Civil servants again! I always say it. |
![]() |
Okoroawusa: Olodo ni e. Your civic teacher too is Olodo You don’t know what they cal pubic corporation or public company. That’s different from public servants. Public servants and civil servants are the same thing. Anybody working for government is a civil servant. |
![]() |
Civil servants! Civil servants! Fear them. They plunged this country into comatose. |
![]() |
Obierika: Who are they? You think only those sitting on secretariat are called civil servants? Chai! Education is not a sca.m. Anybody working for government and the purpose of his or her work is to satisfy the civil society (you and I) is called a civil servant. So far you are being paid from our commonwealth (the wealth that belongs to you and I), you are a civil servant no matter how big or fine or modern your office is. No matter how far your salary is, you are civil servants. Astronauts who work for government ( not private like SpaceX o) like NASA are civil servants. For the fact that astronauts don’t sit in secretariats and carrying dirty and torn files around don’t mean they are not civil servants. Take some learning man and those liking your comments. |

Larryndelaw: Why blaming our leaders for evils you and I perpetrate in the country? So it is now you know that government cannot do everything? If you want to be a man of your words, don’t ever blame any leader on this forum again. All you uncouth children. Nafdac madam is given the mandate to stop importation of all illicit foods and dru.gs. The has the right to confiscate them when have entered our country but she and her people have not performed at all. That’s why I said if she needs additional help and support that she feels can help her perform, let her shout out. Go to Sango market alone and see most products in shops are fake. Alaba nko? Trade fair and other shops that we can’t mention here. Nearly all pharmacies are selling either d.ake or substandard products. NAFDAC needs offices across all states. At least, a minimum of 2 in a state with tools to work. And mobile and automated testing kits. Go and watch how American border patrol officers work. They have small small machines that can detect fake foods and drugs within a few minutes, without taking the drugs to labs. Each machine can detect over 40,000 types of generics of drugs and paints. These machines are not expensive. You and I can buy one, if we could contribute. Our people in position of authorities lack experience and exposure. They are also cor.rupt. Most of them were once civil servants before they were given appointments as civil servants again. Modern tools of trade are part of what makes a leader to perform. Without them, such leaders will just be running round a circle. I expect NAFDAC officials to be going around shops and factories with this types of small and modern equipment to test, on the spot, those foods and d.rugs. Anyone found to be fak.e or substandard so be seized immediately and the seller arrested. That’s how you and I can be sure we are not using our money to buy po.ison. Let me digress a little, go to more modern offices and airport and see computer hand-held equipment they are holding to attend to all issues. Scanning common barcode on a display screen can help you locate a gate where you are to board a plane without meeting any airport officer. |

Madam, you are underperforming. You have a corru.pt team also. I doubt if we could have a NAFDAC oga again like late madam Dora Akunyili. You are just there feeding fat on our commonwealth. There’s no state in Nigeria that doesn’t have all these f-ake, illicit drrugs menace. Shout if you need help. |

BitterTruth0001: Any airport that doesn’t have ALL CERTIFICATIONS required for a complete airport is called aerodrome. Add that one to your nzogbu-nzogbu knowledge. I am unapologetic about it. No Nigerian airport has all certifications of a full-fledged airport. We only call all airports like that. It’ doesn’t mean they are airports. Even some airports abroad in developed world are aerodrome but grammatically, they are called airports. On technical terms, such airports are aerodromes. Airport is not about long tarmac or a gigantic building, or shining floor tiles or being far from town, or because it is receiving some commercial traffic of aero planes. I repeat: airport is about getting and updating all certifications as required by all airport certifications body Can Airbus A380 land in your airports? So you have all signaling, communications, and other airport infrastructure equipment installed and certified by all internstional certification agencies? Common certification for a airport clinic or firefighting equipments, your glorified airports don’t have them. A state just mentioned it was about building an airport, you and your men were having heart attack already. When will you stop this 8tred? Is Lagos State not part of Nigeria? Can’t any state build its own aerodrome because your state has built? You feel because you have bought a Toyota Corolla I shouldn’t buy my own. Your parents didn’t train you well. They just left you for the society to shape you and it’s shaping you badly. No thanks to this era of internet.

