What kind of personality

I dont get this. a man that moves at zero miles per hour. A man that doesnt connect to the nigerian people and only had 1 media chat to the nation (as far as i know) in 18 months of presidency , no press conferences. a man that hounds online journalists and puts newspaper editors into jail like that of leadership newspaper. A man that proetects Ibori and his fellow looters and allow all the curropt former governors to move freely and spend their loot.

If this are the qualities and personality u mean then Nigeria is doomed for failure except the intervention of God!!

@black revo

Injustice is injsutice!!! the people have a right to choose who they want and wills of the people have to reflect on the leadership. That election was a nollywood script !!! and international observers and local ones have all called it a farce. In fact it is monumental disgrace!!!. It is not abt Buhari or Atiku it is abt Nigerians and thier mandate.

@Dayokanu

What i meant is the growth of a religion that is mostly misunderstood by the west in the west. There are several religions in the world open to the west  for example in the UK there hindus, christians, muslims buddhist, jews and several more but among the worlds religion islam appears to be the fastest growing and a simple google search would butress my point.

The simple point I am trying to make is amidst all the negativity and hatred towards islam why on earth are more people accepting the faith rather than more people leaving it. The answer I think is intelligent people take their time to study the faith independently and free from bias and some of them accept it. There was a thread I posted and I would try to copy it here as well abt a UK journalist whom I met personally. She was captured by the Taliban and she embraced islam on her return to the UK what an irony !!!

I took my time to study Christianity and I respect the Christians but there are some fanatical elements in this forum that all they do is spread hate messages and don’t give a damn abt the sensitivity of other peoples faith. They are just a bunch of educated people but not intelligent otherwise they would be trying to bring people together and not sowing the seeds of discord and resentment!!! No muslim worth to be called a muslim would spk ill of Jesus!!. In fact there is a verse in the quran commanding muslims not to insult the gods of other faith,

We can disagree but the use of abusive words just the lack of maturity and they are not just worth replying.

Bastage:

So what? It's irrelevant. The fact is that they still existed and still targetted anyone who they disagreed with. The fact remains that 9/11 was well before the Iraqi invasion.

@Bastage and Davidlad

Please it seems u guys are trying to justify the Iraq war that has been deemed a failure of intelligence? A war that several millions people protested against? a war that had  no connection to 9/11 ? Only after the war was al qaeda in iraq.

A war that leaders around the world have regretted? A war that Kofi Annan as the UN secretary general call illegal on march 2 2003 just days before the invasion. A war that several hundreds of thousand lives have been lost and millions displaced?

I thought u loads were sincere people against indiscriminate killings but u have just lost and any respect i could have for your posts.

The same iraqi people that were meant to be liberated are now refusing to extend the US soldiers stay in iraq beyond 2010. Obama himself was against the war and planning on ending it and here are few nigerians out of hatred for Islam trying to say its alqaeda thats caused the Iraq problem.

[b]The killing of innocents anywhere is a crime !!![b]

The US govt is guilty of killing innocents civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lets not even talk about the prisoner abuse of abu ghuraib  where prisoners were being forced to perform homosexual acts on each other and photos taken. Is this how freedom and democracy should be spread? Freedom by oppressing the very people you claim to liberate.

please u guys should just leave Iraq out of this as any attempt justifying a  war which the sole reason was flawed is an exercise in futility. WMD was and would never be found in Iraq because they aint got it!!

davidylan:

Most of these "innocent lives" were taken by moslems themselves.

If not for Al Aqaeda and their murderous allies the Iraq war would have been over since 2003.
If not for the Taleban granting Osama a safe haven in Afghanistan there would have been no war there
If Hamas was not hell-bent on destroying Israel she wont need to arm herself with nukes in self-defence.
If Pakistani millitants simply allowed India and the rest of the world to have peace no one would kill them

If Hezbollah stopped using Lebanon as a launching pad to destroy Israel, the IDF would never have gone to war with them.
Innocent indeed!

Dude!!! Hamas was established in 1987 Isreal Had nuclear weapons since the early 70s. Vununu the whistle blower exposed them in the early 80s i think and spent several years in jail solitary confinement.

Do you know the UN charter call many parts of what is called Isreal today Occupied territories?

Are you aware of the dozens of UN resolutuions against the state of Isreal that they have never implemented yet Iraq defied just 1 and was invaded. Are the blood of some people better than others?

