Per Mertesacker believes squad relationships and dressing room atmospheres have improved hugely over the course of his career.

At 32, the veteran defender is one of Arsenal's most experienced players but he still makes an effort to connect with the younger members of the team. That attitude of openness and respect, however, was not so prevalent when Mertesacker was a young player.

Sports / What Lionel Messi Said After Sergio Ramos Mugged Him Off In El Clasico by kodefreak: 10:10am On Aug 17, 2017
Real Madrid were favourites heading in to their Spanish Super Cup contest against Barcelona but the manner in which Los Blancos dismantled the Copa del Rey winners across two legs was stunning.

Real went to the Camp Nou on Sunday and won 3-1. Then on Wednesday evening, they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory to make the aggregate score 5-1.

And it’s worth pointing out that Cristiano Ronaldo played for less than 30 minutes across the entire contest.

Goals in the first half from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema sealed yet another piece of silverware for Real coach Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman has now won seven trophies in under 20 months as manager of Real’s first team. He was an incredible player and he’s proving to be a brilliant tactician, too.

As for Barcelona, it’s too early to hit the panic button but the Spanish Cup has shown they are some way behind Real Madrid right now.

It’s imperative that they spend the €222 million they received from selling Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, and on players much, much better than Paulinho.

Lionel Messi remains an outstanding player but he can’t do it all on his own. Watching Andre Gomes and Ivan Rakitic last night made you understand just how much Messi must miss Xavi and Andres Iniesta in his prime.

PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi has signed for Juventus this afternoon – leading to a truck-load of abuse for the Chelsea hierarchy over their pursuit of Danny Drinkwater.

Regarded as one of Europe’s best holding midfielders, Matuidi has been the backbone of the PSG side for several years, and has become a mainstay in the star-studded France national side.

Health / Meet The Sex Robots Designed To Replace Girlfriends by kodefreak: 12:31pm On Aug 15, 2017
She never cries. She never nags. She never gets hungry or jealous. She doesn't need your commitment and she’ll never have to meet your parents, nor would you probably want her to. But most importantly, she never says no. She's always raring to go. The one hitch – or should we say glitch – is that she's not real. "She", the woman of your wildest dreams, is in fact an "it": a sex robot.

This might sound like a niche market or a farfetched fantasy, but sex robots are part of the lucrative sex technology industry, which has an estimated worth of around £23 billion. This includes online dating, virtual reality porn and "smart" intimacy gadgets that can be connected to a laptop, tablet or phone through Wi-Fi.

Sports / Romelu Lukaku Has A Debut To Remember For Man United With Dream Double by kodefreak: 8:34pm On Aug 13, 2017
From Wayne Rooney to Steve Mounie, it has been a bounteous weekend for striking debutants. Alexandre Lacazette and Alvaro Morata struck once apiece but a man as innately competitive as Jose Mourinho is likely to note that his attacking addition scored twice as many as the Chelsea and Arsenal arrivals.

Romelu Lukaku tends to gorge on West Ham United so a double was scarcely surprising. Nevertheless, an auspicious afternoon helped explain why Mourinho made him the costliest forward in the history of English football.

Manchester United played with swashbuckling style. West Ham drew 1-1 at Old Trafford last season. They were beaten 4-0 in a rematch, Paul Pogba’s emphatic 90th-minute goal completing a rout. He and Anthony Martial garnished a victory that led to chants of “we are top of the league,” but it is easier to add extra goals when another has supplied the all-important first and second.

Lukaku did, setting up United’s biggest home win under Mourinho. It represented a flying start to the season. The Portuguese likes to buy players who do not need time to adapt. Romelu Lukaku and the excellent Nemanja Matic both looked at home immediately.

Sports / Alvaro Morata Proves He's Willing To Adapt To Chelsea And Other Things Learned A by kodefreak: 10:45pm On Aug 12, 2017
Chelsea made a dramatic start to their Premier League title defence after falling to a 3-2 defeat by Burnley at Stamford Bridge that featured red cards for Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas.

Here are three things learned from their opening day defeat.

CAHILL’S CARD CAN BE NO EXCUSE

Against the backdrop of Antonio Conte’s frustration at a lack of new arrivals and with the absence of key players Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Tiemoue Bakayoko, Gary Cahill’s 14th-minute dismissal was nothing short of a disaster.

Especially with Burnley’s physicality in the final third and at set-pieces and the Chelsea captain being his side’s best aerial presence in a defensive sense.

What came to pass in Cahill’s absence was chaotic, with Sam Vokes dragging Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz out of position and neither looking comfortable with the volume of high crossfield balls they were having to defend.

For Vokes’ second, Luiz left the Welsh striker and appeared to be more concerned with Rudiger. Unsurprisingly the Chelsea duo collided and Vokes had a free header.

However, the shambolic nature of what Chelsea descended into shouldn’t be solely squared at Cahill’s rash feet.