BitterTruth0001: Go and check the meaning of aerodromes well. It’s different from that you went to copy and paste here. All Nigerian airports are aerodromes. Ask the most learned persons in your linage. Eyin omo iran k’iran. Nairaland really gave you mouth. Olodo gbogbo. |

I have said it and I will say it again, government should close down domiciliary accounts in Nigeria. Anybody who needs dollar should apply through the bidding process at a market-determined rate. You can’t open a USD bank account in Europe as an individual or a Naira account in any US bank. God knows how many trillions of Naira our past and present governors have converted to foreign currencies and kept at home and at banks. The same thing with every other Nigerians. Tinubu should give them 3 months to close down the domiciliary accounts or loose the money to federal government. With this, Naira will appreciate significantly. Nigerians mop up dollar everyday and keep it, just to edge against Naira’s free fall and it’s because government allows keeping of dom account. Anybody who needs forex you go the route of how they trade bitcoins. |

immortalcrown: You are on point. Absolutely correct. And if you say government should prone down staff, some people will say what do we eat families of those affected to eat. We need to automate a lot of things in government sectors. Automation will help improve efficiency and transparency and even bring in more money that are being stolen by these pseudo-ghost workers. A friend of us, who was working with a local government, asked us to help review his cv for an application to a new role outside civil service then. When we were discussing his job description, I was perplexed to see what he has been doing for the past 11 years he had joined a local government. Parts of his job description was to issue staff ID card to new joiners. It’s just to issue and write down names of them ni o. Not to print ID card o. Another one was to check log book of youth corpers and to go to 5-days market to sell local government receipts. He too knew he was just wasting his time there. Government jobs like this have made a lot of people to be too laid back. They rely on their salaries and some kickbacks from their job. Go to immigration office. A command of 300 staff is not supposed to be more than 15. They do nothing than carrying files around, gisting, gossiping, and sleeping with themselves - the same thing across all government offices. Our governors too don’t help. Once they get to power, they employ more people just to show that they gave job to people during their own tenure so that citizen can be praising them. This has made us to have bloated civil service, with recurrent expenditure running into billions monthly. 2 Likes 1 Share |

franugo: Thanks so much, bro. Will read through it and digest. We learn, by co-sharing. |

franugo: Your assertion means our banks must be moving plane ✈️ loads of foreign currencies to foreign lands after a Nigerian buys anything from abroad. It doesn’t work like that. I worked at CBN in 2001/2002 and I know a few of it. You can find out more, The major foreign currencies they move to Nigeria is those real used from oil sales. If you sell anything to anybody abroad, the only reason you are able to withdraw foreign currency is because our government allows domiciliary account. So when you get value in your dom account, you draw cash over the counter. If our government doesn’t allow don account, you get Naira value on your Nigerian bank account and draw Naira over the counter. The only store of value is gold or other precious metals. It’s because we don’t have enough gold in store (reserve) that we can sell when we have commitment to pay abroad, that’s why their is less reliance or less believe that we have what it takes to meet our future commitments. This adds to why Naira is not valuable. Check all those powerful countries. They don’t move currencies across Europe and the US in commercial quantities the way we do on Nigeria because they don’t spend it there. They are only debited and credited for values. Other things that caused us to have worthless Naira is we don’t export, we import too much. |

