Romance / How Stress Ruins Your Love Life! by Levandergora: 6:03pm On Feb 20, 2019 |
Hello, Well People of Nairaland. Do you know that one of the greatest killers of romance between couples is Stress? Indeed, stress, for a lot of people, acts as a depressant. It causes many to lose interest in the activities they once enjoyed with their partners. Stress has even been known to drastically reduce the libido which is the urge to have sex with one's partner. A lot of relationships start to head toward the end when one or both partners start to experience great stress from work, family, responsibilities, expectations and even Lagos traffic (Lagos people know how bad the traffic has got lately). Stress doesn't have to be the end of your love, people! Here are a few ways to manage your stress and give yourself and your partner a better quality of life. 1) Sleep: People say no rest for the wicked but are you wicked? Lol. Getting good sleep is key for keeping stress levels in check. 6-8 hours a night on the minimum is good. It is even better when you are holding/being held by your lover. 2) cook right, eat right: not everytime rice and chicken! Please there is a whole world of fruits and veggies to be tried. Balancing out your diet across the different food groups so you can get as many nutrients as you possible is a good idea. Lagosians eat a lot of rice, too much salt and oils. Rice goes with so many vegetable soups and raw veggies so there's no reason why you can't still eat healthy. And cooking with your lover is also another fun and sexy thing you guys can get up to. 3) Regular Massages: so if a person's body is rubbed, by the same person, for a period of time, feel-good hormones are released and this is really great for destressing. But do you know what is better? You and your lover getting a massage together. Both parties dismiss the stress and afterwards, find themselves in the best mood for getting into some other fun activities together. Massages once in a while are nice but they are most effective in handling stress when the massages are done regularly. Watch out for part two of this post later! To destress, pls book your regular massages from us, LevanderGora Wellness Call 08188250819. Mail levandergora.ng@gmail.com We regularly give discounts and promos, so follow us on Instagram and Twitter @levandergora to get these updates! LevanderGora... BE well! ❤️

Romance / How To Service Your Lover's Body For FREE This Christmas! by Levandergora: 11:27am On Dec 17, 2017 |
Hello, Nairalanders! Compliments of the Season! Last year, a young lady had noticed that her man had suddenly developed a bad temper. He had become difficult to live with. He was always grouchy and irritable. Even on the occassional weekends when he had nowhere to go, he preferred to stay locked away in the room, trying to get some of the sleep he had lost and ultimately hiding away from his fam. She decided to seek out advice from friends and family. Cook for him, one said. She thought of all the delicious meals he had refused to eat more than a few spoonfuls of. "Dress sexily and remember the other room everyday!", another suggested. But she thought of how he had been insisting that he was fatigued and knew instinctively that sex wasn't the problem. Different suggestions came but none were what she needed. Until..! One day, a 43 year old male collegue of hers was telling the office that he had just been serviced and how he felt like a young'un again. She walked up to him privately to ask what had caused such a change. Happily, he declared "The secret is a good ol' massage! Works like a charm". Immediately, she dashed off to book her husband a massage for that weekend. A week later and he had a renewed spring in his step! He was happy and she was happy too! And that is why as Christmas draws near and many of us go off work till early January, after a whole year of work and life wahala, LevanderGora, your friendly neighborhood massage therapists, are here with a way to love yours and your lover's body right during these holidays! Book a super-relaxing Swedish Massage for yourself and get a FREE massage for your loved one this Christmas! That's 2 Swedish Massages for the price of ONE!!! Business / Find Peace, Find Solutions by Levandergora: 7:42pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
Hello, dear Nairalanders! Do you know that a scattered mind can solve no problems? Massage therapists know how important the job of relaxing the mind and body is. When people are calm, they are more likely to see the way out of whatever problems they are faced with... but many find it hard to calm down, breathe and find the peace they need. If you find it really hard to calm down, relax, quiet your mind or sleep, you are not alone. Many business people complain of their minds never taking a break. Some say their minds are always "talking". Silencing the mind and finding peace literally takes training for most people but it is okay. A weekly massage can help to begin the process of finding your peace. That is why we are wishing you peace as the work week crosses the half-way mark. May you find the answers you seek. May everything come beautifully together for you. - From your friendly neighbourhood massage therapists, LevanderGora Wellness... BE well! 08188250819

Health / Dealing With A Tired Mind by Levandergora: 7:08pm On Jan 09, 2016 |
