@OP have you tried Airbnb's? There would usually be a lot if you have a look. There are also hostels too although not sure if they exist in Sevenoaks. There would be hotels around there as well. Hope this helps?

Your advice is terrible. The very short average time of these people’s financial relationships will decimate their credit profile (not the score) in the eyes of potential lenders - not just credit card or loan providers.
=====≈=============================
No problem 😊. Keyboard warriors! Again, always best to clarify before concluding. Not sure why people jump into conclusions. It's never the best. All you or anyone could have simply done was ask further questions. No one knows it all.

I can see now that my response was not clear and I apologise to the OP. All I was trying to say is for a first credit card, the options for interest free one is very limited.
1. Start with the lowest promotional offer, which is usually 3 months (although the card could be for 6 or 12 months).
2. Use it during the offer (and pay back what you spent) but when the offer finishes, stop using it.
3. After the duration of the card finishes, which is 12 months or whatever they offered you, you close the account.
4. Go back to step one, difference is you would most likely get a longer promotional offer as you have held a card for a year and you pay regularly.

This way, you don't pay any interest at all. This way, the credit card is working for you.

Been using AMEX and Vanquis for about a year now and I have not paid any interest on them. Cancelling cards and re-applying for new ones because of interest free purchases is not being smart with money, it is recklessness and it is not a good way to build credit history/credit score.

Plugging this here for others:
1. https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/dAVIdEzYpk?XL=MNMNS (5,000 Avios if successful)

2. https://www.vanquis.co.uk/raf-app?code=C451F46B8165EA9CC9E1 (We both get £25 if successful)

===========≈==========================
I don't quite agree with you however I respect your opinion.

I have a fantastic credit rating, being chased regularly to apply for credit cards and more credit cards with this approach.

If you read my response, I have tailored it for a new person applying for a card. They don't tend to give long term offers to people with no credit history. Someone like me, I can get up to 30 months interest free on purchases and balance transfer because of my credit rating. I wouldn't cancel before 30 months expire, would I?

Be emotionally intelligent, please and try to read carefully. Clarify if unclear before you make conclusions. It will go a long way.

Congratulations 🎊 on the birth of your son. Hope mother is doing well too.

Yeah, this really surprised me too, when I had my son almost 11 years ago. My mother couldn't believe it as it was previously done in the hospital (My brother's was done in the hospital in the 80's). Guess things have changed since then.

I had to find a private hospital to do our son's - it was £120 at the time although I have since heard that the Jewish people do it best! Wherever you are based, if you can find a Jewish community, they can do it for you. Don't know how much it costs though! Goodluck!

Hello everyone! My name is Lilian and I'm a wife, mother, statistician (analyst) and proud digital business owner. I wanted to share my story with you today and invite you to join our global community of like-minded entrepreneurs.

I started my online business because of my children. My husband and I want to give them the best (better than what we had as children) and this doesn't come cheap. Despite having a day job, cost of living has made our income not seemingly enough. Also, realising that I, on average, need to hold a 9 to 5 job for another 25 years before the official retirement age, which would be well into my late 60s (if they don't increase it before then😀), I decided that I wanted to do something to allow for 'early retirement'.

Then I discovered the power of online entrepreneurship. Through this digital business, I do not have to worry about all of this. I have also experienced personal growth and fulfillment that I never thought possible.

And now, I want to help others achieve the same success. That's why I've created a website where you can sign up with your name and email address to receive information about starting your own online business. 👇👇👇👇

No matter where you're from or what your background is, you can achieve success through online entrepreneurship. So if you're ready to take control of your future and provide for your loved ones, head over to my website and sign up today👇👇👇👇

Good morning house. I have been reading up on credit scores and how to build them. Mine is currently 723 on Experian and I have been here for a year. Never took interest until now (terrible mistake). I want to take a credit card but I am only eligible for a £1,000 Zilch Virtual Mastercard at 29.99ARP.
I am very financially disciplined but would like to know the pros and cons of taking this card please.
Thank you.

===================================
Getting the right credit card can be tricky. I would suggest that you look for a credit card that has interest free purchases for a few months, even if its 3 months. You pay back what you spend. After 3 months, for example (and that is if the promotion is for 3 months), you stop using the card, after paying back in full and leave it for another 3 months, totalling 6 months. Cancel the card and try again for another card with interest free purchases. This way you don't pay the interest. You have to be smart with money!

Oh! That's a shame. I thought they were expanding recently and covered Birmingham. @OP, if you struggle to find a physical one, I know an online one which your son can start with until you find a face to face one? I tried them with my son, I liked the content but my boy wasn't keen on online, he preferred face to face (which of course is more expensive, I was looking for cheaper option, lol) so we kept with F2F. If you are interested, will dig out their details.

Yes, you can. Contact you council and let them know you just moved to the area with your family. They will try to put your child in a school (not necessarily your preferred choice).

