Politics / Re: Peter Obi Is Like Barack Obama, We May End Up Voting For Him. Asim Adams Esq by Lyoncrescent: 9:20am On Jul 27, 2022
How na ?

Obama ran on the platform of a party that has deep roots and with established network. I like peter obi but a deep examination of him appears he may not have the substance to do some of the things he is saying he is going to do. Nigeria is complex. As a president , will he be fueling the cars in his convoy himself ?He is a much sell-able candidate than Atiku and BAT to the youths but people are sleeping on the silent majority .

1. Some people in APC and PDP regardless of tribe or regions will never vote for Obi
2. Majority of People who have phobia for all things IPOB will not vote for Obi
3. The majority of the North will not vote for Obi
4. In the south west, tinubu has his shortcomings, however the policies and structures such tinubu set up as a governor is greater than whatever obi did in Anambra.

Muslim Muslim is what can cripple tinubu

It is traditional for the Presidential candidate and vice Presidential candidate to be divided as Christian and Muslim. The usual example is the MKO abiola 1993 mandate.

However a more recent example happened in 2011. ACN Presidential Aspirant Nuhu Ribadu picked Fola Tajudeen Adeola as his Vice Presidential Candidate. Both of them are Muslims and they were third position in that election with over 2 million votes. Osinbajo as a christian VP, what is the impact ? Is is just perception or there is an actual impact a Pastor as VP has made that if Osinbajo was a muslim , what major difference apart from perception would we be able to point to in the current state of things ?

However, no matter how insensitive it is, we have seen it happen before and I think it is left to the voters to make a decision among the 3 tight choices :

1. A Muslim Muslim Candidate of APC who did this to nullify the number 2 candidate below especially in the North.
2. A Northern candidate to continue after 8 years a Northern President. The PDP candidate had over 11 million votes in the last election thus making him a strong candidate.
3. A candidate of the Labour Party who has emerged as a dynamic third force. However he most Likely won't have a majority or even minority in the House of Reps and Senate and may struggle to get 25% of votes in any of the Northern states.

All in All, it is up to the voters to decide. However the precedent has been set by not just MKO in 1993 but also by Ribadu in 2011 . I just wish our voters were more enlightened to make the right decision but that is another story for another day.

precedent
noun
/ˈprɛsɪd(ə)nt/
an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.

I don't recall there being any uproar then about a Muslim Muslim candidacy. Thus I want to suggest that if it happened then , what is the problem now ? Is it due to the unrest and the increased activities or boki haram thus making such selection an insensitive one ? If so then I can agree along this line that it is insensitive.

However, no matter how insensitive it is, we have seen it happen before and I think it is left to the voters to make a decision among the 3 tight choices :

1. A Muslim Muslim Candidate of APC who did this to nullify the number 2 candidate below especially in the North.

Lol

They got the CCTV by the second episode though. As at the first episode, the mother believed he had just gone into hiding to avoid marrying Sarah, so, pulling out the CCTV would have been unnecessary.

Even in American movies, they don't ask for CCTV unless there is a genuine fest the person has gone missing. The CCTVs came up at the right time

If my best friend goes missing for whatever reason in a hotel on his wedding day all dressed up as he was and even on the assumption maybe he left without his car, the first thing I am doing is telling the hotel to check their cctv. At least hall way cctv will show he went into the room and never came out. However like I said, they wanted to drag it till when they were ready to use it.

If the hotel hallway had CCTV, the series would have ended 30 minutes into episode 1

Please get REAL details before you start blaming the school

Boys were on second floor while girls were lodge on third floor, the girl in question went to the boy's room at the odds hour to play truth or dare

We are too use to judging before getting full details in this country

If this is the case, an investigation needs to reveal at what point the school found out about the incident and the series of actions the school took after they found out. The antecedent of chrisland is also an issue where a teacher defiled a 2 years old and the school were ultra defensive.Mrs Adeola Adebola, Deputy Headteacher, Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City, Lagos, said the mother of a two-year-old pupil of the school taught her to allege that the accused defiled her.