Happy New Year, Nairalanders! Missed us? Because we sure have missed us. The festive period always gives way to a very busy January. So, we saw a post online that we thought is helpful and are here to share. 4 Things To Do When Your Brain Is Tired by Polly Campbell. Enjoy! --- Lately, I’ve been physically exhausted by 7 p.m. Just plain tired. Yet it’s not like I’ve run a marathon or anything: Most days I’ve just tossed in a couple of loads of laundry, between sessions of wall ball with my daughter, and between phone interviews, blog posts, magazine assignments, copy edits, and invoicing, which happens just after a short workout and before I cook dinner. Like most people, I’ve got a full summer schedule. And for all the flexibility I have with how I spend my time, I wind up using it all. There are very few breaks in my day to unwind. That’s not a good thing. In fact, the physical fatigue I feel at the end of the day has more to do with my mental exhaustion than any exercise I’m getting. And that kind of mental tiredness can sneak up on anyone. Causes of Mental Fatigue Mental exhaustion isn’t necessarily the result of things gone wrong, or any big upset (though it can be) but more likely an accumulation of too much: Too many decisions. Too much work (in not enough time). Too many interruptions, demands, and shifts in attention. Too many things going on without time to pause and restore. This kind of mental tiredness knocks us back when the volume of tasks and activities we’ve taken on exceeds our capacity to comfortably handle the stress (even the positive stress) of it all. Sometimes mental exhaustion can be a result of health issues: Depression, heart disease, chronic illness, and autoimmune disease can all lead to insomnia or trouble sleeping, which can cause mental fatigue. It may be worth checking out this angle with your doctor. But as for me, I sleep well, feel satisfied in my life, and yet, there are times when even the good stuff becomes taxing because there is just too much going on. The more mentally tired we become, the less capable we are of keeping up with the demands of the day. It becomes harder to make healthy decisions, stay focused on tasks, and remain calm. It can also become difficult to regulate our emotions. Over time, mental exhaustion can lead to full-blown burnout, physical issues, and stress-related illness. But, as soon as you realize why you are feeling so tired, you can take steps to restore and feel better fast. Signs of Mental Fatigue Mental fatigue can manifest in many ways: Physical fatigue. Your body feels tired and you’d rather curl up on the lawn chair with a margarita than head for a run at the end of the day, even though you spent most of your day sitting at a desk. Impatience and Irritability. You become snappish with others and may be more quickly triggered to anger or upset. Inability to concentrate or focus. It becomes harder to finish your work or tasks. You may find it more difficult to make decisions, find the right word, or focus on one job at a time. Four Ways to Ease Mental Fatigue How can we manage some of these more demanding days without letting them grind us down? Here are four suggestions: Make fewer decisions. We are faced with scores of decisions each day and by the end of all that decision-making, our mental energy and self-control can take a hit, according to research from Kathleen Vohs. Then we are more likely to make unhealthy decisions and do what feels easiest, like lay on the couch, rather than exercising or opting for a drive-through burger instead of cooking a healthy meal. One way to offset this dip in mental energy may be to limit your decisions during the day. Make the same coffee order every day. Eat the same dinner every Tuesday. By keeping some basic, routine decisions simple (or eliminating them altogether) we have more mental energy to deal with the rest of our days. Start seeing green. Take a mini-break and look out the window. Just one minute of looking at grassy rooftops reduced errors and improved concentration (link is external) among students, according to research from the University of Melbourne. “It’s really important to have micro-breaks,” says Dr. Kate Lee, who led the study. “It’s something that a lot of us do naturally when we’re stressed or mentally fatigued. There’s a reason you look out the window and seek nature: It can help you concentrate on your work and to maintain performance across the workday.” So take a break and gaze out at a green space or head for a brief stroll through the park during lunch. The break will help you feel restored and better able to focus on the tasks ahead. Just get up and go. Several studies show the value of exercise in boosting concentration and mental focus. (link is external) Twenty minutes can improve performance and short, intense exercise sessions can increase blood flow to the brain and improve your mood, memory, and creativity. Take time off. Whether it’s a mini-break or a week away, time off is essential to fighting mental fatigue. You can do this even on your busiest days by making sure you take a regular lunch break, or set aside 15 minutes with nothing planned to take a walk, or at least a breath. Then, each week, be sure to leave some time open and unplanned. Just don’t fill in all the slots on your calendar. That open time can give you a mental reprieve but also allows room for unexpected opportunities to develop. --- Hope you found this useful. Make January count but pay attention to your health. Call us on 08188250819 or look for LevanderGora on instagram/twitter/facebook or even here on Nairaland and drop us a message to book a massage to help relax your body and mind. LevanderGora... Career / Your Patience Vs Your Success by Levandergora: 7:45pm On Dec 03, 2015 |
Dear Nairaland working people, how are you this fine thursday night? How was work? Many of us work 9-5 jobs and wait eagerly for Friday evening when we can dump everything on our office desks and run home for some good rest! But here is the thing, do you know that it is better to wait patiently than to eagerly anticipate Friday? Here's the explanation: Patience is a virtue that allows you to be faced with all kinds of issues and yet look calmly into the future that you want whilst doing everything you can to get there. When you wait patiently for the day when you would no longer have to do all the wahala that comes with working for someone else, you can easily spot key opportunities for promotion in life that you will definitely miss if you spend your days looking at the clock eager for time to fly so that you can just go home! Everybody in the office waits for the day to end, but patience is not about waiting... it's about HOW you wait. So, yes, wait for the weekend and rest (if you are lucky and don't get dragged from one event to another!), but wait patiently so that you are calm and collected and do your job so well that your bosses and clients notice, because that is how to get promoted. Friday is almost here though, so all of us at LevanderGora say well done for all the work you have been putting in. It will all pay off in the end. Just BE patient and BE well! With all our love, LevanderGora... BE well! To Book A Massage, Call 08188250819!