If you have a preferred school, ask to be put on the wait list. They will contact you once a space becomes available.

No, I didn't get a laptop. He goes to the club twice a week and he has access to their computers. The software they use is tailor made for kids and not the adult version we all know (else kids will be bored😀). They teach them the same concept though as they would be able to, with time, use it in adult version. No need for laptop.

Hello House, I have a 7 year old son I am really interested in getting to start coding/programming classes for kids. I would prefer a hybrid approach of both in person and online classes as I feel interacting with other kids might also add to the fun and generate more interest. I live in Birmingham, but unfortunately, most of the options I have found through google are just purely online.

Since the options I have found are so numerous and similar, I would really appreciate any recommendations that can be given that can narrow my choice and give him the best experience. Thanks a lot.

≈========≈===≈========================
Not sure if you got any response to this but my son has been doing a face to face session with Code Ninja's since he was 8 (now almost 11). He has been learning to code in a fun way starting with scratch, a bit of python, sql and now java script. I would suggest checking if you have any code ninja hub near you - they are really good. I know because I code too and I always check on what they teach him.

Romance / Re: Am I Gradually Becoming A Misogynist? by Lilipo: 6:08pm On Feb 05, 2023
KlausMichaelson:
Honestly this has been bothering me for a while now. And I think that this is what is referred to as Misogyny
.
I hate the to hear or see the opinion of a female gender cos most times if not all the time, it doesn't make sense. And this realization could make me end up angry for the rest of that day. Whenever I apply logic to actually understand why they make such opinion, I find out that it's always out of emotion and not logic. They also always act before thinking (even when they think, their opinion still doesn't make sense). This is applied to all of them. None is excluded.

A typical example is the Nekede school girl who made a video saying it's the god of my pussy

I just see them as though they have no thinking faculty that is founded on logic. From the posts on social media, Whatsapp and everything. When you look at the motive and the reasoning behind it you will understand that the female gender has this shallow mindset. This is totally different from the male gender, exception to a very few. Majority of the male gender tend to have logical opinions about something.

Maybe I am too much of an observer, I really do not know. Or maybe because I am very sensitive. Sometimes I think to myself that if not that I was born by a woman, I don't see how useful they are, cos they are irritating when it comes to being logical. Try and engage them in a very intricate discussion, you will understand what I mean. The best they can do to appear intelligent is to be good at subjects in school which is always limited to the book they carry around in their school bags. And this is not intelligence.

Now my worry is that, it's affecting the way I act towards them. The worst punishment I can do to myself is to try withstand an opinion from them during arguments. That's the worst. This is giving me a second thought on whether to get married or not, as a matter of seriousness. Cos this is mentally draining to live with people like that for the rest of one's life.

It's really worrisome. Am I the only one?

Appologies if you are not ok with this. But it's just an observation I have come to learn so far so good about that gender.

Modified
One other thing I'd like to point out is that, it's not every male gender that your butts or your body (you shamelessly post on every social media page) will trigger some sort of unnecessary obsession with you. Until then, your weapon is just like a toy gun, absolutely useless. And you are probably useless if you have no logical thinking faculty.

@poster,

I haven't read other responses to this only because i wanted to give an unbiased opinion.

Firstly, I commend your courage to speak up and speak out - this is not very common especially amongst men.

My response to your comment is this - maybe you should try being open minded. To be honest, like yourself, it was the opposite for me as being a lady, I always thought men were myopic and like you wasn't sure I wanted to get married or even have a boyfriend because of this. It wasn't until I expanded my network, moved across states and made more male friends that my views changed. I realised I thought the way I did because of the 'small circle' I interacted with which 'locked up' my mind.

My suggestion is
1. Try to be open minded - if you come across any female, give them the benefit of doubt that they are sensible until they prove otherwise.
2. Expand your network - make female friends near and far, from all parts of the country and even world, if you can. You'll be amazed.
3. Learn to listen - you'll be surprised at what insight you get when you 'actually' listen.

Just as you suggest that women are shallow minded, there are also males that are similar. No gender is superior to each other as each brings different parts to the table which makes the world an interesting place to live in. No matter how you see it, we need each other.

I wish you well - oh and by the way. I am now happily married smiley

Ancestors, I'm searching for a new house and we found one with Electric under floor heating, it's a nice house but we've never heard of electric floor heating, is this even safe and cost effective or e go just dey chop our money dey go?

Firstly, it is completely safe. I classify it as a luxury though because it adds up to the electric bill. However, this can be regulated. Before the energy crisis, I would have suggested a gas underfloor heating as gas was usually way more cheaper to run.

However, that being said, I would imagine that as its a new house, you would have a thermostat that can be set to turn on or off as you so desire. That way, you can control usage. Underfloor heating is not a bad thing to have - but you need to be able to enjoy it without worrying about the costs.