Austindark: There’s no woos for us. The woos are for them. Think rationally, this boy. Don’t just comment here to gain some likes from none.ntities like you. The 3 countries do not have sea ports. They rely on other ECOWAS countries at our West African coast lines for their sea imports. Don’t forget that sea importation is the cheapest means of international transportation. The 3 ceding countries would, either create their own artificial seaports within their zones, or do their imports via air, or go to Northern African ports like Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt to clear their shipments which is far compared to southern seaports they have always used before. They can also use Senegal route too. So, stopping importation through South is an own goal for them. All their import is less than imports of 2 states in Nigeria. 2 Likes |

franugo: It is an automated transaction. That debit of Naira is converted to an equivalence of whatever currency is agreed at the moment the payment is made. It’s only values (numbers) we are just spending, not real paper. As conversion is made, your Naira balance decreases after considering current exchange rate used at that moment and the Dollar (or whatever currency) account of the merchant increases (credited) in value of his or her currency you agreed when making the contract of sales. For example, if an American buys something online from European seller (merchant) and uses his card, an American is debited the equivalence of Euro at that moment he was making payment, using official rate, then an European merchant is credited with Euro value of the sales. It’s as simple as that. The same thing will be applicable to someone buying in Naira. We were using our cards for international payments online before in Nigeria until FG blocked it because Nigerians were using the opportunity to move stolen money abroad. At that period, there was No pressure on Naira at all because you can easily buy with your Naira card. More so, we were importing less then, our refineries were working. I witness an era when N0.34kobo was equivalent to $1. |
![]() |
Let them allow us to be using our Naira cards for international transactions, reduce importation, and ban domiciliary accounts. Under 2 months, Naira will bounce back. I am sure government is afraid that people who have stolen Naira will use the opportunity of opening our Naira card to move their illicit funds abroad. This may be right but we have to win some and loose some. We can’t win on all fronts. Open the Naira card for international transactions and let those importers /students etc be able to pay online. There would be less need for applying for Dollars in/at banks or going to Abokis’ shops. I feel utilizing those I suggested would help crash prices of things and reduce inflation. 1 Like 1 Share |

chidiokay: Leave them. Na miracles dem like. They think power rot of over 50 years can be corrected in 8 months of a new government. Can we lay and commission gas pipe, power transmission lines, turbines in 2 years and have steady electricity within the same period? The rot in the sector CAN NEVER BE CLEANED BY ANY NIGERIAN PRESIDENT unless they do sincere privatizations and allow experienced foreigners to run our power sector for us. Some of people complaining here don’t have prepaid meters o. Some of them bypass electricity connections o. And they will come out and be complaining, forgetting that they are part of the rot they are blaming someone else. Among those private power company, which of them can invest a minimum of N5trillion in a year for a minimum of 15 years before we can have appreciable electricity? What efforts have our state governors made to help with power generation since Bubu signed the law that allows states to generate their own power? We won’t hold our state governors accountable. We would be passing all blames to central government. 1 Like |

Is that the next thing for a state to do? Ilé ún jó, wèèrè ún la gutter. Is it Chinese language that Bayelsa people don’t speak or write that makes them to be on the state where they are? A state surrounded by water that doesn’t have drinkable water. No road. No hospital. Education has dilapidated but they are thinking of bringing and feeding, guarding and paying Chinese men. With the level of allocation that Bayelsa receives every month, the state can, conveniently, be paying, at least, N25,000 every month to its indigenes and still be able to do a lot of projects. I don’t see why governors of a state like Bayelsa with huge allocation cannot construct some hundred watts of electricity for his people and give them concrete or solid interlocking or asphalted roads, modern clinics (2 per local government), new classrooms building, etc. How much were Awolowo and Bola-Ige spending on these things when they were using cocoa money then? Bayelsa people beyyer talk now because mouth close and no dey talk, na im dey smell o. Chinese language is not what they need now. They need better standard of living. |