Sports / Chelsea Boss Conte Hints At Starting Batshuayi Over £70M Man Morata by kodefreak: 11:55am On Aug 12, 2017
Antonio Conte is prepared to take “risks” with his Chelsea team selection, with it possible Michy Batshuayi could start ahead of Alvaro Morata.

The Blues have spent a club-record £70 million bolstering their attacking ranks this summer, with a high-profile addition brought in from Real Madrid.

With Diego Costa deemed surplus to requirements, Spain international Morata was identified as the man to fill his boots.

The 24-year-old is, however, having to adjust to life in England and it could be that a man snapped up 12 months ago gets the opportunity to lead the line after impressing with five goals in pre-season.

Conte told the club’s official website on his striking conundrum: “It’s a great possibility for Michy Batshuayi. He has played every [pre-season] game from the start and it’s very important for him to play well.

Jokes Etc / Woman’s Plan To Sell Her Husband On Facebook Backfires When Loads Of Women Offer by kodefreak: 11:44am On Aug 12, 2017
Anyone in a relationship knows the feeling.

You love the person you’re with, obviously. It’s just that sometimes they get so irritating that you want to tell them to p*ss off forever, just so you don’t have to listen to them chewing ice, or jiggling their legs under the table, or mispronouncing Kim Kardashian’s name.
For Teresa Turner, the annoying factor comes down to her misophonia.
Misophonia, if you didn’t know, is a sensitivity to certain noises. Teresa can’t handle listening to people eating loudly, so when her husband, Rob, insisted on playing a video of someone crunching over and over again, it was the final straw.

Science/Technology / New Kodi Update Arrives - Download It Now! by kodefreak: 10:30pm On Aug 11, 2017
Kodi has been in the news a lot lately, and not for the best reasons. While the software itself isn’t illegal, using third-party add-ons to watch copyrighted content is, and many of those add-ons have been pulled recently following threats of legal action. Controversial add-on site TVAddons even vanished briefly from the web, before reappearing a week ago.

Despite all this, it’s business as usual for the Kodi Foundation which does its best to distance itself from the piracy accusations so often leveled at it, and the team has just released a new build for the popular open source media player.

While Kodi users are waiting eagerly for Kodi 18 -- Leia -- to surface, this update is for Kodi 17 -- Krypton.

Romance / Could This Victorian Sex Move Revitalise Your Sex Life? by kodefreak: 7:12pm On Aug 11, 2017
Sometimes in a relationship, sex can get a little stale.

It’s perfectly normal, but as a sex writer the number one question I get asked is ‘how do I get those first time feelings back?’

The honest truth is that you can’t. There’s no way of making things totally new again. But there are plenty of ways of making them deeper, more passionate and more exciting than ever before. And isn’t that just as good?

Two people who are trying to bring better, happier and healthier sex are Mike Lousada and Louise Mazanti, authors of new book Real Sex.

There’s a whole lot to Mike and Louise’s theories (an entire book’s worth in fact!) but reading their book, on specific exercise struck me as properly effective. So, we’re sharing it with you.

Sports / 'i'm Not Looking For Sympathy', Says Antonio Conte Regarding Chelsea's Squad by kodefreak: 4:21pm On Aug 11, 2017
Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte insisted on Friday he was "not looking for sympathy" over the size of his squad.

The Italian led the Blues from 10th the previous campaign to the Premier League trophy last season.

But with a return to the Champions League resulting in additional fixtures, the Blues' squad size appears thin.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had an answer, pointing to Chelsea sending numerous players out on loan, while former England captain turned pundit Alan Shearer said there was "something brewing which isn't nice" at Stamford Bridge.

Conte said: "I'm not looking for sympathy of any coaches for this situation. This is my message.

"The situation is clear. If the club decide to send on loan players for their development it's because these players are not ready to play for Chelsea."

Conte kept his counsel on Chelsea's transfer business, with the summer window open until August 31.

Conte said: "It's simple. I think I'm the coach of this team. My.......

Family / We SHOULD Smack Naughty Children - For Their Own Good - DR MAX by kodefreak: 5:56pm On Aug 05, 2017
The toddler in front of me was rocking back and forth in his seat, screaming periodically. ‘Come on now, Justin, what did we say about sitting quietly?’ his mother cajoled. ‘You’ll spoil it for everyone else.’

But Justin wasn’t even pretending to listen. He stood up on his seat and proceeded to clamber over the other theatre-goers.

His mother apologised profusely and tried to follow him along the row, pleading with him to return to his seat. He didn’t. His reign of terror continued for most of the performance.

This week, I took my nephew to see a play, aimed at two to five-year-olds. He sat through it without a murmur, but others were atrociously behaved: hitting, shouting, throwing things. At times I wondered if I was at the theatre or the zoo.

So many of the children lacked any real discipline. Their parents tried reasoning with them — but, being toddlers, reason doesn’t always work.

I wondered what my own mum would have done if I’d been behaving like that as a child. I knew the answer. One warning, then, if I did it again, trousers down, a slap on the back of the legs. Simple. I know it’s a cliche when people say they were smacked and they turned out OK — but I was smacked, and I did turn out OK.

