Good day. For those still having challenges uploading their passport photographs and other issues with the site. The solution is to resize your passport photographs to 600×600 px and 5×5cm and then change your browser to Google Chrome or UC browser. Then try and upload again. The site is not friendly with Internet Explorer. For those that are qualified for any of the advertized positions, I beg you in the name of Almighty God try and apply before it closes. Don't listen to the Pessimists, they are mostly not qualified that's why they are trying to discourage others. I know over 500 people that didn't know anyone before going through NNPC recruitment and are since working in NNPC. Recruitment on merit do exist in that corporation and they are the only organization in Nigeria that employ people enmass up to 1000 people. Just prepare as best as you can because you are competing thousand other people from your state. I say goodluck to everyone . 2 Likes |

Olsbby: It can take up to that if you wait for everything to come in the mail. What you can do is to do work-in service. Go to the office in person where birth certificate is issued in Virginia . You can get it in one day. Thereafter book an appointment at Passport office and also go in person, that can also be gotten within two days as long as it falls within two weeks of your travel. By then your SSN would have arrived in the mail. Got my LO's SSN in 12 working days, that's like 2 weeks 2 days. Then you can visit Nigerian immigration website on details of how to get approval for VOA. Everything can be done within 2-3 weeks. Good luck. 2 Likes |

Chanbaby: Good day Chanbaby, so sorry I have mot heard time to get to this forum in the past week. I noticed you have got approval for your baby's VOA Application. That's enough for you to board. Don't bother yourself on the online application for VOA, just make sure you have a printed copy of the approval and a visa card to pay when you land in Naija. There are so many ambiguities in that form that you can easily lose your money paid online. As for me I paid with my Bank of America card when I landed in Lagos so I think you should just do the same and stop botgering yourself with the online application. Note I love doing all my things online if it's more convenient and most of the time it is but ib this case, their instructions alone is enough to keep you off. Congratulations to you that they replied you within 48hrs, in my case I got a reply 2 days to my departure date after over10 days that I applied. Good luck. And congrats on tge arrival of your LO. 1 Like |

teehey: Good day, this question was not directed to me but I had same experience around the same period and I can answer your question. I am sure the sister eventually got her VOA Approval letter reply from NIS. If you sent a mail and you didn't get a reply or an acknowledgement, try and call their mobile numbers. I guess NIS had a lot of people calling them at that period, so they were replying close to when your flight is but you will definitely get the approval letter before you leave. As per online application and payment, you may apply and pay before you leave US or pay when you land at Lagos but just ensure you have a working card ready as they say it's illegal to pay with cash (as stated on their website). Good luck. |

PreciousNenye: Congratulations PreciousNenye. I only have recent experience of Houston TX not Atlanta Georgia but I guess the process is similar. First google a place in Atlanta to get your baby boy's birth certificate (I guess your hospital must have sent the birth details with your baby's name to the birth certificate office). Don't bother doing online services or waiting for mails. Go for walk-in services, you can get the certificate that same day. Afterwards go to US Passport online site to book an appointment for your baby's US passport. Again, go to the office in person to apply(with all the necessary docs:birth certificate, Social security numbers if available, a passport photo of your boy, expedited fee etc). You can get the US Passport between 1-2 days. For Visa on Arrival, send them an email, I think oa@nigeriaimmigration.com(pls confirm the email) to request for Approval letter for VOA. This letter is what you can use to board when going back to Naija. Then apply for VOA on Nigeria immigration website and pay the required amount. You will get the VOA when you land in Naija. Please don't forget to add your baby boy to your itinerary back to Naija ASAP. Good luck. 4 Likes |

Njay100: I am not sure about doing scanning. But depending on your airliner, you need to show your 'fit to fly' memo if you are more than 28 weeks gone before you can be allowed to board. No need to lie about your weeks in the memo if you are not more than 36 weeks pregnant. Good luck. 1 Like |

