Why can't Seun call his Mgbati brothers to order.  There is nothing in this tread to sugest that I have undermined the performance of their Fashola. Why will all this educated  " olu ites" tribalise issues here.  You people should just waite and see what Rochas will acheive in his 1st term.  Ana eshi na ushi ahuru amara  uto nshi.

Our prayers will never seize for Rochas. He is not only on a rescue mission for Imo state but for the Igbo nation after all a guy whose criminal case is of "international dimension" can rescued south west via Fashola

Like it or hate all, Fashola did do well in lagos  before the last general elections. He became the reference for Good governance comparatively. I mean to what we had in the past and to other state Go'nrs of the same dispensation. This in no way mean that there is no room for improvement like in the area of the flooding, multiple taxation etc .  But this tread is not about Fashola, but Rochas, whom in his short period in Govt has shown sign that he is a force to recon with in terms of civic and political trust. We are expecting that Rochas will  continue with  doing things  that reinvigorate hope amongst the masses.  He should renovate all the abandoned regional water project, create avenue for empowerment, the Ring road and most importantly security of life and property in the state. And lots more.

Imo election: APGA asks Court to stop INEC
on MAY 5, 2011 · · in NEWS

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri
The political impasse in Imo state took a new dimension Wednesday, as the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, and its governorship candidate in Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, pleads a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from conducting supplementary elections in the state Friday.

The party invoked the original jurisdiction of the High Court via a motion on notice it filed through its counsel, Professor Francis Dike, SAN, wherein it sought two injunctive reliefs.

Considering the nature of the case, the motion has been fixed for hearing Thursday before Justice Donatus Okorowo.

The plaintiffs warned that unless the court stops the election, there might be a breakdown of law and order in Imo State come May 6.

They are specifically seeking an order of interlocutory injunction suspending the decision of INEC to conduct supplementary election or any other election howsoever called on the May 6th, 2011 or any other date, into the office of the Governor of Imo State, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

“An order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC from taking any step whatsoever or conducting supplementary elections or any elections howsoever called on the May 6th, 2011 or any other date into the office of the Governor of Imo State pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

In asking the court to stop the supplementary elections in Imo, they raised several grounds upon which the court should rely in granting them the reliefs among which were:

“That election into the office of the governor of a state by law must be conducted not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of that office”.

The applicants insisted that the last day for the conduct of election into the office of the governor of Imo state is the 27th, April, 2011.

“That the period between May 6, 2011 and May 27th, 2011 which is the last day before the expiration of the tenure of the last holder of the office of the governor of Imo State which expires on 30th May, 2011 is less than 30 days limited by law.

According to the processes they filed in court, the cancellation of Mbaitolu Local Government Council election and result after same was declared by the appropriate/ designated officer of INEC was ultra vires the powers of the commission.

In a 25-paragraphed affidavit that was attached to the suit, the responent, Mr. Jude Nsofor, averred that Okorocha won 12 out of the 24 local government councils where election was held while the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Ikedi Ohakim won 11.

According to him, by the released result of the Mbaitolu Local Government Area by INEC upon conclusion of the election in the council area, they led the other contestants with 17, 757 votes while the PDP runner up scored 12,440 votes.

He stated thus:”That of the said 11 Local Government Areas declared to have been won by the PDP, the plaintiffs also scored not less than 25 per cent of total votes cast in five of the council areas namely, Aboh-Mbaise, Ahiazu-Mbaise, Ikeduru, Nwangele and Ezinihitte Mbaise local government areas.”

He maintained that the plaintiffs scored 299,253 votes out of the total votes cast in the election including Mbaitolu LGA result while PDP, the runner up scored 291,365 votes.

He said that when the results of the election in Mbaitolu LGA were added the plaintiffs had scored not less than 25 per cent of the total votes cast in 18 local government areas being two-thirds f the 27 local government areas of Imo State.

He contended that unless INEC was stopped by the court, it would go ahead to conduct an illegal election in Imo State.