Dude what do you know about the Kashmiri problem and do you know the opinion of the kasmiri people themselves ? Are you aware there are more muslims in India than Pakistan?

I don't know your understanding of history but do u know Lebanon was occupied by Isreal for 20 years until Hezbollah kicked them out in 2000.

While I am here condeming the killing of ANY lives here are some of you guys condeming the indian attacks with one mouth and trying to say the souls killed in iraq, afghanistan are not innocent!!!!

What a life!!!!

Pataki:

I do not want to keep exchanging words with you on this matter as I see that your tolerance limit is getting to your wits end and before we know it, mudslinging arises which has brought about this last concluding statement from you as quoted above.

FYI, I do not hate muslims. My core friends while in my undergraduate and postgraduate were Muslims. I simply hate the religion called Islam which tries to force itself on people and nations, killed innocent lives in the north of Nigeria amongst numerous other nations of the world. My friends know we can talk in respect to any matter and relate on any level but when it comes to Islam, I let them know my standpoint on it. It does not equal to my hatred for a set of people. Please next time be informed or rather ask before making such an outlandish statement as a conclusion.

Thanks. smiley

@pataki

I think it is very clear the gentleman did not imply that there are more muslims than Christians in  AWO hall. It is so obvious and what I would expect any humble intellectual to do is to own up and apologise and we move on to debate the topic. There is no point in trying to justify the mistake.

As regards your comment that you hate the religion of islam and not muslims is an oxymoron. It is an unfortunate thing to say. I would encourage you to study islam with an independent mind and not from your muslim friends. Several intelligent people have done this and in the process some have even converted to Islam and that’s the sole reason why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the West – US, UK, Germany, Canada and even France. These conversions are not due to immigration but indigenous people  converting to Islam despite all the negativity in the media.

There was a program on aljazeera some few weeks back abt Islam in America and it talked abt some 1000 or so latinos in New Jersey who converted to islam after 9/11. I mean every sane mind would ponder and know there is a reason for this and it is because of independent study of the faith free from all bias.  You don’t have to be a muslim as it is not compulsory but this study would make you learn to respect the faith and understand there is no perfect muslim like there is no perfect Christian or jew.

I learn to respect Christians and I from a family of 7 with 4 christians  and 3 muslims and of the 3 muslims  2 are married to Christians. I have read the bible from genesis to revelation and  with all humility when I discuss with some Christians I find that I even know a lot about the bible than they do. I just find it disgusting when some fanatical people spread these hate messages as it lacks any sense of maturity, intellectuality and enlightenment. These messages has no purpose other than sow deeply the seeds of discord and resentment at a time when we should learn to live in peace and harmony.

Osisi and Davidlad are the Queen and King of the extreme right fanatics who spread these hate messages and I would take my time to reply your posts when I get the time.

During my primary school education, 90% of the students in my various classes were christains, ditto secondary with a slight difference at the university level. All these were in Lagos, southwestener Nigeria ( save for the university education). Didnt attend a missionary school at any point time.

Have been working in Lagos for at least 5 years, all my collegues are 90% christains. I don't work in a church.

Attended professional classes, 60% of the students were xtains.

In my 27years of living in Lagos, I have never had a muslim neighbour and have had to change houses like 3 times. Where then are the muslims in Lagos?

How then can Lagos be predominantly muslim?

@Yemmyse
Is this a way of determining the majority of a religous sect? Damn this is so narrow minded and naive i am sorry!!!
yemmyse:

Ibime

Thank you so much.

Lady almost fainted beside me yesterday. She had the gown thingy on, with the terrible midday heat in Lagos. She nearly fainted. Her she had to keep fanning her till she recovered.

Sharia Advocates

I know what ur plans are, to deindustrialise Lagos and send all the investors away, so we can become subsistence like ur beloved Zamfara and become more dependent on the dwlinging income from sales of crude oil and further get into the bad books of our brothers in the ND. It wont work, there are several other states in the North that are not sharilised, try them first.

Please for Gods sake why are people so nosy and infringe on other peoples right to choose what is good for them. What is your business with a woman wearing the veil? Is it your problem or is your head she puts in on? Does she not have a right to wear what she wants? How come the millions of women wearing it in the hot temperature of 40ºC not all fainting. Please Please the same way  some women to choose to wear pants and bras outside is the same way some women choose to cover themselves out of modesty.