Are you sure he doesn’t have another ‘home’? May be you have step brother or sister somewhere o. My apologies if this comes too straight to you, bcause that’s another money-draining venture, before you start wetin you no fit finish. Keeping two homes can be cost-intensive. I support you taking care of your parents o but carry out some due diligence on them. Let your dad open up to you so that you can know how to properly come in and render a lasting help. I could see you are mature and caring daughter. Does he womanize? Is he owing someone due to some contractual obligations on his side? Does he drink (excessively) or bet/gamble? Etc. Let him share his debt profile with you. Document them and see how you can clear them little-by-little. Knowing these would help you know how to fix things quickly. At least you would know the source of the problem. As per the house rent; since he wants a 3-bed, look for it in areas where its cost would be equivalent to that of 2-bed in posh areas that he would have wanted. Tell him you can only furnish 2-rooms. Getting him the house would save you from everyday hassle of having to mediate in fights. I guess the frequency at which he is operating is different from those he met back in the village. So they will always clash, unless they compromise on some things. Also, if there’s power, ask him what he would like to do to be getting some cash/finances so that you (and probably, your siblings) can set him up to reduce his reliance (for money) on you. Our parents are growing older and as they age, some of them tend to ask for those things we also asked for (from them) when we were small, without thinking of how our parents would get it. This is the time to get more closer to him and bond. The bonding will let him open up on so many things. Please don’t drive him into depression. It costs a lot to bury aged parents these days o, especially when you come from a tribe that doesn’t compromise on this. Appeal to your siblings to see what you see that they don’t see. It’s tough for a lion that has been eating Bouvet in the jungle before to now be eating half chicken in the zoo. I pray he lives longer and healthier. Please manage him well. I am sure he would give-in to your advice. And I pray may God almighty help you to take better care of him and not put your family to shame. Note: all I said may not be useful to you, but you could still see a few that could be adaptable. Don’t listen to those who said you should leave him or abandon him o. He reserves the right to sell his house without informing you. It is his property. He felt that’s the best decision to make at that time. Any of us can make such or similar decisions at any time. 1 Like |

dfgconcept: It’s the money they make from it that will benefit the masses, if they manage any money they make from it well o. Where are the masses even traveling to by air? Masses wey never chop. Airport is for those that can afford it. Those things that we call airports on Ikeja are eyesores. They are just none sense edifices. It’s good Lagos State doesn’t build any yeye thing like we have all over Nigeria and call them airports. Those ones are just local sheds. It’s better Lagos State engages international consultants who have track records in airport designs and building. We want world-class edifices that can stand closer or toe-to-toe with those found in Europe and any of the MiddleEast airports. Let them not forget to acquire more land like 10 times of what they currently require o. If we see what Airports countries like Qatar, UAE and expanding, we would know airline business no be moin-moin. There’s huge money in running airports. So far you automate over 90% of the operations, you would break-even quickly and start making cool profits. But if you go manual, just say O TI LO. |
![]() |
My own is that: let them float the airline too on Nigerian stock exchange so that it is self-financing and investors-driven because one governor may come later and not see pumping money into it as a priority. Lagos Blue Line is an example where Ambode, a well performing governor didn’t see the Line as a priority and left it unattended. Upon floating, Lagos State government (and May be other Oodua states) can have hold up to 51% of the shares. It should not be more than that. Whoever feels like selling its stake among the states would know that there are waiting buyers for their shares. |

cole19: The same question I was asking myself but I got the answer myself. People who have money would find it longer and tougher to be traveling to Badagry to board planes. They would rather go to Ikeja than go to Badagry from Lekki, Ikoyi, VI and mainland axis. Anything from Okoko side is perceived to be for strugglers. It’s until when that side improves further that they can sight such infrastructure there. 1 Like |

Manufacturers should embrace biodegradable plates. Those chinko people know say the machine dey yanfu yanfu and recyclable papers dey here but they won’t bring such machines. Mr hey know we jump at any thing they bring our ways. They know they can’t try that in their countries. Government should ban nylon bags too. If it’s not biodegradable, we shouldn’t allow it. We need a safer and cleaner environment. Let them go and invest in paper mills. |

ivolt: Retract your statement. Any crude oil explored in Nigeria and sold to any Nigerian company on Nigerian soil is never sold in foreign currencies. The price of such sale could have been in an equivalence of Dollar cost of sale plus a little margin because the landing cost in Nigeria will be lower than landing cost for someone buying the oil in Europe or Asia. |
