I always tuned in to Cruise Control when Frank Edoho ran the program. By the time Kamal took over I'd gotten busy and lost interest in Radio programmes. Say, does anyone know the title of Cruise Control theme song?

Damn! Can't get the song outta my head grin

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Tinder, Badoo and those other dating app profile are deceptive by Lantean(m): 3:31pm On Jan 24
"Here for fun"๐Ÿ™„
"Short term to long term"๐Ÿ™„
"Long term to short term"๐Ÿ™„
"Just here for fun"๐Ÿ™„

All those expressions just confuse some people. They're confusing because their interpretations could be anything.

For instance, "Here for fun", are you looking for fun friends.. dare-devil friends who like extreme activities or sports๐Ÿ˜•

Does "Short term to long term" mean dating that leads to long-term relationship. Well that's just nonsense because, if you're dating someone, you're already in a relationship (of sorts).๐Ÿ˜ก

Then there's "Long term to short term". How on Earth is a long-term relationship turned into a short-term relationship? ๐Ÿ˜ง

"Just here for fun" my interpretation of this is one night stands. ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿคจ Which seems astounding that someone longs for being made out as a toilet.

I'm old school, so (the slang we used then was "wake up"wink i no "wake up". But make una enlighten me because one fine girl wey I dey chat with just ghost me after I asked what she meant by "Just in for the fun"?

I simply responded with:
"Fun? That's cryptic and vague. Is that like a one night stand."

Now, she no gree talk to me again o

I feel it's very unusual the sender didn't provide an email address instead.

It is a scam. Do not put any of your US relative into problem.
The check would be issued in excess ( more than the agreed amount). Thr catch is that, the scammer will ask you to take the agreed amount and the remaining would be sent to his picker in US or any other means.

I know about this because I work as a freelancer on freelancer.com.

Thanks. You're a life saver. I can't believe I would have spent weeks on some project that i wouldn't get paid for and also bother some people about it. When I could be busy with my portfolio projects. ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก

Webmasters / US Client Wants Name And Address Of US Resident For Cheque Before On Project by Lantean(m): 3:00pm On Dec 24, 2023
It's my first remote freelance gig. A client in the US wants to give me a project to do for him at an agreed amount. He wants me to take full control of development and other matters relating to the project, right after payment. The problem is that he wants me to send a friend's or relative's name and address who's resident in the United States. I'm in Nigeria and this being my first gig, I don't want to lose the opportunity (the money, of course). I'm afraid I may lose him if I say I know no one in the US because I really don't. I'm thinking of proposing he pays for the template, send me the file, I get to work and commit my changes to Git and demo on the web. When it's completed he can pay me while I hand over ownership to him. But this we'll seem like postponing the inevitable. I have a bank account which I had hoped would have been ideal. What do I do?

It's sad to hear your friend lost money to a scammer. But there's a better and more effective way to catch the criminal.
Write a petition (which is a formal letter of complaint about the person). Explain in brief how it happened. You'll need your statement of account from the bank, if it was a transfer transaction. Otherwise, you'll need to submit the original proof of transacting with the criminal. Include any proof of your communication and other damning evidences. Make a complete copy of all the documents intended for submission.
Now, put the original copies in a paper bag. Take the copies along.
Go to EFCC office in Ikoyi to submit the application.

Webmasters / Advice For Web Developers NOT Getting Freelance Work by Lantean(m): 5:00pm On Jun 30, 2018
Are you not getting freelance jobs, contracts or whatever you want to call them?

Seek opinion. You can seek out opinion from experts on social media, groups etc.
You may try Reddit.

I have. But brace yourself. Some of the opinions will be BRUTAL. But don't take them personal. Listen to the points they make. Everyone of them counts for your improvement.

Help sort out this code

Hello freelancenig.
You didn't tell what you have as the error message coupled with what you want to accomplish.

However:
$check_user should be $fname NOT '$fname'. The latter is a literal string rather than a variable which you intend for the spot.
In $data_insert, you did the same to the post variables. E.g. $fname NOT '$fname'. Do same correction for the other variables.

