You're exactly where racist whites want you with such self blame/self hate post. They want you blaming yourself for your condition as if their invisible hands are not to blame.
Black consciousness is the antidote to white supremacy.

Keep blaming white people for all your problems. Invisible hands ko, supernatural hands ni.
at the end of the day, we blacks are the source of majority of our own problems.

prymesolution: Aren't we the dregs of the earth! Yes she is racist, but did we not bring it on ourselves? After years of independence, most of our countries are as rudderless as ever. We cannot even feed ourselves or fight any disease without White people's intervention. I am angry but not at her but at we Africans of all shades and background! When will we decide to take our destiny into our hands. The moment an African man/woman and his/her family is doing OK, who care about the rest of the race. That is the kind of attitude that almost always send us down the bottom of the rung! Jews, Latinos, Italians will get into a place and form institutions that will lift fellow nation's people up, but what do we do, as long as my family is doing well who care for other black people. It is simply a shame on our race!

well said!! I completely agree.

Fashion / Re: A Public Service Announcement To Nigerian Women Who Bleach Their Skin. by mink505: 3:09am On Dec 21, 2013
@OP, keep preaching to the choir.
at the end of the day, nigerian women bleach because MAJORITY of nigerian men prefer lighter skin. esp the more successful men.
if you use a good quality cream and use it lightly, you won't have most of the issues listed on that comment.
I'm not trying to promote bleaching but just stating the FACT about why women do it.
in my humble opinion, FEMINISM is the only thing that can stop women from bleaching. Men love it when women are insecure and dependent on them. Most men complain about bleaching yet they will make fun of dark women and do everything to make dark women insecure when in fact, these men are also dark themselves. The only solution is for women to seek success rather than settle just for marrying a successful man. otherwise she becomes a slave of the black man and his preferences ( light skin, straight long hair etc).

most women: I want to marry a successful man. I will bleach my skin to become beautiful and attract a successful man
feminist woman: I want to become a sucessful woman. I will work hard and succeed in reaching my goals and ambitions.

so rather than making a stupid PSA about women bleaching (what about brazillian weaves etc), make a PSA instead to promote feminism.

@ bolded That means if madam no cook, she is abusing her husband, ni?

The aim of this thread is basically to discourage all forms of abuse in the home front. Physical and Verbal abuse are part of emotional abuse.

starvation is abuse. including women who use food to abuse their husbands. lol
although most men have the option of eating outside d home if they're truly hungry so I was somewhat being humorous with that comment. cheesy
I would be more concerned about children.

yea all forms of abuse are bad. you probably should remove the "Which is Worse" from the title.
because in my opinion, if I had to CHOOSE, I will say physical abuse is worse. although I agree that both are bad.
Family / Re: Verbal Abuse VS Physical Abuse, Which Is Worse? by mink505: 1:40am On Dec 21, 2013
vanitty: It depends really. I could care less if a stranger verbally abuses me but when feelings comes into it, verbal abuses hurt more. I personally think the aftermath of physical abuse - the betrayer of trust- hurt more than the deed itself....well unless it leads to death. Both are equally as bad jare

this is exactly how I feel about the subject.
I don't see why people are separating physical abuse from emotional/psychological abuse as if they are two different things. both physical and verbal abuse are forms of emotional abuse.
if you bump your head accidentally, the feeling is different than having your spouse slap you. you feel anger, you feel demeaned, you may feel helpless or defenseless, a lot of emotion is involved.

r.ape is an example of physical abuse that involve a LOT of emotion (unless you are ra.ped so much that you become desensitized to it. referring to the poster who claims that physical abuse is insignificant because you can be desensitized to it. yea true but is that a good thing? you can argue the same for verbal abuse).

