ocpaschal: why are you trying to derail this post.. If u didn't want to comment in a right manner, d best u cud do is to overlook it. Why are you derailing this thread? This thread is for life/living in Canada not for these unnecessary questions. You can check the student visa thread for student related issues. More importantly do your own research. A lot of your questions can be found by doing a simple search on Google. 1 Like |

Teemenzo: Hello guys, as adviced i did some research on masters studies and phd. The cgpa requirements are crazy. My cgpa is 2.81 and their minimum is 3.0. But i found a Pre-master's program in University of Manitoba. What do you think, should i go fo the pre-master's and also its just a year program before applying for the actual masters. Is your CGPA on a 4.0 or 5.0 scale? You might be considered for a masters degree because of your previous masters and 13 years work experience. Feel free to reach out the admission office of various universities. |

You are correct. It doesn't need to be an immigration advice. It's a piece of logical and reasonable advice.
Even going for another master (which I saw somewhere it has about 1% percent approval), raises eye-brow but its much better than going for a diploma in a different thing when you have a master's and bachelor degree plus 13 years experience in your MSC & BSc line.
The truth is there is no tailored way in this visa thing. Wetin go work for one person, might not work for another
@Teemenzo, Please analyze very well before you make a choice. Well said! |

Teemenzo:
This is not about career progression. Animation is an important branch in Architecture, i have always loved it and want to focus on it squarely. No plans to progress in my studies in architecture. 13 years in architecture has been fun. My focus now is animation. I would have learnt it in Nigeria before leaving but most of it here is crap. And i learnt that diploma is more of practical, that's all i need in my life now. Less reading more doing. Like I pointed out earlier, you can explain your reasons to the visa officer in your SOP/LOE. it's also important to note that career progression is very important in this journey. Some VOs might think it's illogical to spend so amount of money for a lower degree when you can learn such skills mostly online these days. That being said, I still suggest that you apply with a master's or PhD. Not immigration advice. 1 Like |

Teemenzo: Good morning guys. So i have beeb reading people's story based on the level of education they are applying to meaning BSC, MSC etc. So i was kind of concerned on the line i want to go as i already have my masters in architecture but i want to go fully into animation. So im opting for animation course at Cambrian College. But the certificate i saw is Advanced Diploma, though this will help to further but i hope there won't be issues while applying for the visa. Thank you It might be a red flag because advanced diploma is even lower than a BSc not to talk of your MSc. But you can explain your reason for choosing in to the visa officer in your SOP/LOE. In my opinion, it doesn't show career/education progression. I suggest going for another MSc at least. All the best! |

rebecausoro: Complete landing gist
I flew from Uyo to Lagos on Tuesday evening and I stayed with a family friend for the night. I arrived the airport around 10am for a flight of 1.40pm. I thought I was early until I saw the queue. Quick tip: even if your flight is for 6pm, get to the airport around 12pm and stay there till they are ready for you .
Ethiopian airlines usually do manual verifications of all students travelling to Canada. You really need to be there on time for this because the man doing it is slow and doesn't care about your time. He asked for proof of enrollment, admission letter, ArriveCAN slip, and visa page. Please make at least two copies of all of these too. After showing him, he'll snap and then send to someone via WhatsApp to verify. Once confirmed, your passport will be given a number and you'll then proceed to where it will be scanned again for secondary verification. After this stage, you will then go to where you can get a boarding pass.
The plane left Lagos around 2pm. I was seated at the back and had space to stretch legs . We got to Addis Ababa around 7pm (Nigeria time) and then we entered a long queue for onward movement. From Addis Ababa, we went to Dublin for refueling and then to Toronto. Upon arrival, we talk a long walk (very long o) and got to immigration people. The woman that attended to me asked for these (in the following order): 1. Declaration slip (will be given to you in the airplane) 2. Passport 3. LOI 4. Student Status letter (enrolment letter) 5. School fees/tuition receipt 6. ArriveCAN page (apparently, I didn't even fill my own well and was delayed for a while. Make sure you fill yours well) 7. POF 8. LOA
She asked me the following: Which department were you admitted into? Why did you choose MUN? What is your name?
Then she took my finger prints and issued me a Study Permit for 3 years (my program is for 2 years but I don't know why it was issued in excess).
I went to wait board a St John's flight after a long wait at the airport. Got to St. John without qualms. Reach my apartment, checked in and slept off.
Exams start on Monday. Canada is beautiful and nice. I love the place. Good luck to all who are applying or will soon come.
It has ended in praises.
Congrats on your successful landing. Please did you print the ARRIVECAN reciept or you just showed it from your phone? |

Ask the school if you can use flywire, they will send a link that will help with that.. once they do, you open and try to fill the details on The flywire website.. once you are done, print out the form and take it to bank, flywire is serving as the middle man between you and the school.. it’s quite cheaper than Western union and the rest and is faster.. 72hrs once Cbn acknowledges .. your school receives the money...
I hope this helps Are you sure flywire is cheaper than Western union? 1 Like |

Congratulations bro, do have a safe trip. Passport Sent, our waiting starts, me I just put mind for 3-4 weeks for return to avoid thinking.
Meanwhile have you booked for Airbnb for 2weeks quarantine? If yes, did you pay from Nigeria? Thank you bro. I'm using the university's quarantine plan. They have a plan for international students who don't have anywhere to quarantine. |