A friend and i were discussing indigenous dotcom businesses. (Yeah.. true. We've a lot of time on our hands). Anyhow, when i mentioned Nairaland, he was like.. "Ugh!, No direction". Although, i gave him a hard time for being a StackOverflow, Reddit, WarriorForum and DigitalPoint guy but he did state some points in defense. But it had me pondering if i hadn't been sentimental as a typical Nigerian.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Five Questions You Should Ask During An Interview by Lantean(m): 2:58pm On Mar 08, 2016
Duuude, (presuming you're a guy) I believe you got this of the web.
Well, here's my opinion:
nairalandbuzz:
1. What skills and experiences would make an ideal candidate?
This woulda been answered in the Job description, before you applied. But if you make a mistake of asking so at the interview, damn, you'll be passing yourself off as a slowpoke/idiot/fool (take a pick, they all mean the same), or you're trying to impress the interviewer which is lame and desperate, or you didn't read the advert thoroughly before applying and that makes you look negligent. Now why would a would-be employer employ a slowpoke, low self esteem, or negligent person.

nairalandbuzz:
2. What is the single largest problem facing your staff?
and...
nairalandbuzz:
6. Can you tell me about the team Iโ€™ll be working with?
You either get a "... you'll know that when you join us " or you've made the interviewer annoyed 'cos you've just told him that if he can't answer that at all, then he is very incompetent.
Now why should you pass the interview when you can turn out to be a nosy guy or one who thinks his a smart asss.

nairalandbuzz:
3. What do you like most about working here?
That question is outright RUDE. The interviewer might be amused and even tell you you're a funny chap. But did he's gonna hate your guts cos you just put him on the spot rather than the other way round.
Forget it, you've already lost the job without getting it at all.

nairalandbuzz:
4. How has this position evolved since it was created?
My opinion is same as above. Additionally, you're asking a very technical question from probably the most inappropriate personnel.

nairalandbuzz:
5. What constitutes success in this position and in this organisation?
and...
nairalandbuzz:
7. What is the top priority of the person in this position over the next three months?
For you, the employee, meeting given targets, carrying out your duties efficiently bearing in mind the attainment of organizations objectives. You'll be expected to know this
If you ask this at all, you MUST BE VERY SLOW.

What I suggest is, just dress appropriately, read up about the company before the interview, take relevant materials with you, relax and just be confident.
When I attend interviews, this is what I think before I go in: They can throw a hundred questions at once at me, I'll set the pace because I can only answer one at a time. They may laugh at me during the session over something, I will still hold their gaze, undeterred cos i 'm not amused. They ain't gonna kill me, 'worst they can say is they'll keep me informed of their decision (mild way of saying i failed the interview). It's their loss, I'm moving on.

Finally, employers don't like arrogant interviewees/employees. Not even in GTBank where you got that post from. So no one who asks any of the above questions during an interview will find favour with the interviewers but I stand corrected.

My sis had it way back and she was advised to use breast milk but she couldn't get(I ain't sure of its potency though), She ended up using water and sugar, Get a clean bowl and pour little water, add little sugar to it and make sure it dissolves entirely, Make sure your hands are clean before administering it to your eyes though, I guarantee you, after 2days,you should be good, Best of luck!

First of all, don't be alarmed if some day I hug you tight and kiss you for the above. 'Guess I'll have to find you first to do that.
The sugar solution worked like magic. Infact, I've been staring at my laptop screen for hours reading and my eyelids don't feel heavy at all.
'Better than finding breast milk.... eeeee yeeeww! Lol Besides who on Earth's gonna dish out that. Except, a wife to her husband or a girlfriend to her boyfriend. 'Still won't change the fact, that "breast + milk" = Grooooss.
Once again, thanks for the tip.

Pro-targeted books like what sir Cos I am teaching myself too with beginner's book
First of all, consider pro-targeted in quotes. it's a marketing ploy. Secondly, anyone can be a "Pro". So to become one, learn more about a language and try solving problems by yourself.
Lastly: (1)Expert MySQL by Charles Bell.
(2)Pro PHP Application Performance - Tuning PHP Web Projects For Maximum Performance by Armando Padilla and Tim Hawkins
(3) Pro PHP MVC by Chris Pitt.

PS: Don't read books only. Practise by building a website and improve the backend as you deem fit. Good luck

Say what you like here is the what I culled from islamic dico -- Dictionary of Islam,[3] talk of jihad having two meanings: an inner spiritual struggle (the "greater jihad"wink, and an outer physical struggle against the enemies of Islam (the "lesser jihad"wink[3][8] which may take a violent or non-violent form.
Good call - quoting. While you're searching the web for argument points you should also find out which Islamic resource has the most authority and what you think The Book implies about deference to authority(Quran 4:59).
While you're "Googling" that, bear in mind that just because a bunch of fools call themselves Muslims, it doesn't make them so. Attestation to the oness of Allah is one of a multitude of things that make you one. Rather, they have violated one of the Articles of Faith - heeding the Prophet's warning of abiding by the Quran's instructions one of which is: submission to authority(government) hence violating Quran 4:59.

No Jihad doesn't involve killing people.
