MultiChoice cannot allow subscribers to choose the DStv channels they want and pay only for them due to how global channel distributors sell their content to broadcasters.

For many years, DStv customers have complained about paying for the channels they never.

While DStv’s top-end Premium and Compact Plus bouquets each offer well over 100 channels, many viewers only find value in their sought-after sports, flagship movies, documentaries, and news channels.

These subscribers argue they could pay far less for their packages if DStv only gave them the channels they wanted, while the broadcaster could still make money.

The rise of on-demand video streaming services — which allow users to choose the content they want to watch when they want to watch it — has exacerbated DStv customers’ frustration.

However, television broadcasting expert Thinus Ferreira has explained why paying per channel was simply not feasible for DStv.

Ferreira used a hotel buffet as a metaphor for explaining how MultiChoice’s channel licencing agreements work.

With a buffet, customers pay a single price for all the food on offer, instead of paying for individual dishes.

However, a part of what they pay still goes towards food they may not consume.

In this metaphor, DStv is the hotel, its packages are the buffet, and the various foods in the buffet are the channels DStv gets from distributors.

“Channel distributors have been selling and bundling their own sets of channels as a type of ‘mini-buffet’ to operators,” Ferreira explained.

“Imagine every time the hotel buys lamb for its buffet, it’s forced to also buy a bag of potatoes. So it simply offers potatoes as well.”

“Operators who have had little choice — basically a take it or leave it — simply took it, paid for it, and effectively sold it on to the consumer within the TV buffet.”

Ferreira said a broadcaster that primarily wanted The Disney Channel or ESPN might not necessarily have wanted Disney XD and Disney Junior but had to take the entire bundle, or it could not offer any of the channels.

A lot has happened since we lost our shining star last year, yet the circumstances behind his death remain riddled with conspiracies, controversies and many unanswered questions.

According to the police in 2023, the singer was administered injections by a quack nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe. Said injections, consisting of tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, and an antibiotic known as Cetrazone triggered an immediate reaction, including vomiting, goosebumps and convulsions, after which he passed.

He was then rushed to Perez Medcare Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival. According to a statement by the medical facility, he did not die in their hospital, and all efforts at resuscitation failed.

Mohbad was buried the very next day in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State by his family. The early burial confused the singer's fans and Nigerians at large, given that he was not a Muslim.

However, Mohbad's father, Joseph Aloba, spoke up, stressing that he was quickly buried because he was young. He also noted that the land on which he was buried was the only property that he knew his son owned.

Shortly after his passing, Nigerians began to clamour for an investigation into his death, considering its sudden nature. As you learn together to apply God’s Word to your marriages and lives, you’ll sharpen one another spiritually. You’ll also be challenging each other to serve in ministry and share your faith regularly. Growing as a follower of Christ and as a spouse requires consistent accountability from other believers.

3. Renew your wedding vows. If you’ve committed your life to Jesus or renewed your commitment in a meaningful way since you first said your wedding vows, consider renewing those vows. It’s likely they’ll mean something different to you today.

The 3 Truths Required for a Healthy Marriage

I humbly admit that I don't know everything about marriage. In fact, I think it would be more factual to say that I don't know anything.

I grew up in the church. I sat in youth group during future-spouse night. I thought I was ready for marriage. To an extent, I was. But even as a marriage rookie, I'm learning that God offers more lessons in love than any how-to-date book could ever write.

In fact, I firmly believe these three truths are required for a God-honoring marriage to thrive:

1. Marriage Must Be a Mirror

I spent years praying for my future husband. I also was very picky about who I chose to date. As a result, I ended up with the most patient, kind, God-fearing husband you can think of. While we were dating, this was an incredible experience. I was constantly thinking “How did I get him?” It felt like a dream. But when we got married, his strengths began to call out my weaknesses. And the worst part? He didn't even know he was doing it.

When I would be irritated and rushed, my husband would respond with gentle patience. I would hear Christ whisper, “Love is patient, Olivia”. When I was in a place of selfish self-preservation, my husband’s humble and selfless love would expose my sin. To say it simply, marriage is a mirror and this mirror shows you the parts of you that need fixing.

You see, marriage before the fall of man was supposed to be a fairytale. Now, it's the union of two very imperfect people who very imperfectly pursue Christ together. But friend, this is a part of sanctification. On this Earth, we are being sanctified every day, made more like our Creator until we reach glory. Marriage, being a representation of Christ and the Church, is meant to be a loving, safe, sanctification. My husband’s action should be making me reflect and see where I am lacking because that is how I will be more like Jesus. Vice versa, my strengths should make my husband see where he is lacking, making him turn to Christ.

(I want to clarify that if your spouse is using sanctification to manipulate you, that is not God’s intent for marriage. It is through my husband’s humble love that God reveals to me my imperfections. Again, I emphasize God reveals to me my imperfections, not my husband. God simply uses him as a vessel.)

2. Shame Must Be Destroyed

As I mentioned earlier, marriage is a reflection of Christ and the Church. In Ephesians 5:25, husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loves the Church. And even though no man can love you as perfectly and wholly as God, a God-fearing man’s wife should see glimpses of Jesus’ love in her husband’s affection towards her.

I struggle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Contrary to popular belief, this does not mean I have to have every picture frame hung perfectly straight and a perfectly clean car (actually, I’m the opposite!). What this does mean is that certain triggers can make me question the most important facts about myself. These triggers and thoughts leave me in fear and worry. My husband and I have been together for about three years. Throughout those three years, he has learned of my OCD and my triggers and has never once judged me. Every time I open up to him about my latest obsession, his understanding and love shock me. The lack of judgment and the willingness to help remind me that God heard all my years of praying for a husband long before I met him. As much as my husband’s love makes me feel seen, though, I am reminded through that love that God loves me with a more abundant, understanding, and perfect love than my husband could ever even fathom.

OCD can cause a lot of guilt and shame. Opening up about it can be embarrassing. But because my husband has shown that he will not judge me, I open up to him freely. Even more so, God invites us to open up to Him freely! Friend, I have learned that I can bring any guilt, shame, sin, doubt, fear, etc. to the feet of God and lay it there in the confidence that God will forgive me, sanctify me, and walk me through whatever battle I am facing. God knows me better than my husband ever could yet loves me more than humanly possible. How crazy is it to be fully understood and exposed yet fully and perfectly loved by God?!

SIM-NIN: How to unblock your line on any network

Nigerians have stormed telecommunication stores nationwide after telcos began barring following lines not linked with a National Identification Number (NIN) over the weekend.

This is in compliance with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s July 31, 2024, deadline for SIM-NIN linkage. According to the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the umbrella body for all telcos, customers who have had their lines blocked are those with a mismatch between their records on both databases (i.e., SIM and NIN).

“We advise such customers to contact their service providers through communicated channels for resolution of the issue,” it said in a statement released on Monday.

It noted that all operators have put measures in place to ensure that anyone whose line is blocked can unblock it by following some easy steps:

1. Airtel: Dial *121# and input your eleven-digit NIN number. The subscriber will receive a confirmation message they have successfully unbarred their Airtel SIM card.

2. EMTS: 9Mobile: Dial *200*8#

3. Glo: Dial *109*Your NIN number#. For example, if your NIN is 12345678901, you would dial *109*12345678901#. Then follow the prompts to submit your NIN for linkage.

4. Smile: Send your valid NIN to customercare@smile.com.ng or call 07020444444. You will be asked to provide consent. Upon receipt of customer consent and successful verification of NIN, the line will be unbarred.

5. MTN: If an MTN line is barred, all the subscriber needs to do