@Osisi you seem to have an inherent hatred for the religion of Islam other wise how would a decent and intellectual person in the 21st century say something like " the quran should be thrown in the sea". Even the pope would not say such an insensitive statement.

If the archbishop of Cantebury would only have nice words for the sharia and clamour for some of it aspects in the UK and the head of church of Scotland say the same then i dont think any of you guys here have any intellectual depth to attack the sharia.

The sharia penal code which is what most people only know because of the sever punishments involve is so difficult and rarely ever used in real islamic governance. The cutting of a thiefs hand should never be applied until the govt of the day has been able to tackle and eradicate unemployment to the near zero level in order that no one would have any excuse to steal. This cutting of a thiefs hand can and should never be applied in Nigeria until the govt can eradicate poverty. (The cutting of the thiefs hand years back in zamfara was not justified bearing in mind the poverty in the state at that time). T

he biggest thieves in Nigeria are the politicians and I think if they have their hands chopped off  NO SON OF MAN AMONG THEM would steal public funds again. Anyway in general terms there has to be social justice before the criminal code can come into place. This social justice is another aspect of the sharia which precedes the implementation of the criminal code.

Pls lets encourage RELGIOUS DIALOGUE AND NOT ALL THIS CONFRONTATIONAL ATTACK AND MUSLIM HATE MESSAGES IT LEADS NO WHERE.
Politics / Re: Islam: The Next American Religion? by lammie01: 2:17pm On Dec 10, 2008
Note: I personally met this lady in and she is one of the most honest and fearless women i have met.

By Yvonne Ridley

Yvonne Ridley was the woman who was arrested by the Taliban for entering Afghanistan illegally. She feared severe punishment, but instead she was released after promising to read about Islam and emerged from her imprisonment praising the civility and courtesy of her captors. News reports of her embracing Islam have proved premature, but as she outlines for The Muslim News, Yvonne Ridley has certainly been wooed by Islam and the Muslims.

ISLAM is by far the most misunderstood religion in the world today thanks to centuries of medieval-style propaganda successfully peddled by bigots and Christian zealots.

So I should not have been entirely surprised by the almost hysterical reaction in the mainstream media to news that I am considering becoming a Muslim.

I have even been accused of suffering from Stockholm Syndrome as a result of spending 10 days in the hands of the Taliban.

Bearing in mind I spent my last four days in the company of six bible-bashing Christians in Kabul Prison I think we can knock that theory on the head.

The truth is my captors probably thanked Allah when I was kicked out of Afghanistan. They appeared very happy to see the back of me since I spent most of my time being rather abusive and obnoxious to them – I think some are still receiving counselling!
When I initially thought about converting, I reflected I had a fundamental problem… I started the day with a bacon sandwich and ended it with a large glass or three of whisky. I was told by someone who had ‘crossed over’ that these issues would become insignificant and indeed they have.
However, my spiritual journey, like that for many converts/reverts, was always meant to be a personal affair between myself and God.
Unfortunately, it has now become a very public issue and so I have decided to set the record straight to prevent any more misunderstandings or misconceptions.

Stories of my premature conversion were wired around the world resulting in a deluge of e-mails from Muslim congratulating me – some e-mails were not that complimentary.
It is true my journey did begin in the unlikely surrounds of an Afghan prison where I was being held by the Taliban facing charges of spying for entering their country illegally disguised in the all-enveloping burqa. I remember the day very clearly.
Hamid, my interpreter, said I had a very important visitor and that I must be respectful. My heart skipped a beat as a tall man wearing long flowing white robes and a turban walked into my room.

I realised immediately he was a religious cleric. He asked me about my religious status – Protestant – and then asked me what I thought of Islam and if I would like to convert.

I was terrified. For five days I had managed to avoid the subject of religion in a country led by extremists. If I gave the wrong response, I had convinced myself I would be stoned to death. After careful thought I thanked the cleric for his generous offer and said it was difficult for me to make such a life-changing decision while I was in prison.

However, I did make a promise that if I was released I would study Islam on my return to London. My reward for such a reply was being sent to a primitive jail in Kabul where I was locked up with six Christians who faced charges of trying to convert Muslims to their faith.

I was also brought up in the Christian faith, sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher, but I felt their brand of Christianity was almost as extreme as the Taliban’s brand of Islam.