. there are counseling services for battered women and children, victims of torture, soldiers etc I believe. Many people with history of physical abuse (esp severe physical abuse) develop depression too and some go on to develop PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).

starvation is also a form of physical abuse. this is why men should learn how to cook grin

@ bolded that is why I think a law protecting verbal abuse victims is in order, that way no body gets hurt, the husband, the wife and the children.

yup I 100% agree with that. in case of husband and wife, the law is called DIVORCE grin lol whether it be physical or verbal abuse.
for me though, if my husband called me stupid, i would call him stupid back we can have a verbal argument or fight. of course over time, if verbal abuse continues for years then it is wise to get a divorce. but if he lays hands on me just once or twice, I am getting a divorce. simple as that. I am not going to risk my life trying to fight a man who is bigger than me.
5 min of verbal abuse can't kill but 5 min of physical abuse can.

this is probably why it is hard to compare physical and verbal abuse. physical abuse will kill you if it goes on for long enough (thinking of prisoners who are tortured daily. you will be psychologically troubled as well but you will die faster). but verbal abuse may demoralize you and leave you psychologically troubled without killing you (unless you kill yourself. depending on how sensitive you are to verbal abuse).

My dear effects of verbal abuse can be quite terrible too! Just like you claimed you don't mind verbal abuse as long as no body lays hands on you. so also for another fella they prefer physical abuse to verbal. Verbal abuse is a recognized form of abuse because it has very negative effects on victims and sometimes the effects are more difficult to heal.

yes of course, verbal abuse is horrible and has negative effects.
I just believe that physical abuse is worse.
just my personal opinion.
I still don't believe that anybody will choose physical lashings over verbal lashings.

unless you are comparing 5 min of physical abuse to 10yrs of verbal abuse then in that case the verbal abuse is worse. I am comparing equal amounts of the abuse.

maybe because you appear rich? that must be annoying isn't it?
to be honest, it is not a "nigerian" thing. that same mentality is present in people of different countries too. esp poorer people if you are the only wealthier one among them. that's why the rich befriend the rich and the poor befriend the poor. if a rich man befriends d poor, then he must be ready to part with his wealth grin

according to statistics lottery winners also lose their wealth very fast. esp if they come from poor background. everyone will beg the money dry.even stragers will come out of the nooks and crannies claiming to be their long lost cousins or friend.
me, if i win a lottery, I will just pack my load and move far away. i will disappear. grin

maybe you should distance yourself from those people as well. make friends with wealthier people who don't need your money.

If people decide that they want to go naked in the streets and they challenge the law, they will win. esp if that law is strictly moral.
here for example in NY after a woman took the police to court, it is now legal to go topless in public. cool police are ordered not to arrest any woman who goes topless. men are allowed to do so afterall.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/16/nyregion/a-police-roll-call-reminder-women-may-go-topless.html?_r=0
ex. if we see repeated offenses of people going naked in public, this will pass the message that people are serious about it. esp since USA favors human rights. it would be a disaster to keep persecuting and arresting them esp if it lands in the media and becomes a major story. ex. marijuana use is now legal in many parts of the USA. due to the high incarceration rates of weed smokers that cause it to turn into a human rights issue. infact, illegal immigrants are treated in such a way that would be considered very generous in most parts of the world. and that's all because of the respect of human rights. esp if the illegal immigrants came to the USA as children. by logic they shouldn't suffer for their parents' crimes.
In naija, nobody cares, even if they kill 500 gays, they will even pat themselves on the back. what a barbaric country.

keep in mind that the gays were first banned from marrying in the USA in 1971. and it took less than 30 yrs for people to come to the terms that gays weren't going anywhere. they challenged the law and they won.
and believe it or not, polygamy will eventually become legal in the USA ifthe polygamists challenge it enough. the difference is that due to the rise in gender equality, you will see more women marrying multiple husbands. there will be more polyandry than polygamy. they will remain a minority though.
compared to a country like Nigeria or Pakistan, American laws are damn logical. laws aren't simply based on whether or not something is "deviant" that would be silly. tattoos are popular now, but at a certain point they were deviant. etc. it just takes a while for the rest of d world to catch up, that's all.

the fact that you made a post thinking it will redeem you from your ignorance and low IQ dumbness is very comical.

gboso1ne: I will support same sex marriage the moment they will be able to have their own childre without going through adoption

not everyone sees marriage in that way. what about couples that choose not to have kids?
or couples that are infertile? or ones that have pets that they care for etc.
anyway, science has its ways. in the near future, women won't even need sperm to be able to have kids. scientists have been able to create artificial sperm cells from bone marrow.
even now, you can choose to remove your egg from your womb and let another woman carry your pregnancy for you. it's called surrogacy.
the traditional religious views of marriage is often dumb. imagine the catholic church banned the use of condom among married couples until 2008!! because in their mind, marriage is about procreation and nothing else. LOL

