Software/Programmer Market / Meet Sophia The First Robot In History To Become A Citizen Of A Country by Maryoxlade: 9:13am On Nov 09, 2017
Sophia was created by Hanson Robotics and she’s truly one of a kind, the focus area is currently on her intelligence. The other parts of her body such as her legs and hands (though her hands work pretty well already) have not been fully developed, but all that will be looked into with subsequent upgrades.
Sophia
Sophia is a humanoid robot that was granted the first ever Saudi citizenship for a robot. The CEO of Hanson Robotics explains the idea behind Sophia is to build the full human experience in a robot, pushing boundaries and making robots that can really understand us and care about us.
Her AI (Artificial Intelligence) was made using Singularity Net, the AI is basically the brain of the robot, and the work put into Singularity Net is simply amazing. She’s currently able to express over a thousand human emotions, and she can engage in intelligent conversations with humans effortlessly
Sophia was designed to look like Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Kathleen Ruston (full name) was a British actress and humanitarian who died at the age of 63 due to Appendiceal cancer. Sophia embodies Hepburn’s classic beauty: porcelain skin, a slender nose, high cheekbones, an intriguing smile, and deeply expressive eyes that seem to change color with the light.
Sophia At The United Nations
Above is a video of Sophia being interviewed by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. This interview took place at the UN General Assembly Second Committee and the Economic and Social Council joint meeting on “The future of everything – sustainable development in the age of rapid technological change.”
Irony Of Citizenship
The irony of the citizenship is that Saudi Arabia is well known for having some of the worst women rights policies, it was only until late this year women were allowed to drive in the country.

Education / New ASUU Strike Looms As Union Evaluates Deal With FG by Maryoxlade: 8:38am On Nov 08, 2017
New ASUU strike looms as union evaluates deal with FG

ASUU may go on strike again this week
A new ASUU strike might be strike might be looming across Nigeria Universities as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is expected to hold its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting this week.

The ASUU NEC, which is the highest decision making body of the union, is to review Federal government’s implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) it signed with the union before it suspended its strike a few months ago.

Both government and ASUU had agreed to an MoA which stipulated that the federal government would have implemented its agreed contents latest by October, 2017.

The federal government according to investigation, however, was yet to implement issuance of license for the registration of Nigerian University Pension Company (NUPEMCO) which it promised to do within two weeks of strike suspension.

The FG is also defaulting in payment of ‘Earned Academic Allowances and revatilisation funds’ for public universities.

Some lecturers at the University of Ibadan, who spoke with journalists on the condition of anornimity at the weekend noted that it was unfortunate that the government had not paid as promised by end of October.

They said they had asked their leadership not to suspend the strike until the government paid the money as promised but didn’t heed their advice.
Based on the tension generated on campuses, ASUU President Professor Biodun Ogunyemi sent a mail to all the members to douse the tension over the payment of earned academic allowances
“Dear Comrades, the leadership of the union is aware of the palpable tensions on our campuses over the delay in the payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
“It is therefore not a surprise that for the past three days, a circular dated 24 October, 2017 related to EAA is already trending on some social media network/platforms. The leadership of the union can say categorically that the gaps/Omissions in the said circular were addressed at a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Education last weekend.
We have gone far on the matter and there should be results in a matter of days. Thank you”, he wrote.

It was also gathered that the NEC of the union will review the implementation of the Memorandum of Action and jointly take a decision on it.