The teacher was convicted and sentenced to 60 years imprisonment

If for example they took the girl in question for pregnancy test without the consent of the parents, then would that be reasonable? How did the school find out? How long did it take them to tell the parents? Is this incident a one off situation or are there similar cases ? The schools official statement will go a long way but they may not talk now there's an active investigation.

I guess we have to wait for the schools official statement . Need to know how a minor was left on her own to be able to do what you said she did. Did she sneak out in the middle of the night ? Was she coerced or invited? Could the school have done more to protect the children in a foreign land ? Need to know if the school supervision failed the children too and the steps the school took after the incident and at what point the school learnt about the incident and what they did about it . These are the gaps that need to be investigated. The boys and the girl are the victims anyway you spin it. Parenting and the school most especially are culpable based on the little info available

As regards watching the video, I have not and will not watch the video. Also you watching it and distributing it may be breaking the law ; cybercrimes act of 2015.

Education / Re: Lagos Shuts Down Chrisland School Indefinitely Over Sex Tape Of Minors by Lyoncrescent: 3:00pm On Apr 18, 2022
Why always Chrisland? How can you be so negligent to leave minors of the opposite sex on their own in a room ? You take a child to dubai and you leave him or her alone in a bedroom with the opposite sex under no supervision? The children may have moral issues and there may be some issues due to the kind of parenting but in the context of this incident, Chrisland was negligent and irresponsible with the children both the girl and the boys. It is not just the girl. The parents of the boys should also go after the school.

Some years ago in 2003, a classmate in babcock University died during a beach field trip arranged by the department in the University . He was 17 years old. He went to swim in the water and got carried away. His body was found days later. His parents took babcock to court and won the case because babcock was said to have not done enough to protect the boy that drowned because he was a minor and under the care of babcock. Bancock tried to justify that he did not have a gate pass nor permission to go for the trip and that had he not died he would have faced disciplinary action. That's a 17 year old how much more this little children.

How could the children not just the girl be given so much room to be in that situation? How ?

and GBB as 2nd options... IT is not as hard as their making it honestly.

Great question. Galaxy Backbone will tell you that there's a government policy that all critical government applications should be hosted with them
Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Data Security Compromised As NIMC’s Portal Remains Comatose by Lyoncrescent: 4:18pm On Feb 09, 2022
Nigeria has decided to make government agencies use Galaxy Backbone a government agency under the ministry of communication and digital economy for hosting of all critical applications. My worry is how good a Nigerian government agency will be in keeping with global trends and investing with research.

Even America with all their money don't have an agency to host their data under government because there will be limitations. That's why FBI for example uses Amazon cloud and I think pentagon uses Microsoft cloud. There is downtime everywhere but a down time of over 10 days just shows that a government agency has no business managing cloud contracts . Government should regulate and set controls while letting the private sector such as Mainone invest in research and resources if they don't want to use the likes of Amazon and Microsoft . Can Galaxy Backbone even afford to pay their engineers what Amazon, Microsoft, Mainone and Google are paying ? Government bureaucracy in approvals is another big issue. Its a big mess. Its not just NIMC. A lot of government agencies have their critical applications down currently. For some that are lucky that have in house servers to create a hybrid system, some work can still go on for some applications. But for agencies that don't have in house servers and depend 100 percent on Galaxy Backbone, its one chance.

Music/Radio / Re: List Of 250 Of The Greatest Nigerian Songs By Naptu2. by Lyoncrescent: 8:16am On Jan 04, 2022
Excellent work Naptu2. I have been listening to some such as Dora Ifudu and i cannot believe she is Nigerian due to the quality of the music; The way we are is motown standard. So many great Nigerian singers and bands over the years however we cannot find information on most of them and there are no books or documetaries. It is sad that many of them have died and we have lost primary source of what could have been great books/documentaries or even biopics. I remember first hearing about william onyeabor in a great documentary i found on YouTube done by a foreign company and his music was great.I remember i first knew Tunji Oyelana when i heard his song in the Tunde Kelani movie Magun. Some of the others on the list i only know because my dad used to play them when i was younger.

