Education / Ow A UNIZIK Student Proposed To His Girl Friend In The Bus by Kayleon: 1:41am On Jun 07, 2017
How a UNIZIK Student Proposed to His Girl Friend in the Bus

Kosi and Chime were what you would call the craziest pair of friends, they had grown from being acquaintances to being really close and could act out all they want, anywhere and when they wanted to. You know that kind of friend that you both could cook up one silly idea and go on and act it out with.
So today, they were in the bus going from Eke Awka to School gate when Kosi flipped out a ring box and Chime jokingly said "what if there is a ring inside the Box and you propose to me with it?

Kosi took the joke serious and good enough there was a ring in the box and like a Scene out of a Romantic movie, right there in the bus, he popped the question, "Will you marry me", With surprise written all over her, She burst out laughing.
Ermmm Ladies and gentlemen in this bus, please help me ask this Pretty Lady beside me if she will be my wife? He said,
Nigerians with their Aproko nature started commenting, some were even clapping for them
Baby say yes now
Chai, see her she is blushing
Look at how she is laughing, she must be very happy.

Ok, Yes, Chime exclaimed.
That was how the bus people began to cheer and book wedding card and Seat with Asoebi, even giving marriage advice on top.

That was one big joke but it happened but then it was a joke.
Hope you don't pull it off on someone.
So let me give you a tip for April fools days, you can do it to someone but make sure both of you understand yourselves well enough so someone doesn't break your head when She finds out its a joke.
Don't say I told you.
*in Jenifa's voice* I am mindeding my bizness.

Chai! Handsome UNIZIK Student Dies In Fatal Accident

Nigerians and the act of rushing and consequently breaking of law are like Siamese twins. We are always in a hurry and as such hastly choose to break rules that were made to keep us safe.

This was how this particular student lost his life at Unizik junction some days ago. From the information I gathered, he was crossing the highway and instead of using the pedestrian bridge above like it is the norm for many Nigerians in their nature of rushing, but this day was an unfortunate day for this Unizik student. There an automobile on high speed hit him and crushed life out of him.

From pictures circulating, the car or bike or whatever that hit him must have been on a very high speed as the victim though at that time was unidentified was dismembered (sighing, "may his gentle soul rest in peace!"wink.
And most probably the car didn't have a headlight or it failed a brake or something could have gone wrong at either ends.

Source: http://www.campuspunch.com/chai-handsome-unizik-student-dies-in-fatal-accident
The student in question was later identified as Mr Lawson, who was studying Building Technical Education. this a great loss for his Family, course mates and the entire UNIZIK community.

My dear fellow Nigerian sudents don't risk your life for anything, its better to be late alive than go early to the grave.
Risk is only worth taking when your life is not threatened.
So let's be wise and let the need for self preservation beyond every other reason be the guide of our actions.
Rules and laws are meant to guide us to safety and most times as human beings, we tend to overlook that which was made for us.

I will still say, be wise and be alive!

According to news from The Guardian, the Institute of African Studies, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has scheduled May 22-25, 2017 to hold discussions on the life and times of the late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe, to remember him four years after his death.

Director of the Institute, Prof. Emeka Nwabueze, stated that the event would provide an renewed opportunity to remember the life and creative abilities of late Prof. Achebe as a literary colossus, four years after his demise.

Nwabueze told newsmen at the institute that the African icon and a crucial personality in the life of the University wuld deserve more than what he got from his burial and that the Institute of african Studies was ready to correct that.

Nwabueze said: “Achebe from the institute’s perspective was not accorded befitting burial as a world class author and one who used his literally works to promote African tradition and culture.

“As Igbo people who believe in four days of “Orie, Afor, Nkwo and Eke,” we felt that the right thing to do is to give this natural Igbo phenomenon four years before celebrating him. We are in the “Eke” of Chinua Achebe’s death and we are determined to correct the short-comings during burial and that is why we are rolling out drums to celebrate him.”

The Director recalled to his listeners how the Senior research follow of the Institute used to produce world dazzling literary contributions from his second floor of the Hansberry building.

“It was in this office that this great writer hibernated, ruminated, poured his ideas on papers, took snacks, received visitors and generated his official correspondence. As a research fellow of the institute, he contributed to the growth and success of the institute,” he said.

The director also added co-chair the occassion would be Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Maj.-Gen. Ike Nwachukwu along side other personalities who are expected to grace the commemoration such as Governors Willy Obiano of Anambra State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State.

The highlight of the four-day event will consist the official opening of Chinua Achebe’s office, which was last opened in 1990 when he celebrated his 60th birthday.

Education / Unizik Finally Elects An Sug President After 3 Years Ban by Kayleon: 3:29pm On May 28, 2017
UNIZIK FINALLY ELECTS AN SUG PRESIDENT AFTER 3 YEARS BAN

It was like the long awaited arrival of an overdue baby, The atmosphere in the School before the elections was a bit expectant.
Since 2014 the Students Union Government Elections was suspended and the incumbent Excos carried on for a 2 year term.
Finally on the 30th of January , elections were conducted for the post of SUG president and the departmental Student Representative Council members.
Other posts were not contested for because they ran unopposed.

