@ big dreams what is your email we can work out a business relationship agreement if we can come to favorable terms for both parties.

I did export a few laptops to Naija (about 10) and want to expand the operation. Not just for laptops but also electronic gadgets.

Cheers,

Business / Re: You Have Money And You Need Business Ideas? by mazia(m): 8:24am On Apr 24, 2008
two outstanding responses so far in my opinion.
Naijcutee gave practical albeit low cost business initiative while
Naijaecash emphasized some critical principles behind a successful business venture.

I am neither in the group of those having an idea but lacking adequate financing nor having the finance with no idea. I have a bit of both and studying a few projects/ products to see how viable they will be in the Nigerian market.

Naijacutee and Naijaecash thanks to both of you.
Technology Market / Re: Re: Imported Pure Sine Wave Inverters For Sale by mazia(m): 4:35pm On Mar 05, 2008
Folks,
How much power is needed to sufficiently handle 3 AC's, 1 refrigerator, 1 deep freezer 3 desktop computers, lighting fans and other household appliances( Pressing iron,microwave) etc using an inverter?

In other words, what KW rating on an inverter should I buy for a 3 bedroom bungalow with the aforementioned load?

Thanks for your responses.
Politics / Re: Nigerians To Pay More For Electricity by mazia(m): 11:42pm On Feb 24, 2008
How much do Nigerians spend on an average per month on diesel/gas for their generating sets and also how much on a average per month on PHCN bills?

Just asking to have an idea on how much electricity costs back home.
Politics / Re: Nigerians To Pay More For Electricity by mazia(m): 2:51am On Feb 17, 2008
Fellow Nigerians,

Do you think the federal government opposes projects that have been aimed at providing reliable electricity for private companies besides the privatization issue?

@Mac73
If what you are saying is true,then this situation is far worse than I had imagined. cry

@londoner
I agree with you that the media,radio stations in particular are the culprits promoting the excessive[without establishing boundaries  where it is not acceptable] use of pigin and could be a good reason why it is widely accepted and even a considered replacement for proper english since it is easier to learn and nearly everyone understands it.That is sheer laziness

@Emmeno
Nigerian movies  angry angryare unbelievable, I don't want to get into that,i am having a good morning and don't intend to ruin it yet.
Culture / Re: Terrible State Of The English Language In Nigeria by mazia(m): 1:24pm On Sep 03, 2007
Prior too leaving the shores of NIgeria, the state of English Language in najia was deplorable, I guess it has taking a dive for the worse since then.Not trying to compare Nigeria to the USA but quite a significant number of Americans can't either express themselves properly in a formal conversation and even more alarming that they are not able to write it.

Back to topic, Yes English is our lingua franca,even though imposed but it sure has served a useful role in bridging the communication gap that existed between the myriad ethnic groups nigeria is made up of.
Pigin english was devised by those that had a difficult time learning formal english pronounciation and grammar etc. which again has bridged the gap between those can speak it fluently and those that lack that ability [which is not negative at all,as humans are endowed with different capabilities].

What I think Debosky and FuFu Kin are after is this, Nigeria has accepted english as their official language and thus, we should expect more from nigerians in terms of their fluency in english in a conversation,at least for those that have been exposed to the four walls of education.

I think there is a very high probability that pigin english undermines the ability to speak english fluently [ an opinion ]. If some one carries out a research on that ,there might a high correlation between those two variables.

I think we need to do something about the state of speaking english fluently in naija though.It sure deserves attention. I am not saying pigin is bad, it is here to stay and will always be a great resource when you are trying to communicate with those that aren't literate [ for lack of better words ] and who do not speak your ethnic lanuage. Communication would have been terribly difficult[dare i say impossible] without it.

Is there a feasible way to improve english fluency in nigeria without obliterating pigin I hope.

Good point Texazzpete, anybody who has that as a major factor for buying a laptop will inquire about it. The average user does not. that would explain its omission in the spec description.

Technology Market / Re: Where To Get Brand New Laptops? by mazia(m): 6:00pm On Aug 28, 2007
Brume,
Quite succinctly put. On the differentiating factor between my business and others, I did ask me that question and have come up with a few unique approaches that should build value in the products i will market. I am sure they will evolve as business needs and market demands change.

The major reason (albeit not the only) that was pivotal to my venturing into this project is the nature of the relationship I have with my vendors and the ability to transfer same values to my clients or consumers. The programs are designed to encourage loyalty not necessarily based on price but on the intrinsic value the customers receive.

I own a business here that is contracted to several small businesses here.Basically they source all their supplies from companies like mine. I have learned a bit about building,maintaining and re-enforcing customer loyalty.

Again , the Nigerian business scape is unique and I am taking gentle strides into it being optimistic as one of my favorite mentors will say " an optimist sees an opportunity in every difficulty'------Winston Churchil

About the "cheer leaders" and "overtly pessimistic views" ,I saw them as challenges. The more issues they present ,that provided me with significant information on how to design my business process workflow.

Cheers

Arnold

well in terms of performance, compaq lags behind most of the HP configurations, look at it this way, Honda and Acura are two quality cars right,however Acura is the luxury division of honda. Both models are made by the same company.
Technology Market / Re: Laptop Deals : Your Opinion Needed. by mazia(m): 2:52pm On Aug 28, 2007
nope compaq is the lower end of HP. and it is not off their site either.
Technology Market / Re: Mtn Blackberry / Internet by mazia(m): 2:43pm On Aug 28, 2007
depending on the model, the cheapest model i heard is the 6280 and it goes for 31000 , but funny enough i confirmed that the 8100(pearl) is going for N39000 which is a very good deal.hope that helps

Technology Market / Re: Laptop Deals : Your Opinion Needed. by mazia(m): 2:40pm On Aug 28, 2007
Just looking at it, that configuration is either a Dell or an HP? I dare you to prove me wrong. that source of yours is not where to get the best price as i can almost tell where that is coming from.
Technology Market / Re: Laptop Deals : Your Opinion Needed. by mazia(m): 2:38pm On Aug 28, 2007
@teeluv

Do you mean you have websites that we can purchase laptops at good prices? if that what are the prices for the configs?

FYI: there are different ways to purchase stuff in the US, besides some of and a good majority of them are not what they say they are , trust me been there .
Good luck in your quest.
Technology Market / Re: Where To Get Brand New Laptops? by mazia(m): 2:34pm On Aug 28, 2007
@Apmis

I applaud your pointing out a few distinguishing factors that will differentiate businesses in the same field or industry. I do have quite some startling offers,not just products but offers that will build relationships with my clients that they can NEVER, i repeat NEVER experience elsewhere regardless of who the merchant is.
I will not let the cat out of the bag lipsrsealed until the due time. if i did i will give my competitors an early start on coming up with similar programs to counter mine.
