Computers / List Of Mac Keyboard Shortcuts by kenshaz(m): 7:00pm On Mar 16, 2020
By pressing certain key combinations, you can do things that normally need a mouse, trackpad, or other input device.MacBook owners have a number of tools that come in very handy for using their laptops efficiently and for maintaining the operating system to keep it running in top shape. These MacBook keyboard shortcuts for the Finder, a maintenance checklist, and a “translation” of the modifier keys will speed you on your way to becoming a MacBook power user.

To use a keyboard shortcut, press and hold one or more modifier keys and then press the last key of the shortcut. For example, to use Command-C (copy), press and hold the Command key, then the C key, then release both keys. Mac menus and keyboards often use symbols for certain keys, including modifier keys:

Command (or Cmd) ⌘
Shift ⇧
Option (or Alt) ⌥
Control (or Ctrl) ⌃
Caps Lock ⇪
Fn

On keyboards made for Windows PCs, use the Alt key instead of Option, and the Windows logo key instead of Command.

Some keys on some Apple keyboards have special symbols and functions, such as for display brightness , keyboard brightness , Mission Control, and more. If these functions aren’t available on your keyboard, you might be able to reproduce some of them by creating your own keyboard shortcuts. To use these keys as F1, F2, F3, or other standard function keys, combine them with the Fn key.

Business / Oil Extends Gains As U.S. Output Cut Hopes Grow by kenshaz(m): 4:07pm On Mar 16, 2020

TOKYO (Reuters) – Oil prices climbed for a second day on Wednesday as hopes U.S. producers would cut output lent support, but gains were capped by growing doubts about Washington’s stimulus package to fight the coronavirus, which continues to spread globally.

Brent crude futures rose $1.26, or 3.4%, to $38.48 a barrel by 0418 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained $0.91, or 2.7%, to $35.27 a barrel.

They have recouped nearly a half of the Monday’s 25% loss, which was triggered by the clash of oil titans Saudi Arabia and Russia.

“Expectations that U.S. shale oil producers will need to trim output helped improve the market sentiment,” said Satoru Yoshida, a commodity analyst with Rakuten Securities.

U.S. shale producers, including Occidental Petroleum, deepened spending cuts that could reduce production after crude prices slumped to their lowest levels in more than three years.

Oil and equity markets staged solid rebounds on Tuesday after the previous day’s pummeling, on signs of co-ordinated action by the world’s biggest economies to cushion the economic impact of the epidemic.

But growing scepticism about Washington’s stimulus package knocked the steam out of an earlier rally in Asian shares on Wednesday. [MKTS/GLOB]

The fast-spreading coronavirus also weighed on investor risk appetite. The death toll in Italy due to the virus jumped to 631, while China’s new cases rose for the first time in five days as infected individuals arrived from overseas.

“The rebound in crude oil is not expected to last long, with Saudi and Russia boasting about how much they can boost output by as the battle for market share begins,” ANZ said in a note.

Saudi Arabia said on Tuesday it would boost its oil supplies to a record high in April, raising the stakes in a standoff with Russia and effectively rebuffing a suggestion from Moscow for new talks on production levels.

“Saudi had failed to boost its market share when it temporarily raised output in 2014 as U.S. shale oil producers showed stronger tolerance to tanking oil prices due to improved efficiency, underlining Saudi’s limited influence as a swing producer,” Ito Mashino, an analyst at Mitsui & Co. Global Strategic Studies Institute, said.

“Still, the breakdown of the latest round of OPEC+ talks won’t mean the end of OPEC+ framework…their actions will depend on oil prices,” she said.

U.S. crude oil inventories rose in the most recent week, while gasoline and distillate stocks dropped, data from industry group the American Petroleum Institute showed on Tuesday

Celebrities / Hollywood Rapist Harvey Weinstein Jailed For 23 Years by kenshaz(m): 8:45pm On Mar 15, 2020
By AFP

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault Wednesday, capping a sensational downfall for the once-powerful producer in a landmark case for the #MeToo movement.