I remember one evening sitting outside my cell in the prison courtyard listening to happy clappy hymns in my left ear as someone made the call to prayers in my right ear. I thought to myself I was caught in between two sets of religious fundamentalists.

It was a very clear night and as I gazed up at the stars I felt I was trapped in a parallel universe and pondered my fate.
Several days later I was released unharmed on humanitarian grounds on the orders of Mullah Omar, the Taliban’s one-eyed spiritual leader.

My captors had treated me with courtesy and respect (despite my bad behaviour) and so, in turn, I kept my word and set out to study their religion. It was supposed to be an academic venture but as I became more engrossed with each page I turned, I became more impressed with what I read.

I turned to several eminent Islamic academics, including Dr Zaki Badawi, for advice and instruction. I was even given several books by the notorious Sheikh Abu Hamza Al-Masri who I spoke to after sharing a platform at an Oxford Union debate.

This latter snippet was seized upon by some sections of the media in such a ridiculous fashion that outsiders could be forgiven for thinking I was going to open a Madrassah for Al-Qaida recruits from my flat in Soho.
It earned me a place on a ‘Watch on Terror’ website in America, so I’m probably now classed as a subversive by those incompetent spooks from US intelligence agencies.
I have also listened to and spoken with Dr Muhammad Al-Massari and had a very enlightening lunch recently with three sisters from Hizb ut-Tahrir.
One of the most useful reference points for me has been the New Muslim Project chat site on the Internet, which has given me access to others who, like myself, are in the process of converting.

Thankfully the support and understanding I have been given from my brothers and sisters (for I regard them as that) has been unstinting and comforting. Not one of them has put pressure on me to become a Muslim and every convert/revert I’ve spoken to has urged me to take my time.

One of the big turning points for me happened earlier this year when the Israelis began shelling The Church of the Nativity in Manger Square . . . one of the most precious monuments for Christians.

Every year thousands of school children re-enact the Nativity at Christmas time, a potent symbol of Christianity. Yet not one Church of England leader publicly denounced the Israelis for their attack.

Our Prime Minister Tony Blair, who loves to be pictured coming out of church surrounded by his family, espousing Christian values, was silent. Only the Pope had the guts to condemn this atrocity. I was shocked and saddened and felt there was no backbone or conviction among the C of E religious leaders.

At least with Islam I need no mediator or conduit to rely upon, I can have a direct line with God anytime I want.

While I feel under no pressure by Muslims to convert/revert there has been real pressure to walk away from Islam from some friends and journalists who like to think they’re cynical, hard-bitten, hard-drinking, observers of the world. Religion of any form makes them feel uneasy – but Islam, well that’s something even worse.

You’d think I had made a pact with the devil or wanted to become a grand wizard in the Ku Klux Klan. Others feared I was being brainwashed and that I would soon be back in my burqa, silenced forever like all Muslim women.

This, of course, is nonsense. I have never met so many well-educated, opinionated, outspoken, intelligent, politically aware women in the Muslim groups I have visited throughout the UK.

Feminism pales into insignificance when it comes to the sisterhood, which has a strong identity and a loud voice in this country.
Yes, it is true that many Muslim women around the world are subjugated, but this has only come about through other cultures hi-jacking and misinterpreting the Qur’an.
I wish I had this knowledge (and I’m still very much a novice) when I was captured by the Taliban, because I would have asked them why they treated their own women so badly.
The Qur’an makes it crystal clear that all Muslims, men and women are entirely equal in worth, spirituality and responsibility. Allah ordained equality and fairness for women in education and opportunity, at least that is my understanding.

Fair property law and divorce settlements were introduced for Muslim women 1500 years ago – maybe this is where Californian divorce lawyers got their inspiration from in recent years!

The Qur’an could have been written yesterday for today. It could sit very easily with any Green Party manifesto, it is environmentally friendly and it is a true inspiration for the 21st century, yet not one word has changed since the day it was written – unlike other religious tomes bent on courting popularity.

“It’s more punk than punk rock,” musician Aki Nawaz of the band Fun’da’mental recently told me. And, of course he is right.

Yvonne Ridley is a freelance journalist and a peace campaigner. Her book, In The Hands of the Taliban, is published by Robson Books, price £6.99.