“Unless the defendant is immediately restrained by this court, the defendant will proceed with the conduct of the said supplementary election which may liekly lead to break down of and order,” he added.

This is a very bad advice. He is heading for a trouble if he overlooks his mums wish .  He has to appeal, appease and plead with his mum. i have seen a situation where a guys mums died as a result of this kind of issue. They lady could not stand the issolation that ensured after their wedding and the marriage never survived it. This are real life issues that requires a lot of wisdom. This is a very serious simple issue.  Please and please don't bring up the issue that  you are a man of your own that you can take your own decision. Sorry you got it all wrong. Traditional marriages are done at  the Brides home and white wedding at the grooms place. The white wedding church is normally   @ the grooms church/home. For any reason to change this custom, the groom or brides parent concent must be sort, if they refuse, for a win win situation, you should spare time to do your engagement at Onitsha and white wedding at Aba.
Politics / Olisa Agbakoba : Constitutional Interpretation Of Zoning by mafifle: 5:57pm On Jul 23, 2010
The hullabaloo about abolishing zoning is completely misconceived. The call to abolish zoning seriously underestimates and ignores the complex political character of Nigeria. Nigeria is not a Federation by accident. It is a Federation because it is composed of diverse peoples from different ethnic, religious and linguistic backgrounds. Nigeria is a divided society. Federalism is the only known political system that accommodates divisions and diversity. This is why Federalism is increasingly important in the world. 28 countries in the world constituting 40% of the world’s people have adopted the federal system.

Unity is a key challenge in many Federations. It is a key challenge in Nigeria with major divisions along class, linguistic, religious and ethnic lines. In the case of Nigeria, a sense of belonging or inclusion is vital to Nigeria’s survival. This is why the Constitution prescribes the federal character principle at Section 14. Federal character is about inclusion of the six (6) geopolitical zones in the allocation of political and public sector appointments including the office of President. Federal character has however assumed a negative connotation, as there is a strong perception that people gain offices at the sacrifice of merit. Zoning is the political name for the constitutional principle of federal character.

The call to abolish zoning is misconceived. All public institutions in Nigeria are zoned to include the 6 zones. This is why Subsection (3) of Section 14 of the Constitution stipulates that:

“the composition of the government of the federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity and all to command national loyalty thereby ensuring that there is no pre-dominant of persons from few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or any of its agencies”

This shows clearly that zoning is a constitutional principle. It is important to ask why the drafters of the Constitution prescribed zoning or its constitutional name – federal character. The reason is quite simple. There are broadly speaking two types of federations; homogeneous federations where citizens have a strong sense of national unity. In homogeneous federations, unity is not a major issue and the social forces allow a strong central federal government.

The second is the diverse or divided Federation like Nigeria. Here citizens identify with very distinct groups; sometimes members of a particular group may see their identity as incompatible with the national identity, thus creating tension around the issue of national unity. Nigeria is a perfect illustration of a diverse or divided Federation. The federal character principle or zoning or inclusion is designed to manage this. So Nigeria must embrace its diversity by promoting a positive political nationality. This is the reason for Section 14 of the Constitution. We must build a constructive approach to diversity that responds to the demands of a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-linguistic society. India is a very good example of how to manage diversity. Nigeria, Malaysia and Ethiopia are still grappling with this difficult issue. Nigeria’s survival depends on a full understanding of Section 14 of the Constitution.

Now to the point about the misconception about zoning and power rotation. The debate about zoning the presidency either to the South-South or the North within the People Democratic Party is not the concept of zoning referred to in the Constitution. PDP is not one of the entities described in the context of the federal character principle contained in Section 14 of the Constitution. Zoning in the PDP is about the notion of power rotation between north and the south according to the rules of the party. The PDP abolishing zoning or power rotation should have no impact on the Federal character principle laid out in the Constitution. It is very important to keep this in mind as it would appear that if the PDP abolishes power rotation, it necessarily means that the Constitutional prescription of zoning is also affected. What the PDP decides to make of their principle of power rotation between north and south is an internal affair of the party. It would not affect the constitutional prescription of inclusion and participation in the affairs of government by Nigerians from all the zones as this has helped to keep Nigeria together.

