Politics / Why You Should Pray For Nigeria by johnnieode(m): 12:37am On May 28, 2016
I will start by saying this, "the thunder that will fire those that are sitting on Nigeria's progress is doing push-ups, gathering momentum and waiting for the right time to strike". Their level of selfishness demands a 2 weeks crusade.

Come to think of it, when you spell knife, the K is silent. When you say Psychology, it's pronounced "sykology" therefore the P is silent. There are many instances like that in English Language. When i first heard the word PSYCHOLOGY. I spelt "Sychology". I didn't know there was a 'silent' letter "P". What am i really saying? Don't be confused. When President Buhari and APC promised N45 as PMS pump price. We also didn't know there was a "silent" hundred naira before it!

Please, who has that girl's numba. The same girl that gave Abacha apple? I have candidates for her.

It is easier for those at the top of power to spend over N140,000 on Don perignon that they will shit and piss out in 15 minutes but they'll see it inhumane to increase minimum wage to N100,000. The rate at which things are going... Goats will start barking, Dogs will start mooing, Lions will start bleating, and frogs will start singing.

Soon, we might need to pay to walk the streets of Nigeria, pay to breathe, i might even start paying the government just for saying "hi" to a beautiful girl that is strolling down the street.

He that has hear let him hear, and he that cannot hear, let him read the writings on the wall. Pray cause the future of your children depends on it. Pray hard till something happens!

I listened to this story and tears rolled down my cheeks. I thought of sharing it with you. I hope you will enjoy it:

She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: “How is my little boy? His he going to be all right? When can I see him?” The surgeon said, “I’m sorry, we did all we could, but your boy didn’t make it.”

Stella said, “Why do little children get cancer? Doesn’t God care anymore? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?” The surgeon asked, “Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he is transported to the university.”

Stella asked the nurses to stay with her while she said goodbye to her son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair. “Would you like a lock of his hair?” the nurse asked. Stella nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy’s hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Stella.

The mother said, “It was Sam’s idea to donate his body to the University for study. He said it might help somebody else.” I said no at first, but Sam said, “Mom, I won’t be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his mom.” She went on, “My Sam had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else, always waiting to help others if he could.”

Literature / Cry For Freedom: Episode Two by johnnieode(m): 2:42pm On Oct 25, 2013

Back in Britain, 1710… in the time when men sold their brothers, sisters and neighbours in exchange for commodities, settlement of debt, used for manual labour, thought they were animals and treated like one; “involuntary servitude,” –most likely the right word for it,
slavery. Cruelty and hatred prevailed in the hearts of many like a plague of locust feasting on a field of grains and freedom alienated from the depth of their minds. People kidnapped from the comfort of their homes, in their once peaceful life, are taken into captivity in slave-ships, branded and packaged as sardines. Slave-ships were enormous cargo ships converted for the purpose of transporting slaves in hundreds or more. “Abandon hope all ye who enter here,” –all hope and dreams were lost, skills and families. It was better to die than to hit the markets for slave auction. It was like going to hell, journey to a land of no return.

A profitable business it was for the nobles, slave-trading, most common business between the 17th and 18th century. Landed gentries with their wild ambition to expand their labour force for cultivation of their plantation were never left out of this picture. Negroes were regarded as a necessity to their growing farm and their daily life.

Slave auctioning decided the fate of Negroes to their final destination. They hit the market for bidding and auctioning, where they were placed on the block depending on their physical appearance, capability and strength. Those with weak structure and children were offered as bonus to well bargained or paid purchases. The Negroes were examined with as little consideration as if they were brutes; the buyers pulling their mouths open to see their teeth, pinching their limbs to find how muscular they were, walking them up and down to detect any signs of lameness, making them stoop and bend in different ways that they might be certain there was no concealed rupture or wound.

There in the middle of the market where slaves were bought and sold, St. Augustine’s market, rounded-up among the other Negroes laid a black African lad of 19 years. The dark, well-structured, and muscled boy looked striking on the outer shell. Unexpectedly, he felt his heart begin to pound. Muttering, as he frets profusely and the world around him began to spin. North to South, East to West, it was as if the four cardinal points met at his head. He collapsed to the earth vibrating as though he was having a seizure, drool flinging in all directions out of his mouth. His eyes deemed and he kept calm for few seconds.

