Travel / Nigerians In Johannesburg And Harare : Hangouts! by JerryAdams: 3:53am On Jan 30, 2012
I'll be visiting Johannesburg and Harere in the month of February. I would be delighted if Nigerians in any of these cities could direct me to popular/favourite nightlife scenes (nightclubs), Nigerian restaurant and hangouts. I have an already planned itinerary but only need to incorporate the 'Naija feel' to complete what should be a swirl vacation. Please I need your response ASAP!
Travel / Re: Moving From South Africa To Europe! by JerryAdams: 2:49am On Jul 25, 2011
You'll need a valid visa to enter Ireland except you're a South African citizen with South African passport or with passport from the following African countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, and Swaziland. Pls note that even if you're a spouse of any of the countries above and have just their resident permit without their passport, you will need to apply for a visa b4 can travel to Ireland.

I know ur asking 4 nice restaurant around North/Central London but I strongly recomend d Brazilian Restuarant- 'Rodizio Rico' @ d O2. Trust me if ur willing 2 go d distance u certainly will not be disappointed , + u'll come back and thank me. The price is very moderate, u have a selection of a buffet menu that cater for all kinds of dietry needs and a variety of different kinds of fresh hot/warm MEAT will continously be brought 2 ur table until u say stop or can't eat no more - it's practically eat till u drop! They have fine and rare selections of wine/spirit/Alcohol beverage 2 sooth any kind of occasion + live music give d ambiance a bit of a je nais se quoi. U'll need call 2 make resevation b4 d date and ur guests will not be disappoited with their service.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Usa With My Anti-retroviral Drugs by JerryAdams: 8:34am On Jan 22, 2011
I do know of a close friend with a similar condition as yours (except they've been living healthy with the condition for about 11yrs now) and they'd frequent the US quite often and has never had any problem. One thing you must understand is that Anti-retroviral drugs are not off the counter medication and as such are prescribed by your GP whom would have labelled your medication cover pack with your name and dosage directions, therefore making it OK to travel with.
I remember during the early years when my friend first found out about their status, 'they' were a bit apprehensive and anxious like you are now as to wether they would be turned back at the port of entry if immigration/customs search and find their meds in their luggage. Because they were intending to stay in the US for 4mths, my friend was particularly concerned as to the large quantity of the retroviral drugs which they had to carry (and was to sustain them for the duration of their stay in America), I remember my friend repacking/rearranging all of their tablets into one of these plastic Meds containers with 'days of the week' - i.e Monday, Tueday, Wednesday etc and 'periods for the day' - ie 'Morning, Aftrenoon, Evening' inscribed on them. They kept the Meds in their checked in luggage and kept the prescription cert from their GP in their carry-on bag (just incase) along with the dosage they needed on d flight and for the next couple days after their arrival. Anyway to cut the story short, they've been in and out of the US and has never been pulled over because of their Meds.
Further more it is true that President Obama (with the approval of the Congress) has lifted the initial travel restrictions for intending migrant with HIV into the US.

PS. Make sure when you're travelling to carry along a certified prescription from your GP to proof you're not carrying them for commercial purpose .

The question as to whether he is gay or not has nothing to do with his profession or talent. Some traits are dead giveaway, deny all you want but one can never deceive his/her self.

You mean one can book a hotel 4 two weeks without paying any money over there?

Usually when u make a booking via d net or phone, a reservation is confirmed for u using ur credit card details as a guarantee but it's never charged until u check-in/check-out of d hotel. With most of d well known site like 'expedia.com', hotels.com, booking.com etc where one can purchase or make hotel bookings, if u make a cancellation up to 24hrs b4 ur arrival date u (ur credit card) will not be charged but if u cancel on d day of ur proposed arrival u'll be charged only for 1day , so instead of charging for example d whole of 2wks or whatever number of days u've booked with them, they can only charge u for 1 day.

You are really a good man, so tell me, with BTA of $2000 i will be fine?

Yes that's just perfect n it's enough 4 a 2wk stay. However if u do decide 2 go solo (without a tour agent) on ur trip do endeavour 2 book a very basic accommodation from where u are (or from outside of Israel if someone's doing a booking 4 u). Let me warn u, DO NOT , I repeat DO NOT attempt 2 ask a friend inside Israel 2 make a reservation 4 u , cos in a worst case scenario Israeli border control officer will trace d origin of ur accommodation reservation, then u'll be left sorry n trying 2 explain 2 d officer how u'd initially declared that u don't know anyone in Israel yet someone managed 2 carryout a booking 4 u. So my advise 2 u is 2 book a very (cheap) basic accommodation 4 d period of ur proposed stay in Israel via internet. Then once ur cleared by immigration call d customer service n cancel ur booking immediately , u'll only be charged/loose 1 day from d total cost of ur accommodation (better safe than sorry)!