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1223617/No-men-OR-women-needed-artificial-sperm-eggs-created-time.html

---

besides, there is no need for "adoption" in naija. the govt is so inept that you can meet a random stranger and take their child in to live with you and no govt official will question you about it. you are never at any point in time asked to prove your biological parenthood. ex. child slaves househelps , black market adoption etc

yellowpawpaw: ^ I don't think u hv passed tru abuse in ur life, or hv come close to counselling one so when some pple r talking about abuse, close ur mouth and learn. No need exchanging words with u. Gat no time for that either.

you close your mouth.
you don't know what abuse is so go and sit down.
if a man almost beat a pregnancy out of you, you will not feel any emotional pain abi? if you you were beaten to the verge of passing out or vomiting , you will not feel any emotional pain? or r.aped. or had acid poured on your head. what about burned or stabbed with a knife esp by those you love or care about. abeg jor.
anybody that inflict such kind of physical pain clearly wants to hurt you both physically AND emotionally.

only verbal abuse involves emotion in your own little silly mind.
many soldiers in the USA have to go through counseling. there is no verbal exchange in wars. mostly physical and the trauma is CLEAR.
in ur silly head, physically abused people don't need counseling. tons of physically abused people go through counseling. especially in developed countries. like I said, there is option of walking away or retorting with verbal abuse. unless you are physically restrained or threatened.

physical abuse involves emotion. If I fall on the ground and hit my head, it's not the same as having someone slap me across the face.
maybe because I live in USA, I will rather have my parent yell at me than hit me. I can yell back at them so it's not a big deal.
I can leave the room or yell back at them. simple. physical abuse is different if the person attacking you is bigger than you or has more strength and you are powerless to defend yourself. biko.

if your parents are calling you good for nothing and you find it to be worse than physical abuse, then clearly you are more afraid of physical abuse if you don't yell back at them or call them names in return. LOL I yell back at my parents because I live in the USA and they can't hit me. it is against the law. i will rather take verbal abuse because I can go to my room and walk away or like I said, yell back. I have the same mouth afterall. as long as the don't touch me physically.
Family / Re: Verbal Abuse VS Physical Abuse, Which Is Worse? by mink505: 7:28am On Dec 19, 2013
yellowpawpaw: And I can accept physical than verbal or emotional cos I will make sure I deal with u decisively when u least expect it even if u r more powerful than me. U dare not lift ur finger on me cos I will cut it off.
Touch me and I will inflict pain on u.

I don't support any at all to any gender.
What about ra*pe? Its physical and emotional abi?
.

r.ape, beating, torture and any form of abuse that involves touching another person in a harmful way is a physical abuse.
if 3 police officer or soldiers came and stripped you n.aked and beat you to a pulp you would beat them back? abeg. stop lying.

also, ALL ABUSE IS EMOTIONAL. whether it is physical or verbal.
if you fell down to the ground and knack your head, you will feel a different pain than if you were slapped by a human being. People feel emotional hurt from physical abuse. so unless you love pain, then you would choose verbal over physical.

the only really bad thing about verbal abuse is that it can be very mild that people often ignore it and over time, it leads to psychological issues. physical abuse on the other hand is always resisted right away unless you are one who is desensitized
to pain or love pain of course then you won't see a difference between physical or verbal abuse. hahaha

i personally will choose the "good for nothing" over the hotslap. because as far as i'm concerned, whoever is slapping me must feel that I am good for nothing in that moment that that slap was meted. If you are observant, you will know that people often also use verbal abuse in accompaniment with physical abuse. while you parents are beating you, they will tell you that you are a bad child. or st.upid or call you a goat or whatever. even if they don't, you know that they are beating you because they think that.
beating is for goats afterall.

Lynching is a crime whether gay or robbers. This law does not ban being gay, the law is followed to the letter and I am referring to if a person can be charged it being gay which is not possible under this law. A policeman cannot arrest a gay person and anyone having gay sex wont be jailed because the law states marriage.

