizens. It is time to stop the beat and let common sense guide the nation out of the present quagmire. A stitch in time saves nine.

Before the situation escalates into an unmanageable national crisis, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is calling on the authorities both at the states and federal to do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice if the confidence of Christians on this government must be maintained.

The unprovoked attacks on Christians and the authority’s inaction is becoming unbearable and may not be tolerated anymore, inasmuch as we will continue to call on Christians to remain tolerant and law abiding, it is becoming inevitable to also call on them to buckle up and be ready to defend themselves against these incessant unprovoked and mindless attacks.

On Tuesday, July 5, a man in his 30s was seen at Duport Road Market along the main motor road in Monrovia, Liberia, crying profusely and screaming "My penis, my penis" as blood poured from his trouser. It was discovered that the man’s penis was completely slashed by an unknown person.

According to a Liberian site, multiple eyewitnesses saw him running towards the motor road and ran onto a moving taxi in excruciating pains and with tears, shouting, "My penis, my penis,", attracting attention from a surging crowd of onlookers.

"The man came with heavy running and bumped into the taxi. I heard him saying let car kill me one time,” an 18-year old Prince Railey, one of the onlookers, told the INSIGHT.

Another eyewitness, James Mulbah , narrated that the man could not explain what had happened to him or what he did for his penis to be slashed. Eyewitness Mulbah added that he was just saying "It is hard to talk."

"The man fell right before the taxi, we were shocked. Later on, we discovered that too much blood was leaking from his trouser, and when he opened his trouser, we saw that his penis was cut. When we asked him to explain what happened to him, all he could say was: “It is hard to talk my people" . He left crying in severe pains until an ambulance came and took him away"

The victim was reportedly taken to the state-owned John F. Kennedy medical center in Sinkor, a suburb of Monrovia for treatment. Residents of Duport Road and its surrounding communities who trooped to the scene of the incident upon hearing the news that spread in all directions like a bush fire could not give the identity of the victim.

When the Insight went to the nearby drainage yesterday, the piece of the cut penis was seen there. It is not clear why the ambulance that took the victim to the hospital did not remove the piece of penis from the drainage. There were different opinions among the terrified eyewitnesses as to what really may have led to the man’s penis be cutoff.

"For me, this man must be a thief. Probably, he had gone to steal from someone and he was caught in the process and the person treated him in such a ghastly manner,” old man Jackson Perry, said.

Another eyewitness, Foday Subah, said: "the man might have been caught in a “jolly-jolly sexual safari” with somebody’s woman. That could be the reason why such an evil thing was done to him. It is just hard to determine the actual cause of the incident, as the victim himself did not say anything."

Others believed that the man might have tried to rape somebody or he might have tricked a woman who may have revenged against him in such a cruel manner.