Weinstein, who turns 68 next week, faces spending the rest of his life behind bars after New York Justice James Burke rebuffed his pleas for the minimum five-year sentence.

The judge, issuing a heavy term close to the maximum 29 years allowed, was unmoved by a rambling statement Weinstein made to the court in which he failed to express any remorse for his actions or apologize to victims.

“I’m totally confused,” Weinstein said, before blaming the #MeToo global reckoning against men abusing positions of power for his predicament.

“I was the first example and now there are thousands of men being accused. I’m worried about this country,” he added.

The sentencing completed a dramatic fall from grace for the titan-turned-pariah, who lost much of his $150 million fortune fighting allegations that surfaced in October 2017.

Nearly 90 women, including Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, have come forward alleging 40 years of vile predatory behavior by the Oscar-winning producer of “Shakespeare in Love” and numerous other critical and box office hits.

The Silence Breakers — a group of 24 Weinstein accusers that includes Ashley Judd, Rosanna Arquette and Rose McGowan — said Weinstein’s legacy would always be his rape conviction.

“He is going to jail — but no amount of jail time will repair the lives he ruined, the careers he destroyed, or the damage he has caused,” they said in a statement.

Weinstein was taken away from the Manhattan criminal court in a wheelchair as the six accusers who testified at his trial, including actress Annabella Sciorra of “The Sopranos,” hugged in the front row.

Members of the public clapped as the accusers and prosecutors walked out of the courtroom.

‘No longer hiding’

Weinstein was found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree on February 24. His lawyers have appealed.

Seven men and five women convicted him of raping ex-actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and of forcibly performing MouthAction on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006.

Mann, 34, and Haleyi, 42, delivered powerful victim impact statements Wednesday.

Haleyi said being attacked by Weinstein had “diminished my confidence and faith in people.”

Mann said his conviction had given her the strength to rebuild her life.

“My monsters are no longer hiding in my closet,” she told the court.

The producer — famous for his hard-nosed approach to work and Oscars campaigns — was cleared of the most serious charges of predatory sexual assault, as well as rape in the first degree.

But prosecutors called on Burke to issue a lengthy jail term, saying Weinstein engaged in a “lifetime of abuse” and had shown “a total lack of remorse” for his actions.

In a pre-sentencing letter, the prosecution asked the judge to consider 36 other sexual abuse and harassment allegations against Weinstein dating back to the 1970s that were not part of the trial.

“He held all cards and played them at his will,” lead prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon said in court.

Weinstein’s team suggested Burke should take into account the achievements of a man whose films received more than 300 Oscar nominations and 81 statuettes.

“His life story, his accomplishments, and struggles are simply remarkable and should not be disregarded in total because of the jury’s verdict,” the lawyers wrote in a pre-sentencing memo.

Weinstein also pleaded with Burke that he may never see his five children again, the youngest two of whom are under ten years old.

Weinstein’s counsel regularly clashed with Burke during the trial, even claiming at one point that he was biased against their client.

‘On notice’

Afterwards, lead attorney Donna Rotunno suggested the intense media coverage of the trial had meant the judge “probably felt a type of pressure” to send a message.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr thanked the court for putting “sexual predators on notice” and praised his accusers “indescribable courage” throughout the case.

“Their words took down a predator and put him behind bars, and gave hope to survivors of sexual violence all across the world,” he said in a statement.

Outside court, celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, who represents Sciorra and Haleyi, gleefully held up a sign that read “20 + 3 years,” the sentences Weinstein received for each count.

Tarale Wulff, who testified that Weinstein raped her when she was a cocktail waitress, expressed joy that the sentence was more than she expected.

“For the first time I can say I feel a sense of happiness,” Wulff told reporters.

Weinstein is expected to be incarcerated outside New York City.