Source: http://www.campuspunch.com/unizik-finally-elects-an-sug-president-after-3-years-ban
The race between Chime Ransome and Nwambu Nwabueze was keenly contested but on a largely free and fair manner with Nwambu emerging the winner with more than 2000 votes as against Ransome's 1500 votes.

With Nwambu declared winner, the swearing in was conducted on the 3rd of February at the SUG Giant House bringing Unizik students back again into the era of having a voice.

I would say the School Authorities were Skeptical about lifting the ban because of the difficulty they encountered in the hands of the Last SUG president who literally took it upon himself to question all school polices that he felt were not beneficial to Students.
This earned him a Suspension from office and from School and the ban on all elections and the Rest.

But what can democracy be without public opinion, especially in a School like this.
So once more, the Stalemate has been straightened.
We now have a voice but I think its quite a low one at that.
Tommorow will tell how strong and representative the administration will be.
We pray it doesn't become a puppet of the school authority, but a Strong voice for the welfare of Students.
Till then, fingers are crossed.

Education / Unilorin Students Stubbornly Refuse To Resume 2nd Semester by Kayleon: 4:51pm On May 27, 2017
Unilorin Students Stubbornly Refuse to Resume 2nd Semester

Unilorin Students seem to have taken the law in their hands defying any order of early school resumption
and have refused to resume for second semester. Why is the mood of the students heated
and what does it portend for them?

It was just like yesterday Unilorin students wrote their first semester exams. After a long and tiring first semester, most of the student of the university of ilorin have refused to resume the second semester (rain).

Source: www.campuspunch.com/unilorin-students-stubbornly-refuse-to-resume-2nd-semester
Many Unilorin students are complaining that the semester break was very short, and that after using a very long period of time in the school and away from there family and friends for the first time, they were given just one week break.

Most 100level Unilorin students who I tried talking to about when they were going to resume, all gave similar responses, that they would resume finally after Easter, even the Muslims gave the same response. I mean it is that serious.

Today I was just browsing through my whatsapp and I was amazed with the image that was shared on My department group chat - industrial relations and personnel management of the faculty of management science 100L whatsapp group- I have never seen the walkway that free of people before, it was the true definition of lifeless. The whatsapp group student advisors have been urging the students to resume as soon as possible, because as history as it in the university of ilorin the second semester is always filled with different kinds of activities which tends to sway students away from there studies.

What do you think? Let's get back to school or Nay?

Education / Funaab Nasu And Ssanu Clash In Opposing Rallies For Suspended Vc by Kayleon: 9:11pm On May 24, 2017
FUNAAB NASU and SSANU Clash in Opposing Rallies For Suspended VC

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB Abeokuta, on Tuesday, entered a cash where each group was favouring and opposing the continued reluctance of the FUNAAB Vice -Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, to exit his position as the school's V.C. This event is coming after the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu issued the suspension of the V.C Oyewole.

The suspension order was conveyed in a letter, dated May 8, 2017, and signed by the acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Hussaini Adamu.

The letter of suspension was delivered to Oyewole on Thursday.

The letter, which was sighted by the press, directed the embattled VC, whose tenure ends on May 23, 2017, to hand over the affairs of the institution to the most senior staff member in the institution.

Oyewole had, last Friday, in compliance with the suspension order by the ministry, handed over to Prof. Oluyemisi Eromosele, the Deputy VC, Academics, who is the most senior academic member of staff.

The suspended VC, however, shocked the institution’s workers and students on Monday when he resurfaced in the university and headed for his former office, where he began to perform official functions undeterred.

However, things took a different twist on Tuesday when members of NASU and SSANU gathered separately within the campus to express their support for and opposition to the embattled VC respectively.

The NASU members converged on the open space in front of the Senate building to list and sing the achievements of Oyewole while condemning his suspension by the education minister.

SSANU, comprising the senior non-academic staff members, organised what they called ‘celebration of the inglorious exit of Oyewole’ at its secretariat also located within the campus.

A musician was on hand to dish out various songs with members dancing, while fried bean cakes and hot pap were served to members and guests.

The chairman of SSANU, FUNAAB chapter, Olurotimi Fasuwon, while addressing journalists, said, “The event is organised to coincide with the shameful end and unceremonious exit of Prof. Oyewole as the vice-chancellor of our once-glorious university and to give a dossier of the backwardness which he brought upon the university.”

Fasuwon alleged that Oyewole’s tenure had brought anguish to the workers and had set the university back by more than 10 years.

“The university had over the years, enjoyed love, joy and happiness among the various categories of staff. They now live in fear, hate and distrust courtesy of Prof. O. B. Oyewole,” the union leader stated.

But the NASU chairman in the university, Isiaq Odunjo, absolved Oyewole of any misdeed.

Odunjo said NASU organised the rally to condemn the suspension of the VC, describing it as an illegality.

He described the action of the Minister of Education as hijacking the responsibility of the university’s Governing Council, adding that the said letter “is a manifestation of executive lawlessness and abuse of office on the part of the minister.”
