The Airport

Love impassioned is a delight and wonder. That this can hold the heart and soul in its essence of not knowing, yet knowing, all there is to know. Thus, begins a story of once upon a time…

She strolled through the airport, baggage in tow. Most of the seats were taken except one, it was at the end of the row of the connected seats. Making it convenient for the luggage to be next to her. Of course asking for it was a particularly nice validation of manifesting her intent.

As she glanced the expansive waiting-gate area, her eyes rested upon a mysterious stranger seated in a corner. Sunglasses cloaked him which peeked her interest. He was next to a window, she figured he was staring at the airplanes maneuver and the bustle of personnel down below. What she did not know was he had been waiting for her.

The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Monday, has finally impeached the state’s deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan, over allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety, while in office.

The Assembly, during its emergency sitting recommended that, having considered the report of the seven-man panel constituted by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor, it has found him culpable of all allegations.

The recommendations stated further: “I hereby, recommend for the approval of the house, pursuant to section 188 (19) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as ammended) that the deputy governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, stand removed from from office with effect from today, Monday July 18, 2022.”

Following this development, the governor, Mr. ‘Seyi Makinde, is expected to announce the name of the new deputy governor, who is expected to be sworn in with immediately effect today, as the Assembly planned to reconvene its sitting again in the next few hours.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has urged the electorate in Ekiti State that they will not get paid if they do not vote.

Tinubu, who was in Ekiti State on Tuesday said this at an APC rally while campaigning for the party’s governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the election slated for Saturday, June 18, 2022.

He also boasted that he has never failed in an election before.