Hawttattoo: How long are you staying? If you are staying close to 4 to 5 weeks, then living expenses(feeding and transportation) of $1,500 for 4 ppl is on the low side(Prepare $500-1000 per month). You didn't also mention if you are traveling for just vacation only or there will be childbirth. You need to add childbirth-related expenses if childbirth is part of your travel purposes depending on whether it's CS or VAG. The budget is generally low for the new generation US interview purpose. Good day folk, just to give back to this forum. My family and I landed in Houston Texas yesterday at precisely 4.05pm(11.05pm Nigerian time) on Emirates Airlines. Firstly, for those that need 'fit to fly' to travel to the US ensure you insist that your Dr states clearly your EDD on the letter as some Airlines(including Emirates) have some unwritten rules pertaining the letter now.If the EDD is not reflected on your 'fit to fly', make sure you have a very recent ultrasound scan to back the letter or have your Dr's mobile number handy to avoid being disallowed from embarking the aircraft. Again, get to the airport early to avoid unnecessary pressure and to create enough time for scrutiny by the airliners. On getting to IAH Houston POE, the following ensued: Me: Good day CBP Officer: Passport Me: Forwarded my family passports CBP Officer: How many of you? Me: 5 CBP Officer: Ok CBP Officer: Why are you here? Me: For vacation and childbirth CBP Officer: Looks at my wife, your wife is pregnant right? Me: Yes CBP Officer: You have family here right? Me: No CBP Officer: How much do you have with you? Me: XYZ Dollars cash, ABC Dollars in card CBP Officer: Where do you work? Me: DEF company in Nigeria CBP Officer: How long have you been there? Me: 13 years CBP Officer: What's the company into? Me: It's into ..... CBP Officer: You have been here before? Is this their first time(pointing to my family)? Me:Yes I have been here over 10 times, was here in August. No my wife and first two children were here before, the last is coming for the first time CBP Officer: Are you coming to live here? Me: No CBP Officer: How long will you be here? Me: 5 weeks CBP Officer: Ok, four fingers on the scanner. My passport alongside my children's were stamped in for 6months after matching their passports with them one after the other. He then called my wife to fourprint her fingers. Afterwards, he gave me my children'spassports and my passport to me and told my wife to step aside while we should go and wait for her. We waited for 2 hours downstairs before she appeared. She was taken for secondary scrutiny. She said her interview was not more 5 minutes but people were many in the room. From her experience there, it's very important to have a believable story. One woman was about to be returned to Nigeria because her story was somehow awkward and easily faultable. The woman agreed that she is pregnant when asked but her return ticket is 25th December meanwhile she has about 12 weeks before her EDD. When asked if she intends to deliver in USA, she said she may if she enters labour before leaving. Another woman came with 3 children, one of them a US Citizen. She forgot her Zero balance and Itemized bills in Nigeria. Though they eventually stamped her in , but they warned her to never forget to travel with it next time. Another Permanent Resident was also taken for secondary interview because he has gone out of America for long. It's obvious that the Officers have stiffened up than before due to the Top Stance to Birth Tourism. I wish everyone preparing to come or preparing for Visa Interview all the very best but preparation and overpreparation is extremely imperative. 3 Likes |

Madriel: Good evening, just like Ruthina000 tried to point out there is really nothing bad in trying birth center. They try to simulate a normal home environment and all, and people have successfully used them for birthing. They also have experienced midwives, ultrasound scanning machines and other tools for ante natal purposes. The downside is that they are not as sophisticated and equipped as a hospital. Which means in case of any complications during birthing, you will have to be rushed to the nearest hospital which they usually have agreements with. Talking from experience actually, used the center in 2013. And they are not all that cheap either. Paid $4100 in 2013 and that amount could have easily been used at WHMC. It's all about options weighing. Another downside is refusal because of birth center. So Madriel please weigh your options well before making decision. I apologize to Ruthina000 on behalf of Sparkle. Let's not castigate one another for giving one's opinion please. No one knows it all. And people learn from the diverse opinions and suggestions. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Sorry for the mixup bro. I guess I have forgotten. I think you should just diplomatically put the reason the VO gave for the denial. Moreover VOs are different. I pray she meets a more considerate VO this time. And if you are leaving your kid(s) behind because of ties, make sure she has an answer for who will take care of the baby when you people are in the USA. Again I wish you and your wife best of luck. 1 Like |

Phakabir06: It depends on the reason they gave for the denial. I remember she told the VO it's a high risk pregnancy. That's a red flag. With that you need to show that you have enough fund to foot bill of a high risk pregnancy especially if the cost skyrockets. You also need to get Dr's appointment/ correspondence before you go for the interview again. My personal opinion please. Good luck bro. See you in January if you are Texas-bound. |

No that's not what I meant. Before you can be allowed in to be interviewed, you need to show evidence of Visa payment, DS 160 confirmation and appointment confirmation. If you are called for a follow-up interview, they usually give you options of date to choose from on your profile. The appointment option they provided for me was for just one person(me), so I thought that will suffice for my family because the letter says we should come as a family. Only to get there for my family to be denied entrance into the interview arena. I don't want any other people going as a family to make the same assumption I made. |