Eyes wide opened, he looked up, seeing the weird faces around him, fear gripped him. Whirling in fright, he tossed the chains on his wrists to and fro. Adrenaline shot through him as he dug himself into the crowd of Negroes,
“W-where am I-I?” He exclaimed,
“Has he gone mad?” Murmured the crowd in chains,
“Are you alright?” Said a voice from the crowd as he was still trying to identify who altered the speech.

“Have you gone mad?” Bellowed a white-man in a distance.
He saw a large gray eyes narrowing speculatively upon him,
“W-who are you and where am I?” he asked,
“You are in paradise, slowpoke.”
“You are no good to me dead, put yourself together you Negro!” The white-man Snarled.

The sound flowed through him like wild fire, he rapped himself in his chains. He compressed his lips together to weather the white-man’s icily spoken words. He was unsure of what has happened, he was unsure of what was happening and he was unsure of what was to come. The only thing he could do was to timid himself like a little child.

Jingled, the auctioneer’s bell “Gather round people, new merchandise for sell,” The white-man called, assembling passersby and some old folks as speculators. Their appearance portrayed they were nobles. Trying with their earnest attention, they followed the rapid voice of the auctioneer. He beckoned on a nearby spectator, “good-day my goodly sir, are you interested in buying a merchandise?”

“Am not interested in whatever you’re selling, they look scrawny… they won’t last a day or two” -answered the man. The auctioneer paused, looked back, staring at his merchandise, and placed the unfortunate 19 year old buried in his chains on the block.
“This lad will make a fine servant, my liege,”
“I will hand him over to you for $750.” He offered,
“I will pay half the price if you are willing to trade.” The man bided.

The auctioneer thought about the boy’s bizarre act from earlier and decided he was better to be sold at any price than to die on him. He handed him over to the man. Knowing that he has been sold at a price as a slave, the boy advanced, with his hands crossed on his bosom, made a quick short curtsy, and stood mute, looking appealingly in the benevolent man’s face.

“I’m Sir George, what’s your name?” The man asked, holding the boy’s face up.
Wincing internally, “Am –am James Muyiwa.”

In life we all have different challenges; the good, the bad and the worse. Whatever situation we find ourselves we must survive, and to survive, we must be strong and keep our head up facing
every challenge.

Often in life we try to make provisions but these provisions cannot pass as solutions to our problems. It’s just frustrating when a problem comes up, it feels like you’re being “pushed to the wall,” but if challenges don’t come up most of us will never be prepared for another.

Literature / The Raging Thunderstorm by johnnieode(m): 1:17pm On Oct 07, 2013
It’s a beautiful morning in the village of Ibate, as farmers prepare to go for their morning duties at the farm, women with baskets preparing to leave for the market. Outside in the open are the
children- some in their khakis, panties and others playing naked in the dirt.

Must Read: How To Be A Successful Businessman Or Woman

At sunrise, just right before mid-day came the scuttle of a wild wind accompanied by thunder and lightening. The roaring of the wind puts in the picture how angry the wind was. From left to right, up and down tossing everything in its path. The deep-blue sky turned dark and packed with fierce rumbling.

Frightfully, people seeing this “me helm” took to their heels running to and fro. Children from their playing spot running for shelter, mothers calling out to their far-off children, others trying to get their drying cloths off the hangers, and the men trying to put their house and family in order.

Perhaps, the storm was just passing by, but why did it rob us off some of our belongings? Alas! Some of those stolen properties were all we’ve got. Who knows if we’ll ever recover from this disaster, who knows if the storm will someday return? This is a question our encounter with the raging storm has left on our minds.

Literature / I Lost My Best Friend by johnnieode(m): 5:45pm On Sep 28, 2013
I regrettably announce the death of a friend, guardian and a companion. He is survived by no one but me.

We grew up together like siblings from the same parents, we took our first steps together, and we played together in the dirt. He was like a brother to me, he was always there to protect me, he was always there to get me into trouble and then still there to get me out again. He would guide me jealousy because he never wanted anyone else to come between us. Who can ever ask for more?