Shortly after his sentencing, prosecutors in Los Angeles said they had “begun the process of extraditing” Weinstein to the Californian city where he faces further sex crimes charges.

Travel / These Are Top 10 Most Dangerous Countries To Visit by kenshaz(m): 10:41am On Aug 17, 2019
The joy of traveling is one of the greatest joys. Witnessing another culture, exploring, and going on adventures in new lands is one of the best ways to experience life. Traveling gives you new eyes to see the world in, and truly expands your knowledge base. I personally look to take every chance I can get to travel. In this day and age, we see people traveling many places on social media and we get curious. However, there are some parts of the world that are just not ready to be seen comfortably.

1. Pakistan
The Pakistani government and intelligence agencies have a track record of working against the US government. The country is home to many terrorist training camps, including ISIS and the Taliban. I would avoid the area completely.

2. Nigeria
Ever heard of Boko Haram? Well, it’s a terrorist group that has been ravaging the country for years. Coupled with the fact that transportation is underdeveloped and unreliable, there are multiple warnings against travel in Nigeria.

3. Yemen
Like many others on this list, Yemen has also been home to many terrorist groups. Rebel groups have been known to detain American and European citizens for political power. There are alternatives in the Middle East, and I would simply skip it.

4. Venezuela
The changing political atmosphere is just downright scary, and right now Venezuela is struggling. The news reports hunger issues, protests, and an overall uncertain situation. There is a growing economic crisis and tensions are rising.

5. Colombia
Narcos is a Netflix hit, because of its storytelling expertise and its historical accuracy. Colombia has been ravaged by drug trafficking, political corruption, and violent crimes for over 4 decades. Organized crime is a strong force in the country, and until peace agreements are formed, travel is warned against.

6. El Salvador
El Salvador, while home to beautiful mountainsides, is also home to violent gang crimes. There have been reported kidnappings in national parks and other public sites. The country has been turmoiled by civil war for many years, and never fully recovered.

7. Kenya
Rural Kenya is home to many terrorist factions. There are attacks often, and reported bombs and shootings are heard. The cities are usually spared, but it’s best to be safe. The worst times to visit is around election times, where cities are lit in violent protests.

8. Honduras
Honduras is located in Central America and has many beautiful sites to see, but perhaps not yet. Honduras has one of the highest murder rates in the world, and is known for its deadly crime.

9. Egypt
While the threat in Egypt is declining, it is still not the best time to visit. Terror groups and uprisings still exist, and the threat of attack is never far away. It is gaining safety, but there is no harm in waiting until things settle.

10. Ukraine
There is an ongoing conflict in Ukraine with Russia. Between the countries, the armed forces are involved with on the ground conflict in the Eastern region, and it is not uncommon for locals to get involved in the conflict.

Health / Eat THIS Food After Tooth Extraction by kenshaz(m): 5:44am On Aug 17, 2019
Intro
If you are planning a tooth extraction, plan ahead for your meals. You’ll be pretty sore and uncomfortable. Avoid things like spicy food or anything that can get stuck in the wound, like seeds, grains, and crumbly food.

Avoid anything chewy partly because you will be numb for a while and partly because you won’t feel like chewing anything.

Alcohol will irritate the wound and may mix badly with your pain relievers. Also avoid using a straw.

Here are some foods to eat that will help you heal after your surgery. Check out some of these tasty options!

Blended Soups

A blended soup has been pureed in a blender to remove any chunks. You can puree your favorite or try something like pumpkin, butternut, black bean and tomato.

Soups offer great nutrients and liquid to keep you hydrated. Milk or yogurt-based soups are great sources of calcium that will help you heal.

Since your mouth may still be numb and the wound is very sensitive, eat your blended soup warm or cold.

Broth

Broths are savory soups made from cooking vegetables, fish, or meat with herbs. It is usually strained before serving. Vitamins, minerals and lots of liquid – can’t ask for better!