JerryAdams, thanks once again, if i may ask, what are the likely questions asked by the lmmigration officer at the port of entry? Again do you advice to travel as a pilgrimage or do i book 4 a hotel ? There are lots of travel agents here that are organizing tours to lsrael, do i apply with them? What do you advice that will be the best for me making sure that i have no problems at the port of entry?

Whether u decide 2 travel on a pilgrimage tour (group tour , which could be d best provided it's a reputable tour agent/company with a long good standing with Israel i.e been in d business of organising tours/pilgrimage 2 Israel without any bad record) or embarking on a personal vacation make sure u have d following:

1. Confirmed hotel reservation or an address in Israel covering ur stay (Note if u opt 4 d later this could arouse suspicion and u'll ve 2 explain ur relationship with d person which could most likely be verified with d person separately and any discrepancies in both ur responces could be catastrophic, and this could attract also a spotlight in2 ur host immigration history which would be checked , if d person is an illegal it would mean bye-bye Ben Gurion and welcome Murtala Mohammed not just 4 u but 4 d person as well).

2. Enough cash (BTA) which would sustain u irrespective of where u'd stay e.g if ur intending 2 stay 4 lets say 2 weeks make sure u have an average of about $50 a day 2 spend , u might be asked 2 show proof of ur finances.

3. Plzzzzz don't go carrying with u all ur property especially if 4 example u're telling d immigration officer ur staying 4 only 2wks. I advise u not 2 carry with u a diary/address book filled with names n phone contacts (it attract suspicion that u may not be returning), so save all contacts in2 ur e-mail draft/file b4 travelling. Do not attempt 2 hide anything inside ur shoe/underwear or write on d inside of ur belt.

4. Do not go carrying ur credentials/Certs/CV or any kind of documentations (including bundles of photos of love ones, 1 of ur wife/children in ur wallet is enough) u don't require 4 a holiday. Do not carry any Id/bank cards with a different name/date of birth from what's on ur passport.

5. Make sure ur travel passport ve not been stamped with 'a denied entry' in2 another country, or 'overstayed stamp' in any country. Make sure also that u have never used that passport in2 any Islamic country .

6. Listen attentively 2 questions ur asked n take ur time b4 answering , u could be asked d same question in 5 different ways/time just 2 source u out just make sure ur answers remain d same. If u don't understand anything ask them 2 explain further/repeat what they say. Do not panic even if ur called aside after all d questioning n then referred 2 another snr security agent who might ask u same questions , just remain calm but, ask why ur treated like that/being delayed n express ur disappointment but be very subtle. Hold ur own when talking 2 any immigration officer , it's OK 2 be pleasant but don't be too nice or a 'yes Sir/Ma' kind of guy as if ur begging 2 be allowed in2 their country. Always let them know ur there 2 spend money in their economy and their citizens in ur county are treated with utmost respect therefore u demand d same.

7. Try n get a travel insurance covering ur trip , it would go 2 show that should u require a medical emergency, u wouldn't be needing their govt's help

8. Most importantly, u should be able 2 demonstrate 2 d clearance officer that u have strong ties back in ur home country that would make u want 2 leave after ur holiday e.g Family (wife n kids), work (it would be no harm telling people ur working with ur going on a say 2wks holiday and carry with u letter from work stating ur on ur vacation). Make sure if they decide 2 phone whether ur wife or employer d answer they would be giving them is d same u'd have also supplied.

9. Research and be able 2 tell them places/site of interest u'll hope 2 visit.

Pls be also aware that u may not even be asked a single question n be allowed in. The above is an extensive list just in case of a worst case scenario.

JerryAdames, thanks a lot men, this is very interesting, just want to know if is safe to travel with a Nigerian Passport cus the passport that i am using here in SA need no Visa to Israel, also want to know how much do you think that an illegal alien from Africa can make in a month? ls there any kind of unskilled jobs over there? Thanks so much!!!!