Seyeedat: Keep hopes alive. People will still get their visas approved even till year 2019. We did our interview on Monday, 29th October after being called for a follow-up interview (sequel to Dropbox application) and they were approved. Just make sure you have a genuine case, they hardly even ask for documents these days. Some were approved and some were denied on that day. In fact there was another person that came for a 221g appointment and still got denied. The lessons learnt from my own experience at the center: If you are called for a follow-up interview along with your family, ensure you have appointment for every member of the group. Ensure you are abreast of all the info in your application and your travel history(international passport). Best of luck to those that have not gone for their visa interviews. 5 Likes |

margaretp: Boredom is not a good thing really. It depends on your frequency of Mall going or Walmart going and how much you budgeted for transportation. There are many shops around Sugarland that you can visit for your needs depending on the part of Sugarland you are. Most of the Malls(Katy Mills Mall, Memorial Mall, Houston Premium Outlet etc) are not close to Sugarland. However if you really want to visit Malls to while away some time, my best advice for you is to rent a car from some of our Nigerian guys that offer the service(I can connect you with one of them if you wish). It's extremely cheaper than Uber and Lyft. Instead of carrying Uber for $60 per trip to the mall. You can rent a car gor $150/week. And you can use uour Nigerian driver's licence without hassles. All you need to get is to hang your phone google map in front of you and it (google) will take you to wherever you want to go. Good luck 4 Likes |

demiiii: I will advise you to be as honest as possible at POE. If the ticket you bought doesn't jive with how long you claim you want to stay, the officer might suspect foul play and you know what that means. So what I think you can do is to allow your kids to be done with their exam this term by early December. You still have 6 months before visa expiration (besides it's your International Passport that must have 6 months validity). When you are going, prepare your correspondences, budget sheet and your zero balance. Then buy a ticket that reflects March or after your EDD.Tell the CPB officer at POE that you came for vacation and childbirth and your EDD is March so that he can stamp you in to cover the period of childbirth.

I think expedited appointment is usually given when the dates really show that she needs it. For instance if her EDD is December and her appointment is January. But if her EDD is still ahead of the appointment, I don't know. But you can still give it a try. As per applying for B2, I think it's better to apply for B1/B2 because it's usually conjoined. It's only at POE that they specify if it's B1 or B2 based on what you told them you came for. I wish you best of luck. |

Good day bro. I will advise you have your old DS160 form with you when filling another form so that all info tallies. Since you mention your cousin in the first form ,you may still do same now and emphasize that she will stay with him till you join her for the delivery. Again you can add your BofA account balance with your Nigerian Bank(s) balance as part of your cash. Wherever it's coming from; yours or your wife's, add everything because you need to show this time that you are ready for any eventuality as per hospital bills since you had already mentioned that your wife's pregnancy is high risk. It means if all your proposed expenses is 18K in your budget sheet, ensure you have account balances of like 28K. I wish you all the very best in the next interview. |