People cant we ever read an article objectively and respect each others Faith? . The article above just implied the fastest growing religion in america and tried to explain its compability with american values. Simple as that. It is a fact Islam is growing at a very fast rate in the very heart of the worlds super power, bearing in mind this growth trebbled after 9/11. I think the intelligent thing to do is to simply research why this is happening and not just confuse the local cultures and traditions with islam.

In the west people see the real islam devoid of cultural practices and tradition and the submit but we africans see the local cultures and practices and thinks its islam.

The more people attack Islam the more people research into it and some convert to islam.

Muslims should respect Christians and Christians should respect muslims and lets live in peace.

Please read the article in my next thread.
Crime / 2 Pastors Allegedly Behind Beheading Of 11 Yr Old Girl by lammie01: 1:44pm On Dec 10, 2008
Two pastors in Udu Local Government, Delta State have been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of an 11-year-old girl. She was allegedly killed for money-making rituals.

The girl, identified as Loveth Balogun, was beheaded last Saturday in Egini, allegedly by her uncle.

The suspect has been arrested and is being detained at the Ovwian-Aladja Police Station.

But two pastors of a new generation church in the community were picked up following confessional statements by the prime suspect shortly after his arrest.

A source told our correspondent that the victim had been living with her father’s elder brother, Mr. Collins Balogun, before her death.

On the fateful day, one of her uncles lured her away shortly before midday under the pretext that he wanted to send her on an errand.

"He took her to a nearby bush where he cut off her head and abandoned her headless body. He made away with the head hidden in a shopping bag," the source said.

But nemesis caught up with him when a member of the community sighted him wielding the bloodied cutlass afterwards. The terror-stricken resident raised the alarm that attracted other members of the community.

"He was brandishing the cutlass dangerously, but when he saw youths from the community pouring out, he threw away the bag, where the head of the young girl was discovered," the source added.

The suspect, who absconded from the community, was later arrested by Egini youths who mobilised to nearby communities in frantic search for the suspect. He was found on Sunday.

Police spokesman Charles Muka said four persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.

He said the police would ensure that all the culprits were brought to book.

the grief-stricken mother of the child, Mrs. Patience Balogun, who also confirmed the report, urged the police to unmask all those involved in the dastardly act.

The woman said she was forced to take the late Loveth and her siblings to their paternal family in September, when her brothers-in-law allegedly refused to let her benefit from the entitlements paid by her late husband’s employers, Saipem Nigeria Limited.

I think we have to let this man complete the ernomous task ahead of him. Over praising him would distract this man and like an earlier post talking of what happened to Ribadu. Fashola is human and over praising him would reduce the thirst and drive that has gotten him to where he his. No doubt his efforts should be acknowledged but the many complex problems of Lagos have to be brought to his attention and not talking of a presidency in 7 yrs time.

When he starts to devote his attention to 2015 when would he have time to concentrate to to govern the people of Lagos!!
Politics / Re: Do Muslims Have Any Moral Justification To Sue For Peaceful Co- Existence? by lammie01: 1:45pm On Dec 09, 2008
Fellas Pls this is an intellectual forum i really dont see any sense in attacking the religion of Islam. We are talking of the jos riots but there were casualties on both sides. There was a report on BBC of 300 dead bodies been brought to the mousque, there was a report in the Sun newspapers of 2 widows that thier husbands were butchered. Killing of the innocent is a crime and both sides are guilty of it. it takes 2 to tango. I remember the days of Zamani Lekwot and the Zango kataf in the Kaduna of old.

This riots always stem from political difference and not always based on ideological difference.

naijaking1:

I agree with you here. Remember that the Shehu, himself( Othman Dan Fodio) invaded the Hausa states because he claimed that the king of Gobir for example was not practicing pure islam. That was his only reason for sacking the Hausas with help from his north African brothers of course. However, after overthrowing these states, he replaced them with his family members as emirs, and they became even worse than the original Hausaa.

For someone to sit here and talk of usman dan Fodio putting his family in power and so on just shows the lack of intellectual depth in analysis of history. I urge you to go read more on him.

Religious riots are a terrible things and meaningless in our society but for some one to state this in a topic"Do muslims have a moral justification to sue for peaceful co existence" For goodnes sake are the muslim majority in states like Oyo, Osun, Lagos and vast number in Ogun not living peacefully with the chirstians? Or did prophet of Islam (PBUH) not live peacefully with christians and jews in Medina. Please lets read wide and not just base our arguements on emotional outburst.