See The 8 Most Powerful Women In Alaafin Of Oyo Palace (He Kneels To One Of Them)
The Oyo Dynasty dates back to the Old Oyo empire which recognises Alaafin as emperor. There are powerful people within the Oyo kingdom who very few people know about.
They are women who control the kingdom.
See the women below:-
1. Iyamode
Iyamode is the only person the Aláàfin kneels before. Whenever the Aláàfin goes on his knees before this influential woman, she returns the salutation by kneeling too.
However, she never reclines on her elbow while kneeling. She is one of the most senior eight priestesses inside the Aláàfin’s royal household.
2. Iya Naso
Among the Yoruba people, the Aláàfin of Oyo is worshipped as the living incarnation of the Sango, the god of thunder.
Inside the palace, the Aláàfin has a private place where he worships Sango. Iya Naso’s is in charge of this spiritual room.
She is responsible for Sango worship in the palace along with its rituals and requirements.
3. Iya Kere
Iya Kere is in charge of the treasures and paraphernalia of the Oyo kingdom, including the crown, which only she is allowed to place on the king’s head.
She keeps the royal insignia and all the paraphernalia used on state occasions and special events.
Iya Kere is also the ‘mother’ of all the Ilaris (male and female eunuchs who are kept in the palace with half their heads shaved off) and she keeps in her custody all the sugudus that bear the marks of each Ilari in order to ensure the safety of the life of the King.
Iya Kere exercises full power over the ‘Olosi’ can even have him arrested and put in chains if he crosses his bounds. Iya Kere is the feudal head of the Aseyin, Oluiwo and the Baale (now Soun) of Ogbomoso. Once she assumes the office, she remains a celibate for life, that is the tradition.
4. Iya Oba
Iya Oba is the official mother of the king. After the demise of the Queen Mother, another of the ladies of the palace is then made the Iya Oba and she is the one who is then supposed to play the role of a biological mother to him.
The Iya Oba is the third person in the room when the King and the Bashorun worship the Orun in the month of September every year, a very special privilege.
5. Iya Monari
It is the role of the Iya Monari to execute by strangling any Sango worshipper who has been condemned to death. Sango worshippers condemned to capital punishment cannot be killed by the sword.
She also assists Iya Naso.
6. Iya Fin Iku
She is referred to as the King’s Adoshu Sango meaning the King’s devotee to the Sango mysteries.
It is the normal practice for all Sango worshippers to devote one of their children to the worship of Sango and that is the role that Iya-fin-Iku fulfills for the Aláàfin.
She is also in charge of the sacred Sango ram which is allowed to go everywhere and about the markets without anyone molesting it and the ram can also eat with impunity anything.
7. Iyalagbon
She is the mother of the Crown Prince (Aremo). In a case where the mother of the Aremo is deceased, then another woman is promoted to that office and she becomes the mother to the Aremo.
The Iyalagbon enjoys massive influence and controls a portion of the Kingdom.
8. Are Orite
She is the Aláàfin’s personal attendant. It is the Are-Orite who sees to it that the royal meals and royal bed is properly made.
She also makes sure that the royal chambers are neatly arranged. When an Aláàfin is enthroned, it is the Are-Orite who places the umbrella-like silken parasol over his head as a canopy and she is constantly by the side of the Aláàfin to see to his needs and small services on public and state events.

Argentina legend, Diego Maradona, has admitted it “hurt his soul” to hand over the award for Men’s Best Player to Cristiano Ronaldo and not his compatriot, Lionel Messi.

“The meeting with Messi was fantastic.

Sports / Finally! Ex Coach Alex Ferguson Reveals Why Manchester United Scored Many Late G by Maryoxlade: 3:33pm On Oct 21, 2017
Legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has revealed that his team was notorious for scoring late goals, because of their never-say-die attitude.
Ferguson stated this, when he gave a speech after officially opening Salford City’s stadium, following its renovation.
Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes are some of his former players that were present at the event.
“Obviously we’d never win every game.
“We’d love to have, we’d tried to, but you know something they never did? They never gave in.
“You look at the last minute goals United scored, that wasn’t done because of their ability, that was because they never gave in, their character never let them down.
“They just bang, bang, banged the door and eventually it broke down.
“You know how many last minute goals we scored in my time? 166. The last fifteen minutes at United was 200.
“That wasn’t because of me, that was because of these lads [points to Neville, Giggs, Scholes], that was because of these players – they never gave in. It’s a quality too,” Ferguson said.

So Hilarious: You Won’t Believe Where A Drug Dealer Was Caught Hiding After Police Came To Arrest Him
Photos have shown the really hilarious moment police officers found a suspected drug dealer trying to evade capture by hiding under a bucket, with his feet sticking out from under it.
According to The Sun UK, Thanathip Thongsuk, 22, had allegedly been handling drugs with pals at a snooker hall in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, on October 18.
Informants tipped off police who raided Thanathip’s house less than mile away in the Thung Yai district at around 10pm.
Thanathip fled the home but police searched two toilets at the rear of the building and spotted the bungling escapee hiding under a giant pink tub.
Officers said they retrieved a stash of methamphetamine tablets – known locally as “yabba” – from the toilet which Thanathip had allegedly forgotten to flush.
