Properties / Abuja Park Land Available. What Are My Options? by lacewiggal: 10:52pm On Jun 11, 2016
A Colleague acquired a Park land in Mabushi area of Abuja including FCDA approval with intent to use for event center business. The Person has expended a sizeable amount of money on getting the place ready for business but ran into misfortune along the way and couldnt continue with the project. I am now being asked to suggest how one can make revenue from what is left behind. This is a fully fenced land of 5000sqm with paved carparks and platform of 1500 sqm. Also available on site are 2 forty foot containers. Experts in the house, What ways can the owner recoup investment cost on this land? Bearing in mind that it is park and such has restrictions on what it can be used for.

As building churches also should be ban from government offices.hypocrite!!!!

Actually a progressive government would build a non-denominational Prayer/Devotion room or hall. Different religions can reserve it for communal gatherings at different times and individuals can walk in and use at their convenience. It should serving all religions even atheists that need some quiet time.
Politics / Re: Lagos Rejects Hijab In Public Schools by lacewiggal: 11:39am On May 16, 2013
superstar1: The question I am posting to all of u defending this hijab wearing in school is, how will you feel seeing your children in the same class with an ifa child with palm fronds on her waisy, cowries on her fore head and White powder or chalk on her face, all in the name of her exercising her choice of religion?

If government decide to create a Moslem school or Christian school, the traditional worshippers too have equal and full right to demand same, likewise the atheist. In as much as they are tax payers too.

Be objective, civil and holistic in your view of things. For the MSS people making noise, the government policy has stated in policy documents for uniform in government schools clearly states what a school uniform should be. If any court rules that hijab must be allowed, definitely palm fronds, sutana, rosary, holy water, and pasting of religious programme posters on school uniform has become admissible and we shall witness a ununiform uniformity in our schools.

Based on the constitution, people should be allowed to do this if their religion requires it, off course it would have to be backed by evidence that the religion actually requires it. Its called TOLERANCE

The comments on this post so far show that Nigerian non-muslims are just as intolerant as nigerian muslims. That being said, I'll go ahed and educate those that don't know.

1. The Nigerian constitution calls for Separation of State from Religion.
2. The same constitution also allows for freedom to practice or not practice religion.
3. Nigerian "Public" Schools are usually less expensive than their private counterparts and available to citizens regardless of religious affiliation
4. Islamic directive on dressing for post puberty age females includes covering of all parts of body except face and hands when leaving the home and in front on male non-relatives, (not just when praying or on fridays wink ).
5. No other religion to the best of my knowledge has such explicit directives on female dressing
6. Nigerian "Public School" uniform exposing parts of the legs, arms and hair and thus does not conform to Islamic doctrines.

If the state allows for people to practice any religion, do they not see that preventing muslim women from wearing hijab to school is denying them their civil right?!!!
If the state allows for freedom of religion, do they not see that denying people access to public school based on religion is denying them their civil right

Hmmmm.....There's bound to be civil rights uproars from this silly, uninformed and relatively unimportant ban.

IMO, People should be allowed to practice verifiable doctrines of their religion, I mean, If someone does not want to show you their body, why should you force them to? For a muslim woman, forcing her to show her body give her a feeling equivalent to the feeling of violation a non-muslim gets from rape and sexual harassment.

LAGOS State, don't be deceived by false praises, THIS IS IN NO WAY A PROGRESSIVE MOVE, THIS IS TAKING US AS A COUNTRY BACK TO THE PRE-COLONIAL DAYS!

No Progressive administration can ban people from practicing harmless acts of their religion!
No progressive government can deny access to the public school system on the basis of religion!

Look at Progressive societies like US and UK, Have you heard them ban hijab? or ban t-shirts for that matter?!!! lol

C'mon! BRF needs to quit tryna be Naija's coolest Governor and just plain do as the law says.

Career / Re: Finally I Stopped Seeking For A Job&went To Learn A Handwork. by lacewiggal: 10:24am On Mar 23, 2013
The advice I can give you OP is make YouTube your best friend! Any new technique be it hair skin or make up or nails are available there and the knowledge is endless! There are so many people who learnt makeup on YouTube, I personally learnt hair on YouTube. When you provide your stylists with an environment that is conducive and you encourage them to learn new techniques, they'll value you more and you'll even get more customers. As far as payment, ive heard of those that pay stylists 25% commission on whatever work they do. The remaining 75% goes to owner of shop and running the shop.
blamelessly: I read Economics in school. After I lost my job due to the company shutting down the Nigeria office, it become almost impossible to get a new1 for a long time. I got tired of scattering my CVs everywhere, while becoming koboless daily. I went to learn how to fix ladies' false nails, pedicure&manicure and make up artistry. I begged someone who owned a salon if I could hang around her salon to get customers. Its been over a year. Instead of staying at home, hoping for a job to drop out somehow, I've been in the salon earning a living. I'm about to open a classic unisex salon in a month. I must confess, I'm getting afraid all of a sudden. I hate2 fail. I don't know much about hair. I plan to employ willing youths with the skills while I concentrate on what I know and aim2 learn more. I need stylists and barbers. Don't want them to mess me up. Hoping I've not cut more than I can chew

If you could take the hassle out of shopping for a good or service in nigeria, what good or service would that be?

