This checks out.

I previously pronounced Volkswagen as Vaulks-Waging, lol.

Until my one-time peer in the Uni who specialized in German taught me that it's actually pronounced as Folks-Vahgen

If na your time, na your time...presence or absence of world class healthcare ain't gonna stop the inevitable.

Two years ago, a friend in the US also had a cardiac arrest, at 35. Had to get a pacemaker after a very close call, as he said he was told he was defibrillated 36 times. Lucky for him, it wasn't his time.

If your friend was in Eti Osa or Bariga, he'd be dead.
It'll definitely be "his time" to go.

1. Since the time of our ancestors who even went as far as to have many wives to ensure they had as many as possible, it was never about sex at all. I recall my mother telling me that her mother, who was a second wife mind you, had 8 kids and only 2 of them survived. It was mostly about survivability and not sex. Terrible healthcare means many will likely die off before adulthood. undecided

2. There is also that. Many of the poor who breed like rats are aware that if all the children survive they would probably not be able to take care of them all, so many of them end up sending some of them out into slavery, etc. undecided

Lol. Well, my own perspective was that the men of old had many wives and children so they can help with labour as things were pretty manual back then; tilling the soil and such...

Also, I think I've also seen families who are well off who actually have many children. Some families with money flowing are actually quite large with tonnes of children, nieces, nephews, etc.

I think it looks like the rich have fewer children in general because, those you'd call rich are far fewer than the poorer folk...and then again, seeing people birth and not being able to cater for them brings this irritation that drives the general opinion that "poor people breed like rats"; whereas na the usual 3 & 4 kids wey dem born.

But I do get your point. It's not far off to assume that people would intentionally birth children to fight the odds of them getting killed off due to ill health.

You never wondered why the poor even in Nigeria tended to have many more kids than the rich? shocked shocked shocked

Saw it as sex being the cheapest form of entertainment for most poor people...not necessarily because they want to have more kids so some won't die due to ill health.

The worst I've imagined is birthing many kids so incase some are useless, some will "lift the family".

And poor na relative term sha - most of us here are quite poor but let's not go into the semantics...
Religion / Re: Chris Oyakhilome's Malaria Vaccine Conspiracy Theories By BBC by Kaycee54321(m): 7:37pm On Apr 21
Kobojunkie:
It does if you in fact reason it. People used to have many kids because they were not sure which of them would survive sickness and other issues. With better healthcare, you find that people are less inclined to have more kids as the survivability of the few they have is greatly improved, and so they can focus more on living their own lives even as they raise the few kids they have. This has been observed in much of the developed world. Look at places like Sweden, South Korea, Japan, etc. undecided

Hmm.

Very interesting perspective - People birthing many kids to beat the odds of some dying off...Never imagined that scenario, to be honest.
Religion / Re: Chris Oyakhilome's Malaria Vaccine Conspiracy Theories By BBC by Kaycee54321(m): 7:21pm On Apr 21

Mr Gates did not advocate for the world's depopulation.

He has clarified in the past that he saw population growth and health improvement as complementary: "When health improves, families choose to have less kids."

Regardless of any misgivings about the rather strange takes by the preacher, the bolded doesn't make any sense.

I have always opined that something happened to the Negro during evolution that made ours slow compared to other races.

I've always hold on to this theory till I depart this world.

The fact that some of us are still making cases for our under-development rather than doing some deep introspective thinking solidifies this thought.

Watched a documentary video earlier on the Arab slave trade (which I didn't know existed by the way) and you know where they obtained the majority of their slaves?

You guessed it! The negro continent and transported via the red sea. And on account of our skin the Arabs subjected us to the dirtiest, hardest work (like the salt mines where we died like chickens) possible compared to a white or slavic slave. Imagine a good looking white woman slave being sold for 10000 dinars and the negro equivalent sold for 150 dinars. Not justifying "slavery" but goes to show how we have always been at the bottom of the pyramid.

1500 years later, no progress, no development, tribalism, sentiments, lack of logical thinking, greed and selfishness, still the bottom of the human race and still no motivation to improve.

There is nothing normal about this. We need to start asking ourselves some hard questions and telling ourselves some bitter truth.

A typical Nigerian man will rather be lost in the flood than to be backed and carried by a woman.

Celebrities / Re: Dayo Amusa Reacts To Bobrisky Winning 'Best Dressed Female' Award by Kaycee54321(m): 9:32am On Mar 28
Lol.

Funny thread.

Well, it depends on context...

Best dressed female could be open to anybody biologically born female (including/excluding hermaphrodites depending on superior gender exhibited physiologically).

Or

Best dressed female could be anything that has mass & occupies space, that happens to dress as a female... meaning that a German Shepherd dressed as a woman has every right to win.

Really depends on context and specifications for eligible candidates...

I sha fear for the future generations unborn.

I'll take natural braids whether cornrows or 'houseflies' or village princess hairdo or even full, uncombed, natural jagajaga hair on a woman over these plastic things anytime anyday.

Men like me don't even know which one is bone straight or which one currently sells at ₦300, 000 and above and we don't effing care!
Because, either we are totally indifferent to its value or we find it all disgusting.

Seconded Bruh.

Most ladies say they wear wigs because it's easier than brushing, plaiting, weaving their hair...and it protects their hair from breakage - can't fault their choices.

But I no just like wigs. Especially that hand movement when it's coming off the head to expose scalp covered in that nude coloured cap 😭

And then hung on a nail or over the head of a mannequin πŸ’”