Health / Are You Sure You Are Well?! by Levandergora: 12:44am On Nov 27, 2015 |
Hello, Well People of Nairaland! Thank God it's Friday! In celebration of another work week come to an end and the gift of having our lives as it does, we, your good friends at LevanderGora Wellness , decided to share this post by the University of California Student Health And Counseling Services. We always talk about wellness this and wellness that but only recently realised that many people limit wellness to literally being physically healthy. Please read on for what wellness truly means! Also call us on 08188250819 to book a massage for you or a loved one and kick your wellness levels or theirs up a notch! Happy reading! WHAT IS WELLNESS? Definition of Wellness: Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." - The World Health Organization. "a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential." - The National Wellness Institute Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. Why Wellness Matters: Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Wellness matters. Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions. Eight Dimensions of Wellness There are eight dimensions of wellness: occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual. Each dimension of wellness is interrelated with another. Each dimension is equally vital in the pursuit of optimum health. One can reach an optimal level of wellness by understanding how to maintain and optimize each of the dimensions of wellness. 1) Emotional Wellness- Emotional wellness relates to understanding your feelings and coping effectively with stress. It is important to pay attention to self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner resources so you can learn and grow from experiences. 2) Environmental Wellness- Environmental wellness encourages you to respect the delicate balance between the environment and yourself. Respect for other living things in our environment is just as necessary as respect for the physical environment itself. 3) Intellectual Wellness Intellectual wellness involves having an open mind when you encounter new ideas and continuing to expand your knowledge. It encourages active participation in scholastic, cultural and community activities. 4) Financial Wellness Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our lives and not having enough of it impacts health as well as academic performance. Financial stress is repeatedly found to be a common source of stress, anxiety and fear for a lot of people. 5) Occupational Wellness Occupational wellness is about enjoying your occupational endeavors and appreciating your contributions. This dimension of wellness encourages personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work. 6) Physical Wellness Physical wellness relates to maintaining a healthy body and seeking care when needed. Physical health is attained through exercise, eating well, getting enough sleep and paying attention to the signs of illness and getting help when needed. 7) Social Wellness Social wellness helps you preform social roles effectively and comfortably, and create a support network. This dimension of wellness allows you to not only develop encouraging relationships with peers, but also intimate relationships with romantic partners. Spiritual Wellness Spiritual wellness allows you to develop a set of values that help you seek meaning and purpose. Spirituality can be represented in many ways, for example, through relaxation or religion. But being spiritually well means knowing which resources to use to cope with issues that come up in everyday life. For more info, pls visit: https://shcs.ucdavis.edu/wellness/ LevanderGora... Health / Your Body Is Amazing! by Levandergora: 8:25pm On Sep 26, 2015 |
Hiya, Well People of Nairaland! How has the long weekend been? Hope that besides all the meat-eating and catching up, you are giving yourself some time to actually rest. You know that we "these massage people" are always insisting on our friends getting rest! Lol In the spirit of all the celebrations since Thursday, we thought we would put up this fun post written by Fitness Coach, Tom Kelso. Enjoy! 10 Awesome and Little-Known Facts About the Human Body Your body is many things: a mechanical device, a walking chemistry set, a sustainable life form, and an ever-changing biological phenomenon. There's a lot to know about the body. Were you aware of these ten amazing facts? 