chism440: I sympathize with you on this. But the fact is your American citizen can't travel to US alone and your visa has been revoked. I advise you go and find out more on the reason for refusal and how long it will take to reapply. If it's 6 months and above , you have to decide maybe your boy can wait that long before having the surgery or not. If not, research specialist hospital in Nigeria or outside Nigeria(apart from America) that can handle the case. You will eventually get your Visa back but you have to calm down , think through the whole thing and do what's best for your ill son. I think the VO are stricter than ever before, probably because of new directives. I wish you best of luck in your decision. 2 Likes |
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by KennyMKO: 3:51pm On Sep 27, 2018 |
Phakabir06: Sorry about your wife's visa refusal and congratulations on yours. Let me outline the probable points I see from all your writeup so far that perhaps led to the refusal: 1. Whenever you are interviewing and you mention high risk pregnancy or complicated pregnancy, the next thing VO will be looking at is your budget sheet. You need to have enough Miscellaneous(like having more than $10K extra) just in case of any unexpected medical bills which can skyrocket because of any small complications in the US. 2. I think they prefer the husband to travel with their pregnant wife especially if there is no relative in the US. So when the husband does not have US Visa covering the period of birthing or the husband just did drop box or about to do drop box, they either put your wife's application on administrative processing or some VO do outright refusal. So always ensure you have renewed your own US Visa through drop box or otherwise before going for your wife's interview (Talking from experience). 3. Maybe the VO didn't think it through to realize that your wife was not pregnant when the first visa was given. About ties leaving your son or taking him with you , I don't think changes the ties. Ties refers to either close relative at home and/or your high paying job. Being a CBN senior staff is enough tie to Nigeria (especially if the VO sees your total annual emoluments). I wish you and your wife best of luck in the next interview. Please read the threads well and incorporate good advice from this thread into your next interview preparation. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Career / Re: Masters Or Stay On Job? by KennyMKO: 5:58pm On May 03, 2016 |
My guy you have got brilliant reactions to your question so far ; let me just add a few words. I was in your shoes like 7 years ago but I eventually got my MSc Pet Eng through study leave/ Leave of absence after working for 5 years (in 2010). So what I am trying to say is the best is to defer the admission while trying to apply for Study Leave in your company. The advantages of this decision are: 1. You will somehow still have your job when things don't turn as you planned in Canada (Things are generally tough worldwide now in the oil industry) 2. You would have acquired enough experience to make your MSc studies very interesting / enjoyable and also provide you with foresight to know the program/ Thesis to pursue that will boost and enhance your current responsibilities and career in the oil industry 3. You would have saved more dough, evaluated your risk better and also seen some certainties about this uncertain crude oil price because it affects world's economics dynamics. Remember that due to this low oil price, many oil industry professionals have lost their jobs and still losing. In fact Canada is one of the worst hit economies in the world. I know a colleague that left one of the oil companies 10 years ago to pursue a Phd program abroad, it's now like 5 years after he had got the degree and things are still not easy (even lecturing job). He just got a part time job with a small oil servicing company last year and the job is shaky as we speak due to low oil price. Again another thing guys are resorting to is to go for online degrees, you only visit (US, UK, Canada or wherever your school is) once in a while without leaving your job. It's only after one finishes these degrees and back in job market that one realizes the essence of having a good job. Please take your time, think it through, pray about it and make your decision. May God guide you. Best of luck. 5 Likes |
Family / Re: My Husband Is Killing Me Emotionaly, How Do I Deal With Him by KennyMKO: 11:10am On Sep 05, 2015 |
Sorry about the predicament Angel. Over 80% of married women had gone through the situation at one point in their lifetime. So you are not alone and some of them had come out of it successfully without breaking up their marriage and I'm hopeful you too will by God's grace. Abandoning your marriage or paying your husband back in his own coins would only get things worse and will definitely affect your children adversely if not you. One of the reasons this kind of things happen is because of the way human minds work. The human mind appreciates things best when it has not possessed that thing or when it has los it. And that's what affects over 90% of men during the course of their lives. The fact that a man married the most beautiful lady in this world does not mean he can't be distracted by another lady or other ladies. The following are my suggestions: # The most important thing is to GO TO ALMIGHTY GOD. Pray, pray and pray. Pray for God to deliver of him of the spirit. Some men don't plan to cheat on their wives but they just find themselves involved one way or the other. It's not easy stopping once he has started so he needs both physical and spiritual help. He too needs to be ready to stop anyway. # Don't keep your bitterness to yourself so that you don't get chronic disease called 'Depression' . Try and devise a good communication channel to talk to your husband and appeal to his conscience. Patiently advise him with modesty and with all the emotional intelligence skills you've got. Remind him of the consequences of these extra marital relationships on your kids. Appeal to him using his religion, no religion encourages adultery or fornication. # Advise him to stay away from immoral websites and bad influences/ friends. He should try and be ignoring the calls of those girls because they will keep pestering him even if he wishes to stop. He should be firm and fill his spare time with his positive passions and games. # Try and dress and smell well even if you are at home. Some ladies don't take care of themselves again because they are married. Be appealing to him at all times in terms of your appearance. # Keep anything females to the minimum in your home: sisters, friends, maids etc. Employ male or old women as maids if possible. If not warn and watch your female maids to refrain from wearing seductive dresses. Remember, Men are moved by sight while Women are moved by words. # While he is trying to stop the affairs, just like others have advised, go for tests to know your status and guard your status jealously and remind him too to guard his to avoid stories that touch. # Attitude is everything. Be a good wife and mother in order not to push him away. Remember that 'Marriage is a relationship between two imperfect people trying to make it work' . And it's the one of the best relationship created and encouraged by God. So give it your everything you've got. Never abandon your marriage because it might be your best. It's when you leave your marriage for another that you will appreciate the one you left and realize that this issue is not really a big issue if it's diplomatically handled. Best of luck in your union. It's well with your family. |

Salam alaykum warahmatulah brothers and sisters. Thank you Empiree for the clarification. May Allah guide us. Just as Empiree has noted through Quranic evidences, it's believed that the original hadith meant 'calf of sculptures' for worship purpose. Wallahu aalam. If it were to be pictures, all of us today would have erred because you have to snap passport for school, bank, visa and other purposes which don't have anything to do with worshipping of idols. Meanwhile let's learn to argue constructively so that people can learn. No need to use foul words in argue your case especially as a Muslim. Many people are watching our conduct, remember.