Painfully, the cold hands of death have taken you from me. Death has taken you from me and left me roaming this earth without your presence around me, it’s so sad to see death come between us. I wouldn’t wish for a better companion and friend because you were perfect just the way you were.

Always for you my friend, I will keep you in my thoughts, I will carry you in my dreams, I will always remember those days we walked around in the park, how we chased and ran after birds in the meadow and I will tell the world how well we spent our lives together as best friends. Goodbye BRUNO, may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace… you have been a wonderful dog.

The fact that civilization began or originated from Africa is no more a news. Civilization began in Egypt, in a rapid state. The earliest history of man (Australopithecus) can be traced to Tanzania in Africa.

The Egyptians introduced the first form of writing known as hieroglyphic and was later change to hieratic. Hieroglyphic is the use of pictorial character to write or represent words. They also invented the best form of irrigation known as Sha-doof. This form of irrigation is a counter-balanced sweep which has been in use since ancient times. Also, the building of the pyramids involved great mathematical calculations not to talk of the the rapid growth in research; Egyptians preserved bodies of Pharaoh and top officials by mummification for research purpose. Some other ancient discoveries by Egyptians include; introducing the first calender, use of chariots for war, discovering copper etc.

Most foods are prepared using ingredients like millet, grains, yams etc. to prepare different delicacies by different people e.g. the South African Morogo, Boerewors, etc, the Nigerian Gbegiri that goes well with Amala when served with Ewedu soup, and not forgetting Tuwo Shinkafa, Kunun Aya etc. Kenyan Ugali is a cornmeal starch made into a thick paste that goes well with any kind of meat stew. Other Kenyan dishes include; Maharagwe, Nyama Choma, Sukuma Wkik, etc. Africa exports most of her agricultural produce to other parts of the world with unfavorable weather, soil or for any other reasons. Africa is so blessed with wildlife ranging from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope, elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, monkeys etc, located in different countries of the continent. Not to forget the top tourist attractions in Africa like the Victoria falls lying in between Zambia and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa which comprises of two national parks; Mosi-oa-Tunya National park in Zambia and Victoria falls National park in Zimbabwe. The Djenne Mosque located on an island in the Niger River Delta, which is a center of Islamic learning. The magnificent and beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa with a huge slab of sandstone situated in the middle of the town. Literature / An Experience I Will Never Forget by johnnieode(m): 10:38am On Sep 25, 2013
Everyone has a story, but this one’s mine. The experience I will never forget began at a very tender age, about seven years old, when life then was so interesting and full of adventures. As little as I was, I listened to no one, want to do and figure out things on my own, whether good or bad.

It was on March 15, 2005 when I traveled with my parents to the village on a Christmas holiday. I felt as if I was in another world entirely, an environment completely surrounded with old thatched houses with bushes around the vicinity. My first question to my parents was “are we still on earth?

Sooner or later, adaptation began to take its due course. I woke up one morning and marveled at the melodious songs the bird sang from their next up in the trees, the cool breeze of nature sunk into my skin as a sweet sensation ran down my spine, I became entangled with the monkeys as they swing from tree to tree chartering at each other. I could feel the sand under my feet as the ants matched to their early morning duty. At a point a thought came to me “this might not be a bad idea after all.”

Surprisingly, I was like a tourist who moved from nook and cranny looking for one thing of amusement. I walked my way to the river when fortunately no one was around to see how I would “carry out” another adventure without interruption. As a child what I held in mind was “what you don’t know can’t kill you”, so I decided to explore the river and world beneath it. I dived into the river and thought to myself “… yes am swimming, am a scuba diver”, as I dived deeper into the open waters. At that time I could see different creatures I never dream't of seeing; fishes that come in different shapes and sizes, plants that move along with the river tide, crustaceans that I believed were amazing to the sight, “what a beautiful world I thought to myself”.

No sooner did I start gasping for air as bubbles gushed out of my mouth. I swam as fast as I could for the top of the river but lost consciousness before I could reach. I passed out and woke up shortly after at the river bank with a man standing next to me. I could hear him say that, he has been watching me from a distance. At that moment I thought to myself, “to die would be an awful adventure”.