I guess it is good news for gay people

Like I said in a previous post, the law doesn't matter because Nigerian govt is non-functional anway. they never enforce their laws. lynching happens all the time, no one gets arrested for it. have you ever heard of anyone getting arrested for burning an "armed robber" to death in public?.
What is dangerous is the Nigerian public. the reason this law matters is the symbolic significance. it gives people the justification to persecute gays or act violently toward gays.

I'm sure most gays could care less about govt laws. they are probably more concerned about persecution from their neighbors. they can be beaten in public by random people etc. and these kind of laws give justification to that. and besides, if a straight man told the police anything and the gay man denies it, who do you think the police would believe? ie referring to the ban on gay fraternizing in public spaces. should all gays ow be under house arrest because they can't be seen socially in public?

noone cares about marriage certificates on the practical level. it's not like USA where marriage is important for things like taxes, adopting a child etc. in naija, it's just a useless paper. I doubt that gays care about whether or not they can officially "marry"
it is more of the symbolic meaning of the law that's important.

at the end of the day, nigeria is d way it is mostly because of its 150 million people. we like to blame govt for our problems but govt is just some random institution far away somewhere (unless of course you try to directly threaten it). unlike developed world where the have strong govt that are actually significant and meaningful.

clearly, gays are not allowed to meet each other or fraternize socially. this is pretty much a social ban on gays.

^ even though this article says that order has been restored, just today, there was a bombing at the UN base. Thousands of armed youths attacked the base where many were seeking refuge. the crisis is getting worse. it started out as an attempted coup.

This is a lesson to those who believe that Nigeria's disintegration will make things better. Things will undoubtedly get worse!
disintegration by itself is a sign of severe instability.
if people can't get along, whether christian and muslim or igbos and yorubas or hausas. then no matter how much you split the country, if you don't fix the real cause of the problem (poverty, lack of efficient politicians, lack of trust etc), nothing will change for the better. in fact, the instability that results from the splitting will make things worse.
even among the so called biafrans, you will see splits. even among the hausas or fulanis you will see splits. there is always a reason for war and fighting. even within blood families you will see splits (esp when money or resources are involved. ie over family wills etc). so let us use our head and try to fix our issues in a senseless way. those calling for Nigeria's disintegration are not wishing the Nigerian people well.
Politics / Crisis in South Sudan: Will it turn into a Civil War? by mink505: 6:19am On Dec 19, 2013
(CNN) -- Order has been restored in South Sudan after fighting that left about 500 people dead, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

Government forces are now in charge of the situation, and flights have resumed at Juba International Airport, the ministry said.

The United Nations, however, is warning that the crisis is not over. Joseph Contreras, U.N. acting spokesman on South Sudan, said, "It is a very, very fluid situation, so I don't think the country is out of the woods yet."

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also spoke Tuesday of being "deeply concerned" about South Sudan.

"There is a risk of this violence spreading to other states, and we have already seen some signs of this," Ban said.

Meanwhile, the South Sudanese government said its forces are in "absolute control of the situation" and that Sunday's coup attempt was not based on ethnic divisions but rather on "the power ambitions" of the coup plotters.

About 800 more people have been wounded in the violence, Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth said earlier. He said bodies are still being found in forests and many of those who were wounded are dying in hospitals.

Deadly clashes in Africa's newest nation began Sunday evening. President Salva Kiir later said his forces had halted a coup attempt.

U.N. officials have expressed deep concern about the unrest, saying between 15,000 and 20,000 people have taken shelter in the organization's compounds in the capital, Juba.

"There are many, many people who have run away, and there are also people who have been killed," one woman who fled the fighting said. "Now there is a woman who has a baby who was shot in the back and died."

In Bor, a town 87 miles north of Juba, the South Sudan Red Cross reported 19 civilians were killed, said U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky. Meanwhile, about 800 people gathered at a U.N. camp in Bor to seek protection, he added.

Gunfire was still ringing out in Juba as recently as Tuesday. But Makuei said Wednesday the situation in the city had returned to normal, with people returning to work, flights resuming and government offices opening.

He said the rebels who have clashed with government forces had moved closer to the Nile River.