1. For every pound of fat gained, you add seven miles of new blood vessels. New tissue needs blood supply, so your vascular system expands to accommodate it. This also means your heart must work harder to pump blood through the new network, which may reduce oxygenation and nutrient replenishment in other tissues. Lose a pound? Your body will break down and reabsorb the unneeded blood vessels from the previous tissue. 2. Muscle tissue is three times more efficient at burning calories than fat. This is why possessing more muscle should be a training goal for most people. More muscle = more calories burned = less fat = being more fit looking. Simple goals and simple math. 3. You are taller in the morning than in the evening. When you crawl out of the sack in the morning you are at your tallest. On average, you are approximately one half inch taller when you wake in the morning, thanks to excess fluid between within your spinal discs. While you are sleeping, these fluids replenish. During the day your body has to deal with the stress of standing, so the discs become compressed and the fluid seeps out. This results in you losing a small amount of extra height. 4. Your stomach manufactures a new lining every three days to avoid digesting itself. As a part of the digestive process, your stomach secretes hydrochloric acid (HA). HA is a powerful corrosive compound also used to treat various metals. The HA your stomach secretes is also powerful, but mucous lining the stomach wall keeps it within the digestive system. As a result it breaks down the food you consume, but not your own stomach. 5. Your body produces enough heat in only thirty minutes to boil a half-gallon of water. Your body is the epitome of a study on the laws of thermodynamics. You produce heat from all that is going on - exercise, metabolizing food, maintaining homeostasis – and as you sweat, exhale, excrete, and urinate (lovely thoughts, all of them). 6. Human bone is as strong as granite, relative to supporting resistance. Would you believe a matchbox-size chunk of bone can support 18,000 pounds? Compared to concrete, human bone is four times greater in support strength. 7. Your skin is an organ. Just like the liver, heart, and kidneys, your outer covering is an organ. An average man has enough skin on his body to cover approximately twenty square feet. For an average woman it is approximately seventeen square feet. Approximately 12% of your weight is from your skin. And, your skin replaces 45,000+ cells in only a few seconds. It's constantly growing new skin and shedding old skin. 8. By the age of eighteen your brain stops growing. From that age forward it begins to lose more than 1,000 brain cells every day. Only two percent of your body weight is occupied by your gray matter, but is uses up to 20% of your overall energy output (it needs carbohydrates). Your brain works continuously and never rests, even when you're asleep. Aside from producing REM dreams, your brain works overtime to replenish its ability to function normally during your daytime waking hours. 9. There are more than 600 individual skeletal muscles and 206 bones in your body. If all 600+ muscles contracted and pulled in the same direction, you could lift over twenty tons of resistance. Additionally, the adult skeleton is composed of 206 bones, but at birth an infant skeleton contains approximately 350 bones. Over time, some of the 350 bones fuse together and eventually grow to the 206 adult figure. 10. You need to consume a quart of water each day for four months to equate to the amount of blood your heart pumps in one hour. Additionally, over a lifetime, at your normal (resting) heart rate you will have pumped enough blood to fill thirteen oil super tankers. To further expound on this fact, on average, your heart beats 40,000,000 times per year. Doing the math, over your lifetime (both men and women averaged), that results in 2,600,000,000 heartbeats (two billion, six hundred million). This does not even factor in your increased heartbeats due to your love of exercise. These are only ten things you probably did not know about body. Pretty amazing stuff! There is plenty more to know about the human body, and I recommend you discover these facts by being inquisitive. Are there any amazing facts about the human body that you’ve discovered? Please share in the comments. ------------ Remember, your body is a work of art. Nuture it. Take care of it. Love it! Book a massage. 08188250819. Tell a friend! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. BE well.