Yet in recent years there have been very vocal campaigns to criminalise any physical chastisement of children. Just this week, the day after I’d been to the theatre, research was published suggesting smacking toddlers risked turning them into aggressive teenagers.

Health / 7 Ways Science Supports Beer Is Good For Your Health by kodefreak: 2:41pm On Aug 05, 2017
Sometimes there’s nothing better than cracking open a cold one after a long day.

We tend to view beer as an indulgence — maybe because we associate all those suds with a beer gut and inevitable weight gain. But you’ll be happy to hear that, when consumed in moderation (we repeat, moderation), the benefits of beer go far beyond helping you wind down after a stressful week.

What exactly constitutes “drinking in moderation,” anyway? The Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines moderate alcohol consumption as having one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. While research does show there is room for imbibing as part of a balanced, healthy diet, they also advise not to start drinking if you currently abstain.

But if you do keep a six-pack in the fridge, crack open a cold one and say “cheers” to these health benefits!

Sports / “conte’s Lost His Mind” – Chelsea Fans React To Latest News by kodefreak: 7:58am On Aug 04, 2017
In a bid to land Inter star Antonio Candreva, Chelsea are willing to offer defender Andreas Christensen in a player plus cash deal.

According to Tuttosport (via the Daily Express), Conte is keen to land the 30-year-old, who is valued at £17million by Transfermarkt, and sees him as the perfect right wing-back for his now famous 3-5-2 system.

Andreas Christensen, the man who could reportedly be sent to Inter in exchange for Candreva, has spent the last two season on loan in Germany, at Borussia Monchengladbach. The 21-year-old was a regular feature in the Bundesliga and performed with the maturity and confidence of a player far beyond his years of experience.

Sports / Quick Peek – Chelsea 2017/18 Season Preview by kodefreak: 1:37pm On Aug 03, 2017
After the madness of the 2015/16 Premier League season it appears normal service has been resumed. We head into 17/18 with Chelsea as defending champions once again, having strode to the title without really much fuss at all in the end. Antonio Conte arrived, dug through the rubble left behind by his Portuguese predecessor, and restored the club to a spot at the top of English football.

The squad Conte inherited was – despite its defective state – obviously fantastic. Nonetheless he should be applauded for reassembling them into a team with no real holes in their game. The move to a 3-4-3 was inspired and the speed with which the players adapted to it a testament to Conte’s management. As was bringing Victor Moses out of the wilderness and somehow turning him into Cafu.

Any measure you want to look at, they ranked highly. The bedrock of their success being the killer combo of conceding a low amount of shots (8.5 per game, 3rd fewest in the league) + low quality of those shots. Between the 11th of December and the 25th of February they had a run where they conceded fewer than 10 shots in every match – 12 matches in total. They also made superb use of set pieces, scoring 22 goals from them, 9 goals more than any other top-6 team. Back to front they were just solid. Their defensive numbers might have been even better had they not spent the first few matches testing other formations.

What version of Easy Worship are you using? Hopefully 6?
Well, you have to add songs to the database first, setup the proper theme display for songs and make sure you're ready before a presentation.
The operator must know the schedule of songs to come on next because it must be added to the Easy Worship schedule. This makes it easy for the operator to easily and effectively follow.
Again, you must setup the right Easy Worship views to enable you seamlessly progress from schedule, preview and presentation.

Jobs/Vacancies / Volunteer – Reasons Why You Should Consider It by kodefreak: 10:57pm On Jul 28, 2017
There’s a constant hustle to get better paid jobs, promotions, get a job, create or expand a business. You can consider to volunteer to offer your skills, experience etc.

When it comes to searching for a new job, almost everyone thinks about building a résumé and LinkedIn profile, networking in person and online and responding to advertised positions. Of course, these are all critical elements of your job hunt. There is another, less obvious thing you should be doing: volunteering for an organization, group or cause in which you believe.

Science/Technology / Jeff Bezos: Five things you may not know about Amazon’s founder by kodefreak: 8:40pm On Jul 28, 2017
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos briefly overtook Bill Gates on Thursday to become the world’s richest person, as his worth hit $91.4bn (£70bn).

A sharp rise in Amazon shares meant Mr Bezos’s wealth eclipsed that of the Microsoft co-founder for a time according to Forbes.
But as Amazon shares fell back, Mr Gates regained the top spot.

Mr Bezos, 53, owns about 17% of the shares in Amazon, but also has interests in several other businesses.
Recently soaring technology stocks have fuelled huge growth in the worth of entrepreneurs such as Mr Bezos and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, 33, who is number five on Forbes’s list.

But the last person to steal the lead was Spanish fashion boss Amancio Ortega, founder of Zara’s owner Inditex. He was the world’s richest man for two days last September.
Amazon’s current share price puts Mr Bezos only marginally behind Mr Gates.

Here are five things you may not know about Mr Bezos:
