Politics / Who Is Trying To Resurrect Shekau? by Joeadamu86: 5:01pm On Sep 26, 2013
I was puzzled yesterday when daily trust posted a report online in which Abubakar Shekau claimed to be alive about two (2) months after the Nigerian military announced his possible death. Unlike his previous videos, we are yet to see the said video online; even BBC Hausa Service did a report on the issue this morning and compared an audio version of the purported video with the voice of previous authentic Shekau’s video, and according to the BBC reporter Sahabi Imam, the voice in the video which is yet to be seen is distinct from previous recordings of Shekau. So l ask, who is trying to resurrect Shekau? Let that person show us his face at least in the new video – I may be wrong, but will entertain criticism(s) and better opinion(s) from anyone with superior argument on this piece of news.

akpanoka: Alqaeda released a statement urging all muslims and terrorist cells linked with the grroup to attak US interest and those of their ally. Few days after, we had d US naval shooting where about 23 people were killed(according to some reports), the Kenya mall incident, the Pakinstani Church bombing on sunday where about 100 or so were killed. In Nigeria, happening at d same time, d Apo guys, some were killed, and probably some escaped.

We must recall that our own Boko Haram hass link with Alqaeda. Last Sallah, the US intercepted communications between alqaeda leaders, and Boko Haram allegedly Participated, that's to show us how far they've gone. They have attacked Abj before and can attack it again if proactive measures are not emplaced.

The DSS has being at d forefront of dd nation's camapaign against teorror. Even Ihejirika acknowledged it recently when I attended my brothers passing out in their college. So we must give them credit, more so that it was their operation in collaboration with d Army. These 2 organisations are tested and trusted. Hardly would u hear of accidental discharge involving them. They are professionals and I love them cos they spend fortune in training their staff

Lastly, we need to work with d security agencies. We must not bring religion in all issues. The men have done their work to avert disaster, they deserve commendaation. What if Abuja was attacked? And many people killed? Perhaps ur parents involved, God forbid? Security people are to safe lives, they won't go about destroying for no reason. I believe them, I stand with them, and Criminals shouldn't commit crime where I am, cos I GO REPORT U GIVE THEM
O boy my eyes don open oh, this ur explanation get weight oh, I wish everybody will see it in that light, prevention is always between that cure, alqaeda is always of the rampage, when the secret police avert such attacks we clap hand for them,if to say any attack happen now me sef go criticize, but at least the casualty is minimal and the attack is prevented that's just the message.

Bad Attitude: I am here to speak my mind and regardless of what anyone might term it,na for your pocket.
We have to come to terms with the very fact that these terrorists guys are taking their business to another dimension! Someone made an analysis that i felt compelled to reason with...
We are all aware of the kenya Mall incident and how painful it touched us humans that a fellow Human being is asked the name of Prophet Mohammed's mother and if you fail...you are shot in cold blood. I got scared to even visit Shoprite at APO cos the incident that occurred in APO might not be far from a plan to replicate what happened in Kenya here in Abuja.... this might appear far-fetched to some people thats why they are my thoughts.
If you are really of the opinion that the men of the DSS killed innocent squatters as claimed by some blockhead media reportage and BH sympathizers why did they not go on rampage after the Ombatse killing those guys wen they are unprepared...after all they were duly provoked by the killing of 10 of their men.
There is just NO way, the men of the DSS whom have been in the fore-front of the BH fight would just get up one sweet morning and go kill random squatters...it just does not seem logical to me in any sense. The antecedent of the DSS speak for them so all you guys saying otherwise need some reset button to help you think for yourself...there are alot of uses for the head, one of them is to think, and not be swayed by saharareporters and other pathetic reporting to discredit the only agency policing the country just so that BH boys can have a field day... Be wise!