Health / For All Those Who "Don't Have Time To Sleep"... READ!!! by Levandergora: 10:17pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
Hiya, dear Nairalanders! It is Friday (TGIF!!!) and you have worked real hard this week. Well done! You have probably also not got the amount of sleep your body requires. As massage therapists, we at LevanderGora are always concerned by this problem. You should try as much as possible to make up for that sleep deficiency over the weekend! Pls don't take your body for granted. Sleep plays an important role in how your body survives the day-to-day stress inducers we face, especially in forever-busy-and-hectic Lagos. Massage helps to relax the body and makes sleep easier to find for those who always seem to have trouble finding it. You have probably heard some entrepreneurs, company execs or ogas at the top bragging about how they only sleep for 3 or 4 hours at night. While their bank accounts are certainly healthy , their bodies might not be. Below are the 10 things you should hate the most about sleep loss/deprivation (according to the webmd.com): You know lack of sleep can make you grumpy and foggy. You may not know what it can do to your sex life, memory, health, looks, and even ability to lose weight. Here are 10 surprising -- and serious -- effects of sleep loss. 1. Sleepiness Causes Accidents Sleep deprivation was a factor in some of the biggest disasters in recent history: the 1979 nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, the massive Exxon Valdez oil spill, the 1986 nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl, and others. But sleep loss is also a big public safety hazard every day on the road. Drowsiness can slow reaction time as much as driving drunk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that fatigue is a cause in 100,000 auto crashes and 1,550 crash-related deaths a year in the U.S. The problem is greatest among people under 25 years old. Studies show that sleep loss and poor-quality sleep also lead to accidents and injuries on the job. In one study, workers who complained about excessive daytime sleepiness had significantly more work accidents, particularly repeated work accidents. They also had more sick days per accident. 2. Sleep Loss Dumbs You Down Sleep plays a critical role in thinking and learning. Lack of sleep hurts these cognitive processes in many ways. First, it impairs attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning, and problem solving. This makes it more difficult to learn efficiently. Second, during the night, various sleep cycles play a role in “consolidating” memories in the mind. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to remember what you learned and experienced during the day. 3. Sleep Deprivation Can Lead to Serious Health Problems Sleep disorders and chronic sleep loss can put you at risk for: Heart disease Heart attack Heart failure Irregular heartbeat High blood pressure Stroke Diabetes Night Owls Run Higher Risk of Health Problems, Study Finds According to some estimates, 90% of people with insomnia -- a sleep disorder characterized by trouble falling and staying asleep -- also have another health condition. 4. Lack of Sleep Kills Sex Drive Sleep specialists say that sleep-deprived men and women report lower libidos and less interest in sex. Depleted energy, sleepiness, and increased tension may be largely to blame. For men with sleep apnea, a respiratory problem that interrupts sleep, there may be another factor in the sexual slump. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in 2002 suggests that many men with sleep apnea also have low testosterone levels. In the study, nearly half of the men who suffered from severe sleep apnea also secreted abnormally low levels of testosterone during the night. 5. Sleepiness Is Depressing Over time, lack of sleep and sleep disorders can contribute to the symptoms of depression. In a 2005 Sleep in America poll, people who were diagnosed with depression or anxiety were more likely to sleep less than six hours at night. The most common sleep disorder, insomnia, has the strongest link to depression. In a 2007 study of 10,000 people, those with insomnia were five times as likely to develop depression as those without. In fact, insomnia is often one of the first symptoms of depression. Insomnia and depression feed on each other. Sleep loss often aggravates the symptoms of depression, and depression can make it more difficult to fall asleep. On the positive side, treating sleep problems can help depression and its symptoms, and vice versa.[i] 6. Lack of Sleep Ages Your Skin Most people have experienced sallow skin and puffy eyes after a few nights of missed sleep. But it turns out that chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin, fine lines, and dark circles under the eyes. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol. In excess amounts, cortisol can break down skin collagen, the protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic. Sleep loss also causes the body to release too little human growth hormone. When we’re young, human growth hormone promotes growth. As we age, it helps increase muscle mass, thicken skin, and strengthen bones. [i]“It’s during deep sleep -- what we call slow-wave sleep -- that growth hormone is released,” says sleep expert Phil Gehrman, PhD. “It seems to be part of normal tissue repair -- patching the wear and tear of the day.” 7. Sleepiness Makes You Forgetful Trying to keep your memory sharp? Try getting plenty of sleep. In 2009, American and French researchers determined that brain events called “sharp wave ripples” are responsible for consolidating memory. The ripples also transfer learned information from the hippocampus to the neocortex of the brain, where long-term memories are stored. Sharp wave ripples occur mostly during the deepest levels of sleep. 8. Losing Sleep Can Make You Gain Weight When it comes to body weight, it may be that if you snooze, you lose. Lack of sleep seems to be related to an increase in hunger and appetite, and possibly to obesity. According to a 2004 study, people who sleep less than six hours a day were almost 30 percent more likely to become obese than those who slept seven to nine hours. Recent research has focused on the link between sleep and the peptides that regulate appetite. “Ghrelin stimulates hunger and leptin signals satiety to the brain and suppresses appetite,” says Siebern. “Shortened sleep time is associated with decreases in leptin and elevations in ghrelin.” Not only does sleep loss appear to stimulate appetite. It also stimulates cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods. Ongoing studies are considering whether adequate sleep should be a standard part of weight loss programs. 9. Lack of Sleep May Increase Risk of Death In the “Whitehall II Study,” British researchers looked at how sleep patterns affected the mortality of more than 10,000 British civil servants over two decades. The results, published in 2007, showed that those who had cut their sleep from seven to five hours or fewer a night nearly doubled their risk of death from all causes. In particular, lack of sleep doubled the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. 10. Sleep Loss Impairs Judgment, Especially About Sleep Lack of sleep can affect our interpretation of events. This hurts our ability to make sound judgments because we may not assess situations accurately and act on them wisely. Sleep-deprived people seem to be especially prone to poor judgment when it comes to assessing what lack of sleep is doing to them. In our increasingly fast-paced world, functioning on less sleep has become a kind of badge of honor. But sleep specialists say if you think you’re doing fine on less sleep, you’re probably wrong. And if you work in a profession where it’s important to be able to judge your level of functioning, this can be a big problem. “Studies show that over time, people who are getting six hours of sleep, instead of seven or eight, begin to feel that they’ve adapted to that sleep deprivation -- they’ve gotten used to it,” Gehrman says. “But if you look at how they actually do on tests of mental alertness and performance, they continue to go downhill. So there’s a point in sleep deprivation when we lose touch with how impaired we are.” To help put you in a restful state, correct some of the issues caused by your not sleeping well all week and help to relax your body and trigger off the production of helpful hormones in your body this weekend, pls call us on 08188250819 and book a massage for you and/or your loved one(s). Hi, Nairalanders! Good morning and TGIF! So last month, we partnered with the musician, Spaceship Boi, on his radio tour for his new single, Lover's Dance where he gave away a Couples Massage at each radio station he visited. We thought she would be getting the massage with her man but, alas, she shared the experience with her mother! We thought it was the sweetest thing ever, considering they were both in serious need of the super relaxing Swedish Massages they got! They enjoyed their massages and we enjoyed giving them the massages. Win-win! Pls go to @spaceshipboi on twitter and instagram to get info on how to get the song. Dating And Meet-up Zone / Swedish Massages: Lovers' Choice by Levandergora: 6:16pm On Sep 01, 2015 |
Hello, Well People! Like elsewhere in the world, most people in Nigeria, when given a choice of which massage to have, usually choose the Swedish Massage. In our experience in Lagos, it is also the massage most booked by people for their love interests or partners. This might be due to the fact its primary goal is to relax the entire body. Massage therapists accomplish this by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But... Swedish massage therapy does more than relaxation. It is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension. Don't you just think that is awesome?! People in relationships obviously do! It is the massage they either perform by themselves on their lovers or get people like us at LevanderGora Wellness to do for them. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (USA), conducted a study published in The New York Times. They found that volunteers who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. Volunteers also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system, and a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu. In our humble opinion, all the things mentioned above are brilliant gifts to give to someone you love. Swedish Massage Techniques Additional Swedish massage techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching. To get the most of a Swedish massage session, communication is encouraged with your professional massage therapist. This will help the therapist mold the session to suit your specific needs at the time. So tell your loved ones to talk when they are with the massage therapist you send to them! To book a Swedish Massage with us for yourself or that special someone, pls call 08188250819. LevanderGora... BE well.

Health / The Best Time To Get A Massage Is......? by Levandergora: 9:54am On Aug 22, 2015 |
Hello, Nairalanders! People have asked us at LevanderGora Wellness when we think is the best time for getting a massage, so we thought we should post this for you all to read. Enjoy!--- As I get more busy (thank you everyone!), I realize that many of my clients want to book a massage in the evening. While this does make some sense for people who work regular office hours (though who would expect their dentist to see them after 7pm?), one does not need to receive a massage at the end of the day to fully enjoy the many benefits of a nice relaxing treatment. Many people in our culture still associate relaxation with sleep, lack of productivity, and even laziness (who has never felt guilty about taking a nice long break in the middle of the day.?) But all of us, both the person receiving a massage and those around him, benefit from a relaxed state in the middle of the day. Being relaxed doesn’t equate being lethargic. We tend to get so focused on deadlines and to-do lists that we loose track of broader questions, such as how much quality time do we spend with family and friends, or how much time do we spend doing the things we really love, how much do we really take care of our bodies. Receiving a massage allows us take a step back from day to day preoccupations, and leaves room for us to look at these questions from a clearer, more serene perspective. And everyone can benefit from this kind of attitude. Likewise, someone might be reticent to book a massage before an important meeting. While one would definitely leave some time in between (for example, receive the massage in the morning, then have lunch), receiving a massage can help alleviate nervousness and tension and help the client be more present and focused. Additionally, many of my clients report feeling very inspired and creative after receiving a massage. leaving room for new ideas and insights. I remember being at a client’s home for a massage for herself and her daughter. I worked on her daughter first and while I worked on the mother, I was amazed to witness the daughter sit at the kitchen counter and enthusiastically write in her journal during the entire time of her mom’s massage. Wouldn’t you want to book your massage early in the day to enjoy a state of inspiration and clarity for a large part of the rest of the day? As far as the physical benefits of massage, the body is able to receive them and integrate them at any time of day. You would definitely not want to exert yourself too strongly after a massage, but a nice walk or a gentle yoga class are nice complements to your experience. I believe there is no “right time”, or “perfect time” to receive a massage. Anytime is a good time, and if some adjustments need to be made to make the experience more fulfilling (such as having a lighter schedule that day), all the better. Author: Nicky LaFleur So call us on 08188250819 to book yourself a massage whenever you are ready! LevanderGora... BE well.

Health / Why Do You Feel “high” After A Massage? Why And How Massage Works! by Levandergora: 9:43am On Aug 19, 2015 |
Dear Nairalanders, it’s all in your head! Ever try to walk, drive, or try to multitask right after having a great massage? Most people find tasks that require intricate coordination of mind and/or body difficult in the minutes that follow a massage. Most people report feeling “high”– an extreme sense of well being, relaxation, and pleasure is very often the result of having a massage. And remarkably, these sensations do not require even an hour of massage to develop. As little as 15 minutes of massage can produce feelings of relaxation and well being. So why does massage feel so good? What is there about the physical action in massage that sends these feel good messages to our bodies? The secret lies in the brain. Douglas Nelson, a neuromuscular therapist and founder of Precision Neuromuscular Therapy Seminars says this about the science behind the mind/massage/body connection: “For many decades, the prevailing wisdom was that emotions are experienced in the mind and, as a result, those powerful emotions then affect our body. For example, when someone offends us, we have the emotional experience of anger. Shortly thereafter, we experience physical symptoms of anger, such as increased muscle tension, constricted breathing, and an increased heart rate. On the other hand, powerful positive emotions like joy and happiness also have corresponding physical effects. Our emotions and thoughts have physical consequences. As it turns out, however, the new scientific understanding reveals that these mind-body experiences are at least bi-directional, if not completely the other way around. The emerging science is providing some really good evidence that the physical sensation can lead to the emotion, instead of the emotion manifesting as a physical experience. Your mind is always trying to make sense of what the body experiences. The brain needs a reason for what it experiences; we interpret meaning so we know how to respond appropriately. As an example, let’s imagine you have an increased respiration and pulse rate. Are you excited or are you fearful? When you think about it, the physical experiences of excitement and fear are almost identical. The mind must decide which emotion it is based on the context of the experience. The experience of physical ease is then interpreted by the brain as being a sign of emotional ease. Relaxation of the body is also relaxation of the mind, as evidenced by the fact that the same class of drugs (benzodiazepines) given as muscle relaxants is also used in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Furthermore, when you return to work with that emotional framework, it changes what you notice around you as well. Little annoyances don’t seem as disturbing. Since attention is selective, your peaceful and positive emotional state predisposes you to notice lots of little blessings that you previously might have overlooked. This process becomes very self-reinforcing.” The brain/body connection In addition to the brain synthesizing experience into physical reactions (and visa-versa), the brain also releases hormones that create physical responses to both stress and relaxation. According to the MAYO clinic, “When you encounter a perceived threat — a large dog barks at you during your morning walk, for instance — your hypothalamus, a tiny region at the base of your brain, sets off an alarm system in your body. Through a combination of nerve and hormonal signals, this system prompts your adrenal glands, located atop your kidneys, to release a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. This complex natural alarm system also communicates with regions of your brain that control mood, motivation and fear.” Conversely, studies have shown that relaxing situations and activities such as massage stimulate the “feel good” hormones of Oxytocin, while reducing the “stress enhancing” hormone adrenocorticotropin, promoting a feeling of well being, relaxation and pleasure after only 15 minutes of moderate-pressure massage of the upper back. Why Interrupting stress hormone cycles is important According to MAYO clinic, interrupting the body’s stress responses could save your life. The body’s stress-response system is usually self-limiting. Once a perceived threat has passed, hormone levels return to normal. As adrenaline and cortisol levels drop, your heart rate and blood pressure return to baseline levels, and other systems resume their regular activities. But when stressors are always present and you constantly feel under attack, that fight-or-flight reaction stays turned on. And everyday stressors include commute driving, work related stress, bad diet and lack of exercise. The long-term activation of the stress-response system — and the subsequent overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones — can disrupt almost all your body’s processes. This puts you at increased risk of numerous health problems, including: Anxiety Depression Digestive problems Heart disease Sleep problems Weight gain Memory and concentration impairment You listened to your body’s cry for help and got a massage–now what? You feel great leaving your massage therapists studio. You want to keep this feeling for as long as possible, realizing the stresses of life will creep back in soon. How can you reap the most benefit from your massage sessions? Practice these “self care” and the benefits of your last massage will last a little longer: Drink plenty of water! Your massage therapist will most likely advise you to drink plenty of water after your massage. Water is one of the most important elements of your body’s ability to function efficiently. When you have had a massage, the muscles, bones and facia (the sticky stuff that coats your bones and muscles) have been manipulated to increase circulation of both blood and lymph. Lymph is the clear fluid that “cleans” your body of waste in the form of dead cells that pass through the lymph node system. Increased lymph circulation can result in an increase of movement of waste through our bodies. Waste is eliminated through the urinary and persperation apparatus. Increasing your water intake will help your body rid itself of waste more effectively. Continue to relax your mind and body If at all possible, don’t jump right into driving a car, going back to work, or going to a difficult gym class. Instead, read a book, take a hot bath, or do something that promotes and extends the body’s relaxation responses and doesn’t trigger counterproductive stress responses. Monitor your body’s response to the massage Sometimes, especially if you are unused to having massage or the pressure used was heavy, you will experience soreness. In the cases of soreness, icing and heat, 10 minutes of ice alternating with 20 minutes of heat, may do the trick to soothe these areas. Over the counter pain relievers that reduce inflammation, such as Ibuprofin or Asprin, can also help. Drinking plenty of water will help the sore muscles recover more quickly. Health / 10 Tips To Help You Get The Most From Your Massage by Levandergora: 10:25am On Aug 14, 2015 |
Hello Nairalanders! It has been a while since we have posted here because we have been so busy. But today is Friday! Yay! Our wellness weekenders are on the way and we will soon be even more busy so we decided to post 10 important things to keep in mind while getting one of our home massages this weekend or any massage from anywhere at all. These tips will help make your massage sessions more effective and will help you feel and BE well! ---> 1) Be as receptive and open to the massage process as possible. 2) Don’t eat just before a massage session. Let your body digest your meal first. 3) Be on time. If you arrive in a frenzied, rushed state, it may take longer to relax. 4)Take off only as much clothing as you are comfortable removing. If you don’t want to remove your clothing, wear clothing that will be comfortable during the massage and will allow the massage therapist to touch and move the areas of your body you expect will need to be massaged. 5)Privacy - The therapist will either leave the room or otherwise provide privacy while you UnCloth. A sheet or towel is provided for draping during the massage and the therapist will uncover only the part of your body being massaged, ensuring that modesty is respected at all times. After the massage is finished, you will be provided with privacy while dressing. 6) Communicate with your massage therapist Before the session, give accurate health information and let the massage therapist know your expectations and reasons for the massage. -Allergies to Oils, Lotions, Powders – The therapist may use oil, lotion or powders to reduce friction on your skin. If you are allergic to any oils, lotions or powders, tell your massage therapist, who can choose a substitute. -Some massage therapists play recorded music during the massage session. Others find music distracting. If it’s provided, let your massage therapist know if you have any music preferences or if you would prefer they turn off the music. Some people like to talk during a massage, while others remain silent. Tell your massage therapist what you prefer. -During the massage session, report any discomfort, whether it’s from the massage or due to any problems or distractions related to the environment, e.g., room temperature, music volume, lighting, etc. -Give feedback to the massage therapist during the massage on the amount of pressure, speed of hand movement, etc. If anything happens that you dislike or seems improper, you have the right to ask the massage therapist to stop. If necessary, you also have the right to end the session. -Don’t be afraid to discuss any apprehensions or concerns. It’s important that you be as comfortable as possible during your massage. Your massage therapist is a professional dedicated to do his or her best to help you feel at ease. 6) Remember to breathe normally. Breathing helps facilitate relaxation. People often stop or limit their breathing when they feel anxious or a sensitive area is massaged. 7)Relax your muscles and your mind. Tightening up by contracting or hardening your muscles during the massage is counterproductive. Let your massage therapist know this is happening. They may need to adjust the massage technique they use and may also be able to help you relax the affected area. If you find your thoughts are racing during the massage, one way to be more body-centered and to quiet your mind is to follow the hands of the massage therapist and focus on how the touch feels. Drink extra water after your massage. 9) Don’t get up too quickly and do allow for some open, quiet time after your massage session. If you’re dizzy or light headed after the massage, do not get off the table too fast. It also may take a little time to integrate or absorb the results of the massage session. 10) Be prepared to schedule several massage sessions. Massage has its greatest benefits over time. The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative, so the more often you get a massage, the better you will feel and the more quickly your body will respond. From one session to the next, relaxation deepens as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are affected and released. If you’re getting massage to address chronic muscular tension or recovery from a soft tissue injury, more than one session is usually needed. So, call us on 08188250819 from anywhere in Lagos and we will come to you or go to a neighborhood spa if you are outside Lagos and enjoy the heck out of your next massage! You deserve it. Have a fabulous weekend. With love, from LevanderGora Wellness. BE well! 1 Like