But it is also suggested that non public entities should take a bearing from the inclusion policy laid out in our Constitution. The NBA is not a public institution but developed a working model to rotate the office of President in an inclusive process. I think the challenge for the PDP is to understand that there is a world of difference between the concept of power rotation and the rules of rotation. It is possible to retain power rotation but change the rules according to circumstances.

We need therefore to clarify the debate so that we do not throw the baby out simply because the bath water is dirty.

There was drama yesterday as former military president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, General Ibrahim Babangida and Dr Godwin Daboh came face-to-face in Abuja. Daily Sun was reliably informed that the meeting was convened at the instance of Dr Daboh, currently at the vanguard of one the Goodluck Jonathan for President groups. At the meeting, Daboh allegedly pleaded for forgiveness and assured Babangida that he would drop his opposition to the latter‘s ambition.

But Daboh told Daily Sun in an exclusive interview in Abuja that he was tricked into the meeting through former governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure where television cameras were beamed on him to portray him as a double dealer. He also denied begging IBB.

Daboh who is national president of Benue State Elders Forum and Deputy Coordinator of Concerned PDP Elders for Jonathan/Sambo 2011 said the entire scenario was a plot by Babangida to set him up.
The alarm by the PDP chieftain is coming barely 24 hours after the former military president warned President Goodluck Jonathan to beware of Chief Daboh. “He would turn against Jonathan even before the end of this year,” IBB had reportedly warned Jonathan.

Narrating how he was tricked into the meeting with IBB, Daboh told Daily Sun: “This morning (yesterday) at 11:42am, mamman Kolo, someone I regard as a son called me on phone number 08065696524 and asked me to call Kure. The message was that I should please call former governor Kure of Niger State on 08056006010.

“So, I called Kure who has been a long standing friend. He answered and said he would like to see me urgently and that I should met him in his office. He said he has something important to discuss with me. So, I went there, near FERMA office.
“When I got there, Kure was already waiting in a National Assembly car marked Senate. Inside the car were three people with him. One of the three people was a former PDP chairman in Niger State. I do not know the other two persons.
“The two people moved away from the car and entered the car I came with. I went with my friend. Kure now drove me to Attahiru Bafarawa’s house near Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

“As soon as we entered the parlour, Kure said he wants to talk to me. After about two minutes, I heard a voice that sounded like that of Ibrahim Babangida. So, I asked him why he had to do this to me. He said he wants me to talk with Babangida.
“I objected by telling him that he didn’t tell me that I was to meet with Babangida. You just brought me here. Then Babangida emerged and said we are very close and inseparable. He said I am his friend but that he knows I am with Jonathan. We were talking and cracking jokes. Food was now ready and we ate.

“When we finished, I said I am going. Then, an Air Vice Marshal who is retired said let them see me off. So Babangida and the Air Vice Marshal stood up. While we were there, Afegbua, his Publicity Secretary came in and greeted me. On our way out, I suddenly saw a cameraman from television station.
“They started interviewing me. I made my position clear. They now asked me if I have left Jonathan. I said no; I am the chairman of one of Jonathan’s movements and I am still supporting him.

“Then the journalist asked me if I have changed my mind about Jonathan and now supporting Babangida. I am supporting Jonathan. That’s what I said. Babangida then left me and the journalist,” he explained.
Daboh said Kure was unfair to him by taking him to former governor Bafarawa’s house and colluding with Babangida to set him up.
“I am calling on all Nigerians to beware of Babangida because the position here is this; God has made His own will on what is going to happen. Everybody knows that Jonathan is going to be the next elected president of Nigeria, ” he said.

He maintained that he has advised Babangida to steer clear of the 2011 presidential race.
“I want to caution Nigerians that what Babangida did to me should be signal that they have to be careful with the man Babangida. He wants to be president at all cost and I have told him that he cannot be