All of you professionals in labelling NLanders with names just becos they express a diff view from the bandwagonism floating around ... feel free to tag me. I no send you! grin grin grin

If you have a better opinion or even a worse one, the floor is open...knock yaself out!
Even though ur name is not encouraging, u have made a lot of sense, that's just a picture things and its the truth, I want to assure that u are not the only one having such thoughts. We Nigerians are very intelligent and vigilant, we know the agencies that are working to keep this country together, the Army and DSS deserve a standing ovation from us all.
Politics / Re: The SSS, The Police And Their Cat And Mouse Game Over APO Killing by Joeadamu86: 4:22pm On Sep 23, 2013
As a follower of events in this country and the globe, inter agency rivalry is a global phenomenon, even in the US the world's advanced democracy the rival amongst security agencies is always obvious, but at the end of the day, national interest always prevails, coming back to Nigeria, alot of agencies have been carved out of the Nigeria Police Force, mainly due to lack of efficiency, to say the least the police still has a major role in the maintenance of public peace, but what we have seen so far is an agency wallowing in the vortex of corruption and non performance, i wanted to joint the police a few years ago after my youth service, my father had to beg me to be more patient for another job, why? because of credibility problem. The truth of the matter is the police is not helping matters, they would have been making work alot easier for other agencies if they have been performing their roles effectively, the secret police that is the DSS, has always been top of their game in producing good results even though with some lapses, but compared with the NPF, they are just excellent, if the DSS can produce intelligence and the NPF work on it, i think we we will be heading somewhere, but if the rivalry continuous, it will continue to hamper a lot of progress.

Politics / SSS Absolves Governor Akpabio Of Plot To Kill Senator Etok by Joeadamu86: 7:30am On May 07, 2013
The Nigerian secret service set to charge suspect to court.
The State Security Service, SSS, said on Monday that it will soon charge to court a 29-year-old graduate of Mechanical Engineering who claimed to have been contracted by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, to kill Aloysius Etok, a senator.
The Deputy Director, Public Relations of the Service, Marilyn Ogar stated this at a press conference in Abuja today.
She said that Mr. Etok, last month, reported to the Service that Mr. Olaore telephoned him to inform him that he had been contracted by Mr. Akpabio’s loyalists to kill the senator.
She added that upon receiving the information from the senator, the Service asked him to play along and thereafter he (senator) invited Mr. Olaore, an indigene of Osun State though born in Rivers State, to Abuja where he lodged the suspect in a hotel.
Mrs. Ogar said that in the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed that he hatched the plot when he stumbled on the senator’s complimentary card at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, from where he obtained the senator’s number.
According to her, Mr. Olaore, who admitted being aware of the political differences between Messrs Etok and Akpabio over the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial seat by 2015, seized the opportunity to contact the senator.
Mr. Olaore, she added, introduced himself as “General Africa” an ex-militant from Bayelsa State and told the senator that he had been hired to kill him.
The SSS spokesperson stated that during the investigation, Mr. Olaore revealed that he had never met Mr. Akpabio; the Commissioner for Environment or one Kenneth (a.k.a Wayas), the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area who he initially alleged hired him to assassinate the senator.
Mr. Olaore, she added, told the Service that he offered to broker peace between the senator and the governor and also requested for transport fare to Akwa Ibom where he intended to initiate the peace meeting between both parties.
“From the foregoing, Olaore hatched the phantom assassination plot to fraudulently extort money from Senator Aloysius Etok by exploiting the perceived rift between him and Governor Akpabio. Consequently, Olaore will be charged to court soon,” Mrs. Ogar said.
The SSS spokesperson also warned members of the public to be wary of individuals who exploit activities, be it political, religious or economic for criminal ends.
She restated that the long arm of the law will catch up with enemies who take to crime and criminality, adding “let us collectively remain vigilant and report suspicious activities and individuals to security agencies.”

Politics / Stop Burning Churches, Schools In The Name Of Islam, Afghan President Advises BH by Joeadamu86: 2:46pm On May 06, 2013
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has advised Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria to embrace peace.

Karzai gave the advice when Nigeria’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Dauda Danladi, presented his letters of credence in Kabul, the Afghan capital recently.

“Boko Haram should stop burning schools, Mosques, Churches in the name of Islam. You should not destroy your country if you are true Muslims. You should protect lives because in Islam if you kill one, it is as if you have killed the whole of humanity and if you save life, it is as if you have saved the whole of humanity” he was quoted in a statement from the Nigerian Embassy in Pakistan.

President Karzai recalled the activities of the Taliban in his country saying it was externally motivated

Politics / Polio Vaccine Is Safe, Sultan Reassures by Joeadamu86: 3:31pm On Apr 29, 2013
he Sultan made the statement in Sokoto on Sunday.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has appealed to parents to allow their children be immunised with the polio vaccine, saying it is safe to be vaccinated.

Mr. Abubakar made the appeal in Sokoto on Sunday at the launching of audio and video songs on polio, organised by the Rima FM Listeners Friendship Association, Sokoto.

