Banks don't charge on inflow but I have never used it before but will do soon, its only the foolish banks in Nigeria that have charged me like 58usd for within Nigeria and that's the bastard FCMB and Vetiva

Men I use to pay like 20 USD weekly for my former company but the payment was routed via payoneer who always told me that the deductions wasnt from them. Well when you do try it please let me know grin

I am not willing to date anyone 20 USD this crucial times

Skrill is no longer supported by Upworks

Payoneer got blocked because most of the freelance i use rarely used it, and also I find their customer service apalling, sent a mail and it took months to reply so written them off, any way I used my Zenith Salary Account and it's okay now, The last payment i did was $1 to 382 but yeah the rate is low now I think I will just wire to my dollar once i reach a large amount, I don't trust Payoneer at all their support and image is really bad.

Hello, have you used the Upwork wire transfer service before, if yes how much was their charges. I am just concerned that Incoming banks may charge additional 20 USD additional to the 30 USD charged by upwork. Because if those charges dont apply, then I'll gladly switch to wire transfer.

There is another website I saw that maybe some of you may check it out esp those in Information technology

https://weworkremotely.com/#intro And www.remoteok.io

Check it out and i wish you guys the best.

Yeah good sites, but only those with strong experience need apply. I've gotten a few interview invitations, from we work remotely, but I recently joined a start up via angelist. The opportunities are endless but they are mostly full time and will place a huge demand on your time.

Any idea on the current rate of Payoneer if I'm withdrawing from a Nigerian ATM and what are the procedures?

I don't have an idea about ATM rates, but it's usually around CBN official rates minus about 10 naira or so. You can try it and do the math yourself sha. Personally I don't use that card, except when I am purchasing items online where dollar is needed.

Jeez!

Upwork sent my funds to my Payoneer account just before I could snap myself to change my payment method to the local transfer method.

Here's it; This is my first receipt of funds on my Payoneer account since I got it in 2015. How do I go about withdrawal here in Nigeria?

Also, what's the current Payoneer withdrawal rate? Would you advise that I change from Payoneer to Local Transfer due to the exchange rate?

Well, it's good to check all the options you have. Depending on the amount you're withdrawing you can do your calculations on what will get to you finally and make your decisions from there. It's all about margin. As for me, exchangers are a no no for now until upwork rates change.

bro is the payment instant?

Nope it's not instant. But you can receive payment the same day if you make your request early enough. Made another withdrawal request early hours of Wednesday morning around 1am got credited around 8pm same day. Otherwise they would have credited me the next day. Not bad as long as my money is safe and my mind is at rest.

This should be very interesting. Sold @ ₦350 yesterday but the prospects aren't looking so good. If direct withdrawal would end up giving me even marginally less than exchangers, I'd rather embrace it considering it's inherent security.

Yes it's very interesting indeed. I made the withdrawal yesterday and as I type I was credited by GTB an hour ago. Apparently upwork does the conversion at a fair rate and do a direct deposit in Naira so no conversion fees or incoming fees by our greedy banks. I got exactly what I was expecting. Withdrew 256 USD got 94k in Naira to my savings account without the fear of scammers. You only pay 0.99USD withdrawal fees. With the current market trend this option is the safest and best for now until exchange rates sky rockets which really isn't good. With this trend Exchangers will have to up their prices or forget about upwork freelancers cash grin

However always check the current exchange rate as at the time of withdrawal. You can see this at the page just when you're trying to withdraw.

WriteBoy:
I have read this thread from beginning to end and I now see why clients avoid Nigerian freelancers like the bubonic plague: there are a lot of unserious people posturing as freelancers.

No one said it will be easy, no one said it's a walk in the park. Only those who are willing to commit sweat equity and toil to achieve mastery of a given field within this game can really smile.

I initially started out as a writer but I had to leave writing when I discovered that it would take me at least one more year of intense practise and study to up my skills to native speaker level.

I made a switch -- I moved into ecommerce. I watched videos, bought courses, made Shopify websites, learnt Ebay listing and management, made fun Woocommerce shops, studied Magento, payment systems, Customer service, ecommerce book keeping all within a period of six months. Six months of working 7x16 hours daily.

Today, I can beat my chest with confidence and say bring it on. Bring on any aspect of ecommerce and I will handle it.

I work 60 hours per week for two clients and earn $7 and $5 per hour respectively. The two gigs that I work are both long-term gigs that could end up lasting for years as the clients are reputable US ecommerce/finance startups.

Why are my sharing this here? Because I am appalled by the low mentality of my people. My people know that they have no skills and yet want to take jobs because of the money. My people are males yet use female profiles. My people are content with earning sporadically. Whether it is peanuts or substantial matters very little and that breaks my heart.

Anyone reading this: if you can, devote the next 18 months into building your craft. First try to secure a gig that would take care of your necessities before you take the plunge. When you find a gig that you are sure can feed you, clothe you, pay for your utilities and leave a little cash in your pocket, dive in. Then while working this gig, you can continue your learning on the side.

If you do this and make yourself worldclass, forget $100 gigs or whatnot, your skills will catch the attention of the major employers who will reward you beyond your wildest dreams. A Nigerian freelancer that I know is a customer support agent at Levis.com and Aircall.com -- she regularly makes over $40K per year working 50 hours per week.