It is true the Northern part of Nigeria is a bit behind in terms of education compared to the south but this is a case of political injustice meted out to the north by the northern leaders themselves.

JosBoy4Lif:

These riots are perpetrated by highly educated Northen Muslims.
Do you think that Osama Bin Laden is a daft? But is he the one blowing himself up in the name of Allah? No it is the illiterate Muslims

Islamic followers are very easy prey for these educated northern muslims, because they can be easily manipulated.
Islam is a religion that virtually takes away ones free will, so if some powerful imam/poltician told you that it is the will of Allah to kill Christians it would not be difficult for one to succumb.

We need to educate the Northen Masses that is the only way we will fight this power struggle.

The leader of 9/11 Muhammed Attah had a PHD from Hamburg univeristy in Germany, Khalid Sheikh the masterminder of 9/11 presently in Guantonamo had a degree from the US, Ahmed Siddique Khan the leader of the 7/7 in UK had a university degree and was a qualified teacher, Shahzad tanveer also had a university degree. Please read your facts before you just come here with emotional outburst.

@Bastage

The point I am making is simple. It doesnt need to be personalised this thread is about the what happened in India if we personalise it  we should say whats my problem with india and not contribute to the thread. A soul is a soul whether its in Colombia where the FARC rebels terrorises and kidnappes innocent westerners or if its a soul killed by ETA separatist in spain. A human soul killed is the same everywhere and when an innocent person is killed unjustly it is wrong.

Attacking the religion of islam here is wrong. If you want to attack go to the religious forum and attack not here in the politics forum.

After 9/11 and btw then and now about 33000 amrican citizens converted to Islam. That is not a small number and the reason why they converted was they didnt just sit back with the knee jerk reaction of castigating the entire religion rather they felt this religion has to be studied and they spoted the difference between the action of some and the religion itself.

Terrorism is terrorism be it by american planes that killed innocent civilians in Syria few weeks back or by ETA separitist in spain.

The IRA is a recognised terrorist entity. How many bombings were carried out by the IRA in england - several of them. The PKK separatist in Turkey kill innocent civilians. The Tamil Tigers in Sri lanka are the pioneer of modern suicide bombings - they are not muslims. Pls i could go on and on.

The whole point is dont castigate an entire religion you could condemn the act but condeming the religion of Islam is myopic in intelligence.

Should the Christian religion be castigated because some pastors kill innocent children accusing them of withcraft of course the answer is NO.

Should the entire Jewish religion be castigated because of zionism?

Should the entire Nigerian nation be called fraudsters because of the many fraudulents acts perpetrated by thousands of Nigerians?
Foreign Affairs / Re: Islamic Terrorists Rock India by lammie01: 2:11pm On Nov 27, 2008
Killing of the innocent ones is wrong in all ramification!!!!

Guys pls some of this comments are very offending to a persons religion. There are terrorist everywhere . In India there are hindu terrorist who destroyed a mousque bulit about 700 years ago, there are hindu terrorist who killed innocent muslims in Kashmir.

In the UK the IRA were a catholic sect and they were nothing but terrorist who terrorised the whole of Englan in the 90's( I live in the UK). There are jewish terrorist who went into a mousque and killed dozens of muslims when the way praying. His name was Goldstein (if i am not mistaken). Also there are muslims who kill people they feel conspire aginst them.

For you lot to sit here and attack the religion of Islam is so myopic in reasoning and intelligence. The only reason why the Islamic ones are more prominent in the media is because they are the most successful ones at it.

@codered
For someone to say "this smelly hairy people" is just too bad and does nothing but widens the religious animosity and divide. There 1.2 billion muslims on earth today and are they all killers on innocents?

Are the innocents children being killed in Afghanistan ,Iraq and Palestine by American and isrealii soldies make all americans terrorists?

Do the wicked pastors who kill innocent children in Nigeria accusing them of witchcraft make Christians a bunch of evil people?

We should all come out of our emotions and reason with intelligence.