I know some people have to send abroad to buy certain things or even travel to get certain services e.g I know someone who has to travel or send abroad once a year just to get contact lenses, if not he'll be as good as blind! lol

I'm interested in going into business, and I have a few ideas at the moment, however, I don't want to bring in another"strictly for the elites business" however, I want sometime that will appeal to the average nigerian, who can't afford to travel to get the basic necessities of life.

If you have any suggestions, please help a sister out. God bless.

Culture / Can You Name 5 Of The "other" Languages In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 6:25pm On Oct 30, 2011
Hi everyone,

So I wanted to start a game that is fun and will also be enlightening for some of us. I remember in primary school, my social studies textbook always said "Nigeria has over 200 languages but the major ones are Yoruba, Hausa and Ibo". Wikipedia even says we have a WHOPPING 521 LANGUAGES!!!! I've been fortunate enough to be from one other "197 or so" and so i have been more aware of the minority tribes maybe because most times we are "overlooked" by our brothers from the major tribes :-), However, even I just realized that I only know of the names a few of these languages myself. So for the benefit of those who are not familiar with the other languages, lets play this game.

RULES:
1. Name 5 of the other languages in Nigeria
2. You can't repeat a name that someone else has mentioned.
3. No tribalism or slurs or derogatory comments
4. ENJOY!!!!

I'll start ,

Ibibio, Bassa, Igala, Ebira, Nupe
Education / Re: Nigeria Graduate Vs Foreign Graduate by lacewiggal: 6:49pm On Aug 19, 2011
You people are just shooting arrows anyhow, all in the name of telling us you went to school in naija. a beg, stop struggling to speak oyibo if you have no knowledge of basic tenses, and sentence construction. See wahala o! u just come internet come dey show yourself finish! please what is "nigeria graduate are better" and "okonjo fail nigeria economy" ?! what is that?! are we in nursery school here? come on! , ok let me get serious

In my opinion, the major benefit of a western education, is that when approached with moderation and realism, it affords the average nigerian student the opportunity to excel abroad in a diverse environment, but most importantly AT HOME IN NIGERIA, so long as you don't go and forget yourself because your skin tone will forever be black (even with bleaching cream) and your name will forever be a tongue twister. #that is all!

Fairness should be applied to all sectors.
You cannot in good conscience justfiy the 1.5b naira our senate president takes yearly and then tell me that it was too high for a pharmacist to earn good pay. Meanwhile Obama earns an equivalent of only 55million naira before tax annually. When u remove more than 30% tax from that amt, then u know how much his take home pay is annually.
By the way, have u even considered the cost of living in a place like Abuja? Abuja is pretty much more expensive than so many cities in USA(like houston, florida, dallas, durham, raleigh, etc) and Canada(like manitoba, halifax, edmonton, orangeville, etc), Check out the facts. Give me a break on the GDP nonsense. What is the GDP of South Africa? If our resources are well managed, S/A wouldn't be a match to ngr; but they in SA pays way higher than we do in ngr. Could u imagine that naija doctors go to SA to train with the latest equipment. What an outrage! Meanwhile Delta state gov is writing a check of 3b naira to OBJ; Bode George was jailed for stealing 100b naira. I believe that the reason for the underpayment is a misplacement of priorities in nigeria and corruption.  Nigeria has enough resources to pay her deserving professional well and not the peanut 18000 naira death wage

in fact you hit the nail on the head here, don't mind Mr. saga mite

Sagamite:

Cut the crap!

How did a rough estimate of a so-called PROFESSIONAL pharmacists roughly estimate a 25+% tax rate into 10%? What "concept" of rough estimation is that?

Someone that is a professional does not know what his tax rate is? After we have found out he has no analytical brain to understand economic disparities?

Professional my arse! Are you sure you no be fake drug seller? If your analytical and maths skills is this bad, I pity the person that allows you to prescribe to them.

What you said would have bothered me if I didn't have my degree hanging on the wall in front of me lol
You can rain me with insults from now till next year, that dosent take away from the truth than Professionals are underpaid in Nigeria.