What is the energy rating of the property? If it is between an A and C, and well insulated, you might be able to get away with it. What I mean is that your house would be able to retain heat for longer so you wouldn't need to have your gas/electric on too much.i. e if your heating is on for an hour, it can keep your house warm for 4 hours.

These are things to consider. Ultimately, its a luxury, for those that can afford and enjoy it!

Hello friends,

I am looking for an immigrant in UK who is ready to take a job as a full time nanny for my two kids. Accomodation, feeding, utilites, internet, phone bills will be all taken care of. Monthly pay is 400-500£ depending on a few other details.
The lady/woman should be less than 50 yrs and already residing in the UK.
Location is Basildon in Essex.

If interested, send me a message to naijanannysearch@gmail.com

@poster
I think your request is a bit unfair, and an abuse to the au-pair program that is currently in place for non english speaking European citizens. Au -pairs are to be treated as part of your family, and given time to go for English lessons while they live at your home in exchange for a little pocket money. They are expected to spend time with the kids (not yourself) living with an English speaking family.

They usually shouldn't do more than 30 hours per week. People tend to use them as an extra 'adult' in the house as stop gap between when kids finish from school and when you are back from work. They shouldn't look after kids under two years. Ideally, they do light cleaning, focused around the kids i.e. washing their clothes and ironing it, making light meal e.t.c. Note - they are not your cleaners or maid. You clean your house yourself (or get a cleaner).

In summary, if she were your sister, how would you treat her?

I used au pairs for 6 years and they were good. In my opinion, there is no where that is safe for kids, even the nurseries. You can only pray and hope that God protects the children. You can get a police report + DBS checks for the au -pairs before you invite them to live at yours.

If you need a full time nanny, you need to use agencies to find one and pay the required fees.

Please don't abuse the system. It worked very well pre-brexit and people like you are making it difficult for these ladies (coupled with post-brexit) to be au - pairs for those who genuinely need them and wouldn't abuse them.

Do the right thing.

Being born in the UK I am afraid does not give you automatic citizenship except you were born before 1 January 1983. Anyone born after these date would not be eligible. You can check other criteria here https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-born-uk

So many topics to discuss on this thread but please can we discuss the PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.

Most Naija parents feel they get quality education cheaply here which mostly is not the case.
I am a secondary school maths teacher and I weep for these children. Lack of motivation, apathy, to mention a few.

Asides creating a safe and enabling environment for students to learn, PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN UK AREN'T ANY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE IN NIGERIA.

Parents need to be more involved in their children's education.

Interesting!

I disagree with your bolded statement. Its always best to compare like for like instead of making sweeping statements. In my opinion, state schools in UK are way better than public schools in Nigeria. Some state schools in UK may be comparable to some private schools in Nigeria (but not the top private ones).

Note the definitions below
British definition of State school - A school that is funded and controlled by the state and no fees are charged
British definition of Public school - A school, in England and Wales (not Scotland) that is fee charging and is paid for by parents.

What we term 'public' in Nigeria is called 'state' in United Kingdom and what we term 'private' in Nigeria is termed 'public' in England and Wales (not sure of what it is called in Scotland). Context here is SCHOOLS.

Not all state schools in UK are as bad as you have described. There is a reason for OFSTED ratings but I agree that some schools may be below the expected standard. These are due to many reasons eg if you live in an economically deprived area or perhaps where most parents are on benefits among many other reasons.

My advise would be, if you are immigrating with children, consider areas that have good state schools. If you can afford public school, it is well worth the fees.

Many congratulations!

A few questions

So in summary, before completing your Masters, you will be switching to a Skilled Visa or Healthcare visa? Can you do this in country i.e. within UK or you have to go back to your home country to apply?

What would happen to your studentship? would you be able to continue online or forfeit it? Is this allowed? Would the school allow?

Would you know if a student dependant (not main applicant) can switch to either a skilled or health care visa within UK? What does this mean for the main applicant?

Grateful for any insight you can provide.

Many thanks.

I think this is correct. Recruitment agencies may not consider applications from Nigeria as a result of this but this can be circumnavigated by applying directly to the companies.

I know they have a language in Wales but they also speak English. I also don't think there would be much differences between the two in accommodation costs + living expenses. I am inclined towards Scotland because Glasgow is like the 'Economic hub' of Scotland but then again Cardiff is also popular in Wales and not too far from London. Its really up to you. I would suggest you look at rightmove to see rent prices in both places (that would be your largest expense to be honest) and see which works for your pocket.

I am no tech guru but i would suggest you go to youtube and watch reviews made by a young guy called MKBHD. He is good. He will breakdown the pros and cons of each phone you are thinking of and you can make your decision.

I would also encourage you to think about what you want from a phone. That would also help. I know that S21 picture quality is amazing for example so if you are a picture buff then S21 is it.

Goodluck with whatever you decide - both phones are great ones!