The Sultan, who was represented by the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Mera, also said intensive researches had been conducted on the vaccine and it was found to be very safe.

“We wouldn’t have accepted it if the vaccine is not safe. NAFDAC also certifies all the batches of the vaccine imported into the country,’’ he said.

In his speech Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State commended the association for the gesture.

“The effort will help in further sensitising Nigerians on the dangers of polio and the need to eradicate it,’’ the governor, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculure, Arzika Tureta, said.

Mr. Wamakko, who also noted the efforts of the Northern Traditional Leaders Committee (NTLC) on Polio and Routine Immunisation, urged the group to sustain the tempo.

The Minister of State for Health, Ali Pate, who spoke through Ado Abdullahi, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to wiping out polio from the country.

Mr. Pate, however, cautioned against politicising the campaign against polio by some Nigerians and commended NTLC for its sustained efforts.

The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Ado Mohammed, expressed delight that no polio case had been recorded in the state this year.

Mr. Mohammed, who spoke through Shehu Abdulganiyu, said the agency was making frantic efforts together with all the stakeholders to fully eradicate polio from Nigeria.

The Chairman of the association, Nasiru Labaran, explained that the songs were produced with a view to further sensitising Nigerians on the dangers of polio.

The association conferred on Mr. Wamakko a merit award for his contributions to the success of the association’s activities.

Other recipients of awards at the occasion were the Sultan, Mr. Pate and the chairmen of Silame, Yabo, Tureta and Rabah Local Governments, among others

Politics / 2015: APC In Dilemma Over Buhari’s Candidature by Joeadamu86: 12:49pm On Apr 29, 2013
Two years ahead of the 2015 presidential election, the leaders of the yet-to-be registered All Progressive Congress, APC, are already in dilemma over the ambition of the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Already, Buhari has indicated interest to contest the 2015 poll, for the fourth time.

Impeccable sources told National Mirror that while some major stakeholders in the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, are keen in picking a northern candidate, particularly from the North- West to confront President Goodluck Jonathan in the election; they are averse to Buhari’s candidacy.

But another major plank in the coalition is rooting for Buhari’s candidacy on the strength of his electoral value as demonstrated in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential elections.

A competent source in APC told our correspondent that the major stakeholders in the All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP, and the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, believed that Buhari is a sellable candidate.

“Even before the takeoff of the APC, the choice of who to be the flag bearer in the 2015 presidential election has been a major source of concern to us.

“A major plank in the ACN does not want Buhari while the majority views his electoral value as an asset to the APC in the quest for the Presidency,” the source said.

Another source said that a prominent leader in the ACN had earlier made a move to prevail on the former ruler not to contest the 2015 election.

It was, however, gathered that Buhari was unyielding which informed his recent statement that he would once again contest the election.

“In 2015, if given the mandate, I will uphold your trust,” he had said penultimate week.

A top member of the CPC said the leadership of the party was aware of the subterranean moves to prevent Buhari from being the APC presidential candidate in 2015.

He, however, vowed to resist any attempt to pick the APC candidate through undemocratic means.

“We are all democrats and equal partners in the merger process. So, every stakeholder has equal rights to vie for the presidential ticket. Buhari is eminently qualified and he will pick the APC ticket through open and democratic process,” he said.

Some stalwarts in the ACN, however, reasoned that Buhari’s outing against President Jonathan in the 2011 election is a major factor to consider.

They said that if the former ruler could defeat President Jonathan in 12 of the 19 states in the North, he was a sure bet for the APC in his quest to win the 2015 election.

In the 2011 presidential poll, President Jonathan, as an incumbent, polled 22, 350, 242 votes to defeat Buhari, who got 11, 914,953 votes.

Out of the 19 northern states, President Jonathan won in seven states of Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba and Adamawa.

Buhari, as the CPC candidate, defeated the President in 12 northern states of Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Borno, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara.

The performance of Buhari in the 2011 election and previous presidential elections has put some stakeholders in the APC in dilemma.

“Don’t forget that Buhari won in 12 states against Jonathan’s seven. So he is no pushover. We want to know which better candidate the coalition intends to produce outside Buhari,” a source said.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, in an interview with National Mirror, said no permutation could stop Buhari from contesting the 2015 presidential election.

He said: “He has told everybody that when he is given presidential ticket, he will contest the election. Gen. Buhari, as a democrat, will run for the Presidency.

“Any creature can aspire to deliver his country from the shackles of bad governance.

“Don’t listen to speculation. There is nothing like permutation on issues like age. Nobody is using age in the presidential contest. General Buhari remains qualified. How old was Ronald Reagan, Nelson Mandela when they became presidents of United States and South Africa respectively?”

Buhari will be 73 by 2015. Critics believe that age may be a factor against his candidacy.

Even the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has expressed fears that the APC will be torn apart on the altar of ambition.

“Don’t worry, this is not the first time Nigerians would hear about merger. Let elections come and everyone will see the problems within them. They will be torn to rags because of ambitions,” he had said.

In another development, many governors of the PDP have retraced their steps in their opposition to the second term ambition of President Jonathan in 2015.

It was learnt at the weekend that a couple of the recalcitrant governors have visited President Jonathan to beg for forgiveness and pledged their loyalty in the face of the awesome powers of the president and an uncertain political future of some of them.

“The president needed to demonstrate he is in charge and that no governor can challenge his authority. This is the reason why the president is baring his fangs against Amaechi,” a source said.

According to a source in the Presidency, only three governors – Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Babangida Aliyu (Niger) – are still adamant on their opposition to the president.

The volte face was unconnected with the decision of President Jonathan to wield the big stick on Amaechi, the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF.

Already, the party structure had been taken away from Amaechi in Rivers State. Besides, his aides are being discreetly probed by various agencies of government.

It is against this background that the governors have embarked on reconciliation with the president.

“We are in a comfortable position with the governors today. In the past weeks, many of them in company of prominent leaders have visited the President where they pledged to work with him in his transformation agenda and in his re-election bid.

“The game has really changed”, an aide of the president told National Mirror.

An aide of a northern governor told our correspondent that his governor stands in a good stead working with the President.

“It is true that we have issues with the Presidency, but now reason has prevailed. So, we lose nothing being in the good books of the president. Being in opposition to the President doesn’t pay us. This is why we have made amends,” the aide, who pleaded anonymity said.

Meanwhile, contrary to several denials by the Presidency that it has not begin campaign for the 2015 polls, there are indications that associates of the president and some of his trusted aides have put machinery in place to sell the candidacy of President Jonathan.

A source in the known told National Mirror that the Presidency is reaching out discreetly to prominent northern leaders and Emirs to curry support for the 2015 Presidency.

Serving ministers and public office holders have been the link of the President in the North.

In the South-West, President Jonathan has met with a couple of leaders, traditional, political and religious from the zone. Also, several political groups are being formed to sell the Jonathan’s candidacy in the zone.

Politics / Melaye Insists On His Assassination Attack Story by Joeadamu86: 12:16pm On Apr 18, 2013
Dino Melaye, the Executive Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Network, insists there was an assassination attempt on his life on Monday, adding that he has brought threats to his person in the past to the attention of the police.

Mr. Melaye, a former member of the House of Representatives, forwarded to SaharaReporters copies of letters he had previously sent to the police to inform them of those threats, and his requests for their protection.

Mr. Melaye’s first letter was to the Commissioner of Police of the Federal Capital Territory was dated January 19, 2012. In it, he asked for two police officers to protect his residence. “This has become most pertinent as a result of recent strong threat on the lives of my family members and my humble self,” the letter said.

On July 31, he sent another letter to the Minister of Police Affairs requesting a courtesy call to introduce his non-governmental organization, the Anti-corruption Network. In the letter, he suggested to the Minister “the need to build necessary and effective synergy between the Network” and the police department.

In a third letter dated September 20, he asked the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, for two non-uniformed policemen to provide protection, but he did not state the nature of the threat.

Yesterday, a Commissioner of Police in Abuja, Olufemi Ogunbayo, denied there was an assassination attempt on the life of Mr. Melaye. He told Premium Times, “The police have gone to the scene of the crime and we could not find any car parked there; no trace of shells on the ground.”

The commissioner also disputed Melaye’s claim that his car was bullet proof.

Mr. Melaye, a former member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party but now a member of the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, had reported that his vehicle was shot at on Monday night in the Central Business District of Abuja as he headed home from the National Hospital. In light of the refusal of the police authorities to provide him with protection, the former lawmaker said that he would now look up only to God to provide him with protection