Sorry 4 d delay in replying 2 ur questions. Anyway yes it's safe 2 use ur Nigerian passport provided u've a valid Israeli visa and able 2 satisfy d immigration officer @ d port of entry (remember Nigerians are mostly seen as suspects within d wider international community and therefore are treated as guilty until proven innocent), so make sure u leave no room 4 doubt b4 u embark on ur trip. However if u have a SA, Swaziland, Lesotho or Malawi passport (all visa free) it's less stressful and perhaps wiser. As regards how much money u might earn in a month all depends on d kind of job, expenses and ur life style , Tel-Aviv is funfilled n one can get easily carried away/loose focus (might end up unable 2 save) but if u take my advise n go straight 2 Eilat , base on working in 2 different hotels or working a 16hrs shift in 1 hotel u could after tax n accommodation expenses take home an average b/w $2000-$2800. Trust me u'll be fine, everyone is given on d job training, u don't need any experience and any prior qualification , all that is required is ur willingness and attitude 2 work.

I've provided proof with a link to the US Department web site (above on my previous post) stating that results for DV2010 will not be out until May and July of this year (2009), even if you are from a different planet, with a time zone of a month ahead of everyone else, you will still have to wait for the proposed date and time set by the US DV Lottery. I therefore stand to be corrected and challenge you to to vindicate yourself by providing proof.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered on an annual basis by the Department of State and conducted under the terms of Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The program provides a maximum of up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DV) each fiscal year to be made available to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

The annual DV program makes permanent residence visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. A computer-generated random lottery drawing chooses selectees for diversity visas.

After the individuals have been selected at random from among all qualified entries through the State Department E-DV lottery computer program, they will NOT be notified by email. Those selected will be notified only by letter through the mail between May and July 2009 at the addresses listed on their E-DV entry. Only the randomly selected individuals will be notified. Persons not selected will NOT receive any notification. U.S. embassies and consulates will NOT be able to provide a list of those selected to continue the visa process.

@ Ezeagu thank you for providing link to Whitaker's interview on 'youtube' and this is enough proof in itself. A live confirmation from the horses mouth of having his genealogy traced to the Ibo's of Nigeria (on his father's side) and to Ghana (on his mother's side ), it is therefore official and hope this clarifies and settles the arguments. Once again thanks Ezeagu for setting the record straight!

Could someone please point out (the source with facts) where and when Forest Whitaker had DNA test which reveals or locates his origin as 'Nigerian'? It is no rocket science and neither would it be disputed that every 'Black' Man and Woman all over the world irrespective of their nationality has their root linked to Africa. However that Whitaker is conferred with the Chieftainsy title does not (as a matter of fact) necessarily mean that his ancestors were from Nigeria or even Igboland, it is not the first time (and neither will it be the last) that a foreigner has been bestowed with a title in several parts/region of Nigeria but please that does not in anyway establish their Origin!
Sports / Anichebe Handcuffed By Police- Suspected Of Planning A Robbery! by JerryAdams: 4:12pm On Mar 12, 2009
Beat this if you can And too right He Deserve an Apology shocked!

Premier League - Anichebe cuffed by bungling cops
Eurosport - Thu, 12 Mar 10:58:00 2009

Everton have demanded an apology from police after striker Victor Anichebe was handcuffed by officers who suspected him of planning a jewellery robbery.

The 20-year-old, who is out injured for the rest of the season, was swooped on as he was looking at a shop window in Knutsford, Cheshire.

Police said that officers intervened after CCTV footage appeared to show Anichebe and a friend "acting suspiciously", but released both men without charge.

An eyewitness said Anichebe, walking using crutches after suffering damaged ankle ligaments, reacted furiously, saying: "I'm a footballer - I play for Everton. Why would I want to rob a shop?"

Anichebe is contracted to Everton until summer 2011 and is thought to earn around £20,000-a-week.

Sean Reynolds, 25, told The Sun: "Either Victor or his mate said, 'If I was a white man it wouldn't matter you're being racist'. A crowd was gathering by this stage. It was getting more and more agitated."

Everton said Anichebe has been left "distressed", adding: We would now expect him to receive a full and unreserved apology from the police and both he and the club would then consider the matter closed."

A police spokesman said: "Upon speaking with the two men, a heated dialogue developed in an attempt to ascertain exactly what the two persons were doing outside the jeweller's premises.

"During the course of this exchange, an officer took the decision to restrain one of the two men concerned by applying handcuffs.

"It was subsequently ascertained that there was no criminal conduct whatsoever on behalf of the two men concerned and they were in no way involved in any criminal activity."