I used to follow combandrazor blog back in the day to learn more about old Nigerian music and it was amazing till he stopped posting. I wish someone can take up that challenge to document that era properly before we loose the primary sources and those who were alive during that era.I dont know how many Nigerian songs from the 50s and below made this list due to this same problem. Great work once again.

Hopefully he is safe.

This reminds me of an incident in University. Everyone in a particular room in Uni kept getting their items stolen especially shoes and phones in a particular week. We all had a particular suspect in mind and when we were trying to set a trap to catch him, Alas he dashed into the room and started wailing that someone just stole his phone. He was later caught and confirmed to be the thief.

Make of that what you will.

Happy Birthday naptu2. Reading your posts is quite interesting and I learn everyday. As an arsenal fan, I never knew JVC was an abbreviation till today. Meanwhile when you are done with your current series and whenever you have time, I wanted to get your opinion on the custom service. It appears to me that during the majority of my young adult life especially from 1999 till date , the custom service has mostly 90 percent maybe been headed by northerners. Its rare since 1999 to hear an Adeyemi or Nnamdi to be the Head of customs. Is there a particular reason to this ? Has it always been like that even in the 60s ,70s,80s and 90s ? Any particular cause or hypothesis you may have? Thank you and happy birthday once again. Long life and prosperity.

P.S. I am quite interested in that Thomas Sankara gist. Hopefully one of these days you will have time to give an expose as compared to the teaser you gave.

NYSC / Re: Has NYSC Destroyed Your Relationship Before? Tell Us Your Story by Lyoncrescent: 2:36pm On Apr 16, 2021
Not everyone cheats or is promiscuous at camp and during the service year however i concede that some people(not the majority) i knew during camp and service year were promiscuous. The Lagos camp of '"06 was so bad that condoms often littered the area around the parade ground, dark corners and mammy market. It was crazy. Had a funny roommate at Lagos camp , Graduate of OOU. He came into the room one late night and was just shouting damn damn damn that some girls should actually wear black wedding gowns during their wedding and that some guys are worse than pigs asking in a loud voice who will marry these girls now ? I replied and told him people like him of course. He was complaining bitterly and praying for the youths to change. 15 years later and i am not so sure if his prayers have been answered.

Finally, i noticed something during my nysc then. There are some bubbly girls that you see that you would at least not be surprised if you heard their gist and same applicable to the guys. That's expected. However the puzzling ones are the green snakes under the green grass. Those gentle people of both sexes who are highly religious either muslim or christian that behave holy holy, some even speak in tongues and bind and cast . All film trick . Some dress and cover up, all film trick, Very reserved and quiet, all film trick. Those are the ones that my funny friend from OOU called the great pretenders or the great deceivers and he often called them out. Dont also be deceived by virginity. So many virgins do all sorts that dent their so called purity . Viriginity is not only by hymen but purity of the heart. So many virgins did crazy stuffs back then without breaking their hymen.

To the OP, what is yours will never pass you by. NYSC or no NYSC. After all there are some who didn't cheat during NYSC but cheated after marriage. Different topic. Just pray to meet and marry your own wife.

how do we know if a car was bought brand new?

More often than not, it would have 2 or 3 keys and the receipt from the selling company stating it. E.g. for Toyota a receipt from Elizade or stallion or mandillas and in the case of Honda receipt from Honda place and of course the vin will have no records when checked online.

Education / Re: Private Universities Produce Students With Empty Brains - Plateau ASUU Chairman by Lyoncrescent: 4:40pm On Feb 05, 2021
I have said it before and I will say it again. The best judge of this is when those who attend public and private universities meet on a level playing field. Every institution both public and private have smart students . Founders of paystack went to babcock for example. However we have to now determine if the empty brains he's referring to is an exception or the rule. Even in law school, private university graduates hold their own. So many private university graduates become ican chartered before the age of 21 and some even pass the CFA easily amidst other world renowned professional certificates in different fields. They also excel outside the country.