Killing of the innocent is wrong in any ramification!!
Politics / Otedola Donates 1 Billion Naira To Pdp , Dangote 3biliion. May God Help The Poor by lammie01: 8:50am On Nov 19, 2008
In the midst of yawing poverty and inadequate infrastructure, over N6 billion was raised yesterday by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) towards the building of a new national secretariat complex in Abuja.
The fund raising ceremony, which witnessed a massive turn out of the party’s big wigs from across the country, saw businessman Femi Otedola, donating N1 billion.
Another businessman, Aliko Dangote promised to supply cement worth N3 billion towards the construction of the secretariat.
Other major donations made towards the construction of the secretariat include: the PDP National Central Working Committee – N1 billion; Princess Bola Shagaya – N25 million; Chief Michael Otedola (father of Femi Otedola) – N25 million; Strabag Construction Company – N100 million; Ogun State – N10 million; and an anonymous donor – N100 million.
Meanwhile President Umaru Yar’Adua and Vice President Goodluck Jonathan contributed the sums of N527,205 and N454,735, representing 15% of their basic salaries respectively.
The donations by the President and his VP conformed with a statement from the vice president’s office yesterday, that political office holders in the three tiers of government are expected to contribute 15 percent of their basic salaries towards the fund raising.
The vice president who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ima Niboro said the organising committee for its fund-raising dinner had not asked any PDP state governor to donate public funds to the party.
“The party only directed the state governors to collate all contributions and donations from political office holders in their states for onward delivery to the committee on the day of the launch.”
The Vice President is the chairman of the fundraising dinner, which is targeting N10 billion for the construction of its national secretariat to be sited at the Central Business District of Abuja.
Niboro stressed: “For the avoidance of doubt, I want to state categorically state that at no time did the party or the organising committee headed by the Vice President ever ask or direct any state governor or any other public office holder for that matter, to appropriate public funds as donations towards the PDP dinner.
“This clarification has become necessary because there are misconceptions in some quarters that the PDP through the committee headed by the Vice President has directed governors of the party to each donate N50 million from the public coffers as mandatory contributions for the proposed party secretariat.”
He explained all the political office holders who are members of the PDP in the three tiers and arms of government are to contribute 15 per cent of their basic salaries for one year.
He further stressed that this percentage deduction when summed up state by state is between N50 and N100 million per a state, adding “based on our template, we found that such levies would yield reasonable funds for the project.
“In a small state like Bayelsa, we found that the party should be able to raise close to N50 million. In a bigger states like Sokoto whose template we used, we should be able to raise close to N100 million if political office holders contribute 15 percent of their basic salaries for one year towards the project.”
It will be recalled that the National Chairman of the party, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor had confirmed last week that each of its 28 state governors were to contribute N50 million towards the construction of its new national secretariat.
Ogbulafor spoke against the backdrop of reports that the party had compulsorily mandated its governors to contribute N50 million each, towards the building of the secretariat.
Addressing newsmen on the 10th year anniversary of the party, he said PDP only asked the governors to “source the funds from friends, well wishers and members of the PDP who can donate freely and voluntarily.”

Donors,

Femi Otedola – N1 billion

Aliko Dangote – Cement worth N3 billion

PDP NCWC – N1 billion

Princess Bola Shagaya – N25m

Chief Michael Otedola – 25m

Strabag Construction – 100m

Ogun State – N10m

Anonymous Donor – N100m

President Umaru Yar’Adua –N527,205(Representing 15% of basic salary)

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by lammie01: 4:20pm On Nov 17, 2008
AW i feel should have bought a more versatile and experienced Center back rather than Silvestre. We suffered from this position last season and we are agin this season. Gunners remember the "Senderos the weakling". AW just needs a Yahya toure in the holding position.

The team i also feel has a psycological problem. The team has to look inwards and not blame opponents for playing behind the ball. Bentnder for me isnt good enough. I dnt understand why Frabegas should be tired when its only 13 games in the season. AW has to look at himself and questions himself and accept some fair critisism. The guy is stubborn but still a fantastic manager and would not swap him for anyone.

Gunner for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Politics / Re: Niger Delta Should Have Full Resource Control: Yes or No? by lammie01: 3:06pm On Nov 04, 2008
I am not from the North but from the south. I keep wondering why southerners or in particular the Niger Deltans keep blaming the north for the acknowledged underdevelopment in the area. Blame the military and not the North as a region. I am not a fan of military rule but why were the southerners not as brave as the northerners in executing coups? At least during the military rule it was free for all – the best, bravest and intelligent officers execute successful coup de etat. When the Niger deltans in the military saw lack of development why did they not take over the reins of power in those days (praise to Gideon Orkah who tried but died a brave man).