When Goodluck Jonathan dies, Nigeria is also free to choose whether to invite SA to GEJ's burial. grin

In fact, I am ashamed of the arrogance being displayed by Nigerians on this thread. Just because you "helped" someone doesn't mean that they are forever indebted to you. If you want them to be forever indebted to you then you should have signed a diplomatic contract or agreement when you "helped" them. other countries sign agreements if they want something in return for their favors.
haba Imagine if Nigerians were d ones rulling SA we would be 10x worse than the whites.

Persons that entered into a same sex marriage or civil union contract commit an offense and are jointly liable on conviction to a term of 14 years imprisonment each.

nigerian govt takes itself way too seriously. who cares about a dumb useless Nigerian marriage certificate?
Nigerian marriage certificate has no meaning. just a useless piece of paper that is only needed when you apply for visa to leave Nigeria grin

Any persons or group of persons that administers, witnesses, screens, abet and aids the solemnization of a same sex marriage contract or civil union or supports the registration, operation of gay clubs, societies and organizations, processions or meetings in Nigeria commits an offense and liable on conviction to a term of 10 years imprisonment.

hahaha anybody who operates any organization or protest that challenges the corruption of our politicians will also be killed or arrested so what's new here? police beat and arrest people for simple reasons as not paying bribes. so what's d difference between a homosexual citizen and a non-homosexual Nigerian citizen from a political perspective? we are all slaves and prisoners. Nigeria has no human rights. whether you are gay or non-gay, you can still be arrested for no reason. we have a non-functional govt and our politicians are worse than the homosexuals. Don't let us fall for this scam.

yet we nigerians are very stupid. our dictatorial government pit us against each other and we don't see it. we assume that gays are the scapegoats. when in fact, all Nigerians are at risk of violent attacks. if you join the government to persecute gays, don't complain when the government comes to persecute you. don't fall for the tricks. let's not fool ourselves. you are no better than the gays you are condemning. neither do you have more rights than them in reality. before we know it, we will be living under sharia or abacha reincarnate.

we need to stop conflating culture with law. law should be there to PROTECT. In fact, the reason why gays have rights in western countries is because the law promotes human rights for ALL. whether you are gay or straight, child or adult, or tall or short or deaf or dumb or blind, muslim or christian. the law will protect you in America (at least 95% better than a country like Nigeria) as long as you do not harm or steal from others.

Sagamite:
And your moronic arsse also claims that laws are not based on morals?

your IQ is too low for simple concepts. in developed countries, government is SECULAR meaning that "morality has no place in law"
govt ain't no church, temple or mosque. keep your fake "morals" to yourself as long as u aren't harming any one. laws are based on logic. and the parliament or govt is there to debate laws to make sure that they make sense.

in Nigeria,u will see all of them corrupt fools claiming moral superiority over the nation.
even this fool sagamite keep rambling about deviant behavior, yet has a fetish for posting p.orn all over nairaland. Rubbish how is this behavior different from pakistan where alcohol is banned n illegal for being immoral yet 90% of the male population is addicted to chewing grass to get high. hahaha hypocrites. The middle east and especially Africa are ironically known for having the grossest human rights violation in d world. talk about morals. obsession with "deviant" behavior is stupid. if you are so obsessed with following the crowd, clearly corruption, violence, r.ape will never end since majority of people engage in it. all these vices keep Nigeria underdeveloped yet we choose to turn blind eye on it and focus on scapegoating those who look or act different from the norm. THe norn in Nigeria is corruption, violence, r.ape, adultery (a man who is faithful to his wife would probably be considered deviant) etc. a politician who is not corrupt in Nigeria will be condemned for being "deviant"
another word for deviant in African lingo is witchcraft. anybody who doesn't fit the norm must a witch. ahahah

western countries are developed for a reason and you sagamite, are typing comfortably from a western country while at the same time wishing Nigeria evil by not wanting it to develop. if you are really serious about your homophobia, there is no reason for you to be sitting in a western country grin. move back to Africa or the middle east. gbam.
enjoy your gay po,rn while you are at it. hypocrite.