What I however think this ASUU person is saying ia that private universities don't make it difficult enough for students to pass compared to public universities. That is why you go to some public universities and discover no one has graduated with first class in some departments for decades . Education is meant to be relevant not difficult . Thats why in some cases in the western world, open book exams are encouraged .

With regards to the fees he mentioned , that is relative if the FG through its various means stops funding public universities for example, how much do you think they will charge for school fees ? Or do you think the 50k per year paid in public universities is what is used to run the school? 50k is about 120 dollars . How much do you think harvard and yale and the rest charge in dollars ? If you attend a public university, just know that you are on a major scholarship from the government . If Government stops funding the public universities, then we will know how far with fees.

I have no issue with this project. However the whole grand 4th mainland being planned for years since 1999 to me is just a waste of time. It makes no sense that people can enter boat from ikorodu to cms, ikorodu to ajah and ikorodu to apapa and there's absolutely no way Lagos state can think of linking those routes via a bridge since 1999. Ikorodu to Island on water in some cases is less than 40 minutes and Bayeku in Ikorodu to Ajah is even shorter. Why can't they do that since 1999? With that you automatically have another way to link mainland and island or am I missing something sir naptu2 ? You can please give your opinion on your thread anytime cos I don't understand why its not being done . From Ikorodu to island by road you have to go through Ikorodu to Ketu then link oworo then third mainlanf bridge then island when there are places in ikorodu like bayeku that is extremely close to ajah and those small boats do ikorodu to island in 25 minutes and even faster in the case of bayeku to ajah. Some have even argued that the fear of doing the single bridge to link ikorodu to island is because of the negative effect it may have in real estate on the island. I dont just get it.

Interesting result. I think whats going to determine united winning the league is their performance away against Arsenal,Spurs, wolves man City and Chelsea before the end of the season. And of course they must definitely get a result at home against Leicester and Liverpool. If they can overcome most of these matches then that will be good..however my money is on man City winning the league. City have sorted out their defence . They just need to sort out their attack..aguero and jesus have a combined two league goals.

Health / Re: Pregnancy Are You Pregnant Or Going Through A High Risk Pregnancy,,lets Talk by Lyoncrescent: 1:14pm On Dec 20, 2020
Lyoncrescent:
Good Afternoon, want to give a feedback on the cerclage. Just after Olan quoted 420k for the cerclage and based on the advice on this forum and elsewhere, we sought to go to ayinke house. A close family friend who is a matron in one of the hospitals under Lagos state linked us up with a doctor who is obs/gyn . The man is based in ikorodu now and works with the general hospital in ijede ikorodu and he has his own private hospital. We saw him initially in his private hospital and he recommended the cerclage also to be done in General hospital ijdede.

I've never been to a government hospital and the road to the ijede general hospital is really bad but fortunately my parents stay in ikorodu so the distance was managed. Will do the review of my experience of the facilities later but in summary it was better than I expected even though it was rowdy.

My wife had a successful cerclage procedure done for her there and they kept her on bed rest for one week. They also put something in her to pass urine from her bladder to a bag for two days so she has less urge to stand up after the procedure.she also didn't eat before the procedure and she said it wasn't painful. She's much stronger and we did another scan and the cerclage is well placed and baby is fine. No pain yet from the two large fibroids . Going to be 14 weeks soon.

Finally from the 420 Thousand Naira olan quoted , At the General hospital ijede the cost of the cerclage plus cost of accommodation with feeding for seven days plus cost of merceline tape plus cost of necessary drugs came to a grand total of 44k. 44 Thousand Naira. The food wasn't fantastic though so I had to take food to her everyday based on her peculiar cravings for each day.
The doctor we are using is experienced as in general hospital they are exposed to all sorts of cases so I believe he's seen things and he is also realistic.

As for the general hospital ijede, they tried. They even have AC unit in the female ward with plasma TV showing DStv.The power supply is also 24/7 and the environment is neat. There's always a nurse in the room as nurses have a designated chair and table in the ward. You can also Google them and see some of their strides. It's small but they are trying . Also olan charges 15k for ultrasound. They charge 1,500. However it's not about just the cost savings, the doctor seeing us knows what he's doing so far and is handling it as a high risk pregnancy. We keep praying. I thank you all for the advice to use a government hospital. I'm grateful.

Happy Sunday. My wife had a Miscarriage on the 21st of December,2019 and gave birth to a bouncing baby Girl on the 20th of December,2020. If not for the Leap year this year it would have been the same date. This forum has been good to me and i came here many times to read peoples experiences and seek opinions and it really helped me and my wife and i thus want to share my own experience to encourage someone.

We had a miscariage last year December. It was a difficult period and that was our first child just three months after our wedding. My wife was shattered but we stayed strong and we prayed. The hospital we used then said we had to remove the fibroid before we try to concieve again and that because of the size of the fibroids if she tried to get pregnant again without removing it, it would be difficult. The bill to remove the fibroid from one new modern hospital near omole phase one was 920k. My wife was not in the mood for any operation. Luckily, we had a trip to cape verde planned out with family January this year and that helped her recover mentally as she was also surrounded by family and when we got back home to Nigeria, we decided not to do the operation and life resumed as normal as we could.

Fast forward to lock down, we had more time to spend together and she got pregnant again. We confirmed it by May this year. First problem we had was which hospital to go to. We tried two private hospitals and they said the pregnancy is high risk because of short cervix, previous miscarriage and multiple fibroids. We also considered Ayinke House. My mum through a close family friend recommended a doctor who works at the General Hospital Ijede ,Ikorodu to us. I was initially skeptical because of what ive heard about Government hospitals. If you read my quote above you will see my experience with the Government Hospital and also the quote i got from a private hospital for cerclage. They said she needs it and we did it at the General Hospital. I am grateful also to this forum because i was considering doing the cerclage at the private hospital but i was encouraged to try Government and it was successful. Doctor at the General hospital also demanded complete and absolute bed rest. My wife resigned her job and only time she went out during the pregnancy was to visit the hospital. She was home all through resting. I also supported her and ensured she still earned what she would have earned while she was working to ensure her happiness.

The pregnancy's journey after the cerclage was better than the doctor at the General Hospital expected. My wife had absolutely no pain and no bleeding from the Fibroid. However her PCV at a point was 25 and a week before delivery was 26.4 . At 26 weeks the baby was in breech position and the placenta was low lying . However by 28 weeks when we went for scan, the placenta was no longer low lying and the baby was now in cephalic presentation and remained so till delivery. It was funny because they kept on repeating the ultrasound and i was scared that something was wrong. Nevertheless, we didnt stop praying and hoping for the best . I also stopped praying for the fibroid to disappear. My prayer was that in spite of the fibroid, God will make a way for my wife and our baby.

She started feeling pain 39 weeks. Contraction. we got to hospital, they said she was 4cm wide. Over four hours, it became 8cm. Prior to now the doctor was worried that she might have to have an operation however we prayed that GODs will should be done. I have also attached the sizes of the fibroid at 38 weeks so you see what we were working with. An hour after the 8cm, she was fully ready and delivered a baby girl through vaginal delivery at 3.3 Kg. The doctor didnt expect that size given the size of the fibroids. I was allowed in the Favour room during the delivery process and i must say i respect women even more than ever. Its not easy . All women are Heroes.

All in All, i thank everyone who shared their story on this forum it was really helpful. I particularly remember the different things such as Garden egg leaf that was recommended to me here to combat the low PCV. I am grateful. For me health care is physical, mental and spiritual. We prayed, we listened to the doctor and we had faith that our baby will be born.

Our theme verse which we saw on the wall of the first private hospital we went this year helped us a lot in prayers and building our faith. Miscarriage is not easy and i saw how it shattered my wife with midnight cries and her being lost in thought. However almost exactly one year later, she's joyous. Please stay strong and believe. All will be well and it will end in praise.

Exodus 23.26
New International Version
...and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.

New Living Translation
There will be no miscarriages or infertility in your land, and I will give you long, full lives.

God Bless you All. Amen