How did she do it? She spent one year studying English and how to write and speak like a native speaker. This was back in 2015. Today, she is being rewarded handsomely for her efforts.

Be wise brethren and think big.

Freelancing contributed $235B to UK economy in 2016, $450Billion to Indian economy and close to $1Trillion to US economy also in 2016. We can all join hands to make freelancing bring $50Billion to Nigeria by 2025 at least.

Think big.

Thank you very much for this. This is what stagger has been saying since day one yet peeps wanted to eat him raw. Integrity does not depend on where you're from its about who you are.

People always want to earn cheap money. I resigned and went into freelancing full time because I saw potentials. Initially no one would hire me, then I got my big break on another platform, one year later I came back to upwork with a stellar profile. My current contract I was head hunted. My pay is the highest amongst all the freelancers working for the firm I have more responsibilities and my team is pleased with my work. I am still a Nigerian remember, with my real location and pictures. I recently had an interview with Microsoft, yeah Microsoft uses upwork as well so does several top enterprise clients because I've interviewed for some of them. Today if I don't get a role it won't be because of my heritage. I'll be a proud Nigerian any day and any where.

If we don't rebuild our mentality we will always feel inferior. Stop blaming people for your predicament and take responsibility for your destiny.

On the international stage what matters is what you bring to the table.

Thank you once again sir for this write up and to many others who have kept the Nigerian dream alive. We will get it right someday and we will get it the right way.

Whoa!

I'm elated...Made my first withdrawal from Upwork...Freelancing is sweet if you're armed with the requite skills and information.

Thanks to God for Nairalanders, especially, YOU. Yes, YOU! shocked

Looking forward to better days.

Meanwhile, Not sure I should pray for the appreciation of the dollar against the Naira or just remain passive. But God dey. wink grin

Congratulations!!

What method did you use to do your withdrawal?
I have tried all methods except the wire transfer method. The thought of losing 30 USD plus a potential 20 USD incoming fees at my bank is not funny.

With the crash in dollar payoneer seems a very bad option right now as these ecurrency exchangers will give you a crazy price.

Well I decided to try using the withdraw to local bank as it looks like the best option on paper at 369NGN/$ with less than $1 withdrawal fees. I'll update when the payment hits my account so you can compare and contrast.

However higher dollar rate looks good but the multiplier effect isn't funny as well. For the sake of our families and friends, the dollar should stabilize.

Me neither....i've sworn to die a christian!!

The Bible says do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, in this context your Christianity would be in question if you move ahead.

Also, you can go ahead because the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the believing husband, assuming you both were unbelievers before you became converted.

Now while you are a Christian, with your set values, remember she as a Muslim also sees you as an unbeliever. So imagine both of you in the same house seeing each other as the devil, because after marriage this love will clear and the pressures of society and your religion will set in.

Except your families are liberals who keep an open mind, I don't know how you're gonna decide on which marital procedure to follow...

The only logical thing to do is to walk away, or one of you will have to GENUINELY convert to the others religion, otherwise get ready for the issues ahead and be proactive about handling them if you both insist that there are no other fishes in the river...

If not for 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) on my LBC account earlier today, I would have been a victim of over $1800 BTC by now. One m0thefucking piece of sh!t Indian guy called my line with an Indian number and he claimed that he's an LBC staff and that he wants to ensure the security of my account is strong. He said that I need to call out codes sent to my line as text message which I did only to realize that it was Google password change authentication code.

Immediately I gave him the codes in the text message, I received SMS from Google that my phone number and my recovery email have been changed to this criminal's very own. Surprisingly he was still insisting that I give him my 2FA code, which he would definitely use to disable it from my account. I ended the call immediately but I felt that this guy really wants to try a Nigerian guy who's is universally acknowledged to be smarter when it comes to online fraud grin. I immediately called him again and started raining abuses on him in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba languages.

I then immediately called Google USA line and reported the hack attempt to them and voila, they helped me recover my email login credentials. Turning over to LBC account, this idiot has already reset my password to something else but he actually couldn't login there as there were about 10 messages showing login attempts failure on my dashboard. What saved me was I have 2FA enabled on my account.

I quickly changed my passwords to something more complex. I strongly recommend that if you're still not using 2FA security feature on LBC or any of your Bitcoin wallets, kindly start doing so today. More than 99% of hack attempts can be prevented using this 2FA security system.
You were nearly a victim of social engineering....

It's better to receive it into your dorm account, and that's with a 30% of the amount you are receiving gone.

After that to get your money is war, most banks will tell you you can not withdraw from a transfer dorm account eg Zenith., that you can only transfer or pay for things online.

Then if you want it directly into your Normal account you will still pay for it, then the bank eg zenith will give you #310/$

Transfer Dorm account as in what.

I have been receiving funds from my company via Payoneer for over a year and I withdraw USD cash over the counter from GTB PH.

That 30 USD by upwork is my biggest issue yet, then GTB will take another 20 USD per transfer.

Skrill can go to hell, they just blocked my account for no reason even if I was fully verified.

The Upwork exchange rate seems fair considering they aren't using black market rates. 369NGN/$1 as at today. Although I have not tried it, but I will if these Exchangers start doing too much shakara. For now I use Payoneer and sell to Exchangers at a fair rate.