Chicken broth is particularly good. It is an anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It’s great when you are sick and just as good when recovering from surgery.

Bone broth, made from simmering animal bones and connective tissues, is reputedly very healthy. It contains protein and minerals and may be an antioxidant.

Mashed Potatoes

When you are ready to eat something more substantial, try mashed potatoes. They are very high in calories, so you can get nutrients in just a few mouthfuls. Potatoes contain potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6. Potassium is important in rebuilding bones and is vital to healthy cells.

Don’t worry too much about all the calories. A reasonable amount during your recovery won’t hurt since your body need calories to heal. Again, eat them lukewarm.

Scrambled Eggs

Eggs are superb packages of protein, healthy fats and other nutrients. Buy omega-3 enriched eggs as omega-3 is important to healing tissue. They are low in calories as well.

Scramble eggs in a healthy fat like coconut, olive or avocado and serve lukewarm. They are easy to eat with minimum chewing. Fried or boiled eggs can be a bit harder to eat when your wound is new. Fried eggs can be crunchy and boiled eggs could get into your wound.

Greek Yogurt

Try Greek yogurt for a cool treat that is good for you. Greek yogurt is high in protein that is a necessity for healing. It also contains calcium and zinc, both needed elements for recovery.

Greek yogurt is recommended over regular yogurt because it contains 40% less sugar and twice the protein.

You may also find yogurt cooling and very gentle on sore teeth and jaws.

Applesauce

Fruit is a food that you need for healing but may find difficult to chew. Try applesauce for a treat that is high in vitamin C that helps wounds heal.

If you make your own, chop the skin very finely and then puree the apples. The skin contains most of the good nutrients, but with care, you can turn the entire apple into a healthy treat. Avoid fruit juices because they generally have a lot of added sugar and calories.

Mashed Bananas

Mash up some bananas to give you a wide variety of vitamins and minerals needed for healing. They are fairly high in calories, so go easy on them.

You could even turn bananas into a frozen treat. Freeze three to four bananas overnight, cut into slices, and blend with milk or almond milk. Blend to a smooth consistency. This is a healthier treat than ice cream because the sugar content is far lower.

Avocados

Avocados are a unique fruit because they are low in carbs and high in healthy fats. They also have a lot of vitamin C and potassium which aid in the healing process. They are nicely mushy and can be quickly mashed if they are still too hard to chew.

Avocados contain oleic acid. This is a healthy fat that facilitates healing and may also be an antifungal and antibacterial. Eat and enjoy. Just skip the veggies and tortilla chips!

Salmon

If you are desperate for meat, opt for salmon over chewy chicken or beef. It is soft and easy to chew. Best of all, it is a super source of protein which your body needs to heal, and it is very high in omega-3 fatty acids.

These also have healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Most people don’t get enough omega-3 fatty acids, so enjoy your salmon!

Hummus

Hummus is a combination of chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, lemon and garlic. It is simple to make and is available in most grocery stores.

Hummus is high in healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and protein. As you know from previous foods, all these are very important to the healing process. Garlic has well known antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties.

Hummus is generally eaten as a dip, but you may want to skip the veggies and pita bread until you heal up.

Cottage Cheese

A final food kind to sore jaws and extract wounds is cottage cheese. Like all dairy products, it’s high in protein. It is also a great source of nutrients that help you heal and rebuild bone.

You can add cottage cheese to many foods. When you scramble eggs, cottage cheese makes them fluffier. You could add it to mashed bananas and smoothies for the added punch of protein without a lot of calories.

Conclusion
Plan ahead to have soft or liquid foods that will help you heal while you are recovering from a tooth extraction. Stay away from anything that is crunchy or chewy, so you don’t break open your scab and stitches.

Be careful about using a straw. You can suck hard enough to create dry socket, a very painful condition.

Eat a reasonable number of calories and pamper yourself with warm drinks and soups. You’ll be up and back at life soon enough.