Advice: u can run for president right after GEJ, U seem to think like him, U'll fit rite into his shoes, and then u can perpetuate a Nigeria of "Look at Somalia, they are suffering there too now" then our country's slogan will be , "Nigeria - "better than the worst"

U ought be ashamed of yourself wink
Career / Re: Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 2:01pm On Aug 09, 2011
Sagamite:

Honestly, lacewiggal, you need to address this question, otherwise I will just see you as one of those with psychological problems that come on the net and claim some fictitious achievement/earnings to boast their self-esteem.

and this is supposed to scare me? who cares wat u see and don't see? lmao! if u don't understand the concept of rough estimate, u can get intimate with a transformer for all i care.

instead of focusing on the issue at hand you are dwelling on insignificance. whether income tax in the US is 5, 10 or even 20%, that dosent take away from the fact that professionals in nigeria are underpaid.
Career / Re: Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 11:00pm On Aug 08, 2011
lastly please please and please, Google is your friend, use it! there's no excuse for such ignorant comments in the 21st century.
Career / Re: Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 10:57pm On Aug 08, 2011
I wont mention any names in this post but I'll offer some clarification. I'm a new grad with less than a year of experience so my knowledge of such economics may be basic to say the least, however, the disparities are as apparent as black and white.

my guy, $150/hr for an IT professional, wake up from your slumber ehn? grin i'm trying not to die laughing, but oh well, you probably were a freelancer or consultant, not a full time permanent IT entry level professional.

The demeanor at which some responses are written can only come from the frustration of being underpaid and cheated out of rights, somehow you find solace in making excuses for the situation.

lastly, The intent of my original post was to ask the "question", "Why are professionals underpaid in nigeria?", Thanks to those who offered reasonable and direct "answers" to help me better understand the situation.

As for those that cannot answer simple question, pls return to primary school and gain basic "english comprehension"
skills. while you are at it? pls clarify that 5% off $50 is not equal to $45/hr, anyways I gave a rough estimate of my earnings, use ur imaginations guys, why so literal?

Adios!!!
Career / Re: Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 4:17pm On Aug 07, 2011
@ werepele

Taxes aint that bad yo. so for instance, my hourly wage is $50/hr after tax it'll be sumn like $45/hr x 40 x4 x12 = $86400--- still not bad to afford you many of the good things of life.

I see all your criticisms and comparisons. the purpose of my post is not to compare both ---if not i would have titled it "why are professionals paid less in nig than abroad"

my point is not too use the GEJ defense aka the "they are doing it too" defense. we shouldnt be bothered what other countries are paying thier professionals only if it is a source of positive influence to pay and treat our professionals right.
im saying this to say that those professionals that may be earning "peanuts" abroad are not the ones we should be trying to emulate if we want to move forward and be a financially empowered population.

about starting a business, i addressed that in my previous post. if i was to start mine, (which i intend to, after i gain enough experience to be able to call myself a credible professional) i'd pay people what they deserve and not slave wages.

Cheers.
Career / Re: Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 1:59am On Aug 07, 2011
Thanks for your responses, some of them very intelligent and realistic, thumbs up.

some are just plain ignorant, ---don't be in denial, people, the first step in finding a solution is acknowledging the problem.

As for those that feel like attacking me for my opinion, all i can do is laugh because at the end of the day, it's the truth.
e.g the ones that say it's 4-6x and not 10x etc, sweethearts, the point is that's still a large disparity in wages.

For those that are talking about standard of living etc. influencing the ridiculously low wage that rxists earn in nig; --- pls tell that to someone who is a stranger to naija. I, for one, am not. I know what 120,000 naira can do for you in nig and by no means does it come close to what my monthly salary does for me here in the US

@hispy99, bravo, well said, like a true GEJ follower, you are benchmarking yourself with less developed countries, when you can benchmark yourself with developed ones, try saudi, US, uK, aUSTRALIA etc,

@folahann, in fact, you are directly after my heart, well said.

@tunnytox, u seem like u mean well, but u spoil ur kind advice with arrogance, start a business, great for profits, but how about fulfillment, how about if I want to practice in a hospital setting etc. Also, before you condemn the level of education I have, maybe you can think about this for a minute. "Any credible professional that wants to venture out into business would want some experience in the field, only if u are just after money, i wont be surprised if u don't get my point though, cos many of us are after money alone.

for the guy saying nigerians are generally not productive so they should be paid less etc,
--- The US healthcare industry is pretty much run by Nigerians (IMHO) and we're typically quite productive, so should we be punished for wanting to return home and serve in our countries just because we are presumed as "Unproductive Nigerians"?
Career / Why Are Professionals So Underpaid In Nigeria? by lacewiggal: 1:44pm On Aug 05, 2011
im a pharmacist practicing in the states desperatey thinking of returning home soon to serve my fatherland. but i was looking at salaries  and they range from 60,000- 120,000 naira per month!!!!!! isn't that a form of modern day slavery? everyone knows d suffering that pharm students pass thru in school so why the low pay? less than 1000 dollars per month kwa? tufia!!!!! lol  pharmacists in the rest of the world mostly make 10- 12 times that amount per month, should we continue to perpetuate dis slavery or stand up for our rights!?