Putting that aside in the last 8 years the region benefited from 13% derivation which translated to about 12 to 13 billion naira monthly going to states like Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa every month. Please any sane minded person would know that this kind of money can build significant and substantial infrastructure to the region. Why did the governors and leaders betray their people. Why cant the militants kidnap these governors and make them cough out the legitimate right of the people rather than kidnap innocent foreign workers for paltry ransoms.

I sympathise with the common people of the region and I urge them to start solving their problems by looking inwards first. The NDDC has been headed by a son of the region yet no significant development despite huge sums of money.

If the region is given total control today people like Odili and Ibori would still emerge the leaders and would loot Niger Delta to hell but at least the North wouldn’t be blamed this time.
Travel / Re: Building A Rapid Mass Transit System (Metro-Rail) In Lagos by lammie01: 5:26pm On Nov 03, 2008
Very nice and informtaive article. I bet those in power know all these ideas but they tell us its the funds. Fellas how is it possible to realisitcally generate funds for thise projects. Lagos i suppose generates 10 billion naira monthly.

I also suggest if Lagos can be left to operate the Lagos ports and airports then the revenue could be diverted towards all these wonderful projects but we need sincere people in govt so they dont divert these monies into private pockets.

Fellas do you think Fashola could be classified as one of the sincere ones in power? I am not in Niger and libe in the Uk so might not be able to tell.

PepERSprAY:

What is this suppose to mean. Who says corruption is a divine thing. Imagine all our looters called leaders saying this statement, what furure do we have for Nigerians.

Pls what makes him perfect for the job? Is it his mastery for looting or perfection for deception or his excellence for diverting away from real issue?
Sports / Re: Nigeria In U-17 World Cup U-turn by lammie01: 10:58am On Oct 30, 2008
Why are some pple praising yaradua for hosting the youth cup? What has this got to do with governance. The oil price went down and the budget needed to be revised hence the reason why spending had to be curbed. What is spectacular about what happened that demands praise for this man that has no clue where to progress Nigeria to.

A man after 18 months in government cannot boast of one achievement resulting from his policies apart from the rhetoric 7 point agenda which is meaningless. The rhetoric of "rule of law" where EFCC files are missing and currpot governors having the base at Aso rock. "Rule of law" where innocent journalist are arrested by SSS and detained without trial.

Pls yaradua has been nothing but a failure, he his a master at deciet and camouflaging like his predeccessor OBJ.

Bankole is a guy who was educated in UK univerisities - Reading and oxford, went for a certificate course at havard in Public finance 3 years ago and now allegedly looting public finance. It is sickening, disgusting and demoralising what theses politicians do. No matter the background, exposure or education greed is just the problem. Pls the satan should not be blamed here it is the greed of our politicians.

The upcomming generation in my opinion worse than the present ones. It is our genaration that has yahoo boys, JAMB cheats, WAEC cheats and we are supposedly the leaders of tommorrow. It is only a sincere revolution against the order of the day that can solve our problems because curroption is celebrated in our society. Even if a person goes into government with good intentions it is the same society that would put pressure on him to meet all thier financial demands and the person results to stealing public funds. This only accounts for probably 1% as most politicians go into govt for the sole aim of looting.

I repeat theses rogues ought to be exterminated to the abyss of extinction only then would future leaders fear to steal. They would know that if the steal they would only enjoy that wealth in the graves otherwise i see no solution to these poison called corruption.

Religion / Re: Is God Deaf? by lammie01: 4:29pm On Oct 24, 2008
How come the early christians never used to shout and scream like the current pentecostal churches. The anglican, Catholic, Methodist never used to worship like this. Its only in the last 20 yrs we have witnessed this new phenomenum. Imagine people praying and shouting as if there is war in the worship ground. God sees what is in a persons heart and u dont need to shout and do all the stunts before He sees you. Its all these hyponotism and hullaballoo that makes all these naive people empty their pockets to an already stupendously rich pastor and some would even trek back home.
Religion / Re: Do Nigerians Really Know God? by lammie01: 2:40pm On Oct 24, 2008
@Obinaa5000
The truth is Nigerians accepted Islam and christianity but majority of the people never left the fetish and traditional beliefs. We are the most hypocritical nation on earth thats why we are making no progress. Religion is meant to be a way of life and reform but unfortunately it is our pockets that reform us.
