Family / Re: Why Can't Your Children Speak Your Language by meyri: 10:57pm On Jul 27, 2012
A child learning a language depends on how often the parent speak it to them. If the parent is not speaking a language and the child not hearing it then the child will not have the lang. skill. So there no special or formal thing to do to learn any lang. everything starts with a day to day conversion.
Family / Re: Why Can't Your Children Speak Your Language by meyri: 7:39am On Jul 27, 2012
It depends on where parents place their priorities. It has nothing to do with not having time, learning a lang. start with words/conversation. Parent have time to speak to their children in English yet cannot make time to talk in their native lang. Hmm...Neither does parents from diff. tribe should not be a hindrance. Both of my parents are from different tribes yet they were still able to teach me their language. We had a no English policy at home accept if the subject dealt w/ education matters. We are blessed to be from a country that speaks many lang. yet many can't speak one. It's a shame.
Family / Re: Bathing A New Born Baby. . . by meyri: 7:09am On Mar 07, 2012
Molding? Ke? I dont know what you mean by that. When I was a nanny, after taking the babies a bath I give them a massage it was quick and nothing to it. did it as i apply lotion or oil. it was a gentle massage then I stretched their legs and arms just as i saw my mom do it. Then afterward the baby was more calmer and slept longer. Massage suppose to teach your baby to relax and tone their muscle just as it does for an adult. It not going to change any features on your baby.

@poster just do a gentle message it suppose to be a bonding moment between you and your child nothing more or less

Romance / He Is Not A Graduate by meyri: 6:11pm On Dec 06, 2011
Met amazing guy recently. We just click and we make each other happy. I have introduce him to my family and friends and they like him. But one thing they cannot look over is his occupation. He can repair fix anything from car to electronics to large appliances. He makes a good living and is very independent. But he not a graduate. He says he waited to long to gain admission so he decide to learn a trade to keep him busy. Want to go back to school but he says he doesn't have time and struggled with paying attention in school and he not sure if he want to relive that. My parents call his job "dirty job" and say that his future is not secure w/o degree. Na weting dirty job? A job is a job as long as you can support urself and ur family. Must a secure job be an office job? My family and friend don't value him and look at him sideways. My mama says that Im wasting my time and staying longer w him will make it difficult to leave. For me his occupation doesnt bother me. I'm I being naive in investing time and energy in this relationship? Or should I convince my friend and family that he actually has worth?

Romance / Re: Is It Good To Marry Somebody That U Don't Know His/her Genotype, Hiv Status & Blood Group? by meyri: 3:57pm On Sep 28, 2011
While you at it why don't u recommend psychological testing for possible mental disorders. Also a fertility test to see if both can make babies. A DNA analysis and bloodwork for current and possible future diseases,

When you get married you going into uncharted territories you cannot map out everything that possibly happen that why you vow for better or worse. I can understand the need for HIV testing, though.
Family / Re: Is It Wise To Allow Our Kids To Speak Pidgin English? by meyri: 3:36pm On Sep 28, 2011
It should not be a problem, as long as the child knows that there is time and place when to and when not to speak it.
I grew up learning to speak Pidgin along with my native tongue and English. I use them interchangeably, and it has not hinder me in any way.

@LagosShia

i am simply saying that simply because you are getting info from the source (adherents) does not necessary mean that the info is convincing or right.

Just because you do not find someone religious view convincing doesn't mean they are not right/wrong. You made a choice not to find it convincing or right because it conflict with your own belief system.

Hellfire: Lets make this short and sweet. Jesus and Job were in hell at one point in there life. These men were supposedly "good men''. So hellfire is just mankind common grave. We will all eventually die so we will all go to hell.  smiley
Religion / Re: Does God Truly Exist? I Am Dumbfounded by meyri: 7:01am On Aug 19, 2011
You do not need to see God with your two eyes to know he exist. When you see a house you do not need to see a the builder to know that the house was build by someone. The house is evidence that a skilled craftsmen built the house. Likewise evidence of God existences surrounds us the creation, human, animals, laws of nature, etc. . . .Yes he does exist just look around, nothing is here by chance
Religion / Re: Who Are These Jehovah's Witnesses? Misconceptions, Likes & Dislikes About Them! by meyri: 6:49am On Aug 19, 2011
If I have misconceptions about anything I go directly to source to sort it all out. Likewise, if i had misconception about Jehovah Witnesses I will go and ask an active Jehovah's Witnesses about their faith. Unfortunately many of the forums about Jehovah Witnesses are started by non-Jehovah Witnesses or former Jehovah Witnesses (who tend to have some bias toward the religion), on that note many of these so-called Jehovah Witnesses forum are simply good reads but are not informative neither trustworthy. I wouldn't ask a Christian to explain the Islamic faith, neither would i ask someone that associates with a Muslim to explain the Islamic faith. I am just saying.

TV/Movies / Re: Will A Nollywood Movie Sell Without A Popular Face? by meyri: 6:16am On Aug 19, 2011
In order for a face to become popular it has to be seen over and over again. Everybody deserves an opportunity. The problem lies with the Nollywood industry, it all about quantity instead of quality. bombarding a movie with a popular face doesn't guarantee a great story line but will "guarantee a great sell. And as long as the production company makes their money who cares about quality. Frankly I am tired of these 30 something year actresses and actors playing character far young they look like and I am tired of the same played out scenario being produced with their predictable endings. Nollywood need to some fresh faces, and new story lines.

cheesy cheesy I loving the movie trailer for ZR-7, that a some of u posted. The story is very original and the picture is superb, thumbs up to the writers, directors, producers and actors

Food / Re: Potatoes: What Can You Do With Them? by meyri: 1:31am On Jan 17, 2011
Sauce for potatoes: you need onions tomato paste cornbeef oil water salt. First heat some oil in a saucepan the oil should cover the bottom of the pot then add a can of tomato paste and choponions. Cook the paste until it starts spreading then add seasoning salt pepper maggi or tomatoes if you like. Then add cornbeef mix everything together. Then add water start with one cup if too thick add more water until you get the consistency you like then let it boil on medium heat. Stir and check frequently to make sure it doesnt stick to the pot. After about 20 minutes it should be done. I eat with fried or boiled potatoes.
Culture / Re: Raising Children by meyri: 2:33am On Jan 13, 2011
It not the place it the parents. If you raised n US or Nigeria by bad parents your childhood is going to suck. But if you have good parent who instill within you good qualities, values and discipline you you have the best childhood. It not the place that makes the child it the parents.