*Fact Ireland made it to the Senior World Cup level before the Nigeria debut in USA '94.
*Fact statistics and records have shown that Ireland has won more times against 'Her Majesty boys'-England.
*Fact Ireland has never won the Junior World Cup , and a guranteed fact they've never (and would never) field 'over aged Players'!
*Fact the quality of the domestic league is of utmost standard in comparison with other/most EU country (which is way superior to the Nigeria local league) , the Managerial/organisational ability and the cupidity for excellence by 'The Irish FA' cannot be overemphasised , one which Nigeria as a nation could draw from!
*Fact the reason why Nigeria has been playing friendlies with Ireland (almost annually) since 2004 was partly as a result of a pact sighned back then , this could be likened to what is for example or the equivalent of say the 'six Nation Rugby tournament'!
*Fact there have been mass exodus of Nigerian players abroad in pursuit of greener pasture and exposure (thanks to the likes of Stephen Keshi) , Fact Ireland is(was) synonymous to the religious life and Nigeria have been blessed by the invaluable work of the Irish Misssionaries but alas 'The boys in Green' (Ireland) have been in the business of soccer and have carved a niche for themselves at the highest level long before anyone from the 'Giant of Africa'- Nigeria.
*Fact in coparison to the Irish team which play together as a (formidable) single entity, no doubt the 'Super Eagles' consist of a bunch of individually skillful players , but the bitter truth is that they (Nigeria) lack the tenacity of a (would be) world champions and the heart(and passion) of a European.
Finally I say to all the sycophants in here to get off your high horse and go back to the basics before you start slagging any team/country , Come on the 'boys in Green'!
Business / Re: What Was Your Worst Experience With Our Nigerian Banks? by JerryAdams: 9:05am On Feb 18, 2009
It's a shame that avoidable and disgraceful irregularities still is a part and parcel of 'The Giant of Africa'- Nigeria's banking sector. During my 3weeks visit to Nigeria in January '09, I had money wired to Oceanic bank in Lagos, the bank official after all the ceremony handed me my money in batches/wraps of #1000 Naira bills as it went through the couting machine, I was actually set to cellect the money and leave because I had an appointment to meet up with couple with the fact that the heat in the bank was becoming unbearable but something inside of me made me start counting manually myself as I was handed the cash, alas what did I find #100 Naira bills inbetween the #1000 Naira notes!
Having read through the comments above on this thread it beats my imagination hollow that people like 'Sever34' could come out here with such a pathetic excuse that cannot be given to pre-school kids to defend the shameless act committed by banks. The reason why Nigeria is in such an awful state is because it is a nation of self denial. That the Nigeria banking sector has advanced in it's services such as the introduction of Internet/telephone banking as it's done in modern day society no doubt is a welcome development but like other countries it must step up in areas of accountability, security, transparency, consistencies n efficiency if it want to be reconed and allowed to sit with the venerable elite!
However people must be very careful while using the ATM, when you insert your bank card before keying in your PIN cover your hands (preferably place a paper/mag or your other hand over the hand you'll be using to key in your PIN) as not to reveal your PIN should incase there is a device on top of the ATM (which usually record/transmit your details) you're using. This type of crime which was mainly carried out by Russian/Eastern Europeans was attempted in the UK, US and other western countries. These hooligans had device that clone/read bank cards and another device that record/transmit PIN. Even though some people fall victims to this crimes, once a customer notify the bank the stolen money is refunded imidiately to the customer's a/c (no waiting for any investigations), the stolen money becomes a criminal matter which is handled by the police. Every bank is insured against all uncertainties including theft!
When bank employs the services of it's employees, they (employee) inturn act on behalf of the banks, if for whatever reason an official makes any error lets say forgets/fails to process a lodged cheque the blame would/should be on the bank (as it's the practice in the developed world) and not that of a singular staff member. There is no excuse for dispensing of counterfeit notes on any ATM, how on earth did these fake currency get there in the first place? If an inocent person who cannot/does not spot the fake goes on to attempt to use the money in some shop/market place, do you know the severity of what might happen if the seller raise an alarm? Would the bank come to their aid when a mob set in to deliver jungle justice?
Paying ridiculously outrageous charges (such as solicitor's fees or whatever you call it for carrying out checks on whatever kind of a/c) is criminal especially when already there is a legal dept in the bank, and waiting for eternity for bank cards, PIN or internet PIN while defrauding hard working and struggling working class all in the name of 'bank hidden charges' is an absolute disgrace. Less excuse and more effort for there is no substitute for hard work!