Nigerians are hypocrites of the highest order. grin grin grin

Gay Po.rn Strangely Popular In Pakistan, Nigeria: Report

When the results of a recent Pew Research Center poll on LGBT acceptance around the globe was published last week, Nigeria and Pakistan emerged as two of the world's most brutally LGBT intolerant societies.

In Nigeria, where lawmakers recently passed a draconian anti-gay bill that seeks to not only criminalize homosexuality but gay rights as well, only 1 percent of the population said homosexuality should be accepted by society; while in Pakistan, where gay sex continues to be illegal, it was 2 percent. (It was 8 percent in Kenya.)

So why, despite this overwhelming bias against gays, do people in these two nations seem to be strangely -- and unduly -- fascinated with gay po.rn?

Nigeria and Pakistan are two of the planet's most anti-gay countries, so why are residents of both nations searching for so much gay p.orn?

As eagle-eyed Alex Park pointed out in a recent Mother Jones post, Pakistan is, according to Google Trends, "by volume the world leader for Google searches of the terms 'transgendered sex,' 'teen anal sex,' and 'man f-cking man.'"

Both Pakistan and Nigeria rank in the top five for Google searches of the term "gay sex pics" and "an.al sex pics." Kenya, another vehemently anti-gay nation, ranked first for both searches.

Sagamite:
is paedophilia not a minority and aversion as well?

pedophilia is a fetish. it is a paraphilia similar to zoophilia, sexual sadism and exhibitionism.
Homosexuality (used to be known as homophilia) used to be scientifically listed as a paraphilia but no longer is.

in fact, pedophilia by itself is not illegal. if a pedophile was arrested, he/she would be accused of r.ape. NOT pedophilia. In fact, a pedophile who wants to avoid jail would seek an adult who is underdeveloped physically. ex. late bloomers. the definition of pedophilia is an attraction to per-pubescent or pubescent bodies and there are quite a few adults out there who fit that description and have underdeveloped bodies that would attract pedophilies. this is perfectly legal as long as the object of attraction is not a child because in that case, it would be r.ape since children have no capacity for CONSENT by law. but if an 18yr old has a body of a 12 yr old etc then that's perfectly legal.even though it falls under the category of pedophilia.

In fact, there have been moves to redefine pedophila. to restrict it to per-pubescence only. so that men who are attracted to pubertal children will no longer be considered pedophiles. ie children above age 13. At the end of the day, none of it matters legally. It is just the scientific body that is debating it. they are the ones who set all these definitions. legally, it is r.ape that is a crime.

when there is consent between two adults, then it is legal. infact, there r some people who love to suck their own or their partners blood. all sorts of fetish exist out there. nothing illegal about it. If someone was sucking a child's blood though, then that will be a problem.
this is ironic because children's rights do not exist in Africa. violence towards children, beatings etc is perfectly acceptable behavior in most African countries. developed countries take this seriously. laws are there to protect people from harm. whether adult or child and chidren especially since they are not capable of protecting themselves. child marriages in Nigeria is so rampant. 15 yr old girls married to old men. no biggie. yet they claim "moral" stance against homosexuals. wtf

just because something is unusual doesn't mean it is illegal. examples of parahilias include Acrotomophilia (attraction to amputated people), Gerontophilia (attraction to elderly people) etc. might be disgusting but hey, laws are (and should be) based on logic not morals. If I am attracted to people with crossed eyes or attracted to dwarfs, what is your own bloody business? should we start arresting any normal sized person who shows romantic interest in aki and pawpaw because it is "strange" or "disgusting"?

It is just a third world country mentality to look for scapegoats (esp. a minority or disliked group that can't easily defend itself is usually targeted). Just a lot of violent tendencies in people due to frustration in life. and just a general predisposition to "fit in" if you are too different from others around you, you will become a target of persecution (usually witchcraft).
ex. people who love to sleep with their legs placed on the wall being accused of witchcraft and beaten to death etc. ridiculous. I place my legs on the wall sometimes. who cares. somehow all these "witches" are women, children and elderly. coincidentally people who have little power in society to defend themselves from the majority mob ie people looking for scapegoats to blame their problems in life on others.

trust me, if you are wretched in life, it is not the gays, "witches" or minorities that are causing your wretchedness. hard to believe ain't it?
